Blood discolored the ornate plate of armor protecting the black stallion’s broad chest, and there was no small amount on his chin either. He walked slowly with half lidded eyes towards the stream reflecting on the surprisingly long duel he had entered into with an overly confident Kalona. He never imagined it would have been that difficult or that he would have felt this tired afterward, but he had learned a valuable lesson because of it; never underestimate the enemy or overestimate your own abilities. He had come away from it relatively unharmed but his muscles were still sore in response to the exertion and he craved the cool waters of the stream in the same manner as one craves life or love. Nothing would make him happier than the sensation of that sweet water soothing his innards and the notion of being rid of the noxious scent of blood that clung to him. Upon reaching the bank of the stream he did not stop but instead waded right in until it was up to his knees. He took a moment to enjoy the chill upon his burning ligaments but soon plunged his nose into the water, swishing it this way and that until he felt confident the blood was gone. Next he gently lowered himself into the water in order to cleanse his armor, a sigh of contentment leaving his lungs as he took this opportunity to rest. The cool water felt wonderful on his body and the sun overhead kept him from getting too cold. It was a pleasant day to be the victor of a duel.

Naerdiel had been drinking from the stream to quench her thirst after a long run with Arina. She had her mind focused on herself and what the future might hold for her, she ignored Arina trying to warn her that something changed with the water. Arina had been sitting beside Nae watching her drink from the stream but starting making noise. All the noises she was making it was all to try to get her attention when red started flowing down the stream towards them. Arina really started to panic when Nae started to drink some of the red stuff and Naerdiel’s face contorted and she looked down at the water and gasped. “We should go see Arina.” She knew deep down that if there was blood in the stream, it couldn’t be good. Someone was hurt somewhere along the stream and for some reason she was compelled to find them and try to help them.

His ears came forward attentively at the sound of someone approaching and he brought himself slowly to his feet. It would be rather unfortunate if something else desired to pick a fight with him when he was this tired, but a knight only backed down from a duel out of cowardice. He assumed a normal posture but spread his wings in case the situation called for him to take quickly to the air. Unlike his great grandfather Gareth didn’t assume every encounter would lead to a fight, he kept the thought tucked away in the back of his mind but only acted on it if need be. He waited patiently until a glimmer of pink caught his eye and he found himself eye to eye with an unusual mare.
“M’lady.” He regarded her with a polite bow of his head before observing her further, noting the strange markings on her side before realizing he was acting inappropriately. “I apologize if I startled you.” He added. She seemed to have been looking for something and he thought for a moment that she may have heard him splashing around and could have become alarmed.

The first thing that she noticed was his rather long and feathery black wings. They seemed so soft to her, she wanted to go up and see if they were truly as soft as they appeared to be in her eyes. As her eyes continued to scan his wings, she noticed the tips were patterned in white and it made them seem even more alluring. The thing that seemed to break the trance she was under was his voice when he spoke to her. "Hello there." The words that left her mouth in exchange for his formal greeting seemed so rude or plain that she felt like she should have been taught better growing up. "You didn't startle me so much as worried me, I noticed the blood in the water as I was drinking from it.." She allowed her eyes to scan over him to try and see if there were any large wounds on his body where the blood could have came from. She didn't see any but she did notice the pieces of armor that he wore on his body and she was all the more intrigued with the stallion. "I apologize for my nonformal greeting, I feel it pales in comparison to you and yours. You make me wish that I could have learned better things." She offered a small smile to him because it was nothing but simple honesty. It might have been out of random considering what it was they were talking about before, but she couldn't get the apology out of her head.

He attempted not to visibly shift under her observant gaze as she studied his appearance. It was not offensive to him but he never really did all that well beneath the scrutiny of others, his fangs often caused them an uncomfortable moment of pause that put him ill at ease. He was relieved to notice she was more interested in his wings and allowed himself to relax as he felt some of the pressure lift. Her voice reaching him allowed him to focus on something else as she mentioned blood in the water and he took notice over her gaze as it swept over him in an attempt to locate the source. “I must apologize again in that case; I should have made sure there was no one downstream before washing it away. I appreciate your concern but I am uninjured, it was the blood of another I was sending down the stream.” The words seemed even more clumsy and grotesque than he imagined, if he hadn’t made her uncomfortable yet he likely had now. He didn’t know whether she would try to politely extract herself from the encounter or not but he made his way slowly out of the water and planted himself upon the bank a length away from her. He did not wish to frighten her or encroach on her space but he felt odd speaking to someone when he was doing something as private as cleansing himself. He met her smile with a gentle grin and shook his head slowly. “No, my greetings are strange as I was raised by a strange family. I assure you, you are quite educated in greetings.”

Her small smile change to a gentle one as he apologized about the water. "You misunderstand, I didn't come to seek an apology, it is not needed here. I was concerned about where it was the blood was coming from since there was a good bit of it. But I'm relieved to see your uninjured." When he moved out of the water and upon the bank on the other side she moved closer to the edge of the bank she was standing on, it made her curious about him as to why he would move far away. "I don't think that your all that strange, but thank you." Her smile grew wider as she wanted to laugh but stopped herself and chose to introduce herself instead. "I'm Naerdiel and there should be a fox familiar arriving soon enough named Arina." She moved her head back towards the way she came from, the little fox wasn't as fast as she was so the little fox sometimes fell a little behind. Normally Nae would wait and stay with the fox but it was urgent to make sure someone wasn't harmed and possibly dying.

“Excuse me.” He interjected softly as he stiffly shook the water from his mane, pelt and tail. He felt oddly embarrassed for doing so but kept it to himself by maintaining an easy expression as he listened to her speak. Giving a small nod at her courteous wave of his apology he sidestepped so he was no longer situated in the puddle he had created. “Thank you once more for thinking of my wellbeing m’lady.” He replied with a soft grin. He retained the distance between them out of respect for personal space but he was also expecting something to set her off, something to make her wish to extricate herself from the situation. He was used to mares fawning over him but more often than not they grew uncomfortable for one reason or another and ended up parting rather swiftly. “It is a pleasure to meet you Naerdiel.” Turning his attention upon where she motioned he watched as the small fox came trotting up and dipped his head in greeting. He had heard of familiars before but he had yet to come across one.

"It is a pleasure to meet you as well." She had no idea as to what his name was so she couldn't formally state him. Arina slowed down and came to rest beside Naerdiel. She was finally content and more relaxed now that she knew no harm had fallen upon her and she was safe and sound. The fox curled around her feet and watched the stallion. Naerdiel had only smiled at Arina once since she arrived upon the scene, her focus was once again on the stallion though.
"Do you mind telling me about your epic battle that left you victorious?" She was curious to learn more about this strange and curious stallion. In her mind and all the thoughts that were swirling around in it, it seemed like the right thing to ask about his battle. She might be able to pick up on some hidden clues in his words about the battle or he might even talk about something else afterwards. It sometimes happened that someone would go on to a different topic so smoothly.

Though he knew it was impolite to withhold a name once one had been present to you, he couldn’t help but feel as though it would be fruitless for him to introduce himself. In all likelihood she would hear or see something that displeased her, and go about her business. Even so, he found himself rather shocked when she asked about the duel he had been in only a few hours before. Would blood and gore truly interest this unusual mare before him? Though she had all the mannerisms of a delicate lady, there was something that he had yet to see buried beneath her soft exterior. He still felt a bit wary as he began to speak, but he would gladly fulfill her request.
“A Kalona stumbled upon me and felt as though he had the advantage.” A grin painted his features as he relived the scene. “One of those purists who believed himself to be above it all. Perhaps he wasn’t expecting to bump into someone with training, or he simply overestimated himself but I am certain he will not make the same mistake twice.” He shook out his golden mane proudly as he relived his glory. “They always want to go for the throat which makes them predictable.” He balked after a moment, realizing he may be going a bit too far. “I am sure something as gory as a duel is not a suitable conversation for a lady though, I apologize for going too far.”
