NAME Jacob Grimm AGE 27 OCCUPATION current Patriarch of the Grimm criminal enterprises; officially the owner of several top-of-the-line shipping vessels FAMILY Jacob Grimm is the eldest of a large brood of children belonging to an extensive crime family, whose largest operations are in smuggling. It's said that a branch of their family owns land on the coast and has links to actual pirates.
POSITIVES Patient, loyal, never veers from own morals NEUTRALS Intelligent, plans ahead NEGATIVE Manipulative, ruthless, rigid
APPEARANCE The oldest of the Grimm brood, Jacob is older then Ghastly by over a year, and older then the Friedrichs by eight years. Like Ghastly, he shares the family look enough for casual passerby to recognize the similarity without sharing their eerie sameness. Unlike Ghastly, the one whom he most resembles is actually the youngest -- Georgios. Rather then the mud-splattered browns of the Freds or Ghastly's sun-bleached locks, his hair is the same golden brown, neatly kept. He generally wears it long, tied at the nape of his neck, with no strand daring to fall out of place. Jacob seems to possess all of the elegance the rest of his family lacks, dressing and carrying himself like a man of a much higher station. He could fit in effortlessly with the very lowest tiers of nobility, and stands out in rougher circumstances. Everything about him makes him appear a finished version of the rougher copies of his siblings; his sculpted features are smoother then theirs, he appears strong without looking muscular, and he is in excellent shape. Great care is taken with his clothing, which is generally much finer then anything the Freds wear, though not as fine as the clothing which Georgios wears.
PERSONALITY Jacob takes his duties as the eldest son very seriously: nearly everything he does revolves around the well-being of his family, to whom he is intensely loyal. He possesses a strict code of moral conduct which he has tried to instill in his siblings with only mediocre success, something which is probably for the best in most cases, as Jacob's morals are not always in line with those which the rest of society has agreed upon. For the preservation and progress of his family, there is a great deal he is willing to do or to sacrifice, and expects the same from his brothers -- that they will choose suitable professions, that they will give their all to those occupations, that they will marry someone profitable to the family, and that they will be faithful once they have done so. Even he is not exempt from these expectations, spending almost all of his time working, and the only thing he is known to do purely for the pleasure of it is spoil Georgios.
While it is notable that Jacob -- like the rest of the Grimms -- has very progressive views where women are concerned, it is best to remember that this means only that he treats men and women equally. As pleasant as that may sound, it means that he generally treats them equally poorly, as for Jacob there are only two categories of people: Grimms and non-Grimms.
This can make him unpleasant to deal with, and he is in general very cold in speech and behavior. Almost everything he does is planned ahead of time for the affect it will have on others and he is especially good at manipulating his siblings, whether or not they are aware of his direction.
SKILLS Raised to take over his family's business, Jacob is an extremely savvy, well-organized trader. He is able to keep up with all the many arms of their small empire, keeping everything running smoothly, and is familiar with the prices of most salable products both at home and abroad. Having access to a great deal of unsavory information, he is able to predict markets with startling ease, which talent he uses to continually grow the family fortunes. Unlike his siblings, Jacob received a full education, and can read and write in an (of course) elegant hand in multiple languages. It is very likely that he can fight -- one almost imagines him with a rapier, dancing -- but he prefers to leave the violence to his siblings, who are in any case a great deal more enthusiastic about it.
HISTORY Jacob Grimm is the eldest of the eight children of the Grimm family, and the current leader of the brood, generally obeyed in varying degrees by his siblings. All indications are that Jacob was very active in the raising of his siblings, particularly the younger ones, and it is partly his efforts that instilled their intense family loyalty as well as their calculated cunning where the rest of the world is concerned.
Jacob generally lives in the port city where their family has always lived, in the modest manor the brothers inherited from their parents. Caring little for his father, a man bullied and largely controlled by his wife, Jacob Grimm grew up in a golden haze of adoration for the imposing woman that was his mother. All evidence points to his mother being the inspiration for the opinions of the Grimms towards women: there is little doubt that during her lifetime it was she that operated the criminal enterprise which Jacob now directs.
Having devoted most of his life to either learning or the family business, Jacob has never been known to have more then the most temporary of lovers, has never sired a child, and has never courted.
