User ImageName: Amelia
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Minercraft
Rank: Journeyman Excavator Goldrider

History:
Born into a family that called the High Reaches Weyr home, her parents were both involved in minecraft. Her mother was a geologist while he father was an excavator. From an early age she has been exposed to dragons, riders, explosives and more dirt and rock then an average person would likely consider healthy. Her friends came from the weyr and the craft halls alike and most barely mentioned the work of her family. It bothered her and helped sew the seeds of a strong will and a deep-seated pride in the craft that ran in her blood.

When she was able to, Amelia joined the minecraft hall as an apprentice and quickly gained the title of journeyman at the age of seventeen. Having benefited from the knowledge and mentorship of not only the other miners but her parents as well, Amelia found she rather enjoyed the labourious work of an excavator - the blunt humour and honest work that would eventually result in countless feet passing through the tunnels she and her father bore through the rock. It amused her, really, to know that as thankless and humble the job was, each and every person who walked through the hand-hewn walls were placing their lives in the hands of geologists and excavators like her parents.

A turn has passed since her gaining the title of journeyman and her rough-and-tumble attitude has drawn her out of the lower caverns for longer periods of time. There is activity in the main areas of the weyr and curiosity has called her to investigate. It was easy enough to learn of the new clutch and the queen’s egg - a hatching she intends to watch.

Attending the Hatching, she watched as the dragonets made a spectacle of the thing and even came face to face with a young, unbonded blue that thought her very interesting. However, that blue did not choose her and she rather thought that would be her story to take back to the other miners. When the gold egg hatched, the young queen paraded about the Sands and proceeded to display a surprising helping of self confidence and awareness of her position by forcing those gathered to bow to her. Among the chaose of fighting dragonets, injured candidates, and a circus of a hatching, the gold eventually addressed those at the Hatching and declared Amelia her chosen one.

Since then, Amelia has been trying her best to adjust to the demands of a gold with ambition enough for the both of them and the duties and knowledge required of a rider - both unfamiliar territory for the woman but she was eager to learn. On the cusp of understand Sharath, Amelia knows she must devote her life to the new calling but it at times struck by how she must leave her dreams behind.

When the Revolution hit, engulfing Malvren, Trine, and Benden, High Reaches took a no-involvement stance that did not sit well with Amelia. Sharath’s ambition was well known among the people of the weyr and she’d stirred more then a little trouble up so when it became known that Trine had been struck low, Sharath demanded they go to the tropical Weyr. Amelia refused - she was settled in High Reaches and while they weren’t the only goldpair in line for the leadership, Amelia was confident it would be theirs. But their competition took Flight before they and the hatching drove Sharath to fury, forcing the pair away from the Weyr for a few days. Sharath clutched soon after but without the title she so craved.

Fresh from a sour hatching, and bitter towards to gold clutched by her rival, Sharath convinced Amelia to make a new start elsewhere. They transferred to Trine - it was far away and the advances were in line with Sharath’s sense of importance as well as Amelia’s sense of equality. Neither had any interest in joining the Wherholds... at least not as they operated currently.

Appearance: With black hair, dark eyes, and naturally pale skin, she would have been a dark beauty had her life taken her over different paths. As it is, her face is almost always smudged with grit of some sort, her hair is pulled up into a messy bun and she nearly always wears coveralls for their practicality when excavating. Comfortable with shovel, pick, or explosive charge, she has a sort of unconsciously proud and confident posture about her. Quick to smile and unafraid to get dirty, it’s a rare sight to see her without some hint of her craft upon her person. Wearing minimal jewelry, Amelia’s sole fancy item is a necklace of a soaring dragon her family commissioned for her when she gained the journeyman rank.

Her body type is athletic and muscular due to her work. She is not petite by any interpretation of the word - standing nearly six feet tall (5’9”), she can almost look her father in the eye without trouble and shoulders tools nearly as well as any other miner. That’s not to say she does not have feminine charms – well proportioned and well endowed, Amelia’s charm would shine through if she took the time to dress up.

Personality:
Proud, bold, and confident, Amelia isn’t afraid of lending a hand. Proud of her family and her craft, she’ll often spend hours simply exploring the tunnels they’re in the process of building, memorizing the twists and turns even as she learns about the techniques and tools used in excavation. Easy going and inclined to laugh, she has no qualms about chatting with fellow miners or weyrfolk alike – though weyrfolk, and riders, tend to pass her by. She usually shrugs the lack of attention off easily, confident enough in herself to know that it’s not a personal sleight. Now that she is a goldrider and she can rarely pass a day without someone defering to her, Amelia often stops them in embarassment and asks these people to call her by her name like a friend. The sheer amount of attention is confusing the girl and she wonders if it's only because people see the colour of her dragon or because they're genuinely interested in her as a person.

While she is not afraid of closed or small spaces, Amelia does enjoy the openness of the Weyrbowl. She does not, however, know how to swim and tends to avoid Faseth's Lake on principle. Strong and intelligent, she is well suited to her craft and sometimes surprises people with her quick wit and strong understanding of numbers. Secretly, she sometimes enjoys that reaction and believes she’s made an impression upon the person she’s surprised. Eager to learn, to do, and to inform she can be found teaching the apprentices a thing or two when she is not involved in training of her own. With a dragon in tow, she is hardly ever seen without Sharath and spends a great deal of time taking care of the growing gold, though she tries to return to her roots in the busy and hectic schedule - a habit she knows she must break but is reluctant to do so. At a crossroads of sorts, she's slowly changing her routines and putting her old life to bed. Nonetheless, Amelia is looking forward to the challenge of the future and does not regret Sharath one bit - the gold, despite her faults, completes Amelia in a way she did not quite expect and she revels in the feeling of having someone there.

Possessed of a strong sense of curiosity towards the dragons, another favourite past time of hers is to sit along the edge of the Weyrbowl and watch the dragons wheel about overhead. Much like any other non-rider, she wonders just what it’s like to call a dragon friend but does not expect to find an answer to that question.

On a final note, Amelia has a temper. It is slow to ignite but when she is angry she will fume and yell and argue until her temper has run itself out. Be warned, however, if she believes herself truly wronged she can and does hold long-lasting grudges. In a fit of temper she will fling hurtful, pointed things but when holding a grudge she can be very cold – to the point of being disrespectful and ignoring the person as if they don’t exist. Also vindictive to a point, Amelia is not above seeing someone get their ‘just deserts’. She also tends not to back down from a fight and can be particularly stubborn in that respect. Whether defending friends or her honour, she’ll do her best to face down whatever opponent it is; however, she’s not particularly trained in fighting as while strong, lacks the finesse a warrior would possess.

Other: She likes to keep her hands busy and will work on small excavator projects for people.

Gold Sharath

Amelia! Queen Sharath waits for you!

Name: Sharath
Age: 3 Turns
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Weyrling / Queen

History:
Right out of the shell, Sharath was a commanding and unforgettable presence. She took her time to inspect the candidates and found them all lacking then forced the entire gathering of people at the hatching bow to her glory. Innately aware of the prestige of her rank and the role she is to fill, she is a born leader but possessed of several glaring faults. Once she commanded Amelia to come join her on the sands, she hissed and spat at the fighting hatchlings before they found their way out of the Hatching.

During the Hatching Feast that soon followed, the two made quite the impression on the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader, complete with temper tantrum from the young gold when she learned she could not sit with the ranking officials for dinner. A meeting of the riders followed and the dinner went relatively well.

Sharath grew quickly and once Amelia sorted out the how-to portion of taking care of a dragon, was in good health. Small for a queen, however, she’s seemed to have grown up on par with the bronzes and browns so far. Amelia has not noticed the difference, or thinks it normal, but Sharath did and it irks her something fierce. She will always be small in relation to the other golds and it feeds deep-seated insecurity and ambition.

More then once she’s caused trouble for people, even when the encounter has gone well, and has proven to be quite the handful for her rider. It is simply a good thing that Amelia is as strong-willed and stubborn as Sharath.

Appearance: Primarily a buttery, rich gold, her underside is a lighter hue with a slash of dull amber down her throat. Her wing membranes echo the colour of her throat and a thick stripe of the same colour as her belly runs from nose tip to tail tip along her back.

Personality:
Sharath is one passionate gold. Her infinite ambition means she'll never fall short of incentive to keep going, come what may. Ever assured she's one step ahead of her associates at all times (including her rider), it would take the most overwhelming problem possible to make her hesitant. To leave her speechless, you'll need something no less than devastating. Negative commentary would never influence her; not at this age. She never forgets her status and she refuses to overlook it.

Sharath also forgets a queen without content followers isn't much of a queen at all. If someone disagrees with her, she's outraged they would dare. She'll throw a fit over the matter and accuse them of going against her out of jealousy. In Sharath's world, being gold makes you right. Opinions that don't line up with hers she undermines without realizing she's doing it. What do you mean you don't think the exact same way she does? You, madam, are ridiculous! Greatness will only bless Sharath if she learns it takes a queen to lead a Weyr, but many dragons to build one. Else she meet with disaster. Her rider can help her with this, but it won't be an overnight ordeal.

The sooner this problem is addressed the better. Sharath gets what Sharath wants, and Sharath wants her own Weyr. She doesn't care if it's High Reaches or not; she'll be glad to move or even establish a brand new place all together if need be. The idea of failing doesn't frighten her into behaving more courteously, because as far as she's concerned, failure is not an option. She's willing to risk anything and do anything to make her dream a reality, and she expects her rider to be happy going along for the ride. After all, Sharath is so loyal and would not let any living soul utter a single bad word about Hers. She will even speak directly to another rider if she feels they're insulting her own. Who, don't forget, is a goldrider.

Everyone is a hypocrite. Yes, Sharah, even you. This gold has no problem insulting other queens or their riders out of spite. Taking orders from the Weyrwoman's dragon (and having other dragons take her orders over Sharath's) annoys her something fierce. The older she gets, the more diligent her rider will need to be. This is a larger than life dragon who needs to be kept under control or both this pair will face serious consequences. Not much of the population will think far enough into her trouble-making to realize Sharath's bitterness toward her fellow gold is no more than a feeble attempt to compensate for her small size.

She will be more than ready to rise by time she's old enough, but only under the condition the male she deemed worthy to catch her does so. She takes flight with one dragon in mind and one dragon only. Her opinion will not be swayed by anyone, not even her rider. The dragon she's partial to may be a bronze or a brown. Sharath is not picky about colors as long as everyone knows she's the most important one. In fact, her best friend (other than Hers, of course), is Green Redfith.

Sharath is able to separate the actions of rider and dragon, recognizing they are individuals rather then viewing them as an equally responsible unit. As such, one of the two may offend her but she will not lash out at both – only the one she considers offensive. She’s not easy to get along with but as long as one remembers their place, she seems content to be ‘pleasant’ enough.

Other:
Sharath wanted a rider who didn't really want her. It might sound odd, but she's smart enough to know that she's important, and it's hard to be sure when someone wants her for her and when someone just wants her because she's a gold. Amelia displayed contempt for her actions during the hatching which, interestingly enough, helped her make her final decision.

Amelia may not know as much about the Weyr as other candidates (especially given she's not a candidate), but Sharath considers this a good thing. It means her opinion will be less biased if this gold decides something needs to change. She is, it seems, following in the footsteps of Dorath.

Amelia will never have to worry about anyone overlooking her again, but the fact that she was okay with it in the past intrigues this little queen. Her rider is willing to talk to anyone as an equal, and this is something Sharath knows she needs to learn.

Of course, her temper delights the queen as well. She wouldn't want a complete pushover anymore than she'd want a gold digger. Pun intended.

Finally, Amelia seems an ideal choice. An unlikely goldrider for an unlikely gold. People underestimate Sharath for her size and Amelia because of her bloodline, but from now on that's all going to change.

---
RPs for Posterity from DRoP
Before Impression
[A Synergy of Professions] - Amelia and Camryn - Amelia meets an up and coming Engineer down in the tunnels while she's learning about explosives and tunnel construction.

Impression
[Song Clutch Hatching] - Many People - Amelia attends the Hatching expecting to learn and be entertained by the newly hatching dragons. Instead of this simple plan of action, however, she is witness to several maulings, the birth of dragons with very strong personalities, and finds herself face to face with a young blue that rejects her. The greatest surprise, however, is when a presumptuous new queen demands she joins her on the sands. This is the time when Amelia Impresses Gold Sharath.

[Song Clutch Hatching Feast] - Many People - Amelia and her new lifemate, Gold Sharath, attend the Hatching Feast and have their first encounter with both D'astel and Luci. The leadership of the Weyr does not recognize her and she gets the first taste of recognition. Abuzz with excitement and optimism, she and Sharath enjoy themselves once they're directed to the Weyrling's Table to eat with the rest despite Sharath's outburst at being denied a seat at the head table.

After Impression
[Dragonhide Care 101] - Amelia/Sharath and J'lin/Deprith - Amelia is having trouble figuring out just what her duties as a Weyrling consist of and 'how to' for most of the chores. More familiar with the workings of mines then weyrs, she gets help from J'lin to better take care of Sharath's hide. Besides a small altercation where Sharath was offended by an innocent comment of J'lin's the four get along well.

[Weyrling Lesson] - Many People - It is the last lesson that Sharath and Amelia will be attending before they switch to private lessons with Weyrwoman Luci. R'ysan speaks out against the temporary Weyrlingmaster, D'astel, and Amelia dresses him down for it. The two get into an argument that might have ended amicably had Sharath not chosen to defend Hers. The altercation lands R'ysan and Amelia with three straight days of constant chores and the rest of the class with lecture at dawn the next day.

[We were the victims. We were the culprits.] - Amelia and R'ysan - In the days that follow the Weyrling Lesson, Amelia is forced with work with R'ysan. While the start is a bit stiff, they eventually feel each other out and decent conversation takes place. Amelia learns R'ysan isn't a stuck up a** and R'ysan learns Amelia isn't as haughty as Sharath might suggest. Amelia believes she'd made at least one friend among the weyrlings that has nothing to do with her future rank.

[Getting to Know the Public] - Amelia/Sharath and B'shir/Sakneth - Amelia runs into B'shir on her way to get treats for Sharath and the two stop to talk. Their dragons also converse and it comes to light that Sakneth only speaks to those he finds worthy of his attention. The fact amuses Amelia but sparks suspicion in Sharath who despises people that see only her colour and size and seek to capitulate on her importance. Sakneth's inborn sense of superiority is sensed by Sharath and the two quickly grow irritated with one another. Amelia and B'shir wisely separate their dragons before irritation can develop into something more.

[Beware the Cyborg] - Amelia/Sharath and A'ram/Rath - On their way to get food, again, Sharath and Amelia encounter A'ram and his brown Rath. It turns out Sakneth and B'shir are overdue for training and Sharath exerts her influence to command Sakneth to come and not be so late. A genial exchange occurs but when A'ram suddenly withdraws from the conversation, both Sharath and Amelia find it off-putting.

[Steps to Remember] - Amelia/Sharath and Zacharai - While wandering the tunnels that Amelia grew up in, the pair are drawn to the kitchens where their appearance startles the workers. The distraction causes Sharath to knock into a young man and this sparks a conversation. Flights are discussed and Amelia's ignorance on the topic becomes apparent while Sharath seems to sense it's just another thing that's special about her. Ever confident, the dragon is not afraid of her future even if it makes Amelia nervous. In Progress

[Girl Power!] - Amelia/Sharath and K'ae/Lofrewth - In a rare moment of carefree enjoyment, Sharath and Amelia are out enjoying the sunshine and encounter green Lofrewth and her rider. In Progress

[A Friendly Gathering] - Amelia/Sharath and L'thor/Raith - Plagued by itching but with the Weyrling Barrack's stores running low, Amelia is forced to seek out the larger store of the oil used to maintain dragons' hides. She encounters L'thor and while his dragon is pleasant enough to Sharath, he seems to resent authority - authority Amelia doesn't even think she has yet. Sharath, for her part, makes an attempt to be nice despite the itching that irritates her to no end. When it becomes apparent that L'thor has reasons to dislike authority, it inspires thoughtfulness in Amelia and they part with her thinking on how to ensure conditions remain favourable for all the riders.

[Sunset with the Dragons] - Amelia/Sharath and Jericho - Amelia has another bauble to return but when Jericho happens by, she finds her 'target' has come to her rather then the other way around. The exchange sparks a conversation and Amelia leads Jericho back to their weyr where she shows him Ulysses' little hoard.

[Frustrating Firelizards] - Amelia/Sharath and Panata - Panata's little tail-chasing brown flit wakes Sharath and Amelia in the kitchen commons. However, despite Sharath being irate at the waking, and the subsequent squabbling and chatter of the firelizards Amelia's accumulated, the gold settles into a neutral mood. Panata comes across as a particularly shy individual but a relatively nice person.

[Joke's on You!] - Amelia/Sharath and Uuni/Makereth - Uuni and Makereth set their sights on Amelia and Sharath as the next target in their never ending quest for jokes. Luring the golden pair into a sort of tea time, Amelia and Sharath soon realize their drinks have been spiked and Amelia's ability to speak becomes impaired due to the numbing effect of the drug used. This does not go over well with either Amelia or Sharath but it is the dragon who, as usual, reacts the most strongly - going so far as to threaten Uuni and order Makereth about. It ends badly, with both parties leaving in bad moods.

[Admit It, You're Crazy.] - Amelia/Sharath and Uuni/Makereth - Amelia and Uuni work out their problems - mostly by Amelia and Sharath apologizing. The apology does not sit well with the proud gold but she does it and Amelia is grateful that Uuni does not hate her. The four end up going to lunch together, and Amelia hopes their friendship will ease the pressure that blossomed after the latest incident.

[Bite Me] - Sharath, Sakneth, and Haath - Haath tears apart Wherries but doesn't make way for Sharath when the gold comes to feed. Sharath seems relatively unaffected by the green's refusal to make way but Sakneth is greatly offended. The two end up arguing and Sharath intervenes. It doesn't go so well and she ends up frustrated and making both the bronze and the green more upset.
