Quote:
A villager has left a tip about some form of virus happening to the local minipet wildlife. It is up to you to check it out!

Your character must catch one of the local minipets wandering around. Roll 1d10 and see what phrase you get from the list. Then use the minisglossary to pick a pet with that phrase in it (do not pick SE pets or RE ones!)

1. Tropical
2. Sweet
3. Black
4. White
5. Spooky
6. Cheese
7. Onion
8. War
9. Wish
10. Eyeball

Once they have caught one, they need to carefully examine it to make sure it has no signs of the virus (the symptoms are possibly purple, evil looking, very vicious) then they can let it go. If however, it is purple or shows possible signs of the virus, they should hand it in to the villager. Roll 1d4 to see what the villager gives you for your time.

1. You get nothing. They take the pet and go away.
2. You get a halfhearted thumbs up.
3. The pet bites you as you near away from it! Ouch! Add +2 to your miasma meter.
4. The villager looks at you. He says "they key to the door is 8888." He leaves.

Apparently the villagers now wanted Ignatius to help them find infected minipets and bring them back if he did. That didn't seem too hard to do, though it sounded considerably less fun than sliding down a glacier was.

(He saw the appeal of sledding now, he had to admit. If for any reason he was ever visiting the land of ice elementals or snow creatures, perhaps he would buy a sled and bring it with him. Then he'd find whatever peaks they had in their area and use them obsessively until he got bored of it. Which might be never, admittedly. That was quite the adrenaline rush.)

Ignatius shook his head out of his distracted thoughts. He wasn't here to think on sledding, he was here to help these villagers out with their infected minipets. At least the villagers seemed a bit less hostile to them now, though he wasn't sure if he'd call them "nice" at all. They still seemed rather insistent and needy overall.

Still, minipets.

The lightning elemental started to look around for any minipets that looked like they were out of place. It took a bit, but eventually he laid eyes on a small foxfire, specifically a blacklight foxfire from the look of its patterning. Now how exactly was he supposed to tell this thing was infected?

They had said something about needing to find purple glows and perhaps a bitey attitude, and Ignatius lifted it around over his head, attempting to find things that might look out of place. While it was a blacklight minipet and perhaps it was a bit harder to see much out of place, Ignatius caught that some of its markings looked to be a purple colour. That probably was not their usual shade, right?

Ignatius continued to manhandle the foxfire, somewhat oblivious to the fact it kept thrashing and making loud screeching noises of anger until Ignatius brought it down closer to its face. Oh. Was it foaming at the mouth?

This was definitely an infected minipet, Ignatius was certain of it. He took it and didn't wait, heading back over to the villager who had wanted these infected pets brought back to him.

It didn't take long for Ignatius to get back to the villager, foxfire held out a good foot in front of him.

"I think this one might be infected," offered Ignatius, with a small, self-depreciating grin, clearly understating what seemed to be obvious enough to him. It was, after all, angrily thrashing at him for even holding it, though he did not necessarily consider the fact that the animal may have just not enjoyed being held up so high. It was, after all, a foxfire. Foxfire did not fly.

The villager did not seem to question Ignatius' logic, though, instead leaning in and looking a bit closer, eyes peering out from under their hooded cloak. There was some noises of ponderance one way or another, before Ignatius suddenly found himself freed of the minipet. Surprised, Ignatius glanced down at his hands for a moment as if trying to figure out where it might have gone. It didn't take long for him to realize the villager had slipped away with it, though, and his eyes darted back up to watch his retreating figure within a few seconds.

He blinked.

"Well, I guess that one was infected?" Ignatius, of course, did not get an answer. Typical. He should have learned to expect no less from these people.

At least the task was complete. Those villagers needed to learn to speak up more, though. So grouchy...
