Side Swapping: Corruption and Purification

Loyalty is won and lost, and in the powered war of Destiny City the same holds true. When a character can no longer function in their current faction, they have the option to swap from Chaos to Order and vice versa. Nearly every faction has a chaos or order equivalent, and fourth stage characters are capable of helping them transition to their new alignment.

Not all side swaps are the same; all purifications require a fourth stage Order character (a White Moon Senshi Prince or Princess, or a Royal Knight) and most corruptions will require a fourth stage Chaos character (a Negaverse General King or Queen, or a Dark Mirror Senshi Prince or Princess). The White Moon Senshi and Knights corrupt into the Negaverse in the same way that corrupted senshi and Negaverse agents purify. Information about this can be found here. White Moon Senshi corrupt into the Dark Mirror Court, and Dark Mirror Senshi purify into the White Moon through a different method, which can be found here. Even Mauvians can purify or corrupt; information about them can be found here. Half Youmafication and Full Youmafication are unique; there are a few different ways for a Negaverse Officers to Youmafy, and White Moon characters and civilians can be corrupted into Youma as well. Information on all of that can be found here. Information on purifying Half-Youma and Youma characters can be found here. While there are some limitations to side swaps, characters can purify or corrupt multiple times; this is referred to as recorruption, repurification, or a double side swap, and information can be found here. There is also an FAQ for general information about faction swapping information that didn't fit in elsewhere.

Excluding meta-characters, and unless otherwise stated, every character is eligible to swap sides. However, this should not be a common occurrence and typically needs some sort of IC plot build up, or reasonable OOC explanation.

It will always be easier to corrupt a character than to purify them because corruption can be forced. To purify, a character must want to be rid of their Chaos; they may not always want to purify, but they absolutely must be willing and complicit in their purification. Because Chaos grips starseeds and can manipulate and consume all who are corrupted by it, it is impossible to sever this bond unless you are a willing participant.

Side swaps should not be used flippantly as a ‘restart’ button; there are always side effects for purifying. When a character swaps sides, they will lose their current civilian glamour and will appear as someone completely new. If you purify or corrupt, you leave your civilian life behind to prevent your previous faction from tracking you down and harming you. A magical glamour makes all side-swapped characters look like someone completely different, and they will have to assume a new identity and begin new lives. Some side swaps result in partial or complete memory loss.

While characters can side swap multiple times, this will need a good IC build up. We don’t want anyone to be trapped with a character they cannot play, and sometimes side swaps are the best way to get a fresh start with a character, but there are greater repercussions for multiple side swaps.

Purifying or Corrupting a Character (Negaverse, Senshi and Knights)

Regardless of if a character is going to purify or corrupt, Negaverse Agents and Corrupted Senshi, and White Moon Senshi and Knights all follow the same rules.

A fourth stage character must be involved in every Corruption and Purification of characters from these factions. If a player character is unavailable, Sailor Cosmos is available for purifications and General King Axinite, General King Lepidolite, and General Queen Hessonite are available for corruptions into the Negaverse. Rarely, in very special occasions, Queen Laurelite can also corrupt.

Purifications out of the Negaverse generally need logical build up; because a purification cannot be forced, Negaverse characters need a strong reasoning. It will always be more difficult to purify by third stage than first stage because, as a character grows in strength, so too does Metallia’s influence on them.

Corruptions into the Negaverse can be forced, so players may choose to either have a logical plot progression for their character to willingly change sides, or they may be forcibly corrupted. Only a General Sovereign can corrupt a character into the Negaverse, however they can also siphon their power into other Negaverse characters to allow them a hands on experience in the corruption. Failed corruptions can lead to Partial and Full Youmafication.

Under no circumstances can a chibi senshi be corrupted into the Negaverse. Their starseeds are too pure and have a protective coating around them that prevents corruption.

It is important to remember that side swaps always come with two things: a new glamour, and memory loss.

      Glamour

All characters that swap sides will lose their civilian identity. This means, no one will recognize them for who they were pre-side swap. They will appear to be a complete stranger to everyone. Animals, such as pets, may not recognize them at all, or they may seem to have some familiarity and friendliness towards them post side-swap. Please see the FAQ section below for more information! A new glamour will always appear similar to who they were before; they will not magically change hair, skin, or eye color in the process of obtaining a glamour. The magic behind a glamour exists to protect starseeds; in the case of Order characters, the magic comes from the cosmos itself, and in the case of Negaverse characters, Metallia’s power grants them this new disguise. There is no way to keep your identity in a side swap. A glamour will also naturally manifest ICly within two weeks of a member of an opposing faction learning of an enemy’s civilian identity. This means that if a side swap involves sharing powered identities with a member of an opposing faction, that side swap must occur within two weeks of sharing identities. Otherwise, any characters with a compromised glamour will receive a new glamour ICly anyway, regardless of a sideswap or not.

Powered characters will change appearance as well, and will gain a new powered identity. It is player choice if they would like their character to be recognizable to those who knew them before the side swap, or if they should appear like a completely new character to others.

      Memories

Every side swap, no matter how willing, will result in at least partial memory loss. Characters purifying from, or corrupting to, the Negaverse will lose either their civilian memories or their powered memories. The trauma to the starseed during any side swap causes them to lose these memories; the more traumatic the side swap, the more memories they lose.

Because purification must be willing, it is generally less traumatic, however it would be possible to lose more than just half their memories if the player wanted. Corruptions are generally more traumatic, so if the corruption is not completely willingly, a character may lose all of either their powered or civilian memories, as well as other memories they would have ordinarily retained.

While it may be possible to recover some of these memories through plots, players should expect that the character has lost an entire aspect of their previous self. There are some IC RP Items that can recover memories as well, however all of these need plot approval from the mule, first.

Regardless of which memories are retained, side-swapping characters will not be able to recall the civilian identity of powered characters they used to be allied with. A haze will form in their mind to protect previous allies after the side swap to ensure other characters are not in danger. Even if the side swap is willing, characters will be unable to recall civilian identities, and things that would otherwise endanger players or cause meta issues. For example, a character may forget civilian identities, training locations, and meta secrets from the faction.

Other characters will not forget the side swapped character; memory loss only affects the side-swapping character.

    Sending in a Side-Swap Proposal

All side swaps must be approved before they can ICly occur. The following form must be sent in for any side swaps. If this is not your character’s first side swap, please see this post for repurification or recorruption and information on all double side swaps. Side swaps involving the Dark Mirror Court, Mauvians, or Youma and Half Youma have different information, which can be found beneath this post.

        The Form:

      Quote:
      1. Which Character will be side-swapping? (Please link to their journal)

      2. What development has led up to you pursuing a side swap for this character? (This section is for what has already happened in RP to push you in this direction. Please include any IC reasoning that has inspired your character to pursue this course; if you intend to have a forced corruption, please just include that!)

      3. What plot will you be pursuing to undergo the switch? (This section is for what you want to have happen in RP and should detail how you intend for the side-swap to occur. If it is a forced corruption, please include the characters you want involved. If no PC fourth stage characters are available, the shop can offer Cosmos for purifications, and any of the General Sovereigns for Negaverse corruptions. Cosmos can hear and will respond to the call of any Chaos character whose starseed is calling out for help. Typically the General Sovereigns are not out in Destiny City but can be called by agents to perform a side swap. Before submitting a plot that utilizes any player owned characters, please have their permission to be included in this proposal!)

      4. Where do you want to see your character after the switch? What will their new goals be? (We ask that players fill out this information to make sure they have a plan post side-swap; side swapping is not supposed to be done frequently, so we need to make sure that players have a goal in mind. This can be a simple goal that benefits only them or has personal reasons, or it can be a goal meant to impact the war.)

      5. What new identity will your character be taking on? (In the case of side swaps, we want to ensure that powered names are available. Negaverse Agents that purify may need a new Knight name, and some Corrupted Senshi have taken on Mineral names and may not have previously selected a Celestial Body. Order Senshi corrupting into the Negaverse may need a new mineral name if they wish to acclimate better, and corrupting Knights will need a new mineral name. These names will be reserved for three months while the plot is being completed; if the plot takes longer than that and the player does not contact the shop to request more time before these three months are expired, the name will not be reserved further. You will need to submit powered revisions before the character can use any new powered abilities, and you may also need to submit a revision to the civilian profile depending on how much their personality changes during the side-swap.)

      6. What is the effect on their memories? (Do they remember their civilian or powered life? If the corruption is traumatic they will be expected to lose many more memories, and while all characters must lose either civilian or powered memories, the player may choose to lose more memories. It would also be possible to remember a few important memories on whatever side they are losing, provided there is a solid explanation for why those memories should remain.)

The Dark Mirror Court: Corruption and Purification

The Dark Mirror Court uses a different type of Chaos, so purification and corruption functions a little differently than similar things that involve the Negaverse. Because the Dark Mirror Chaos is bestowed upon them through the mirror, there are extra steps to take. Corruption and Purification both use the same form, which can be found at the bottom of this post.

Corrupting into the Court

For a White Moon Senshi to corrupt into the Dark Mirror Court, a Dark Mirror Royal is required. The Dark Mirror Royal can take them to the mirror in the throne room of Mirrorspace, or they can summon a special mirror, for the White Moon Senshi to pass through.

Passing through this mirror alters the state of their starseed, rather than Chaos being pushed into the starseed and overwriting everything. During a Dark Mirror Corruption, while the Senshi is in the mirror, Mirrorspace will create a replica of the Senshi's starseed out of pure Chaos. The original starseed becomes covered with a protective Mirrorcoating; this Mirrorcoating is directly linked to the synthetic, mirrored starseed, known as a MirrorSeal in Mirrorspace. The MirrorSeal will channel chaos to the original starseed through the Mirrorcoating through their newly created bond.

Only White Moon Senshi can be corrupted into the Dark Mirror Court; Negaverse Senshi are incompatible with the Corruption method. If you have a Negaverse character who wants to join the Dark Mirror Court, they would need to first purify out of the Negaverse and into the White Moon Court, and then be recorrupted into the Dark Mirror Court. While this is possible, it will count as a Double Side Swap, and information about the particularities of a multiple side swap can be found below. Knights are not eligible to corrupt into the Dark Mirror Court.

Information about Glamour and Memories are the same for purifications and corruptions, and can be found below.

It is worth noting that chibi senshi cannot be corrupted into the Court; their starseeds are too pure and have a protective coating around them that prevents corruption.

Purifying out of the Court

When a Senshi joins the Dark Mirror Court, Mirrorspace makes a replica of their starseed, known as a MirrorSeal. This occurs the instant the Senshi steps through the mirror and occurs regardless of if the senshi is awakened into the Court or is corrupted into it. This MirrorSeal is stored in a far corner of Mirrorspace, hidden away and kept safe. The MirrorSeal is made of pure Chaos energy and is linked to the Senshi's true starseed, which remains in their chest (albeit wrapped beneath a layer of Mirrorcoating—a piece of Mirrorspace that prevents the starseed from being purified by natural means).

For a Dark Mirror Senshi to purify, they will need to undertake a quest to retrieve this replica starseed and remove it from Mirrorspace. This is not an easy task; Mirrorspace is always changing, but Mirrorsapce is capable of 'creating' whatever the Dark Mirror Senshi might desire. This is what gives Dark Mirror Senshi the ability to summon whatever they might desire while in Mirrorspace. If a Dark Mirror Senshi desires the secret to purification, Mirrorspace will provide it to them, though this may be a long and tedious effort. The Dark Mirror Senshi will have to follow the ever changing path within Mirrorspace to finally reach the hidden location where their MirrorSeal is housed. A Dark Mirror Senshi will immediately know when they have found the MirrorSeal; the starseed in their chest—their true starseed—will begin pulsing, and they will feel drawn to the MirrorSeal.

The MirrorSeal emits a small, but steady stream of Chaos. It would appear similar to a starseed but has several obvious differences; most notably, it is smaller and composed of only mirrorshards. If a Dark Mirror Senshi finds their MirrorSeal and intends to take it from Mirrorspace, a Mirror Replica of themselves appears. This Replica is the same as them in every way, except it appears as a 'perfect version of themselves'—it is everything they want to be, designed and brought to life by a desperate Mirrorspace. Mirrorspace uses these illusions as a last ditch effort to confuse or manipulate wavering Dark Mirror Senshi into remaining with the Court. These Replicas are able to see into the hearts of the Dark Mirror Senshi because they have direct access to their starseed, and Mirrorspace will speak through them in an effort to convince the Dark Mirror Senshi to stay. Mirrorspace will try to give them a reason to stay with the Court and focuses on trying to convince the Dark Mirror Senshi that by staying with the Court, they too can become as 'perfect' as the replica. To obtain the MirrorSeal, the Dark Mirror Senshi must overcome the illusion; they must fight either an internal or physical battle.

An internal battle may mean they just speak with their Mirror Self—who will attempt to talk them out of leaving and attempt to convince them why they should stay with the Dark Mirror Court. They may use promises of perfection, opportunities, threats, or simply prey on the Dark Mirror Senshi's fears. If words will not sway the Dark Mirror Senshi, the Replica may then resort to violence in an effort to either scare them off or destroy them all together. Depending on the character, some may be able to vanquish the Replica by willpower and words, but some may only be able to destroy the illusion by brute force. Either way, when the Replica is defeated, cracks will splinter across their form until they shatter. They will collapse in a pile of mirrorshards, and the senshi is free to take the MirrorSeal.

The Dark Mirror Senshi will need to exit Mirrorspace as soon as possible to ensure they do not become trapped there. Because Mirrorspace made this MirrorSeal, it is pure chaos and the only way to purify it is to seek out any Order Royal. If the MirrorSeal is physically destroyed, the True Starseed would mimic this destruction; the two are linked by a magical bond so any damage the MirrorSeal takes would immediately be inflicted on the true starseed.

Once the Chaos is purged, the protective barrier around the true starseed (the Mirrorcoating) will fade; the starseed will have no connection to Mirrorspace's chaotic influence and the Mirrorcoating will wither and turn to dust. This is very painful and feels like a hand in your chest, squeezing uncomfortably. During this time, other Dark Mirror Senshi may feel a pang upon their own starseed if powered; Mirrorspace is suffering, and they will know it. They may not know what is going on, but they will know that something is wrong, even if only for a brief second.

When the coating is finally gone, the light will return to the Dark Mirror Senshi's Starseed. Free of chaos, they will return to the White Moon Senshi they were originally intended to be.

The MirrorSeal will retain its shape, but it no longer emits any magical energy. It is simply a mirrored husk—a reminder of when Mirrorspace had claim to the starseed. This husk may be destroyed or kept.

This purification can ONLY be done voluntarily; if a Dark Mirror Senshi changes their mind at the last minute, the MirrorSeal will reject the Order energy. This is because the force of Chaos is empowered by one's devotion to it, and as such its bond is impossible to sever if you want to stay a part of your faction or otherwise stay corrupted. Your character does not need to love or even agree with the opposite side, but their own feelings and opinions should play some part in leaving their current faction if they are purifying.

Side Swap Effects on Memories (Purification and Corruption)

When a White Moon Senshi is corrupted into the Dark Mirror Court, or when a Dark Mirror Senshi purifies, they do not lose any memories. The Corruption is significantly less traumatic because their starseeds are not directly corrupted; they simply have a layer of Chaos, the Mirrorcoating, covering their pure starseed. The Chaos is siphoned to the Mirrorcoating, rather than directly into the starseed. Because of this, they can retain both powered and civilian memories when corrupted or purified.

The only memories that will be affected are those that involve the civilian identity of powered characters they used to be allied with.

Side Swap Effects on Glamour (Purification and Corruption)

As they swap sides, they will lose their civilian identity. This means, no one will recognize them for who they were pre-side swap. They will appear to be a complete stranger to everyone. Animals, such as pets, may not recognize them at all, or they may seem to have some familiarity and friendliness towards them post side-swap. Please see the FAQ section below for more information! A new glamour will always appear similar to who they were before; they will not magically change hair or skin color in the process of obtaining a glamour, but Dark Mirror Senshi are unique in that their eye color will always change when they are corrupted into the Court. This only affects White Moon Senshi who have corrupted and does not affect characters who awakened into the Court. A character who awakened into the Court will not change eye colors if they purify out of it. The magic behind a glamour exists to protect starseeds after a side swap and ensure they will still be protected while powered down.

Sending in a Side-Swap Proposal

All side swaps must be approved before they can ICly occur. The following form must be sent in to The Space Cauldron for Corruption into, or Purification out of, the Dark Mirror Court. If this is not your character’s first side swap, please see this post for repurification or recorruption and information on all double side swaps. This form is unique to the Dark Mirror Court; if your character is side swapping from another faction, please see the appropriate information and form.

      The Form:

    Quote:

If it is a forced corruption, please include the characters you want involved; because Dark Mirror Senshi do not forget memories, they will know if they were forcibly brought into the faction and this may need further expansion on intent, below. If your character is purifying out, please have a solid proposal for what they will face in Mirrorspace when recovering their replica starseed, the Mirrorseal; please also include what replica they will face and how the confrontation will occur. The Dark Mirror Court does not have NPCs to use for Corruption, so you will need to utilize any PC Dark Mirror Royal’s player for a Corruption at this point in time. If no Order PC fourth stage characters are available, the shop can offer Cosmos for purifications. Cosmos can hear and will respond to the call of any Chaos character whose starseed is calling out for help.

This can be a simple goal that benefits only them or has personal reasons, or it can be a goal meant to impact the war. If your character is forcibly corrupted, you will need to have a plan that makes sense for how they can integrate into the Court and begin their new life.)

    5. What new identity will your character be taking on? (Dark Mirror Senshi keep the name of their celestial body but will need a new civilian identity.)

Corrupting or Purifying a Mauvian

All Mauvians, or Guardian Cats, begin as Order characters; it is impossible to be born as a Chaos Mauvian, even if a Mauvian kitten is born to two Chaos Mauvians on Earth. Until a Mauvian has awakened, they seem like normal Earth cats and cannot be corrupted. Once the Mauvian has awakened and achieved sentience, they can be corrupted.

If you have quested for a Chaos Mauvian as a new character and are just bringing them into play, you do not need to fill out this form; all corrupted Mauvians are ICly corrupted within their first two weeks of awakening and do not require any approval. It must simply be known that a General King or Queen of the Negaverse corrupted them shortly after they awakened. Mauvians can only corrupt into the Negaverse, and can only purify into the White Moon Court.

Once a Mauvian has been awakened and put into play, they will be eligible for a side swap. An Order Mauvian should typically be repulsed by the idea of corrupting, but even they might change their mind. Order Mauvians can also be forcibly corrupted into the Negaverse. A Chaos Mauvian can choose to purify, however this must be their choice and must be done willingly. Because Mauvians do not gain more power through the Chaos and simply unlock alternate forms for themselves, it is as difficult for a Mauvian who has unlocked their humanoid form, and even their Senshi form, as it would be for one who has not.

When an Order Mauvian corrupts, they immediately lose access to the Order Mauvian Headquarters and they cannot use any Order Mauvian technology. Similarly, when a Chaos Mauvian purifies, they cannot return to the Rift or access Chaos Mauvian headquarters or technology.

      Glamour

Mauvians do not have a true civilian form, so when they swap sides they typically still appear the same as they were before with one major exception; the star on their forehead will change in color to reflect the faction they serve in. All Order Mauvians must have light stars (or Court symbols) on their forehead, and all Chaos Mauvians must have dark stars on their forehead. Their humanoid outfit and Mauvian accessories may change, but this is up to the player.

Mauvians have a synthetic glamour that allows them to pass as civilians for a few hours a day depending on what abilities they have unlocked. When they swap sides, they may or may not get a new ‘civilian’ identity. Because this glamour is a programmed glamour they create for themselves using technology, they can decide whether or not to change the glamour or not after they side swap.

Mauvians are typically still identifiable after they swap sides, and keep the same name. However, under the right circumstances, a player may include a reason for why they want them to appear different and can share the intent and purpose when they submit a form for side swap approval.

      Memories

Mauvians do not have a civilian side and a powered side; they are technically always powered, however can take on a temporary disguise which hides their energy signature and magical abilities, and allows them to pass for humans. Because of this, their memories are affected differently than humans who are side swapping. The more traumatic a side swap is, the more memories the Mauvian will lose; Chaos is typically more traumatic so it should be expected that they lose some memories in this process. Because purification must be willing, it is generally less traumatic, but it would still be possible for a purifying Mauvian to forget memories, too.

Memory loss for Mauvian side-swaps may be temporary or permanent, depending on player choice.

Mauvians do not need to lose many memories at all, however all side-swapping Mauvians will not be able to recall the civilian identity of powered characters they used to be allied with. Mauvians especially will lose all memories related to important locations; they would not be able to recall where Order Mauvian Headquarters are if they corrupted, or know that Romano’s is Negaverse owned and has a portal to Chaos Mauvian headquarters, if they purified.

Other characters will not forget the side swapped character; memory loss only affects the side-swapping character.

      Physical Changes

For at least one month after their side swap, Mauvians will experience fatigue and may have difficulties using their laser; it may either not work, backfire, or will work successfully but cause them to pass out immediately afterwards. They will also be extremely limited in how many senshi they can promote or awaken until their abilities stabilize (this means that they should probably not be awakening/promoting more than once every month or so, unless approved). They will not have access to their humanoid or Mauvian Senshi stage until the month passes (though, if they haven’t unlocked the stages their roleplays will still count towards earning it).

If the Mauvian was previously bonded with a Senshi, that bond will break. This is typically a painful experience and both parties can feel the bond breaking. If only one the Mauvian or the Bonded Senshi corrupts, they may each still feel an emptiness, or a tugging sensation, but they must both be on the same side to have any Bonded perks. If the Senshi or Mauvian bonds to someone else, the tugging sensation will disappear. A Mauvian cannot be bonded to a Senshi on the other side, and the only way to keep the bond during a side swap is if both characters swap together.

After each side swap, a Mauvian cannot swap for at least a year, and multiple swaps may result in more severe side effects (or longer recovery time).

      Sending in a Side-Swap Proposal

All side swaps must be approved before they can ICly occur. The following form must be sent in to The Space Cauldron if your Mauvian is corrupting into, or purifying out of, the Negaverse. Mauvians are different from most standard factions and have specific rules, so this form only applies to them. If your Mauvian is repurifying or recorrupting in a double side swap, please see this post below!

          The Form:

        Quote:

Cosmos can hear and will respond to the call of a Mauvian whose starseed is calling out for help.

Youmafication

Youmafication is a more severe type of corruption and occurs in two forms—half-youmafication and full youmafication. In both instances, a powered character comes into contact with too much Chaos energy and is 'improperly' corrupted. Oftentimes, youma or half youmafication comes in the form of eating too many starseeds, trying to harness too much Chaos energy, coming into contact with unruly youma, or being incorrectly corrupted, but each youmafication is different! Half-Youma and Youma characters are members of the Negaverse.

Half-Youmafication

Half-Youmafication is the general term for any character who is partially youmafied, but still maintains all sentience. They will always appear humanoid and may simply look as though they have adopted some animalistic or monstrous qualities. Half youma appear to be humans with monstrous youma parts; all youma parts must be biological in some way. They can appear animalistic, plant-like, or even utilize some crystals.

Half Youma may appear somewhat monstrous, but they are still people and require human needs to be fulfilled; they must eat food, sleep, and breathe air, although individual Half-Youma may have biological modifications that alter some of these needs. They do not need to drain energy to sustain themselves, and they should be especially careful not to consume too many starseeds, as it is easy for a Half-Youma to consume too much Chaos and accidentally completely youmafy.

Half Youma starseeds are still relatively intact and they still have three stages. Only Negaverse Agents can partially youmafy. These agents are generally still regarded as human, however other members of the Negaverse may have an aversion to them. These characters do not have an altered energy signature and feel like other same-ranked agents in the Negaverse. They will grow like regular Negaverse agents and would be guaranteed at least three stages of art provided IC requirements are met. These characters are powered up constantly after half-youmaficiation, but they have the ability to use a temporary glamour (always as the civilian they were before half-youmafying; they do not get to decide how they look or magically change their appearance).

Half youmafication occurs when an agent of the Negaverse combines with a youma or undergoes some change that leads to a partial loss of their humanity. The most common ways for this to happen are through eating more starseeds then they should or through combining somehow with a youma. In rare instances, they can be created from an upgrade gone wrong. Half youma officers are, for the most part, a human that has some youma/monster parts to them.

As a half youma, these officers lose their weapons; their bodies have either adapted and have become a weapon, or they gain a magical skill they can use in battle.

    Abilities

Negaverse Agents that partially youmafy keep nearly all standard Negaverse abilities for their rank; they get the same physical boost, can drain energy, can pull starseeds, can use a Negaverse issued tablet, can teleport (if Captain or higher), can bond with a youma (if Captain or higher), and can awaken civilians into the Negaverse (if General or higher). Half youma characters lose the ability to power down, but they gain the ability to don their previous civilian glamour for a few hours a day. Half youma characters do not have weapons; they instead gain two new abilities. These abilities can be either physical or magical. Because each Half-Youma is unique, these abilities are approved on a case by case basis.

        Physical Abilities

Physical Abilities are usually a set of physiological differences that allow a half-youma to function differently than a normal human could be expected to. There are usually a few different physical changes that are meant to assist a youma in battle. Typically physical abilities mean the half-youma gains a few boosted physical traits based off of their physical changes. A half-youma based off of a snake may have retractable fangs and claws, a poison bite, enhanced smell or hyper awareness of nearby movement, and scaly skin that offers a bit of defense. The more impactful your physical abilities are, the less physical abilities a half-youma should have.

        Magical Abilities

Magical Abilities must be an effect that is temporarily cast and creates a specific result. These abilities should be written with the same parameters as any other magical attack (so must include duration, number of uses, cooldown information, and effect). This is a magical ability that either causes damage or can provide a boost for others; it should be written to be about the same power as a second stage senshi attack. These attacks are best compared to Pokemon attacks.

    Glamour and Memories

Half-Youmafication is different from other side swaps because the character does not need a new identity or to protect the identity of others. Because they were always in the Negaverse, they do not lose their glamour or any memories. As half-youma, they undergo a change that forces them to be powered up almost constantly, unless they summon their civilian glamour. They can only utilize civilian glamour for a few hours a day before they must return to Negaspace and recover.

While some players may choose to have their civilian glamour compromised and require them to get a new civilian glamour, this is not standard in a partial youmafication. Similarly, characters do not typically lose memories. A player may choose to have their character temporarily or permanently lose some memories during the process of Half-Youmafication, but this is player choice and not required.

    Art

Each faction is only guaranteed a set number of templated pieces of art. Half-Youma characters are still guaranteed one piece of art per stage, so if they partially youmafy during a growth they can get art of their new half youmafication included on their growth art. All Half-Youma art must be approved by the GM staff, so players need to make sure that a WIP is sent in for approval while any stage is being worked on.

Full Youmafication

Full Youmafication occurs when a character’s starseed is severely damaged and held together by Metallia’s Chaos. When a character is youmafied, they lose most traces of their civilian self. They become more animalistic and have extreme emotional changes. While they may still possess traces of their civilian self, they become a new creature entirely. They may remember some things about their life prior to becoming a youma, however much of this will feel like trying to remember a dream you've nearly forgotten. Youma are treated as lesser beings within the Negaverse; characters that fully youmafy are typically more powerful than the disposable and npc youma played in the shop, but because they are not really human, the Negaverse does not regard them with the same level of respect as they would another Agent, regardless of who they were before they youmafied.

Full Youma lose any authority they had and must obey commands from other Negaverse Agents, however powerful youma may choose to disregard commands from Lieutenants and Captains. They will feel an urge to obey, and it would be very difficult to disregard a command from a General, and nearly impossible to disregard commands from their Bonded officer or a General Sovereign. A Youma can never disobey Queen Laurelite or Metallia.

They may assume a civilian glamour that reflects their previous civilian identity, but it consumes vast amounts of energy. Because Full Youma are more monstrous creatures than the human they used to be, they may have a difficult time blending in with normal civilians.

A full youma may be destroyed but, like other youma, after dusting they may regenerate in the Rift. Most of the time, a full youma will need to stay in the Rift, however they may leave for several hours at a time. Their energy steadily depletes while not in the Rift or Negaspace, but while outside of these realms they will need to consume energy or starseeds, or return to the Rift to recuperate. While some youma may choose to eat food or sleep, these things are not required; they can only recuperate in the Rift or through consuming starseeds and energy.

A character cannot grow once youmafying and will be locked into that 'rank' permanently. Civilians, White Moon Senshi (excluding Chibis), Knights, Corrupted Senshi, and Negaverse Agents can be transformed into a Full-Youma. Civilians will almost always become feral youma (weaker, less intelligent youma), and Powered characters will almost always become Humanoid youma (typically stronger and more intelligent than standard youma). A Powered character that fully youmafies loses all traces of their previous magic, weapon, and general faction abilities.

    Abilities

All Full Youma have a few general abilities shared across the board for all Youma. Youma can only be killed by an Order Royal, and will otherwise be constantly reborn in the Rift. They will restore themselves and rejuvenate after a few days. They may don a temporary civilian glamour for a few hours day, though this takes a lot of energy. They can drain energy and gather starseeds. They cannot teleport or bond to another youma. All full Youma begin with two unique abilities; these abilities can be either physical or magical. Because each Youma is unique, these abilities are approved on a case by case basis.

A youma’s power is proportionate to their rank when youmafied; civilians will always make a weaker youma than a powered character would. Though youma do not have ranks, abilities can be revised as the character is played to become more precise or powerful, provided the player has been active with the character and can ICly explain why they deserve more power.

        Physical Abilities

Physical Abilities are usually a set of physiological differences that allow a youma to function differently than a normal human could be expected to. There are usually a few different physical changes that are meant to assist a youma in battle. Typically physical abilities mean the youma gains a few boosted physical traits based off of their physical changes. A youma based off of a snake may have retractable fangs and claws, a poison bite, enhanced smell or hyper awareness of nearby movement, and scaly skin that offers a bit of defense. The more impactful your physical abilities are, the less physical abilities a youma should have.

Youmafication is an incredibly traumatic experience for any character as it involves the near destruction of their starseed. It is especially painful and difficult for characters who are corrupting as well as youmafying. As full youma, they undergo a change that forces them to be powered up almost constantly, unless they summon their civilian glamour. While all Full-Youma characters may use their old civilian glamour, they may also acquire a new civilian glamour if their old identity is compromised. They can only access their civilian form for a few hours a day and should only rarely try to access it at all. It is impossible to try and live a normal human life after youmafying. They may be able to stay out in a civilian form for longer if they consume enough starseeds or energy, but this would be considered very wasteful without a good cause. They can recover in Negaspace and the Rift.

Characters youmafying will always have extensive memory loss due to the trauma of their starseed. Over time, the youma may remember bits and pieces of their previous life, but they will never be able to remember information that would reveal the civilian identity of Powered Order characters, or any Order meta secrets or locations.

    Art

Each faction is only guaranteed a set number of templated pieces of art. Youma are only guaranteed one stage of art, whereas all common, full-youmafiable characters are typically guaranteed three pieces of art. When a character corrupts into a youma, they lose all future stages of art. If you have a Lieutenant who hits second stage and is Fully Youmafied, instead of their standard second stage art, they can get art of their new youma form. They forfeit their third stage of art by swapping to a Youma; they cannot use this art slot for anything else. If the Lieutenant corrupts before reaching growth requirements, they do not get any youma art at all, as a requirement to getting a new piece of art is hitting growth requirements. If growth requirements are not met, the player can instead purchase alt art. If a third stage character fully youmafies, they must purchase alt art to get art of the youma as well. All Youma art must be approved by the GM staff, so players need to make sure that a WIP is sent in for approval while the art is being worked on.

Sending in a Half-Youma or Full-Youma Proposal

All Half-Youma or Full-Youma must be approved before they can ICly occur. The following form must be sent in to The Space Cauldron if your character is being youmafied. Half-Youma and Youma are different from most standard factions and have specific rules, so this form only applies to them.

      The Form:

    Quote:
    1. Which Character will be Youmafying? (Please link to their journal, and indicate if this is for a Half-Youmafication or a Full Youmafication)

    2. What development has led up to you pursuing a youmafication for this character? (This section is for what has already happened in RP to push you in this direction. Please include any IC reasoning that has inspired you to pursue this course. If this is meant to be accidental, please also indicate this)

    3. What plot will you be pursuing to undergo the youmafication? (This section is for what you want to have happen in RP and should detail how you intend for the youmafication to occur. Half-Youmafication can only be pursued by Negaverse Agents, and is most commonly done when they accidentally merge with a youma or eat too many starseeds. Full-Youmafication can affect civilians and any powered character, excluding chibis, the Dark Mirror Court, and Mauvians. If it is a forced youmafication, please include the characters you want involved. Civilians can be forcibly youmafied rarely by Captains, and easily by Generals; Order characters can be forcibly youmafied by a General Sovereign, but this typically only happens when something is going wrong, as the General Sovereign would rather corrupt than youmafy. Most Negaverse Agents and Corrupted Senshi youmafy when they eat too many starseeds.

    4. Where do you want to see your character after the youmafication? What will their new goals be and how will they adapt? (We ask that players fill out this information to make sure they have a plan post youmafication; half-youmafication and full youmafication is not supposed to be done frequently, so we need to make sure that players have a goal in mind and are prepared to play this type of character. Half-Youma will retain autonomy and can still progress in rank and function like humans, however full Youma will become more subservient to higher ranked members of the Negaverse, will undergo an extreme personality change, and may lose touch with their human selves. Neither will be able to have a functioning civilian life.)

    5. What physical appearance changes would you like for your character post youmafication? (Half-Youma characters should remain clearly human and just have some monstrous physical changes. They are still human at their core. Full Youma characters can be either Feral or Humanoid. Feral youma are typically weaker and are made from civilians; Humanoid youma are more powerful and are made from powered characters. Full Youma should not be easily mistaken for a human. All Half-Youma and Youma art must be approved in the WIP stage after this, so if you haven’t made up your mind on everything, please let us know; we are happy to work with you to get a reasonable level of youmafication displayed on the art.)

    6. What abilities would you like for your character to acquire post youmafication? (Half-Youma and Youma can have either physical abilities or magical abilities; information about these are above. All Half-Youma and Youma can have two abilities; they may both be either physical or magical, or a mix.)

Purifying Youmafication

Half-Youma and Youma can only be purified through the dual efforts of a Fourth Stage Order character (A Senshi Prince or Princess, or a Royal Knight) and a Brigade or Court. Brigade Banners and Court Wands allow their respective Brigade or Court to combine their powers and channel it into a Youma or Half-Youma to cleanse the starseed. A Court or Brigade must recruit a Fourth Stage Order character to assist in this as they cannot purify on their own. A Royal cannot purify a Half-Youma or Youma without a Court or Brigade, so this is a mutual performance. The purification itself must be willing; though Full Youma cannot always communicate that they have interest in purifying, as long as they have a desire to be free of Chaos, or return to themselves, the purification will be successful.

Youma or Half-Youma purification will revert the character to what they would be if they were never infected with Chaos; civilians turned into youma will return to civilians, and Corrupted Agents or Senshi will revert to their White Moon Self. There is no way to remove youmafication without completely removing all Chaos, so there is no way to reverse the youmafication process without also side swapping.

If you have a straight-to-youma character purifying, there are a few additional things you need to keep in mind before purifying. Straight to youma characters will be handled on a case by case basis and before anyone establishes any history for their youma, they should reach out to staff. To correspond with Sailor Moon canon, civilian characters can be youmafied at some point in the mid 1980s. Powered characters that were youmafied must have been done so at some point in time after 2011. All straight-to-youma characters must have been youmafied within two weeks of powering up, or must otherwise be an unpowered civilian. The longer a character has been youmafied, the less likely they are to purify, and the more work will need to be put into the plot. You cannot reserve a name or sphere/wonder if you win a Straight-to-youma character; you can only say that they were powered (with staff approval). Please consider that your character cannot have a backstory that would give them an advantage to other characters who are freshly awakened! PC Youma cannot have awakened prior to Beryl's return in the 80s, as there was no Negaverse to awaken them between that and the fall of the Silver Millennium. Because Youma are rare characters and have the potential to be game-breaking if players assume something is fine, we request that all players reach out to staff with any intended backstory reveal prior to doing anything ICly. If you have any special requests for a character that came into the shop as a youma, please ask the shop mule and we can work with you!

      Glamour

Half Youma characters that purify will lose their civilian identity. The magic behind a glamour exists to protect starseeds; in the case of Order characters, the magic comes from the cosmos itself. There is no way to keep your identity in a Half-Youma purification.

Full Youma are slightly different, as unpowered civilians can be youmafied. When a character was youmafied as a civilian and then purifies, they will return to the civilian they were prior to youmafication and will not gain a new glamour. All powered characters that were youmafied will follow the above rules for Half-Youma.

      Memories

Half-youma characters will lose half of their memories--either their civilian life from before they became half-youma, or their powered life. They operate very closely to any other side swap, except to purify or remove their half-youma features they need a Court or Brigade to work with the Royal. While it may be possible to recover some of these memories through plots, players should expect that the character has lost an entire aspect of their previous self. There are some IC RP Items that can recover memories as well, however all of these need plot approval from the mule, first.

Full Youma characters are a different story and come in many variations; for PC characters that were youmafied, the circumstances of their youmafication and if they are powered or unpowered must be factored in. Powered characters who were youmafied (Regardless of alignment) will likely lose a large portion of all their memories--civilian, powered, or youma memories will all become fragmented and spotty upon purification. For civilians that were youmafied, they may also suffer from memory loss from their time as a civilian or a youma. These memories may remain spotty and some may recover over time, but characters who have been youmafied and then purified may always feel a state of disconnect with their past. They do not lose a static ‘civilian or powered’ memories, but rather, a mixture of all of their memories will be affected; this will be discussed on an individual basis due to the extreme variations in Youma approval.

Regardless of which memories are retained, purifying Youma and Half-Youma characters will not be able to recall the civilian identity of powered characters they used to be allied with. A haze will form in their mind to protect previous allies after the side swap to ensure other characters are not in danger. They will be unable to recall civilian identities, and things that would otherwise endanger players or cause meta issues. For example, a character may forget civilian identities, training locations, and meta secrets from the faction.

      Art

Each faction is only guaranteed a set number of templated pieces of art. Youma are only guaranteed one stage of art, whereas all common characters are typically guaranteed three pieces of art. When a half-youma purifies, they are still guaranteed three stages of art; the player may choose to upgrade at the same time as their purification, where they can get purified youma art for their growth art. If the character is not near growth, or if they have already reached third stage, they are not guaranteed another stage of art. They may choose to purchase alt art, however it is not necessary for play.

Because straight-to-youma characters are purchased with only one stage of art, if they purify then all other stages must be purchased as alt art; they are only eligible to purchase the next stage of alt art after they have reached growth requirements for their current stage. You cannot play a character at a higher rank until you have completed art of them. Characters that began as humans and were then youmafied forfeited any owed art beyond that because youma art is more complex than standard templated art. If a player wants to purify a youma character they previously obtained on templates, they will also need to obtain alt art if the character is purifying to a rank different than any art they already have. Because players are only guaranteed art once they reach requirements, youma art is typically substituted for growth art; this means, when they purify they have usually completed the requirements to grow to the next rank and will be that rank when they purify. Players do not need to obtain alt art for second stage if that is the case, but they must purchase alt art for third stage before they can grow. If a character youmafied before reaching their next growth, they must purchase art of the next stage of growth once they reach those requirements. Growth requirements can only be met while the character was a human; RPs done while as a youma may not count, but players who are in this position, or any difficult or confusing art situation, are encouraged to message The Space Cauldron so we can work it out with them.

Sending in a Half-Youma or Youma Purification Proposal

All Half-Youma and Youma purifications must be approved before they can ICly occur. The following form must be sent in to The Space Cauldron if your Half-Youma or Youma is purifying. Half-Youma and Youma purifications are different from most standard factions and have specific rules, so this form only applies to them. A straight to youma character that purifies is not considered a double side swap, however if a character is an established character and is played, and then youmafies, and later decides to purify, this will follow double side swap rules; information on that can be found here.

      The Form:

    Quote:
    1. Which Character will be purifying? (Please link to their journal)

    2. What development has led up to you pursuing a purification for this character? (This section is for what has already happened in RP to push you in this direction. Please include any IC reasoning that has inspired your character to pursue this course; if you intend to have a forced corruption, please just include that!)

    3. What plot will you be pursuing to undergo the purification? (This section is for what you want to have happen in RP and should detail how you intend for the purification to occur. This should not be a flippant decision and should have IC thought before occurring. Please also include which Court or Brigade you will be utilizing, and which fourth stage Order character. A list of Brigades and Courts can be found here. If no PC fourth stage characters are available, the shop can offer Cosmos for purifications. Cosmos can hear and will respond to the call of any Chaos character whose starseed is calling out for help. Before submitting a plot that utilizes any player owned characters, please have their permission to be included in this proposal!)

    4. Where do you want to see your character after the purification? What will their new goals be? (We ask that players fill out this information to make sure they have a plan post purification; this is not supposed to be done frequently, so we need to make sure that players have a goal in mind. This can be a simple goal that benefits only them or has personal reasons, or it can be a goal meant to impact the war.)

    5. What new identity will your character be taking on? (In the case of powered purifications, we want to ensure that powered names are available. Half-Youma Agents that purify may need a new Knight name, and some Corrupted Senshi that have Fully Youmafied may have taken on a random name, or a Mineral name, and may not have previously selected a Celestial Body.

(In the case of Half-Youma, do they remember their civilian or powered life? While all characters must lose either civilian or powered memories, the player may choose to lose more memories. It would also be possible to remember a few important memories on whatever side they are losing, provided there is a solid explanation for why those memories should remain. Full Youma characters will lose mixed memories; they may lose more if the player chooses, but they will have foggy memories for a while. They may regain some memories as time goes on, but please outline what you want your character to remember here.)

Recorruption and Repurification

Recorruption and Repurification are also known as Double Side Swaps. Any character that has previously side swapped can swap back to their original faction, but this often comes with severe consequences that can vary based on faction, rank, and number of side swaps.

This is not a path that should be chosen lightly, and will require a well thought out plot. Recovering from a double side swap requires significant effort. Before submitting for a Double Side Swap, please consider the following:

    Art

Each faction is only guaranteed a set number of templated pieces of art. Youma are only guaranteed one stage of art, Mauvians are guaranteed two pieces of art (their cat and humanoid form), and all other factions are guaranteed three pieces of art. You will only receive one stage of art for each rank. If your Lieutenant purifies when they grow to a Squire, and then recorrupts while still a Squire, they will ICly return to being a Negaverse Lieutenant. When it is time for them to grow, they will not receive Captain art, because they have already received their second stage art. Without proper faction appropriate art, these characters cannot be certed, but their old art can be used if requesting an icon. The third stage art slot will be used when the character reaches third stage.

    Rank

Double-Side Swap characters will automatically drop a rank. First stage characters cannot double side swap; the damage would be too immense on their starseeds. A double side swapping third stage would return to second stage, for example, and must complete new growth requirements to regain third stage in their side-swapped faction.

    Growth Requirements

Double side swaps take a physical toll on a starseed, and the sheer amount of power that passes through a starseed during a double side swap causes immense damage. Double side swapped characters can regrow any lost stages, but to do so they must double their cooldown and growth requirements for the stage lost. This only affects the stage they lost in the double side swap, not any stages beyond that. For example, a White Moon Basic senshi joined the Negaverse and grew into a Corrupted Super Senshi; the Corrupted Super Senshi is now purifying. Because of the Double Side Swap, they lose a rank when they purify. Normally, a first stage senshi must be in play for one month, and most complete 8 Solos and 13 RPs (at least 5 of which must be battles). A Double Side Swapped Senshi that has lost a rank must be in play for two months before they can grow, and must complete 16 Solos and 26 RPs (at least 10 of which must be battles) to return to Super stage. However, once they complete the double requirements for Super stage, they can grow to Eternal Stage using the standard Cooldown and RP Requirements.

Only RPs done while they are in their current faction can count towards growth; this means you cannot use roleplays for growth if they ICly occurred before the character completed their most recent side swap. When a Double Side Swapped Character is posting to grow back to the stage they lost, they must also send in a plot to The Space Cauldron. This plot can be simple, but it must outline why their starseed is capable of handling more power and/or how they have proved that they deserve that power back. This just needs to be a reasonable IC explanation for why they should be trusted with more power.

Order characters may be spending more time healing and restoring their homeworld, Negaverse characters may be taking in more Chaos/doing special tasks to prove themselves to Metallia, and Dark Mirror Senshi may be spending more time in Mirrorspace trying to restore themselves and their realms.

    Physical Changes

Double Side Swaps, and Triple Side Swaps or more, come with some physical changes that are both short and long term and can affect their recovery. These can include:

      • Prolonged throbbing or stabbing pains to the starseed; these may come and go and may happen while powered or unpowered.
      • Decrease in Magical Potential; henshining may be more draining and they may find that their attacks leave them more winded. While it is player choice as to how severely their characters react to this, at the very least it will be more taxing on the body as they readjust and heal.
      • More susceptible to Chaos; Chaos characters will be easily influenced by Chaos; they are not in a position to reject it. They are also far more susceptible to becoming sick or youmafying from starseed consumption. Order characters that have double side swapped will find that Chaos characters can drain them with greater ease than ever before. Both sides must be careful

    Rare Characters

Rare characters, such as Full Youma and Mauvians, that do not follow the traditional three stages of growth, have slightly altered rules when it comes to double side swaps. A youma that is purified into a civilian does not count as a powered side swap because the civilian is not powered. If a civilian later powers up and corrupts, this does not count as a double side swap. Youma that are created from a powered character do not count as a side swap; because of the unique damage to their starseed that occurred in youmafication, and then the unique healing they recieve during purification, they do not take on the same damage as a typical three stage character would. If a purified youma later corrupted into the Negaverse as an Agent, this would count as their first side swap. Mauvians do not have stages to lose when they corrupt, but their starseeds can become damaged after multiple side swaps in such a way that it may make it difficult to awaken, purify, or use magical abilities (like their forehead laser, or shifting between forms), for a few months after their double side swap.

    Glamour

All characters that undergo a double side swap will lose their civilian identity. Otherwise, any characters with a compromised glamour will receive a new glamour ICly anyway, regardless of a sideswap or not.Double Side Swap characters cannot return to their original civilian identity; their identity is considered compromised, and returning to the person they were before their side swaps would only put them in danger.

Powered characters will change appearance as well, and will gain a new powered identity. It is player choice if they would like their character to be recognizable to those who knew them before their double side swap, or if they should appear like a completely new character to others. Old allies from the faction they uncorrupted into may recognize them, as they will return to their original powered form.

Rare characters, such as Youma and Mauvians, are the exception to the rule about glamour; they should follow the specific side swap rules for their factions, as listed above.

    Memories

Every side swap, no matter how willing, will result in extreme memory loss.

Double Side swapped characters do not regain any memories they lost during their first side swap; they lose additional memories on top of those already lost.

Rare characters, and Dark Mirror Senshi, are the exception to losing memories in this way during a double side swap, and should follow the rules outlined for their faction side-swaps.

    Fourth Stage

A character who has double side swapped may still be eligible for fourth stage, but it is important to consider that these characters would need to go absolutely above and beyond both ICly and OOCly. They will need to do extensive plotting and roleplay so they ICly can handle the power, and can prove that they are dedicated enough to become a true representative for their faction. This is difficult, but if a player is committed to their character, they may still be eligible after double, or even more, side swaps. This would take a very good plot, and very solid IC reasoning, as well as staying active and being dedicated to the faction for at least nine months after reaching third stage.

Sending in a Double Side-Swap Proposal

All double side swaps must be approved before they can ICly occur. The following form must be sent in for any side swaps. Double Side Swaps typically follow the same rules as outlined in the above posts, but require a little extra information. Because Double Side Swaps come with repercussions, please make sure you are prepared to play them as such.

      The Form:

    Quote:
    1. Which Character will be side-swapping? (Please link to their journal)

    2. Have you written the character in their new faction? (Double Side Swaps should not be used as a ‘fresh start’ option for character that have not been played. While we will always work with players who are stuck, if you have not played your character in their current faction, we ask that you try to establish them somewhat before swapping them again unless you have a very solid proposal or a reason why. If you intend to corrupt a character and later purify them, please do not send in the double side swap form until after you have played them as a Corrupted character. You can indicate that you intend to purify them in the initial proposal, but side swaps tend to take a lot of time and plots can change; you will need a current side swap proposal sent in when you are ready.)

    3. What is their side-swap history? (Please give a brief summary of their previous side swaps, including motivation and plots. This does not need to be detailed, but it helps the staff to have a refresher)

    4. What development has led up to you pursuing a double side swap for this character? (This section is for what has already happened in RP to push you in this direction. Please include any IC reasoning that has inspired your character to pursue this course; if you intend to have a forced corruption, please just include that!)

    5. All DMC Require a fourth stage Dark Mirror Senshi Royal. Before submitting a plot that utilizes any player owned characters, please have their permission to be included in this proposal! Please make sure to give a solid reasoning for why your character should be trusted to move to another faction ICly! This may be harder within the Negaverse, as they also kill traitors, so a solid proposal for how your character can earn a chance will be important.)

    6. Where do you want to see your character after the switch? What will their new goals be? (We ask that players fill out this information to make sure they have a plan post side-swap; double side swapping is not supposed to be done frequently, so we need to make sure that players have a goal in mind. This can be a simple goal that benefits only them or has personal reasons, or it can be a goal meant to impact the war. Please outline what your character might be doing to regain trust, or how they intend to prove themselves and their loyalty after their double side-swap.)

    7. What identity will your character be taking on? (In the case of side swaps, we want to ensure that powered names are available. Negaverse Agents that purify may need a new Knight name, and some Corrupted Senshi have taken on Mineral names and may not have previously selected a Celestial Body. Order Senshi corrupting into the Negaverse may need a new mineral name if they wish to acclimate better, and corrupting Knights will need a new mineral name. These names will be reserved for three months while the plot is being completed; if the plot takes longer than that and the player does not contact the shop to request more time before these three months are expired, the name will not be reserved further. You will need to submit powered revisions before the character can use any new powered abilities, and you may also need to submit a revision to the civilian profile depending on how much their personality changes during the side-swap. Double Side Swapped characters will always get a new glamour and cannot return to a previous one.)

    8. What is the effect on their memories? (Do they remember their civilian or powered life? If the corruption is traumatic they will be expected to lose many more memories, and while all characters must lose either civilian or powered memories, the player may choose to lose more memories. It would also be possible to remember a few important memories on whatever side they are losing, provided there is a solid explanation for why those memories should remain. Double side swapped characters do not regain any memories lost in previous side swaps.)

FAQ

  • Are the side effects of a side swap common IC knowledge?

They are common enough! If your character has been around for a while they might know by word of mouth that memories are forgotten between the switch.

  • If a character loses their civilian memories during a sideswap and later saw pictures of their old civilian self, would they recognize that person?

A character who sideswapped and lost their civilian memories might have a vague recollection that they could know the person in the photo but it would feel like déjà vu and they would have no concrete memories.

  • If a character side swaps, does their civilian profile need to have a total revision? Would they have the same skills or would they have to relearn everything?

In some side swaps (such as those in and out of the DMC), there is no memory loss, however in side swaps where memory loss is necessary the personality can be totally rewritten, or it can carry over, at player choice. They may not remember who they were, but they may have similar traits and hobbies if the player desires. If the player wants a complete blank slate, the trauma of the side swap can leave them feeling completely detached from who they used to be, and the player can write a brand new profile for them, provided they post in the revision thread for a stamp when they finish their changes.

  • When a character develops a new civilian glamour, what happens to their fingerprints, or DNA?

Because of the way glamours work, genetic materials would be altered and would prevent anyone from being identified through things such as DNA tests or fingerprinting. They would appear to be from a similar genetic background, but a test would not reveal anything directly related between the old identity and the new one.

  • How does a side swap affect animals or pets with a close relationship to the character?

Some animals may not be able to recognize someone at all after a side swap and will respond as if they have met a stranger, however some animals may instead still have some familiarity and friendliness towards them post side-swap. The animal might not remember a person specifically, but they would instead recognize the ‘new’ civilian glamour as if it were someone they had the same bond with. Commands or behaviors that could be used to reveal someone’s previous glamoured identity would not be effective but the animal can recognize that they have the same bond. If a dog knew the command ‘Go get Dad’ they would not recognize their owner’s new glamour as ‘Dad’ but could still see the new glamoured identity as someone that has the same role in their mind. The animal might not even miss the old identity because they know the new identity is someone who fills that role in their heart completely, even if the animal cannot make the mental distinction that the new glamour is the same person. This would allow owners of side-swapped animals to maintain the same bond without any major changes in their relationship while also preserving their new civilian glamour.

  • When a character swaps sides, who provides them with their new identity, and paperwork to live new lives?

Typically, Mauvians are responsible for this on both sides, however any tech savvy character is capable of creating fake IDs. Mauvians are particularly useful due to their experience with technology, but the Negaverse also has an extensive system created to make sure all new identities are believable. Mauvians are capable of creating IDs, fabricating school records, social security numbers, or degrees or certifications.

  • Is it easier or less draining for anyone performing a side swap to do so at their source of power? For example, would it cost less energy for a Princess to purify while on her Planet, or a General Sovereign to Corrupt in Negaspace?

Yes! Being at the source of their power grants them an extra boost. Any corruption or purification will still drain them, but being at the source of their power makes it less of a strain, or allows them to recover a little quicker.

  • What happens to a personal item if a character swaps sides?

It would depend on the personal item, but the item should mostly still work after a side swap; there may be some differences (Such as, for items that might recharge on a homeworld they may need to instead charge in Negaspace, or vice versa), but these are usually handled on a case by case basis to work out what is best for each player. If anyone pursues a sideswap that affects their personal item, we will work with them to make sure it is still functioning/usable!

  • Can a civilian who was youmafied be purified and later become powered?

Yes; it is very possible that a civilian could be youmafied before they were ready to awaken and would only be able to awaken at some point in time after they were purified. A youma cannot awaken as a powered character, so the powered abilities of the starseed would remain dormant. If the civilian powered up after being purified, their starseed would be capable of reaching all three stages. They might be awakened for Order or Chaos, with no adverse effects.

  • If a civilian finds out about an Order Senshi's identity and later joins the opposing faction, what happens? Do they need to corrupt?

This is very iffy territory because it opens up a lot of plot holes. Technically, if a civilian knows about an Order Senshi's civilian identity and later awakens as a Negaverse agent, a glamour would appear to disassociate the Negaverse's knowledge of the senshi side and the civilian side's relationship, however the Senshi's memory would not be affected. This means, if the new Negaverse agent suddenly forgot, the Senshi would still remember and may realize something is wrong when the civilian/new agent doesn't remember. Typically we would like to request that if an unpowered civilian learns someone's powered identity, you keep it within the faction you intend to awaken them in. Anything else will always need a plot submission to The Space Cauldron so we can work out a plot that avoids any potential plot holes.

  • Does a forcible Corruption require more energy than a willing one?

It does, though General Sovereigns are capable of restoring energy by spending some time in Negaspace, eating starseeds, or asking for Metallia's blessing! A Dark Mirror Royal could spend time in Mirrorspace or restore some of their own energy by breaking a charged mirror shard over their tiara.

  • Can a Knight be Corrupted into the Negaverse at their Wonder, or a Senshi on their Homeworld?

Technically, yes, but if a Knight is in any perceived danger from a guest they brought, the Wonder will expel the guest back to Earth. It would be very difficult to corrupt at a Wonder due to the safeguards in place for protecting a Knight there. The Knight would also be stronger there and would require more energy to corrupt, due to the natural healing state of their world. Once a Knight has been Corrupted, the Wonder immediately shuts down and is inaccessible unless there is a Knight to protect it, so if a Knight were to corrupt at their Wonder, the split second the chaos takes hold, both them and the Fourth Stage corrupting officer would be ejected back to Destiny City. The same is true for Senshi being corrupted into the Negaverse!

  • If a Negaverse Agent has bonded to a Youma and either purifies, what happens?

If a Negaverse Officer purifies and has a personal youma, the personal youma will return to the Rift and can bond with a new officer when it is ready. If the youma is humanoid or more intelligent, it may be traumatic for the youma in the same way that losing a personal youma is traumatic for an officer. Losing a bonded officer or youma might be painful or distressing for whichever member is remaining in the Negaverse, but the bond will break quickly and without extra pain during the purification of the evacuating character.

  • What would happen if a Nega tried to corrupt a person that is an unawakened Senshi or Knight? If they are an awakened Senshi or Knight but just in civilian form?

If a General tries to corrupt an unawakened senshi, they would be met with a strange amount of resistance. They could continue to forcibly try to pump Chaos into the starseed, but this would result in youmafication rather than corruption. The same can be said for a General who attempts to corrupt a civilian if they are already powered up. Only a General Sovereign can corrupt an awakened order character. Civilians who have the potential to awaken but have not yet powered up can have a dormant starseed within them; a Knight might not have been ready to be awakened and so their starseed offers no resistance when corrupted.

  • When a civilian is about to awaken as a Knight, the weapon appears in front of them. Could a civilian awaken as a Negaverse agent even if their Knight weapon appeared before them but they hadn't had a chance to touch it/awaken as a Knight?

This would probably be fairly uncommon, however is possible! If the item appeared and they saw it but they had not come in contact with it, a General or higher could still awaken them into the Negaverse. If the civilian touched the Knight weapon, they would immediately power up into a Knight and then you would need a General Sovereign to corrupt them (and it would count as a side swap).

  • Can a Corrupted Senshi side swap into the Dark Mirror Court?

Not directly; the Corrupted Senshi would first have to purify and then be corrupted again into the Dark Mirror Court. This would count as a double side swap and they would be stuck at Super stage until they completed the double requirements to grow. A Corrupted Senshi cannot directly corrupt into the Dark Mirror Court (or vice versa) OOCly because it means either could forcibly absorb each other and it would endanger all Chaos Senshi to each other. ICly, the Chaos is not compatible for a direct side swap and could not override another chaotic entity.

  • Is there any way for someone to Corrupt themselves rather than have some Chaos figure push the Chaos into their starseed? For example, if someone (either a regular human or an Order character) got into a very dark place mentally, could they corrupt themselves/succumb to the darkness?

It is not possible for an individual to corrupt themselves. An outside force needs to physically push the Chaos into their starseed. The Chaos always needs to come from a source, as this magical power is what grants them their special abilities.

  • How many starseeds does a Negaverse character have to consume in order to Half-Youma or Fully Youmafy?

While this depends on the individual and there is no set number, frequency of starseed consumption is the most important factor. An officer can consume a high quantity of starseeds over a long period of time and have no adverse effects, but if they consume a high quantity of starseeds in a short period of time they may partially or fully youmafy. Starseeds become dangerous when a large number of them are consumed in a very short time period. There is no set number of starseeds that will cause youmafication. An agent may eat fifteen over the course of a year and suffer no negative consequences whereas an agent who ate fifteen in a month may youmafy. In some ways, starseeds are like a toxin in the system; a small amount might not be enough to damage the system and can be processed out of the body with some time. Consuming a large number of starseeds quickly would allow the 'toxin' to build up before it can be processed out, resulting in youmafication.

  • If a Negaverse officer merges with a youma and becomes a Half-Youma, what happens to the Youma side during purification? What if the purification is interrupted?

A successful purification will destroy the youma completely; when a human and youma merge, they are no longer two separate beings but are instead a single entity. There would have been no way for either to separate without magical intervention. Purification burns out the youma portion of the starseed and restores the starseed to its natural state, allowing the character to return to a human form. If a half-youma purification was attempted but wasn’t completed, the half-youma would wind up in immense burning/stinging pain, but the youma side would not be destroyed or separated from the human side. There is no way to separate the youma aspect from a half-youma without a successful purification.

  • Why can’t Corrupted Senshi Half-Youmafy?

Senshi cannot half youmify because youma have an innate distrust and dislike of all senshi, even Corrupted Senshi. They are incompatible to function as a merged being; if a youma and senshi tried to merge, they would tear themselves apart and rather than create a new being, and both would simply cease to exist. While a senshi can still youmify due to an overwhelming Chaos affecting their starseed, due to their conflicting nature there is no middle ground: they will either die or turn into a full youma. If they turn into a youma, they will lose all connection with their senshi side and will only be able to use (approved) youma magic. Ascendant Generals are still senshi so even though they have gained abilities of entering the Rift and command over lesser youma, attempt at merging would still tear them apart resulting in death or being turned into a full youmafication. Their starseeds are simply incompatible so a true merge cannot be completed.

  • If a character who is infected with youmaglia purifies, what happens to the youmaglia? To the character?

Youmaglia are designed to combat earnest attempts at purification, but if someone infected with one still manages to purify, then the youmaglia will be dusted in the process. It is not strong enough to withstand the overwhelming energy. The host will not face any negative repercussions to the youmaglia burning out, though they may feel particularly drained. The youmaglia will attempt to regain control and influence until it is destroyed, and this can be taxing on the host.

  • What happens to a Youma Prosthetic when a character purifies?

If a character with a Youma graft purifies, they will completely lose any youma implants and the properties or abilities that came with the implants. These are Negaverse specific prosthetics; they are given to an Agent and work in tandem with the Chaos inside of them. Without the Chaos, there is no bond to hold them together and the magic from a fourth stage during a purification would completely burn out the youma. If an Agent has a small youma implant designed to replace a missing organ or limb, such as an eye or a hand, the purification simply burns all traces, leaving the then-purified agent with only their natural body.

  • Is it possible for a purification of a Half-Youma or Youma to fail? Are there any repercussions?

A purification can only fail ICly for a few reasons, the most prominent of which would be that the purifying character rejects the purification or fights against it. Only youma that have a trace of their humanity can purify, and all full-youma purifications need approval before they can be done; an effort to purify an ineligible youma can fail, but only because their starseed is too deteriorated and there isn’t enough of their original self to return to. Because the vast majority of youma are too far gone to purify, attempting to purify most NPC youma will end in failure, but all attempts need approval regardless.

  • If a Negaverse Agent purifies into a Knight, what happens to the medals that they have earned?

The medals given out by the Negaverse are not necessarily of magical background; they are rewards that are handed out and can be worn as accessories. Because these are a natural part of the uniform, they may stay after a side swap (as long as they weren't being worn at the time). If the medals were worn at the time of purification, they will disappear with the rest of the Negaverse Uniform. If the medals were being stored somewhere or were just not attached to the uniform, they can remain even after purification.

  • Is it possible to purify a Negaverse Agent who wasn’t assigned a Knight Wonder in their past life? Is it possible to have a purified Agent awaken as a new Knight guarding a new Wonder?

Sort of, but this requires plotting, as a new Wonder can only be assigned by a Royal Knight during their purification. If a Negaverse Agent did not have a Wonder in a past life, a Royal Knight has the ability to find a viable Wonder for them to protect. This means, they can sense a Wonder in need who has permanently lost its Knight. A Royal Knight cannot create a new wonder, but they can assign a purifying Negaverse agent to take over protection of this Wonder. To do so, they will need to include this in the purification PM to the mule. The Royal Knight will use their close connection with the Code to reach out to the Code Piece at the Wonder in need; they can resonate with that Wonder, and the Wonder can accept the offered help and claim the new Knight as its own.

  • Can a Chaos character who has Purified Transcend? Can Order character who has double side swapped back into Order still Transcend?

Yes! All that is required is a powerful and sincere bond to the Homeworld or Wonder. In most cases, a character is required to be at third stage before Transcending, but it is more important to show that they truly have a deep link with their homeworld. Usually these characters will have to work more towards earning Transcendence, but it is still available to characters who have purified from a chaos faction (or double side swapped)!

  • Is it possible for a fourth stage character to swap sides?

It is possible for a fourth stage to switch sides. However, this would require both a strong OOC reasoning as well as a strong IC plot. There would also be heavy IC complications resulting from the side swap, and the fourth stage character wouldn't have access to the stage or associated powers for a while. These could be re-earned, but would require a plot to explain how they earned the power back, as well as a set cooldown time before they could access the stage again. This is not something staff will easily approve, and should not be pursued unless the player is very serious about it and is prepared to do massive work to make it happen. There are severe issues with characters who have double side swapped, so if a fourth stage character has swapped sides once already then they may not be able to retain fourth stage at all if they swap again.

The exact methods are not concrete because it has never been done before, but the purification would likely need to involve at least Cosmos for purification, because she is a meta-level Order character, and at least Laurelite for corruption, because she is a meta-level Negaverse character. Other factions would be more difficult but with the proper plot could be figured out.

The only way for an Order Fourth stage to corrupt is willingly; to corrupt them would take an immense amount of power in the first place, and a forced purification could have catastrophic damage so should not ICly occur.

  • What would happen to Knights serving on a Homeworld where a PC Prince/Princess corrupts? Can Corrupted Fourth Stage Royals have Knights?

All fourth stage senshi can have Knights, but in order for Knights to awaken, the senshi's homeworld must be alive and they must be connected to it. Corrupted Senshi and Dark Mirror Senshi do not have a bond with their planet so unless they purified, they would not have access to Knights and no players could quest for them.

If a Royal Senshi were to corrupt, the Knights who were awakened prior to the corruption would still be able to function. While their unique power themes come from the planet of their Royal Senshi, their magic is tied to the Code Piece on the planet and not the planet itself. No new Knights could awaken, however, as the Code Pieces would not resonate/awaken without the planet being alive. Knights would not be able to travel from their Wonder and explore the rest of the world, as it would have shut down without its Senshi.
