Now that she'd gotten Sharath settled after the latest fiasco, this time centered around Amelia rather then the dragon, the goldrider was just sort of wandering about the edges of fields, obviously agitated. She'd been approached by one of the Ghenzan riders and not in the 'friends' way. He'd obviously been checking her out and while he was pleasant enough, she'd found herself inexplicably intimidated... temporarily losing the ability to recognize subtleties and nuances of speech.
In short, she'd come off as far less confident and capable then she normally did. And she'd inadvertently stiffed the poor man when she'd told she had to go tend to Sharath and couldn't attend a dinner with the brown rider. It had been a confusing encounter, to say the least, but she'd fled and only now realized how much of a fool she'd made of herself.
With a huff, she flopped down on a low fence and looked at her hands with displeasure. How were you supposed to respond to that sort of thing? Let alone figure out if you were interested or not... Frankly, he was awfully handsome - tall and rugged - but she wasn't really sure beyond that.
Hrmph.
She didn't like not knowing what to do. It was awkward.

Perhaps Uuni wasn't always the most observant of people, but when you were trying your hardest to do less work, looking around was generally the best solution. She'd been glancing over at Amelia several times now. The girl looked more like a tunnelsnake caught in a corner than a human being.
What the heck was she doing out here, anyway?
Frowning, Uuni jammed her hoe into the ground for a moment and leaned on it, her eyes wandering over to the goldrider.
Makereth, Sharath hasn't died has she?.
For Faranth's sakes. Well, Uuni certainly didn't want to deal with it.
Along the mental line, Uuni could distinguish the obvious sound of Makereth mentally reaching out for Sharath. Uuni wants to know if you've died. Asking Sharath if she'd died was obviously not necessary. Any dumb idiot with a mental connection would realize, if you can talk to them, they're still alive. But, it was fun to ask anyway.
And now, of course, Amelia knew where she was. If she wanted help with whatever it was she was twitching out about, Uuni decided she would just have to march her hind end right over and ask. She wasn't anyone's mother. Faranth be praised for that one.

Sharath's short, disgruntled reply to the ridiculous question was Idiot. She was alive and well, thanks, if somewhat caught up in entertaining murderous fantasies regarding a certain rider. Why? The gold did, however, inform Amelia of the blue and his rider's inquiry, making sure to give voice to just how stupid she thought the question was.
Amelia couldn't help but laugh at that, shaking her head. And why do they think you'd just up and died?
Sharath gave a mental shrug, Another stupid 'joke' maybe? Maybe Uuni's drunk? Or... Makereth. I'm going to go see if Makereth got his nose into a barrel of booze.
The goldrider shook her head at that, far too inclined to imagine a drunk blue with a large spirits barrel stuck to his head, stumbling around. If you think that's what he's up to...
I don't. But I'm bored. And Makereth drunk would be entertaining, don't you think Mine? Spin him thrice and point him in the direction of the Ghenza commons? The gold rumbled with amusement.
Hey. Be nice. Amelia glanced back at the fields where Sharath's form cut a large silhouette against the sky but she didn't move. Jesting dragons was an opportunity for flattened feet and bruised ribs - both of which she'd rather avoid.

The message forwarded, Uuni had determined that Amelia was freaking out about something else entirely. And, if it wasn't life-threatening, then she was just going to get back to work.
Boring, stupid work. At least she could imagine how nice it would be to ki--
It was about that time that the massive gold ambled up, and so her addled thoughts regarding a certain bet-taker were silenced by shadow.
Makereth gave a long, whirring sound from his throat and fluffed out his wings. Sharath was more than amusing, and so very serious. Did you know they use wher-dung to help fertilize the fields? Makereth explained. Whether they did or not was completely moot, but he didn't suppose Sharath would be too keen on realizing she was tromping through filth.
Uuni wrinkled up her nose and looked back at Hers. Farming. Yuck.
"If you're going to start pacing like your rider, can you do it over there? Really far away? I like my height, thank you."

Sharath wrinkled her nose at that greeting, lifting one forelimb to sniff at it then wipe the muck off on a nearby post, leaving a good-sized smear of filth clinging to the side. Oh, you're not drunk. The gold almost sounded disappointed.
When the gold had moved past Amelia, the goldrider had watched with interest as her lifebond's shoulders slumped. Not drunk?
No. Came the reply as the dragon sighed hugely. There went that method of entertainment. I'm also not stupid enough to tread on Makereth's, Sharath continued, annoyed the other might insinuate something like that.
Amelia got up and wandered over as well, catching that last with, "Sharath says she wouldn't step on you. But I don't think she came over to mush up your furrows." Waving as she came up from behind the gold, the girl sighed then paused. Ooh! right! Uuni had a girlfriend. And while that was different then being approached by a suitor, the concept was the same, wasn't it?
"Oh, hey... I have a question. You and your girlfriend, from the Quarantine, do you spend a lot of time together? She seemed to be more helpful then me..." She bit her lip at that and shook her head, trying to find the right words, "That is, I meant... you looked awfully companionable. Uh...how?" Amelia looked away, embarassed to be asking (kind of?) for help from the one that had garnered a reputation for sleeping around.
But still, if she managed to bed so many people, didn't she know how that sort of thing went? Uuni had to know something.
Amelia fidgeted as her dragon regarded her curiously. The goldrider had been ancy ever since that guy tried to make a move and it bothered Sharath to see Hers so out of sorts.

Wait. . . wait what?
Uuni looked at Amelia as though she had slept all day on a Ghenza work day. "Hang on, back up. Back up, back up, back up!"
Uuni took a deep breath when she had silence. "Just to get this clear. I," she said as she pointed to herself. "Do not have a girlfriend." That would have been disastrous. At first, she'd thought Amelia had been talking about Avery, and she'd almost had a heart attack. Surprisingly, she was more willing to accept a relationship with Kesslan than with Avery. There was a problem there. One she'd think about later.
Now that she had the issue of the moment clarified, Uuni could concentrate on what Amelia was really asking. "How?" she asked, but the question was rhetorical. "Kesslan thinks she's sly and sneaky that's how." Nevermind the fact she'd clearly been leaning on the woman that night. Clearly not minded the contact.
Then, realization struck her. A grin spread over her lips, her teeth flashing white in the sunny air. "Oh-hoh. You've got your eye on a man. About time. Was he cute? Did you give him a nice smile? You should, it helps out their ego a little."
The fidgeting was more than adorable, especially coming from Amelia. "Come on, spill." She was all ears on this one.

"What're you two then? Lovers?" Amelia murmured, pretty sure she'd made a mistake as soon as she saw the toothy grin appear on Uuni's face. They might be friends but Amelia didn't know very much about the bluerider... well, beyond rumour that was.
Straightening up, the goldrider shook her head, "Ah... well. That's not quite it. And he was handsome... a brown rider. But..." She pursed her lips as she tried to figure out what to say, then ended up just spilling it all when she found she couldn't really put it delicately without bending the truth. "But I botched it. He came up to me, we started talking... he kept eyeing me, even tried to put a hand on my hip and called me pretty for an outsider... then asked me to eat dinner with him. Then I, ah, told him I had to oil Sharath and left."
She glanced up at the gold who tossed her head, eyes whirling with annoyance, "But Sharath wanted to eat him. Says she doesn't trust someone like that. He seemed nice enough, though... I couldn't figure out what to do. And you... er, you get around, I figured you had experience with such things?"

Lovers? Oh man, this girl was on one, wasn't she?
"Hah," Uuni responded with a snort. "Kesslan wishes." That toothy grin certainly stayed and she could see the realization set in on Amelia's face. Whether or not believed her was moot. The point was to have shut her up so that rumour didn't spread like wildfire. It probably already had.
"Brownriders tend to be dull," Uuni said, wrinkling up her nose and waiting for inevitable to happen. Off Amelia went, pouring her heart all over the ground like molten caramel.
"Ooooh, daring boy, was he?" Pretty for an outsider. What a lame compliment. "So typical. I was hoping for something exiciting. You didn't miss out on much. He'd probably a bit sore and insecure in bed." Would have been fun to mess around with, though. Damn. She should have been there.
Straightening up and moving the hoe to a different location in the ground, Uuni pronounced herself ready for some good teaching. "Well, that depends. Do you want to love 'em, or do you want to ******** 'em?" That little word-slang that Janga stuck on was kind of fun. She should try it more often.

Amelia fell quiet as Uuni spoke, her expression going from a friend seeking advice to someone who wasn't quite sure what to make of the advice options. Love 'em or ******** 'em? She frowned, "That's the same thing, Uuni, and not in particular, no. Well... I mean, he was handsome and if it came to that... I don't see why not, but. Uh. Does that really matter?"
She shrugged, "And I certainly don't want to be weyrmates. That's just... no, not here. I'd sooner be a drudge then a weyrmate here. Besides, I doubt I can have one. I've more important things to do then fuss over some boy." Of course, her trying to cover her tracks was doing the exact opposite - she'd be attracted, alright, but unversed in the arts of seduction and the social plays of such events.
Sighing, Amelia shrugged and fell silent.

There was a shrug in response and she raised both her brows at the girl. "It kind of does," she said with a laugh. "Because otherwise you'll find yourself doing something you don't want to." She tapped her temple as if to enunciate this point and frowned as Amelia went off into uncertainly land.
"Seems simple," Uuni said, stretching. "You're not looking for something long term, you're not huge on a straight screw, but you want to be able to settle with a little short-time companionship, right?"
This was going to be easy.
"Give me a week, and I'll have you knocking boys off their feet." There was a look, a stern look or Uuni, given to Amelia. "But, you have to be willing to give up your free time. You've got a lot of work to go, there, goldrider."
She held out her hand and gave the girl a wink. "Can you take it?"

Amelia's gaze shifted back to Uuni as the blue rider claimed it was simple. Not as far as she was concerned! If it was simple, she wouldn't be feeling so lost right about now, thanks! Though... Uuni's guess was pretty much accurate. "Ah... I guess so."
She pursed her lips. A week? "You really think a week will be long enough?" Amelia didn't look particularly excited about that. She knew she could clean up decently but... that was about it. Growing up an Excavator, not a whole lot of people took notice of you and courting the boys you grew up and considered as close as brothers was just odd.
After a moment's hesitation, she nodded, "I think I can. I know I'm not much to work with, being more comfortable in dirt and grit then I am in a dress. But I'll try what you've got to teach." She offered an uncertain smile.

"We're going to find out, aren't we?" The spark in Uuni's voice was a dare. This whole thing may very well drive both of them mad, but that was half the fun.
Plus, it gave Makereth something to do. Going man hunting from the sky was never something Uuni had considered due to the complete lack of wings. Though she could not yet go with Makereth, he seemed content to give her the rundown of potentials from his vantage point.
"It's Ghenza, Amelia," Uuni answered her with a laugh. "I doubt you need to be cleaned up to catch eyes. Culture adaption, think quick. If you showed up dressed like a Lady Holder, they'd probably find a reason to isolate you." Which just made her job all the easier.
"Meet me at breakfast tomorrow. We'll have ourselves a good time, right?" She nudged the girl in the gut with her elbow.
"Well, pick up a hoe - did you know that's what they were called? It's amusing, really - or off with you. I have work to do."

"Oh... that's true." She nodded, biting her lower lip, hoping Uuni didn't expect her to put on some sort of show for the boys... Though, the thought of having them fawn over her was entertaing (and not unappealing).
"Breakfast time, gotcha." Amelia mock-saluted Uuni then and blinked when she was reminded of the hoe. Hoe? Really? That was such an odd word. Laughing she stepped forward and found a tool for herself. "Might as well help you since you're helping me."
