"The things I do for the sake of friendship," Kari sighed as she crawled through the grass in search of minipets. Rumor had it was some were becoming infected with some kind of virus. Whether she was just a sucker for minipets in need or she wanted the villagers to trust her more, she had volunteered for the task. She wasn't sure how she would be able to miss something glowing purple while acting aggressively, but it was somehow stumping the villagers, hence the reason she was crawling around looking for a minipet that fit the description given to her.

Hearing a rustling nearby, Kari waded through the tall grass around her from her crouched position. As she drew close to the source of the noise, the ghoul could see white peaking through the mist and brush. Was there a ghost boil or ghoul searching there as well? It was entirely possible, considering she hadn't been the only Amityville resident on the wrecked bus. Edging closer to identify the white object before coming to a conclusion, she realized it was not a ghost after all, but a plump, white minipet.

If she recalled correctly, the minipet before her was known as a Chinchili White. It didn't seem particularly rabid, in fact it looked downright cute if Kari was being honest with herself, but she still wanted to make sure in case the virus was something that was potentially harmful. After all, she wouldn't be able to live with herself if something befell the creature and its neighboring inhabitants when she could have prevented such an occurrence.

Easing herself up behind the Chinchili, the reaper gently reached out to grab onto her target.

RP Mechanics
A villager has left a tip about some form of virus happening to the local minipet wildlife. It is up to you to check it out!

Your character must catch one of the local minipets wandering around. Roll 1d10 and see what phrase you get from the list. Then use the minisglossary to pick a pet with that phrase in it (do not pick SE pets or RE ones!)

1. Tropical
2. Sweet
3. Black
4. White
5. Spooky
6. Cheese
7. Onion
8. War
9. Wish
10. Eyeball

Once they have caught one, they need to carefully examine it to make sure it has no signs of the virus (the symptoms are possibly purple, evil looking, very vicious) then they can let it go. If however, it is purple or shows possible signs of the virus, they should hand it in to the villager. Roll 1d4 to see what the villager gives you for your time.

1. You get nothing. They take the pet and go away.
2. You get a halfhearted thumbs up.
3. The pet bites you as you near away from it! Ouch! Add +2 to your miasma meter.
4. The villager looks at you. He says "they key to the door is 8888." He leaves.

Just before Kari's fingers could touch the minipet, Its round ear twitched backwards and it spun around to glare at Kari. She blinked at the ferocious look in its eyes, not having known such a look could come from a creature that had been so calm and composed prior. It was as if a switch had been flipped once it realized it wasn't alone. Okay... it didn't look purple, but it was behaving aggressively. Did that mean it was infected?

Kari weighed her options as the minipet continued to glare at her. She could leave it, but would feel guilty if it turned out it was infected. She could catch it, but would probably get hurt in the process. Guilt eventually won out. She couldn't leave it be if there was a chance it was in trouble.

Picking up a nearby rock, she chucked if off into the distance to her left. She smiled as if made a satisfactory swishing sound in the brush, catching the Chinchili's attention, distracting it long enough for Kari to lunge forward and wrap her arms around it. There was a chorus of screeching as it struggled in her grip. "Shhh, you're alright. I just want to help you," the ghoul crooned softly, holding the minipet firmly as she eased herself into a standing position. She had successfully caught the minipet, now all she had to do was to take it back to the village.

"I found this little guy wandering around outside the village. It wasn't glowing, but it was definitely hostile when I approached it." Kari adjusted the minipet into a more comfortable position since it seemed to realize that a struggle was a waste of energy. The villager said nothing, only reaching to grab hold of a cage. "Doesn't that look a bit small for such a big creature?," she queried. She paled at the withering look she was given. "Sorry pal, but this will help you feel better," she whispered to the Chinchili, stepping up to where the cage was being held out. As she eased her grip a bit to slide it into the cage, the minipet lashed out and bit her right forearm. "Ahhh," she cried, wrenching her arm back in surprise. The sound of a cage closing shut and hurried footsteps were the only response to her pain. Maybe the villager had been afraid of Kari's response to being bitten... or the fact that she was possibly now infected herself. She didn't feel different. Though she was already wearing purple...
