It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?

Civilian Life

User Image
Name: Minerva Imani Pierce

Nickname: Tons! Mimi is the most common, though Mim is also used. Wise Gal is sometimes used as a compliment by people who are familiar with the mythology behind her name, while Nerves can be a taunt for when she's feeling anxious. Her grandma will sometimes call her Hawkeye, a reference to the M*A*S*H character as well as her eye for detail.

Age: 11 12 13

Birthday: March 16th

Sign: Pisces

Gemstone: Blue Lace Agate

Blood Type: B+

Fav. Food: Fruit smoothies. Minerva likes making up her own new combinations, and has a box full of index cards that she uses to record the recipes that turn out well. She's also a fan of couscous and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Hated Food: Coleslaw. Vegetables are fine, but not when they're stringy and slimy!

School: Homeschooled

Hobbies:

Dream Lover: Minerva loves dreams. She keeps a journal by her bed, and every morning when she wakes up, she writes down as much of her dream as she can remember. This book is locked, with a key that she wears around her neck, and she never shows it to anyone. She does, however, have a separate notebook for daydreams. Minerva occasionally shows parts of this daytime dream book to her family and close friends, and she has started to think about writing continuations of dreams that she particularly enjoys, but hasn't dared to actually do so just yet.

It's Only Make Believe: If it's a story involving princesses, dragons, or magic, Minerva will read it. She loves fairy tales and just about anything involving magic, from simple misdirection magic tricks to Harry Potter. All of her leisure reading is fantastical in nature. But Minerva doesn't stop there- she loves acting out her own continuations to her favorite stories, or making up entirely new adventures. This is usually done in the company of her stuffed animals, but if she's comfortable around someone, she may invite them along on one of her quests.

Blue Velvet: What girl doesn't love dressing up? Not Minerva! She has a special fondness for clothes that she considers pretty. Her grandmother teaches her about different fabrics and cuts, and she sometimes incorporates this knowledge into her fashion choices. Sometimes they even work together to design something! Minerva cares more about what she thinks looks nice than what's trendy or cool, and her tastes highly based on what emotions and feelings clothes evoke. She loves princess dresses and tutus, of course, but is also fond of her dragon sweater and lion pajamas, since they make her feel strong and ferocious.

Pretty Ballerina: Ballet is pretty and fun and good exercise! All of those are reasons that Minerva adores her ballet class. It's more strict than her lessons at home, which causes trouble sometimes, but she enjoys dancing and hanging out with the other kids so much that the little difficulties don't bother her much. She has a small barre in her room (it's actually a towel rack, but she won't let anyone call it that) that she uses to practice when she's not in class, and listens to ballet compositions when she needs to tune out the hustle and bustle around her.

Virtues:

Do You Believe In Magic?: Minerva does! For her, anything is possible. Flying broomsticks? Sure! Secret wizard schools? Why not? Costumed superheroes? Absolutely! Minerva doesn't write things off just because there's no evidence for them, or people say they're impossible. She's willing to accept anything that's presented to her, no matter how unlikely. This doesn't mean she's totally gullible- Minerva won't believe just anything, and she does do research when sources she doesn't already trust try to tell her things- but when things get weird, she's usually the first one to understand a situation, or so she thinks.

Put Your Head On My Shoulder: Are you having a hard time? Minerva feels for you. She's always been good at seeing when someone's upset, and she does her best to make them feel better. She's often able to understand why someone may be sad or angry, and is often able to do things to alleviate those negative feelings. Sometimes a situation requires a hug, or an offer of help, or a fun diversion. Minerva's a great listener, and she has one very valuable skill- knowing when a person just needs to be left alone. While she isn't by all means perfect at consoling people, she's generally a good person to be around when someone is troubled, and they will often- though not always- come away from a meeting with her feeling somewhat better.

Walk, Don't Run: Some kids are noisy and rambunctious. And then there's Minerva. She never needs to be told to keep it down, or to stop running amok. On the contrary, she prefers it when things are quiet and contented, takes care to keep things that way whenever she can. Even when the going gets tough, she does her best to stay cool, calm, and collected, whether it's mediating an argument between friends, or suggesting a tranquil rainy day activity.

Different Drum: Minerva knows that she's a little bit different from most other kids. Even though she's homeschooled, she has ample opportunities to hang out with other kids, and see that they're often into different things than she is, or do things in a different way. And to her, that's fine. She's totally comfortable with who she is, and doesn't succumb to peer pressure. Some people expect her to cave when faced with a more forceful attitude, and are surprised when she can confidently shrug them off. The way Minerva sees it, if they want to join her, great! If not, she's quite content on her own, and has other people who appreciate her for who she is.

Flaws:

Make The World Go Away: In calm, one-on-one situations, Minerva is comfortable and content. Adding more people to the mix tends to make her anxious. Not because she's shy, but instead because she's easily overwhelmed. Lots of noise or movement, especially when it's chaotic and uncoordinated, makes her feel simultaneously crushed by her surroundings, and isolated and lost. She does have some coping methods for dealing with crowded places and confusing situations, like having headphones on to tune out the noise, or focusing on someone with her, but these aren't always feasible and don't always work when they are. If Minerva's thrust into a loud or frantic situation, chances are pretty good that she'll just shut down and be unable to do anything until she can go somewhere to reset.

Try The Impossible: Despite her careful nature, Minerva is still prone to leaping before she looks. If she gets an idea, she wants to try it immediately. If someone suggest something that sounds awesome, she'll jump right into it. Minerva doesn't consider herself a risk-taker, and she does take precautions when they're obviously necessary. Her problem is that she often doesn't think things all the way through if they seem fine on the surface, and that tends to get her into trouble.

Red Rubber Ball: Minerva's moods can change at the drop of a hat. She can be up on cloud nine one moment, and in the depths of despair the next, with seemingly no cause for her sudden downturn. Sometimes her abrupt changes in mood can be attributed to certain factors, such as noise or reading something sad. Just as often, even she can't explain why she's suddenly terrified or throwing a temper tantrum. She sometimes tries to make it clear that the fact that she's suddenly bawling isn't anyone else's fault, but that doesn't change the fact that she's upset, and consequently not too fun to be around. Working with her can be difficult when she's sunny one moment and stormy the next, but it's even worse when she can't offer an explanation why.

Don't Rain On My Parade: It's true that a lot of things that Minerva believes in aren't real. There are no unicorns in Destiny City Park, and Hogwarts was invented by a single mother. On some level, she understands this, but she cannot handle people who try to dismantle her fantasy world. Attempts to debunk her favorite myths are met with resistance, which can turn hostile if they continue, to the point that she will lash out at people who might just be trying to help. While she usually tries to spare everyone's feelings whenever possible, even when she's upset, if someone calls her out on her unrealistic visions, she will get actively confrontational, and she will let the person she's angry with know exactly why. Even if it gets her into trouble later, Minerva is much happier in her daydreams, and refuses to step into "reality."

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Gold, with thick lashes. This is a girl who'll never need mascara.

Hair: Dark blue and very curly and kinky. If it was straightened, it would probably be about shoulder-length. It's usually worn loose or in poofy pigtails, but her mother wrestles it into a bun for ballet lessons.

Face: Oval-shaped, with dimples in her cheeks when she smiles full-out.

Clothes: Varying, depending on the adventure of the day. Minerva tends to live in her dress-up clothes, which can be anything from princess dresses and fairy wings to colorful castoffs from her grandmother's closet. Her playclothes are fairly plain and serviceable, but she never wears them when she can put on something fun instead!

People think dreams aren't real just because they aren't made of matter, of particles.
Dreams are real. But they are made of viewpoints, of images, of memories and puns and lost hopes.
