The Legend of the Hanging Tree: A Tale of Lament
There are stories and then there are legends, your mother's tale falls somewhere between them. There have been many stories told of her, and no one, not even herself can say which are true.
However, a stallion named Horus, helped a mare by the name of Grauen Kerze to search for some famed book. She believed that the books were hers, and that she was birthed from the candle flame that watched as the Brother's Grimm wrote their fairytales.
But when she found the book, she found they would not open for her but only Horus. She was angry and jealous that the object she had long sought for was useless to her. In the end, they parted ways.
Horus never told her the truth of the books.
According to him, not only Grauen Kerze, but Lament and many other's stories are written within the pages of the books. Some are under other names, but a careful eye can pick out the details.
How much of that is true, and how much of that is part of his manipulating and sinister character of Horus cannot be said. However, he he has taken it upon himself to enlist favours from others, and send them out with the tales in the hopes of drawing the characters ( or more aptly victims) to him. For what is a storyteller without stories or characters?
It is he who enlisted Tethys in a promise to help with her deteriorating eyesight to tell the story of Lydia and Lance.
Here in part lies the tale, he has enlisted her to spread.
Lydia was young and impressionable when she met Lance—the dark, charming brother of her best friend, Velia. It wasn’t long before the young pair was seeking more and more time alone. They were both daydreaming of a “happily ever after”.
Lance came home, to where Velia and Lydia would be waiting for him. He knew something was wrong as soon as he came upon the place. The usually warm light of their home was dimmed, and as he called out his voice echoed blankly against the wall.
The horror met his eyes when he stepped him, the fresh smell of blood made him wretch. Lydia was bloody and unconscious, but Velia…his only living family, the most tender one he’d ever known was dead. She had been murdered.
Over the next few weeks, Lance, already interested in the darker arts, prepared his sister’s body for re-entry into this world so that she could rejoin them. Lydia healed though she was darker and more sullen—tortured. She would never be the same.
Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where they strung up a man they say murdered three. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
It was over these weeks that they devised their plan of vengeance against three stallions that had attacked Lydia and murdered Velia.
On the darkest of nights, All Hallow’s Eve, Lance and Lydia crept through the dark—stealing into the homes of the three stallions and releasing their cursed souls from the homes of their body in bloody and cruel ways. The sounds of the stallions screams were just dying out when Lance and Lydia made it home.
The cave walls reflecting the soft candlelight, as Lydia went outside to gather more wood. Lance began the ceremony, calling forth his sister from death to rejoin the living. Her lid twitched, just as they invaded his cave.
Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where the dead man called out for his love to flee. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
There had been witnesses who had seen Lance making his way back to the cave, and they had come to take him. It did not matter that he had done this of vengeance for his sister. Lydia came running as she heard the scuffle, but Lance yelled for her to flee.
That night they hung him. Are you, are you Coming to the tree Where I told you to run so we’d both be free. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Lydia sobbed long into the night. She did not know the way of the dark arts, so there was no way she could bring either Lance or Velia back. She was destined to a life without them. The thought was simply unbearable. She would find her freedom with him then.
Are you, are you Coming to the tree Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me. Strange things did happen here No stranger would it be If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Going back to their abandoned home, she picked up the wilted bouquet for the wedding they had never been able to have. Placing the veil over her hair, she made her way slowly back to him like the sound of a funeral march.
***
It was in the dawn that they discovered Lydia hanging beside Lance.
It is said that some how they made their way back to this world. They are neither alive nor truly dead. Their names forgotten as they wander looking for each other for eternity—destined never to find each other again.
It is Horus belief that Grauen Kerze is the Velia , Lament is the Lydia, and Voodoo is the Lance mentioned in the story. Whether that is true or not, we may never know.
Perhaps, the real question should be is :What does he get by spreading the tale and finding them?

The Mother: Lament has long forgotten her name. Barely alive with a rope around her neck, she was found by Hades. She has no recollection of her past except faint remembrances a song long since faded away. Her memory is scattered, she cannot remember what is true and what is dream. Her memories of meeting Hades have melded into memories and dreams of his son Westrion, who is in his likeness. For the first time in years, she has decided to truly try to learn the past or forget it forever with Westrion's help. It was on this journey, that they fell in love. The Father: He is a warrior, strong and fierce but also compassionate. He helps his father guide the dead and gives aid to those who are dying or in need of assistance with his knowledge of plants and stones. He is his father’s son, though he is not as antisocial as Háidēs, but quite the opposite, he enjoys the attention of others, especially mares. Westrion is quite the gentleman, he is polite to those who he speaks to, but it is also firm when needed. He is gentle with his patients and remains by their side as they pass on from this world. He is kind and considerate, and he is willing to accept everyone for who they are. When he met Lament he felt an emotion he had never felt before towards another being that was not related to him and he felt compelled by the Fates to aid her in her search for her memories.
The Extended Family
The Uncle: Erebes is the brother of Westrion and is a changeling. Because he sees himself as different than the rest of his family, Erebes has a darker nature. He is skilled with plants and has his own apothecary where he brews up interesting concoctions. He is not truly evil, but he has been influenced by darkness so he would not be the nicest stallion to encounter. Once he was old enough to live on his own he left his family to make a name for himself, Westrion has not seen him since. He will most likely not be a frequent sight in the foals' lives.
The Grandmother: Once upon a time Carolina, a.k.a. Lina, was in love. Or that was what she thought. As she got older, he got tired, and moved on. After that happened, Lina knew she never wanted to feel unloved or that feeling of self loathing, and she decided to do what she wanted no matter what anyone else thought. From that day on, she has made her decisions with her heart and it has steered her in the right path so far. Lina’s soul is kind and can look past the problems that others have with themselves and love them for who they are. In this way she opens her heart. However, if her trust in another is broken, good luck gaining that trust back. She can become stubborn when needed, and turn to caring with in seconds.
The Grandfather: The great titans Cronus and Rhea had many children, and of their three sons, Háidēs was the oldest; but he was not as accepted as his brothers Zeus and Poseidon were throughout the realm. There has always been an aura of darkness surrounding him that set him away from the others and since he was a foal, he knew that he was different, the black wings on his back gave proof to that; he did not look like his brothers at all. Zeus was a uni with lightning markings all across his body and Poseidon was a kelpi who preferred to be left alone with those under the water. His mother had told him constantly that he was special, more than his younger brothers; Háidēs believed her, for a while. As he grew, he started to notice that the mares he met or showed interest in, shunned him; turned their backs and walked the other direction, laughing as they went on their way; they hated him for what he was. Háidēs continued on with life, but living it alone, not communicating with others besides his brother Zeus on rare occasions. He kept to himself in his own little world, tormenting himself with his aloneness. Strangers never visited, and he liked to keep it that way. The living did not like him and he did not like the living. His life changed drastically when he fell in love with Lina. He became less of a recluse and started to open up. He was able to form relationships with others besides his patients. Thanks to Lina the world is able to see what a kind and compassionate stallion he really is, despite his fascination with death.
Grauen Kerze: What is her real story? Who can really say? Grauen Kerze does not remember much of her early life, to her one day she simply existed. It is her belief that she was born of the flames of a candle that overlooked the works of the Brothers Grimm. She fed off of the fear in the stories until she was able to take on a life of her own. The shadows on her coat show the story of their tales in lurid details. She will defend this belief at all costs, and is not to be challenged (however untrue it may seem to be). Despite feeding like other soquilli, she also feeds on fear. The tantalizing taste of terrorizing someone--human or soquilli, is a taste she can't give up. First, she stole a basket and named it Brutus, giving it a collar to symbolize it's belonging to her. He has become her protector and the only one that can stop her from going too far. He protects her against herself. All of her life, she has been searching for books of lore, books that will allow the soquilli to read it and to twist tales into reality. However, upon her finding the books with a lowly foal named Avia, she discovered much to her chagrin that they won't open. Sometime later, she encounters Horus and she is angered that he can, in fact, read the book and it's story and she cannot. Now, she, Horus and Brutus travel together--but whispers have started, stirring something deep in her soul. Whispers of a a girl named Lydia, a curse, and a Hanging Tree. She has yet to figure out what they mean. She has not yet heard the story of "The Hanging Tree".
Horus: Horus doesn't remember much of his childhood, only that he was left an orphan. He was in his teen years when Grauen Kerze and her "pet" Brutus found him. Finding that he could not manipulate Grauen Kerze, but rather could learn from her--he took up with the pair. He is a master of manipulation. A pension for pulling other's strings and to make them do as he wanted. When Grauen took him in, he became even better at it. For years, he remained subservient of her, barely containing his urge to leave her. Grauen struck a deal to teach him what she knows, if he will master the books for her. Horus, being the master of the books, is the only one that can read from them. Grauen is determined that somewhere in the text resides her story, one that she has forgotten. Horus, however, told her that her story was not in the book (even though it was. For a time, he stayed with Grauen Kerze after she freed Brutus, until they parted ways also. The books that he carries, hold stories of terror, love, and other great events. He uses his book as his best tool of manipulation. He pretends to have whatever stories he needs if the book doesn't actually contain them. His web of lies is intricate, and as he pulls the strings tighter and tighter, the soquili all fall into line with his plans.
The Siblings:

– Nyx’s Basket
Name: E ----------
Meaning: Underworld Myth
Nickname:
Temper: Harbringing
Personality:
E---- has always felt the heavy weight of duty as the first born.
Her grandfather taught her that there are laws, and that laws must be obeyed. She understood that. There were some things that must be inflexible. He had taught her the words over and over. Dura lex sed lex "The law is hard, but it is the law."
Laws were not guidelines to follow by, they were absolutes. As she grew, she believed in it more and more clinging to the rigidity of the absolutes when faced with uncertainty. Laws are not meant to be broken.
Her sister I----'s carefree and light nature troubles her. How could one sibling be so dismissive of laws and absolutes, so unworried while one suffered for it?
The divide grows between them as E---- fears for her sister and then begins to pity her. Her sister was obviously not cut out for the job, did not take things seriously as she should--and so she did not deserve the honour.
As often happens, envy and pity turned to indifference, and then to a form of disrespect, perhaps even hate. E---- is haughty and proud, strong and resolute. Often seen as rigid or cruel, she believes and obeys the laws perfectly. She believes that a soquili's good actions never negate the bad, and vice versa. She would both punish a soquili for their misdeeds and reward them for their good ones, because for her one action does not cancel out the other.
She holds everyone, even her siblings, to this high standard.

– Thalea’s Basket Name: I -----
Meaning: Underworld Myth
Nickname: ----
Temper: Vivacious
Personality:
Life is a blessing and death is the gift of rest for the vivacious souls who live upon the earth. I--- is the complete opposite of her sister, she does not allow the weight of the world to weigh her down upon her shoulders. She is carefree in nature and eager to love. Life is her playground and everything is striking and beautiful.
Many believe that because she continues to see the world wish a childish sense of wonder, she is not completely there or not quite as bright as her other siblings. When in truth, her mind is quick and she has an innate ability to strategize.
In one moment she goes from Lover to fighter. Battle and wars are a part of life, they are not something to fret about or flee from, and to her they are an obstacle that must be met head on.
I---- knows that her sister views her with pity and contempt, in the beginning the attitude of her sister saddened the young mare, but she soon realized that her sense of sadness and depression over the thoughts and actions of her sister was futile. E--- was her own person and made her own choices, I--- did the same and was going to continue to live her life how she wanted to live it.
The relationship of the three siblings was tenuous at best, but when I--- made a mistake, the siblings’ lives were changed forever.

So! Now that you have read through everything, you can now try for the wonderful basket! Just fill out the form and answer the prompt!
Prompts:
1) Death is a part of everyone's story, just not as much as it is perhaps yours. You are the child of Lament and Westrion, and because of that you have a unique relationship with the death, the caretaker is your grandfather. He is a ferryman between life and death, eventually you are expected to fulfill this role in some way. Because of this your grandfather takes you with him as a foal to a familiar, a sentient being, that has died honorably. He leaves it to you, to talk with them as they die and say the words as they pass into the other world. Please describe how your attempt goes:
2) Write a poem of the same "feel" for the Brother. How does he feel about the death of his sister by his other sister's hands? Does he feel the punishment was just?
3) Your sister's are in a war with each other. I---- convinced E----'s lover to help her in a fight that went horribly wrong. In the end, E's lover is dead and nothing can bring him back. E will not forgive her sister for her role in the death and so has planned to make her sister pay for killing the stallion she loved most in the world. You know that I--- was partially to blame for the death, though she did not mean for it to happen. It was an unfortunate accident at best. They are both your sisters, what do you do? Do you think that I should pay for what she's done? Do you think that E has taken this too far? Or do you let them fight it out alone? Tell us your side of the story and what side you chose. My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns.
Name: {What is the name of the handsome son of Lament and Westrion?}
Name Meaning: {Does the name have a special meaning?}

Here There Be Poems!
High in the clouds do I rest, A place where I’m truly blessed. Love, fertility, and warfare are my domain, And in heaven I did not remain. For with a heart full of passion that burns, I wished entrance to land from which no traveler returns. Dressed in my finest attire, I descend to witness the funeral pyre. At each gate I passed, I gave up my worldly possessions as asked. To my sister I was brought, Unaware of her wicked plot, Naked and bowed low, The Judges of the Underworld, surrounded me to bestow, Their judgment against me, Before I could utter a plea, My sister did her worse, With a look she cast her curse. I was engulfed by death, And the world went dark as I exhaled by last breath.
---------------------------
Death is my domain, And in the Underworld do I remain. My siblings are free, Able to live in the land above me, Bitterness fills my heart, With my husband gone my life must restart, His death brings my sister to my land, A thought that I cannot stand. Trials she must pass at each gate, And naked before me she must wait. Judgment shall be passed, For the rules of the underworld must last. No traveler must return, For many would yearn, To be the one, To leave and return to the land of the sun. My sister’s copse hangs on the wall, Without the protection of a shawl, Brother has learned of my deed, And others have come to plead, For me to return my sister to the land of the living, But they all know to enter the land of the dead is unforgiving. Oh, Curse you bright sister who rules the skies, You may have regained your life, but to return to the underworld would be unwise. Remain where you are, On your bright star.
---------------------
I can walk amongst the dead and the living, And not suffer the repercussions of the unforgiving. Truth and justice are what I seek, And protection of the weak. My two sisters, twins at birth but different at heart, Their separate fates tore them apart. One is bright and shining, living in the heavens, While the other dark and ominous, residing in the Underworld .
Who am I?

My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns. Name: Utu
Name Meaning: he's the god of the sun truth law and justice in sumerian mythology
Temper: Judging
Personality: Utu is kind and gentle. But he can also be hard and cold and unforgiving. When Utu first meets a person they are in the 'grey zone' to these people he can come off as a little cold and distant. This is because he is watching and judging them. Often with people in the grey zone he will ask them why they do things and what motivated them to make a decision. This faze in his relationship can last from a day to years. But he always reaches a decision about a person. And when he's finally judges you you can go into the 'good person zone' or 'bad person zone' he will be friendly and open and talkative(as in he'll say more then a couple of sentences when they speak) to people he considers good. But if he puts you in the bad zone he'll stop talking to you and pretend you don't exist. unless you annoy him too much then he'll act aggressive and will get loud. His family all reside in the Good person zone. Until the incident with his siblings. They are now in the grey zone and he's very hesitant to move them to the bad zone. He sees death as an end of the road and does not mourn it. But he understands why one would mourn the absence of a friend or family. And he also did not think anyone had the right to snuff out another's life an doing so no matter the situation would place you on his black list.
Do you Like to RP?: I love RP and find it very important to develop a character and their relationships to other soquili. (Which probably means Utu's personality might change a little once I start RPing him.)
Proof of 2014 Roleplay:[x]
Plots: He meets someone which he obviously put is the grey zone. This person might have a trait about them that Utu doesn't like, maybe they're very selfish or a playboy who breaks hearts like they breath. So he'll put them in the bad zone, even if he likes them because their spunky or something. But when he does start ignoring them they wont accept it cause they really actually like Utu. They found him interesting or something. So they try all they can to get him to pay attention not knowing about how Utu judges people and puts them in categories. Then either he gets aggressive with them and they leave and he feels the lose which makes him a little more forgiving of some negative traits. or he takes the person back because he really did like them and realized he'd regretted blocking them out, making him more tolerant of some negative traits. This could be romance or just a real strong friendship. Maybe have him help people make decisions of their own and one day gets caught up in a lose lose situation. He helps the person make a choice and maybe it was the wrong one and he has to live with the consequences because of it. He becomes more cautious when helping people.
And of course family plots. I see you have a few juicy ones set up.
Prompt Response: 3) Your sister's are in a war with each other. :
Utu never really understood though how two sisters could hate each other so much. Growing up with them had been a trial. Always being in the middle of their spats. Trying to be the older brother by telling them to play nice. Always turning to their parents for help when they got to out of hand. And their father coming over and putting a stop to it, which always surprised him, seeing their kind gentle father with an angry face sternly telling i and E not to fight. He never though that their little child hood fights would escalate so much. He never thought they'd have such drastic consequences. When the war first broke out he tried as he could to end it, but as a child he could not. He did not think he should get their father involved this time, they were adults they should be able to handle themselves.
But then Utu heard the news of what I had done and was horrified, Accident or no she had done something wrong. I should never have endangered the life of E's lover. But E not stopping to consider that it was her sister and basically declaring revenge? They were both wrong, both making the worst decisions. He gave up on them then, he couldn't side with either. Not when ones actions lead to the death of a soquili, even when it was an accident, and the other trying for death? Did they even think what this fight would do to their parents? their kind gentle father and their darling loving mother. He really could not forgive them. He started to treat them like he would a stranger. He stopped being their big brother , stopped trying to end their fights and stopped trying to protect them from themselves. He just did not have the heart to cut them out completely. How could he when he grew up with them? When they were his blood? He loved his sisters even with the tension they had for years, even with all of the wrong decisions they had made, or how angry he was now at them. He loved them and to look threw them, to pretend they were never there he couldn't do it. How could he do that to them? He couldn't. So he just acted cold, and unloving trying to find something to bring them back to good in his eyes.
Anything else? Just I love what your doing with these myths. And love the myth these guys are coming from.

My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns. Name: Arawn
Name Meaning: Arawn was the king of the otherworld realm of Annwn. Annwn is a pleasant kingdom of Welsh Mythogy's Underworld myths.
Temper: Wise
Personality: Never one to let others dictate his actions or put words into his mouth, he is a lot more easy-going than first impression gives off. He is always one to listen to his Father and heeds whatever advice or words the elder gives him. He holds a high respect for those who brave death and those who face danger with a level-head. He always is curious about learning new things never stopping in his exploration of ones mind unless his Parents scold him for being too noisy. He has moments when it seems that he's not all there, it is during these moments that his mind is actually moving faster than he could catch up. He actually has a stubborn streak which can be poked as he lets most things roll over him because in his mind "I may not exactly be right, but at least I don't spot nonsense" <---due to this thought, one could call him a 'know-it-all'...
If his parents or grandparents tell him something he listens with rapt attention as he knows the information they'll give him is invaluable.
Do you Like to RP?: OwO YES!!!!!
Proof of 2014 Roleplay: I don't have a SoQ to RP yet!!! T^T Or at least I haven't started one with either of my Co-Owns...but, Does this work?
Plots: Pfft...someone putting the little stubborn know-it-all in his place or at least teach him that its okay to listen to other adults.
Family Plots!!! Kodak moments ahoy~!
Prompt Response: 1- The young foal trotted happily after his honored Grandfather. The Elder Stallion was taking the foal with him for the youth's first 'passing'. Arawn looked up to his Grandfather, "Grandfather...who is it this time? You've never taken me with you before...Grandfather?"
The elder male didn't answer but led the foal to grey area, Arawn paused at the sight of the stallion before him. The male was a war horse that the foal knew as the Father of one of his best friends. Why was he here? What had happened to his friend? Where was his friend? What about the stallions mate?
Arawn slowly stepped forward as the stallion turned his head to look down at him. The foal looked back but his Grandfather was no where behind him. He was on his own for this one. He took a breath and looked at the male before him, "Hi...Elder Shadlyn. Do you know where you are?"
The stallion slowly smiled, "She's still with them for now little Arawn. I know where I am...I died."
The foal watched the older male lay on his side to watch the mists, the foal came up to his side and mimic the position. Arawn looked up, "What happened?"
Shadlyn inhaled slowly, "It was a storm...i ground had been loosened my eldest stallion tried to tred it as his younger brother was trapped on the other side. He should of waited...as the land slid downward towards him. I pushed him to his younger brother...all I can really recall is darkness."
Arawn looked at the ground before jumping up, "Don't worry about a thing! My Father and Mother will keep Brighta and the boys happy! I won't leave his side no matter what!!!"
The stallion smiled, "I trust you little one, but..."
"No buts! You have to move on...your Stallions will grow strong. Your mate will be safe...You don't have to worry. Besides, you can watch them from a better seat on the other side anyways." Arawn said flatly.
Shadlyn started chuckling. The stallion stood then looked to a unseen light, he glanced back down to the child nodding; "My herd is safe...thank you Arawn."
"See you later, Elder Shadlyn." the foal said as the male walked away. He watched the male fade then looked to his honored Grandfather, "I did it!!!"
Anything else? I mentioned the parents of my quest thread brothers...XD Just to give the brothers a lil more backstory...

Addendum to Rule 1:
If you are a newbie with no soquili, you must provide a RP from elsewhere before the start date.
If you have a soquili, but have received them ONLY in the past three weeks (February 10th or after) then if you can provide proof that you've rped elsewhere, we will allow you to enter. If you are a newbie that received a soquili prior to February 10th, but have no Soquili RP, then I'm sorry but you are out of luck.
We are trying our best to make sure that this is fair to everyone. We decided 3 weeks or longer of having a soq was enough time to get some RP.
Thank you for your understanding.
Thalea will be adding this to her rule post when she's home this afternoon.

My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns. Name:Rhadamanthus
Name Meaning: One of the three judges of the dead in Greek mythology
Temper: Determinate
Personality:Bend, lest you will break. Radamanthus starts out as a foal with a very strong sense of law and justice, which aren't always the same thing. Somewhere between the carefree, free spirit of I----- and the strict absolutism of E ---------- .He believes in justice more than law, and that there is the possibility for redemption and to make up for past mistakes. He will allow for second chances, an attitude that would bring him to butt heads with E ---------- sometimes, more often than he would like, but less often than I ----- would.
Hope is for the weak and for when action fails He is pragmatic, knowing better than most that life wasn't always fair, nor did things work out well, just because one wanted them to. He believed in acting to attain ones goals and desires. But sometimes even actions aren't enough, and all that is left is the nebulous ephemeral concept that is hope. An only then does he accept hope as a valid action or response.
He starts out close to both his sisters, and watches without interfering as the schism develops... it isn't his place to act. He is saddened to see this, and starts to withdraw from both, devoting his time to learning from his father and grandfather. And spending time there versus with his siblings. As he learns, and makes mistakes, he grows into confidence and resoluteness, knowing what is right, what is wrong, what is just and what is not. He becomes strong enough to make tough decisions and stand by them no matter the outcome....
Beyond this, he is subject to change and growth as happens through rp.
Do you Like to RP?: I love to rp. Though recently I have found aim to be better and easier than guild... (I will def. Pm my aim sn if I win for the purposes of rp and plotting)
Proof of 2014 Roleplay:x
Plots: A few basic plots, which could be springboards for more future plots Foalhood- *Individual rps with E---------- and I----- *Rps with both and as a whole family *Learning from father, and grandfather
Young adulthood/adulthood- *Is Blood thicker.... (as his relationship with his sisters changes, does it become damaged beyond repair, or do the ties of family still remain) *Difficult decisions (he is forced into situations where he must make difficult decisions, whether by siblings, or parents or grandparents....) *Living with Consequences *Fragile ( one decision he makes ends very badly, shattering his belief in himself leaving him very vulnerable emotionally – at this time he can be found by someone who wants to use him or manipulate him and leave him broken, or he could be found by someone who will help him regain himself and become stronger in himself or whatever... heck even both in the long run)
Prompt Response:3) Your sister's are in a war with each other.
In the furthest reaches of his memory, Rhadamanthus could remember a time when they were siblings, when they loved one another and still got along. It was so long ago though, a time so distant, it was hazy, almost like a dream. They used to get along. They used to be happy. But something happened... for the life of him, he could not remember exactly what it was. Only that they started to grow distant and angry, using him as an intermediary when he would allow it, asking him to pick a side. But they were family, and in his mind family should not be at war with one another.
So he distanced himself from them both. Spending more and more time with grandfather. So he wasn't there to watch everything fall apart. But now, this war was all he could really remember. It was all he knew existed between them anymore. And like it or not, there was nothing he could do. And he refused to take sides. It wasn't his fight, nor his place to get involved. This was their fight, and they should be able to work it out amongst themselves... at least, he hoped so.
But then the accident occurs. Well, one called it an accident, the other called it deliberate- murder and betrayal at the highest level. And she vowed to make the other pay. Dura lex sed lex. To this, he could not agree. E. is far too hard in her punishment and I. wasn't entirely to blame. Sure, it was because of I. that the stallion had been there, but how was she to know what would happen. And it was also the stallion's choice. Just because you love someone, it doesn't mean you have the right to take their choices away from them.
Just because you love someone, you don't have the right to take their choices away from them.... Though he felt that this was all completely wrong, he loved both his sisters enough to let them choose the course of action they would take for themselves, no matter the fact he knew it was all wrong. And that this would only end in tragedy. He was strong enough to let the actions run their course, knowing where it led. And he would be there at the end, for the both of them. Because that was the one thing he could do.
Anything else? What an awesome family, with some really amazing plots... Thanks for the opportunity to become a part of them.

My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns. Name: Utu
Name Meaning: the Sun god in Sumerian mythology, the son of the moon god Nanna and the goddess Ningal. He is the God of sun, justice, application of law, and the lord of truth who decides the fate of the dead.
Temper: Objective
Personality: Utu does his best to judge based on facts rather than personal feelings or opinions. He wants to be able to treat all equally, not biased in the least. Sometimes emotions slip through and hinder his decision and judgment. When this happens to him, he really gets upset and tends to get withdrawn from others. He is afraid to judge others until he gets a grip on his emotions again. He doesn't want to judge someone unfairly based on his own opinion or feelings.
Utu believes in the seven virtues though he tends to break a few quite often. He punishes himself for breaking the virtues or code he chooses to live by for himself. He often breaks his code of freedom from guilt because he often feels guilt for letting emotions slip through and hindering a judgment. When it happens, he punishes himself by hitting his head against a tree trunk until he feels like he has his self-control again. Then he seeks out someone to give aid to or is in trouble of sort to even the balance. Chastity (freedom from guilt or evil; innocence) Temperance (self-control) Charity (he believes in giving back and going out of his way to help and aid others) Diligence (honest and fair) Forgiveness (composure - calmness of mind, manner and appearance) Kindness (respect) Humility (no feelings of being better than others)
Do you Like to RP?: I absolutely love to RP emotion_bigheart
Proof of 2014 Roleplay: [x]
Plots: Lots of family plots <3
It might be a fun or devastating plot for him to fall in love with a mare, but never speak of his feelings for her. Something terrible falls upon her and he doesn't get the chance to be there with her as she passes to make it easy on her. It haunts him and he feels so much guilt, he loses his self-control and his composure. He takes severe punishment upon himself only for another mare to find him (a mare from his past that has always cared about him but never shared it with him). She gets him to stop punishing himself and helps him to understand that there are some things that just can't be helped.
Due to him not being able to be there for his loved one and not being able to aid her in her time of need. Every time he goes to sleep and thinks he tries to help those he has not had the chance to help, she keeps appearing to him in his dreams. It causes him a great deal of guilt and he doesn't know how to contain it or handle it properly. This could lead to him asking the other mare for help and even family members. The loved one haunts him like a ghost in his dreams.
There could possibly be another fun/interesting plot where he is punishing himself like usual because of guilt and someone walks upon him. He tries to get them to punish him better since the tree is obviously not working since he has to keep punishing himself. The stallion or mare tries to reason with him and maybe tries to teach him how to do it better or even better he/she could teach him to control his emotions and opinions better?
Later plot - With all the punishing that is Utu hitting his head against a tree trunk, it can't possibly be good for him. I imagine it will affect his judgment but more than that it makes him see hallucinations. He sees the most horrific hallucinations of all, dead soquili, humans and familiars alike that are all around him all the time. Of course it is all in his mind, poor thing. He shouldn't have punished himself so much. Prompt Response: 1.) Death is a part of everyone's story, just not as much as it is perhaps yours. You are the child of Lament and Westrion, and because of that you have a unique relationship with the death, the caretaker is your grandfather. He is a ferryman between life and death; eventually you are expected to fulfill this role in some way. Because of this your grandfather takes you with him as a foal to a familiar, a sentient being that has died honorably. He leaves it to you, to talk with them as they die and say the words as they pass into the other world. Please describe how your attempt goes: Utu's silver eyes rested upon the poor black bear that had tried his best to protect his soquili companion from some sort of skin walker. The gashes that marked the majority of the body were deep and long in length. Utu wondered how the soquili faired or if Háidēs had found the soquili miles away and aided it. His focus returned to the familiar in front of him, bright red blood streaked through its black fur and it reminded him of Lament's tears that fell from her eyes. He found himself getting distracted again and he shook his head to clear his mind. "I'm sorry for your pain and trouble strong black bear. I'm sure you fought hard and protected your companion." He smiled down at the bear as he knew the poor thing was suffering in pain. "Why don't I sing you a song as you drift to a more peaceful world?" He took on a more serious face as he tried to pick a happy song to sing for the little bear.
The song he decided to sing was one that he had heard the natives sing from time to time.
The earth is our mother, we must take care of her.
Her sacred ground we walk upon, with every step we take.
The earth is our mother, she will take care of us. He repeated the lines softly and slowly, hopefully easing what the bear might fear to come for him. Utu didn't really fear death but enjoyed life all the more. He continued to sing to the black bear until he watched the life fade from the bear and the air leave his body with one final breath. His silver eyes stared at the body of the bear, his thoughts wondering. "I'm sorry I didn't give you something for pain or end your death for you bear. I can tell by your wounds that you fought hard, I wanted you to die rightfully." He knew it was wrong and it was from an opinion he had or something deep down inside. Normally he would have given something to ease the suffering or would have ended the life. But he could tell by looking in the bear's eyes that he was a fighter so he couldn't bring himself to do anything else for the bear. Surely if the bear could live again, he would probably have jumped on the opportunity. But no one gets a second chance at life though Lament believes she died and came back to life. There were many things Utu didn't really understand but was hoping to understand at one point. "Háidēs, your duty is a hard one." Utu spoke the words and looked at his grandfather. You had to be able to judge someone while they are dying and it wasn't an easy thing to do. He was just hoping that he made the right choice.
Anything else? His daily journey starts from a mountain in the east (signifying dawn) each morning and then his day ends when he reaches the mountain in the west (signifying dusk). It might be more than a day's journey depending on events and the time he takes searching for ones in aid. When he reaches his home that resides in the mountain in the west. He sleeps and then he believes that he goes to another world and judges the souls of the dead that he was not able to aid. (It is all a dream so he can feel at peace with himself since he can't really go out and help everyone in need.)
When Utu is aiding/assisting someone in passing, he will judge them as quick as possible. If they are good then he will ease their suffering and or sing to them. If they are bad then he will probably leave them alone to suffer and die but before leaving them he will let them know of the suffering that is waiting for them on the other side.

My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns. Name: Sephtis
Name Meaning: Eternal Death
Temper: Imperturbable
Personality: Sephtis is the center post of it all, no since of law or chaos, or maybe a mix of both, twisted in the deep subconscious of his mind. He is like a stone, unmoving, stable. He can even be as cold and uncaring as the rock. Though these feelings do not stop him from being calm, wise, and wishful
He has a deep passion for love, entertainment, and the simple joys of life. He can easily find these in the simplest things, such as death, suffering, or even helping another see them-self, open their eyes, and breathe in that which is life.
He does not stick to the law as well as E, but is not as carefree, and chaotic as I, he is the mark between the two sisters. He would not cross one line or the other, his views on justice are bent, twisted, relaxed even. Though to him Chaos is to relaxed, to giving. You can not live without the law, and you can not live without chaos, his life would fall apart if he was forced to dance off his line.
Do you Like to RP?: I love to roleplay, it is actually one of the big ways I relax and clear my mind.
Proof of 2014 Roleplay: Roleplay
Plots: I would love to place him in a few foal roleplays, maybe a little friend that can stick with him through life. He is the twisted almost dark personality and his friend thinking they can help him, or maybe even change that nature in him if they just stick around. Though the fried is pushed, and tried through it all by the male who thinks he deserves to be alone, and chooses to distance himself with small hints that friendship does matter.
I would also not mind a love plot, maybe someone who either is of light, goodness that tried to change him, or even one who brings him a little deeper into darkness. Someone who he can depend on, but also conflict of interests, a demanding, but also fun plot full of ideas and twists and turns, but in the end a loner is as a loner does and he walks away.
Prompt Response: Quote: 3) Your sister's are in a war with each other. Sephtis was always the center between his siblings, never taking one side or another because, in all fairness he loved them equally. He could not stand in their way, but he would not let one win over the other. There had to be a center line and he was it, though, the news of what happened would strike male, if there was one thing he cares about it is his family. Returning from his distance, so far, but never gone, he stayed a small distance away from the family, call it breathing room.
He would return from his small trip quickly with haste to find his sisters at war, and the mess between them. He had never thought he would have to step between them, not like this, when it was small arguments and simple fights, he was the one to step in, now, how could he stop a war, when he knew one had done wrong. I should never of endangered E's lover, how could he stand in their way, how could he pick a side when sides were not meant to be taken. his mind would be wracked with horror, pity, and anger, not at one or the other but them both for carrying this on in life.
Being what he is, he would have to step in, not to pick a side, but to explain to them that they should not fight against one another, but against the reason E's lover is dead, that two wrongs never make a right, and that leading someone recklessly into a fight was splitting the two already troubled lives apart. He would die if that was what it took to be the rock between two hard headed women. Stable and strong he would not let the war continue, instead bring it to an end. The world needs law and Chaos, without one the world is doomed, and so would his mind be lost to the same end.
Anything else? I would like to add that your history is beautifully done. It goes a lot for one to go off of, not only here, but even to the one who gets the basket. Well done <3

My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns. Name: Namtaru
Name Meaning: Mesopotamian God of Death
Temper: Apricity
Personality: Namtaru has always felt himself torn between his two dear sisters. Though they are different as night and day, he loves them both to death and tries (often in vain) to sway their view of one another with compassion. Though his efforts are typically futile, family is everything to him and he will risk his own life to protect those of his blood and ease their suffering. In line with this, he humbly accepts his future post as a guardian and guide to those that must pass from world to world. This great responsibility weighs heavily on his shoulders, but he strives to be worthy of the trust his family places in him. He works closely with his elders to make this transition from life to afterlife as smooth and painless as possible. He pities those that are about to cross worlds, not for their fate, but for the fear that many feel. He does his best to ease their anxieties, their suffering, and assure them that this is not the end, only a new beginning. While his sisters flourish in the realms of life and death, he blooms in that act of the passing. Namtaru has often heard those he aids speak of a warmth that overcomes them in the chill of death, much like a cherished beam of sunlight that shines bright on a winters day. These souls he reaches feel secure, safe, in his presence and are able to cross over, accepting their fate and moving forward to the first gate.
As for Namtaru himself, in truth he feels most at ease amongst the dearly departed. Death is a realm he knows well, but the land of the living is, in many ways, most intimidating to the stallion. Though he can usually find the words to help guide a soul from this life to the next, that same tongue seems made of lead when he tries to talk to the young and the vibrant soquili that fill the world. This timidness pains him, but he is uncertain how to overcome such a plight. He fears the only meaningful communication he will ever have outside of his family is with the dead and the dying.
Do you Like to RP?: I Love to RP! I truly believe that RP and seeing characters in different situations is a critical part of personality development (and one of my favorite parts of owning pets!). It is my personal goal to have all of my soquilii reach 100% stats and while I had some trouble finding time in 2013, but I think I finally have things together! Besides, I know this boy wants to spend time with his sisters, Mama, Papa, the rest of the family and especially Grampy!
Proof of 2014 Roleplay: This is an RP I started with my new girl from the CYO – I have a fun RP partner here and our characters are having a good talk! If you’d like to see additional examples of my RPing you can check out my Teepee – go down to the shortcut post on page 1, show the spoilers (RPs at the top of each list are the most recent).
Plots: ~ I would love to try RPs where he attempts to mediate between his sisters and help them see eye to eye (and have to deal with his failure and understand that some messages can’t be delivered) ~ I would also like to have him RP with his Grandfather with the duties that come with helping the soul move from one world to the next ~ It would be cool to see some RPs with Soquili that are near death and maybe their souls are claimed for another purpose (skinwalker?) How would Namtaru deal with that? Would he consider it a great failing? Would he question the creature’s choice? How would he deal with the carnage of the walker’s first kill (that wouldn’t be an easy death) ~ Namtaru also needs to get out and meet soquili! He helps souls move from one world to the next, he can’t do that if he doesn’t know how to talk to others and make a connection with them! (Needs to work on that shyness) ~ It might also benefit Namtaru to spend some time with Horus to learn about different death customs for various soquili breeds and familiars (mers would have different customs from winds, ect) Of course there will probably be some manipulation along the way – the boy might take a little while to catch on to that part ~ When he’s a stallion I’d like him to have one of those romances where they seem forever doomed to find one another then lose them again for a while (lost love is a big theme in Greek myths of the underworld – I’m looking at you Orpheus/Eurydice and Hades/Persephone) ~ Along that on again/off again romance the goal is for him to have a son named Nergal (because I love that name and after reading the mythology write up on him, I have a character in mind) who will love his Auntie I----- and help especially on the warfare front!
Prompt Response: 1 - Death is a part of everyone's story, just not as much as it is perhaps yours.
“Are you certain I’m ready?” Namtaru asked softly as he dutifully followed his grandfather across the blood red plains. The sun was only beginning to rise in the sky, tainting the rippling grasses in a scarlet hue. It was a new morning, it should have been a time of awakening and of new possibilities, but for the hare discarded mere feet from her den, it was her last morning on this earth. The creature would die an honorable death, Namtaru knew. He could read the subtle signs of the scuffle. The long red tail feather indicated the hawk had first disposed of the mother who only sought to protect her young. Namtaru listened closely but sadly could only hear the mother’s labored breathing. The litter was gone, he could not help them now, not even to offer the little comfort he could.
He looked up at his grandfather who nodded at the rabbit. Namtaru knew what was expected of him, he just hoped he could do it. When he talked about this act with his family, it at least seemed straight forward, but standing here now on his uncertain legs, he worried. He did not want to see this creature suffer any more than it already had. So he moved forward slowly, trying to be light on his young hooves. “Don’t fight it,” he coaxed softly, kneeling down on the ground beside her. “You will be ok. You will see your young again soon. Please don’t be afraid, the bad part,” he continued. “The frightening part is over. You are not alone. I am here, I will stay with you,” Namtaru looked back to his grandfather for guidance, but the stallion only redirected him to the dying doe. “A-after today,” he continued shakily. “You will know only peace, I promise,” he added quickly. “I am Namtaru, I take you to the first gate,” he said gently nuzzling the fallen creature and noting with some surprise that the chills and convulsions that seemed to overtake those near death eased with his contact. “You are not alone,” he repeated. “And this is not the end. Your spirit lives on and your memory will live on,” he stated this last part so softly his grandfather could barely hear. “Your memory will live on within me, I will never forget you…” As he spoke his final words he saw the rabbit’s body still and knew her spirit had left the body to begin its decent into the underworld. In his mind he could almost see the rabbit reach the first gate.
Namtaru looked up to his grandfather, his young face awash with relief he was sure. If nothing else, he managed to not cause the poor creature to suffer any more than she already had. That was a start, though he wanted to know more about this great responsibility entrusted to his family. It wasn’t enough to just keep the creature from feeling more harm, he longed to help them escape their suffering and to bring them peace. But his grandfather’s face was stoic, rewarding him with only a small nod before turning and stalking across the field. His work was never done. Before rising to his feet to follow Namtaru looked back to the empty vessel one last time and was surprised to see the flies and beetles already staking their claim on the body. Though he was shocked at nature’s rapid pace, he was not afraid or disgusted. The rabbit’s essence was safe, he’d ensured that, and now her former shell would serve to protect and feed future generations. The cycle was not right or wrong, it was only nature’s way. Much like death itself.
Anything else? I know you guys are channeling a different part of the underworld for your girls, but I just wanted to say….I’ve been obsessed with Greek Mythology since I was 9 years old. The first story I remember hearing was the tale of Hades and Persephone. At the time it scared my much younger self out (I mean, a guy can come up out of the ground and snatch you away from your friends and family – sounds horrifying, right?) As I got older, my perspective changed a bit. From a more logical angle I could see this was an old tale a woman passing from her father’s care into the care of her husband which made it Slightly less creepy. The romantic side of me, on the other hand, saw this as a love story with the greatest potential for angst and finding love over and over again. Because Hades is that guy from the romance novels (tall, dark, strong, mysterious past and misunderstood – the brooding type) and Persephone, she is Literally Light (spring time, flowers, purity, goodness) and once they get past that initial phase of getting used to each other, they find they complete each other. But because of the whole pomegranate seed deal, they are always losing one another only to find each other again. I would love to do some sort of plot for this boy along those lines.
I also love this whole family! I’ve admired Nyx’s candle girl since that Halloween event and the Hanging Tree herself is Lovely! It’s so awesome that you’ve created this wonderful plot for all of them. I would really love to be a part of this story and to see how it all unfolds!

My Wish Is To Enter To The Land From Which No Traveler Returns. Name: Utu
Name Meaning: He was the Sun God in Sumerian mythology who would return to the Underworld at Night to decide the fate of the dead
Temper: Sustainable
Personality: A calm and quiet sort of soq, Utu likes to take his time with the things he does. To properly understand them before he can pass judgment and make up his mind. He is quite patient when needed and also a very organized individual. Details, even if they seem meaningless to someone else, are very important to this boy. At a young age, they will be a little tedious to understand and remember completely. But as he grows and begins to learn how to filter and file information away, he will become quite an intelligent stallion. All of which will aide him in determining what is black and white in the world. Or what will reside in the grey areas. To him, everything has a sort of checks and balances set up. If you do this bad thing, you will be punished to this degree. Do something very good, and you shall be rewarded for that amount of 'good' you did.
Like his sister, E----, he understand that there are laws that must be followed, just as their grandfather has explained. However he also feels that one must enjoy life and make their decisions as they will. He will not force someone to choose their fate. Only judge the weight of their consequences for that choice and the truthfulness behind them.
As with all families, he finds himself at a crossroads with his very nature. He loves his family and will be there to protect his sisters as needed. But E--- and I--- have their own choices to be weighed. He knows the truth in I---'s words and understand the laws that E---- is justified to follow.
Do you Like to RP?: Yessss! *u*
Proof of 2014 Roleplay: [X] [X] [X] (wasn't sure how many you wanted ^^;; )
Plots: During foalhood: - RP's with father and grandfather, learning about what duties he may inherit one day! - Any and all sibling/family RP! - Witnessing someone getting into trouble and determining they are a 'Bad Soul' - Whatever sort of mischief little foals get into ;D
Young Adult/Adulthood: - Anything involving family, especially his sisters - An RP with grandfather about the consequences of 'looking the other way' and knowing it's wrong - A ridiculously sweet soq and a horribly evil soq
Prompt Response: Prompt 2
From Dusk until Dawn I come to rate, In the Underworld's night, a deadman's fate. I am the Sun, Justice, the Law, Tasked with determining the Truth to be saw. The fate of two, Must now be given the judgement due. One is suffering for a mistake, While the other dwindles over hate. A brother is sworn protect his sister, But now my two have created disaster. A side must I take, Or wallow in their wake. My Heart splits in two, And I know what I must do. I watch as my sisters battle their truths, But to step in will tear apart their roots. My judgement shall be known, That neither one will be thrown, From this underworld we call home.
Anything else? This family is so interesting and I just adore all the time that has been devoted to it! Thank you for the chance to try at such an awesome family! <33
