Amelia was really beginning to wonder when they'd get to go home. It had been nearly half a Turn here already... and as much as she'd spoken of wanting to see the world, this was most definitely not what she'd envisioned.
Above, Sharath was riding the thermals that were rising from the fields, enjoying the sunshine and a chance to stretch her wings and practice. She couldn't speak for the others but since her attempt at trying to stir action on the part of the High Reaches Weyrlings, Sharath had (for the most part) followed her own call to 'arms'. Every day she would practice and while it might be solo flight, there was a marked improvement in her ability to fly despite the lack of official teachers.
Her rider, though, was watching the other wistfully, sprawled out in the grass to watch as the gold slipped and turned on the air currents. The Mines had let her go early today and the farmer she'd reported to had basically told her stuff it since she couldn't decided on one craft to help with. While that was wrong, and the farmer was an awful mood, Amelia knew when not to argue.
So she'd gone to practice with Sharath. You look wonderful, you know. You've gotten a lot better!
Sharath bugled with pride, the sound pleasant as it carried on the wind - though it was faint for Amelia's ears. I want you with me, Mine. I am large enough. There was disapproval in her voice as her head turned to scan the buildings of Ghenza.
Amelia smiled, knowing full well the gold's opinion of this place, Yeah, I want to be up there too. Eventually.
If it is not soon, I will simply carry you up. The gold said mutinously, bugling again.
I'm sure you would! But I'd fall off. The goldrider replied.
I would never let you fall, Mine. Sharath's tone was deadly serious and Amelia knew the safest place to be in the air was on your own dragon. A danger to you was a danger to them and they'd not let harm come to Theirs.
She simply nodded and fell silent, watching once more.

B'hec and Rayth had taken to hiding with an alarming frequency these days. Oh, yes, his entire family was very pleased he'd Impressed the little blue, it was very clear that Rayth was practically hand-made for the baker. They were, however, happy for all the wrong reasons, B'hec suspected, with the exception of his blueriding grandfather. (Though to be fair, B'hec's first thought upon Impressing was also 'thank Faranth I will be out of the kitchens!' so he couldn't really blame them.)
Mine, a gentle voice interrupted his thoughts, look up there. I think this field is already taken. We should hide somewhere else. She is a Queen...a very, very large one, Rayth added mournfully, a great sigh escaping the young blue.
B'hec chuckled and reached over to grab the freckled dragon's headknob, giving him a gentle shake before dragging him onwards. "They don't own the field," the honey-blond replied, brushing some wayward strands of hair back behind his bandanna. "Besides, maybe they want some company! You never know. There's a good chance they're doing exactly what we are."
(What B'hec failed to mention and Rayth tried valiantly to ignore was the rider's want to be in a female's company.)
I'm pretty sure we should leave them alone, Rayth insisted. She won't like me, because- Hey! Mine, what are you doing!?
B'hec ignored his blue's protests, instead approaching Amelia with an amused smile twisted onto his lips. "Hello, there!" he called. "You don't mind if Rayth and I join you out in this field, do you?" Not everyone could possibly see the dragon the way he thought they did, right?

Amelia blinked as someone addressed her and sat up, the posture hardly 'properly feminine' as she leaned forward and brushed stray grasses from her shoulders and hair - some of it had come out of the bun, caught by the roots and plants she was laying on. "Nah, you're welcome to join me an' Sharath. What're you doing out here, though? In trouble?" She glanced past them, looking to see if they were followed, and then back.
Above, Sharath had tightened her circles as much as she could, head hanging down so as to watch the newcomers, Who's that, Mine? The queen asked, drifting lower as she turned like a great bird of prey that had spotted its meal.
Rayth and... someone. I don't recognize him so probably a Ghenzan. Amelia replied, her eyes flicking upward when the gold's shadow flashed across them now that she was close enough to throw a shadow.
"I'm Amelia. Who're you, again? I didn't catch a name." She smiled as she flopped back into the grass, enjoying the rare lull of doing absolutely nothing. If he had an issue, he could take it with someone later - a break was a break and she wasn't going to waste it.

"See? I told you," B'hec grinned at Rayth, continuing to haul the small dragon across the dusty field. "They don't mind our company. Just because they're a gold pair doesn't mean they own the field, they're riders, just like-"
Uh, she is talking to you, Mine, the freckled blue cut in, blue eyes gaining a soft yellow tint. He glanced towards the woman sprawled in the field nervously before the large shadow caught his eye. Snorting softly, Rayth gazed up at the dragon soaring above. His wings twitched before B'hec tugged on him again, falling silent in a muddled mixture of awe and terror. What a large Queen.
B'hec rolled his eyes, refusing to release his grip on Rayth's headknob even when he reached the Queenrider. "Amelia? It's a pleasure to meet you." He'd extend a hand, but the rider had already flopped back over. Chuckled softly, the baker's grin grew and he shook his head knowingly. "My name is B'hec, of blue Rayth. I'm, ah, you know. Taking a little break from the kitchens. Rayth got his tail stepped on again." The young man turned bright red and he grinned sheepishly. "My bread burned and it was all...we got sent out, yes." Giving Rayth's head a firm shake, he glanced down. "Don't be rude. Say hello to Amelia's Queen!"
Rayth gulped, sinking down on his haunches as he gazed towards the sky. H-hello, he whined, sinking further towards the ground.
B'hec sighed and shook his head. "He's very shy."

"That's no good!" She rolled on to her side to regard the blue and his injured tail and smiled, "A baker hmn? I can cook decently but... you risk your life if I bake. Better with explosives and rocks then pastries and dough." Amelia couldn't help the bemused expression as the other shook his dragon's head, similar to how she used to handle Sharath to keep the gold in line. Of course that was long past now and she'd just look silly if she tried to man handle her dragon.
"Oh, that's Sharath. Come down here!" She called, having had to rise so she could wave her arms at the gold. "What's it like continuing your craft after you've impressed? We don't do that at the Weyr - you traing for riding from the time you Impress on." And well, her transition from crafter to rider was unusual to begin with.
Sharath bugled her response and swept in low, deliberately letting the backwind from her wings gust over them as she landed nearby. Amelia only stuck her tongue out at the gold, "Show off." There was longing in her voice as she spoke - they should have been riding together by now but circumstances had made it otherwise.
The gold came padding up, neck arched proudly and a smug expression upon her features as she greeted the blue in turn, Hello Rayth.
Amelia turned, framed on either side by Sharath's forelimbs, "Shy? Make sure to avoid Jounoth and Sakneth then... they're, ah, aggressive." She offered her hand in greeting for either the blue to nose or the rider to shake, "Good to meet you."
