The Girl_______________________________________

Name: Av'nia
xxx[ Formerly Avalinia ]
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Craft/Rank: Weyrling (former drudge)
Description: A petite little thing with shaggy brown hair that used to be longer until she chopped a good portion off due to her inability to get the many turns of knots out. Her face still shows some signs of her turns as a drudge however she has since put on some weight since coming to the Weyr. Her skin is still pale in color though no longer holding a sickly quality to it. She also typically wears clothing that covers most of her body as she is not used to showing much of her skin from wearing rags for too long

Personality:
If there is one thing that can be said about Avalinia, it's that she's a survivor. All she's known her whole life was how to adapt and survive. She's become rather skilled at this, perhaps her most valued trait being the fact she is very adaptable. This can be to anything from a change in her environment to a change in social standing. She accepts things for what they are and rarely questions it. Unless she disagrees with it, but it takes a lot of effort for her to round up the courage to do this.

Having been a drudge most of her life, Avalinia is not very skilled at speaking up. If she feels differently on an opinion, she will most likely say something in confidence to a fellow drudge before saying anything to anyone of rank. Or any group in general, though she does stick to those who have worked a similar life to her own. They are what she considers family and Avalinia feels most at home when she's helping make dinner or cleaning a room. Anything that might be asked of a drudge. Because of her upbringing, Avalinia is a little socially awkward when she is around anyone else, especially those that are of a higher rank then she is, such as the lord of the hold or a rider. They intimidate her simply for being a superior and she would never forgive herself if she offended them. So in most cases, she tends to stay quiet and be ‘invisible’. However she does like having company around her. She just may night speak up or draw attention to herself, instead enjoying the presence of others more then the social aspect of a group.

When she is working, Avalinia is one hard worker. She will do whatever is asked of her and she will do it diligently and without fuss. One could even say she may be a bit OCD in how diligently she works. She is a determined woman, something that will grow the older she gets and the more she has to deal with what life tosses her way. Though she will lack confidence from time to time still, Avalinia will just have to view the obstacle as something new she must overcome. And she’ll also have to work to achieve some semblance of confidence in the given situation. Overall, Avalinia is a sweet woman that was dealt a certain hand in life and she rose to challenge it. It is her hope that, one day, she may be able to make her parents proud for giving her a chance to survive. As to how she will accomplish that, she doesn't know, but surely she can rise up to be something more than a drudge, right?!

The Dragon_______________________________________

User Image

Name: Druith
Size: Average
Build: Average
Egg: The Welcoming Egg
Personality: Druith is quite simply one of the most amiable dragons you could hope to meet, he seldom has a bad word to say for anyone and will speak to absolutely anyone humans included so long as he obtains their permission to do so, he wouldn't wish to intrude! He is a gentle soul, a peace lover at heart, and as such he will avoid violent confrontation wherever possible. This doesn't mean he is a push over however; he is quite happy to stand up for himself and those he cares for verbally, to call out anyone who is treating them badly. If this leads to a physical confrontation Druith will physically back off but he won't take back his words, it's not right to push people around just because you're strong! If he has the option he will duck behind a strong friend at this point, if they sort out the unpleasantness for him they will have his sincere gratitude and he will do what he can to repay their kindness.

Friendship is something that Druith values highly, he will consider just about everyone with a basically kind disposition a casual friend whether they've had more than one conversation or not. Those he gets to know better Druith will come to love intensely, in fact he can get a little bit clingy and will be a bit upset if his beloved friends need him to back off and give them some space. He will however comply, albeit with kicked puppy eyes, and he will wait for them to approach him rather than chasing after them so that he doesn't cause further insult. While he does become deeply attached Druith is no fool and if he is being taken advantage of he is quick to recognize it and quick to break the bonds of friendship no matter how much it hurts, all relationships should be reciprocal.

Romance is also something that Druith will seek out as he grows older. He will enjoy flights - so long as his rider doesn't mind him taking part - but what he is really looking for is a long term partner. They could be anything from another blue through to a silver or a gold so far as Druith is concerned, what is important to him is that romantic spark rather than anything physical. He would rather like for his rider to find such love too and will gently nudge them towards pursuing any crushes they may develop, and if they don't he may start to play matchmaker like a courtly mother seeking a good husband for her daughter.

There is a certain wistfulness to Druith's character, a longing for... for something more? Something different? A purpose? That great romance? Throughout his young life this blue will wish to see and experience a great range of different things in search of whatever it is he is yearning for. Adapting to sudden change and new situations is something Druith isn't all that good at however, he likes to have a plan for what is going to be explored and gets very flustered if those plans change suddenly or go awry. He feels most at peace by the sea and if allowed he will sometimes spend hours up on a clifftop looking out over the water, seeking something on the horizon that might give him a clue. Perhaps one day with his rider's help he will find what he is missing but for now it remains a mystery to him.

Why me? Druith was drawn to Avalinia's quiet strength and her ability to adapt to any situation.

To his chosen rider his offers his sociability and easy way with others, if she doesn't wish to speak up then he will happily do so for her! He will work hard at bringing her out of her shell and expanding her social circle, and if he gets his way Avalina will have a whole host of friends from different walks of life by the time he is six months old! While not an especially hard worker himself - he's not lazy but he's not exceptional - Druith also greatly respects Avalinia's work ethic and quiet determination to overcome the obstacles in front of her. Perhaps, just perhaps, this former drudge can help him overcome his own issues and lead him to whatever it is he is looking for.

Click to show.Inspired by Merrow (from Irish moruach, morúadh, murúch, murrúghach; Middle Irish: murdúchann) or Murrough (Galloway) is Irish and Scottish Gaelic equivalent of the mermaid and mermen of other cultures. There are other names pertaining to them in Irish: muir-gheilt, samhghubha, and suire.

Said to be of "modest, affectionate, gentle, and [benevolent] disposition," the merrow is believed "capable of attachment to human beings," with reports of inter-marriage. Patrick Kennedy reported such a marriage in Bantry, producing descendants marked by "scaly skin" and "membrane between fingers and toes". But after some "years in succession" they will almost inevitably return to the sea, their "natural instincts" irresistibly overcoming any love-bond they may have formed with their terrestrial family. And to prevent her acting on impulse, her cohuleen druith (or "little magic cap") must be kept "well concealed from his sea-wife," so advises Kennedy.

Merrows wear a special hat called a cohuleen druith, which enables them to dive beneath the waves. If they lose this cap, it is said that they will lose their power to return beneath the water. Merrow are also known to leave their outer skins behind, in order to transform into other beings more magical and beautiful.

History_______________________________________

Born to a small family that made their living off of the few herd beasts they managed to keep alive their small hold, Avalinia picked a horrible time to decide to grace the world. She was the seventh child, youngest out of the siblings, and the last her parents were able to have. By the time she was five turns old and with a poor harvest that turn, it was only a matter of time before their herd beasts died and the family lost its small amount of income. The mass starvation that spread nearly wiped out her entire family. It was, perhaps, a last ditch effort that Arvorian and his wife, Lina, took to try and ensure some of their children survived. They offered their strongest children to be raised and cared for as drudges to the neighboring hold, which was much larger and doing better than their pitiful excuse for one. She and three siblings were accepted and promised to be taken care of.

That was the last time Avalinia saw her parents. From then on, she only knew drudge life. Being so young, she didn't fully understand everything at first. But once she got older, Avalinia respected those that had taken them in. It wasn't the ideal life, but it was something. She and her siblings were treated fairly and actually enjoyed the family they belonged to. The older drudges taught Avalinia to cook and sew. The head mistress taught all the drudges, once a sevenday, a bit about reading.

By the time she was around 13 turns old, Avalinia could read some text, was quite skilled in sewing and stitching, and saw her first dragon. The rider's were from Malvren and took refuge at their hold for the night, having just fought a battle, marking the beginnings of the revolutionary battles. Avalinia had heard whispers traveling among the drudges that an uprising was coming. They just had not realized it was begun. Their hold, being loyal to Malvren, sheltered the rider's and offered them what assistance they could provide. It happened that, Avalinia was one such offering, to go and assist by cooking and helping stitch up wounded individuals. They were in need of skilled hands and they gratefully took the young girl with them.

Two turns later, when the first wherhold clutch was to be laid on the Sands of Benden, Avalinia found herself being told by a rider and their dragon that she had potential to Stand. There wasn't much arm twisting needed to convince her to find her way to Benden Weyr. She felt she owed Malvren, and by association, Benden as well, for giving her a chance to be part of something bigger. Not just a drudge. Now, the young girl of 15 turns finds herself being faced with yet another challenge in life. One she is adapting to well enough, though still fears screwing up some how. Though she's not sure what to think about the Revolution as a whole yet, finding she can sympathize with both sides, she is grateful for the chances she's been given at a better life. For that reason alone, she would pledge her loyalty to the wherholds.

The Impression_______________________________________

Quote:
The last three eggs on the sands had shown little movement or signs of breaking up till now. The Dancing egg twitched on occasion, but no further progress appeared to be coming from that quarter. The Welcoming blue on the other hand had managed to right himself and while he still looked mildly confused, he appeared unharmed by his ejection from the shell. He shook himself off and with a bright chirp he pranced towards the candidates with an excited vigor. First things first though, he trilled as he trotted right up to the Springing bronzes side.

The bronze tilted his head quizzically and his odd encounter with the suspicious brown was forgotten as he trumpeted in delight and leapt over the blue, tugging this new playmate into a tumble that both came up from making all sorts of excited noises. He didn't have much time to play though as his hunger finally drove him to actively search for his rider. The Springing bronze warbled to the blue and turned, taking one last great leap and kicking up a spray of sand onto one of the youngest male candidates present.

starving!>

The Welcoming blue's spirits flagged for a moment before he perked back up and sent a questioning warble in the direction of the Burning brown, getting up and running in the direction of the girls and the other hatchling.

Burning turned a cold glare at the little blue and huffed before pressing between two candidates to reach the one he wanted.

It is unfortunate that they are so stupid Zennaren mine. Your Fafneeth could have used them.

The little blue remaining chittered but continued along his same path. He must have just been busy! The Welcoming blue chirped at all of the candidates he passed, boy and girl, with the same amount of enthusiasm he'd shown to the Springing bronze. Finally though he'd found the one he'd been looking for and he greeted the sight of her with a triumphant bugle.

Avaliniamine! Your Druith is so happy to find you! Now we can meet everyone!

With that the sands were for a moment... quiet.

Quote:
When the first hatchling had come by the, nosing through the girls, she'd been a little intimidated. Especially with all the fighting and growls and general chaos that had been going on from the start, pretty much. However by the time there had been a few more hatchlings nosing among them, Avalinia had quieted her inner feelings and found them fascinating to be close to. Though she didn't dare reach out and touch any of them. Even when she was bumped by one at some point.

There had also been a strange sense of relief that flickered briefly through her when the lovely gold impressed someone. If it had been her... Avalinia decided not to think on that.

Once again there were hatchlings come towards them. A bronze and a brown... and a blue! All the boys. Her lips curled up a tiny bit from where she wasn't quite hiding behind another girl. They were so lovely...

Avaliniamine! Your Druith is so happy to find you! Now we can meet everyone!

She blinked huge eyes, a small gasp escaping. H-Had she really heard that? Her gaze was drawn to the gorgeous blue hatchling that had made his way to sit in front of her.

Why are you so surprised? You're the only one I thought was perfect! He trilled sweetly to her.

Avalinia felt frozen as her heart beat almost out of her chest. "You're... beautiful!" She said softly, a grin springing forth as she reached a hesitant hand out to touch him. Druith didn't need any more invitation then that! The blue moved forward and leaned into her with a soft sigh, a light croon rising from his throat.

Thank you, mine! Do you think we could go get some food? Druith asked with a sense of smiling.

"O-Of course!" Avalinia managed to get out, eyes flickering to the others around her briefly before she focused solely on Druith. He nuzzled her once more before leading the way towards the feeding tables. Each of his siblings he passed by, Druith offered a cheerful chirp in greeting while Avalinia gave nervous little looks to those around them.

Don't worry, mine. I'm right here with you. And my siblings and theirs won't harm you. He paused, perking up as they neared his bronze sibling. Imbeleth! Did you see what Leszyth did? Druith snickered, deciding to park himself next to his bronze brother.

Avalinia managed to snatch some food for her new bondmate, and almost dropped some of it when she realized she would be right next to someone she didn't know!
