ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST CHECK IN HERE DAILY!


-This is the TRIALS DAILY STATUS EFFECT THREAD. EACH TEAM MEMBER MUST READ THIS, consider this a status effect that affects the entire current trial. Once a NEW status effect has been posted, it overrides the old one. Make sure your characters RP accordingly to each updated status effect (think of it similar to the Amityville /Deus Ex status effect thread). You wi

-Only ONE person from each team needs to update their group's thread with the DAILY STATUS EFFECT AND QUOTE IT ON THE FIRST POST OF THEIR PAGE. Any group who has NOT updated their status effect at the end of the day before the next effect rolls over will immediately be given the worst status effect possible. They will also need to adjust anything accordingly, such as the HP of their group total, their personal HP, whatever is required for that obstacle that is requested to be posted on the front page.

DAILY STATUS EFFECT MARCH 7TH

"Ding ding ding! The four hours of construction time is now over!" The Trials announcer was back on the screens, giving everyone a small wave before the screens moved over to the various sand structures set up by the Trials teams. "In a moment, all groups and spectators may walk along the designated path and visit the structures! Cheer on your friends! Cheer on your teammates, well, at your own risk, don't everyone all rush to one spot now!"



OOC: WALKING AROUND


SPECTATORS

- If you are a spectator (or anyone in this ORP who has not signed up for Trials, including GUEST students), you may now visit ANY of the Sandcastle threads that has its title marked OPEN. If its thread title is NOT marked OPEN PLEASE DO NOT POST IN THAT GROUP'S THREAD. If that thread title shifts to CLOSE, simply assume your character has moved on to the next sandcastle.
- Your character is free to look at the castle as they please, stare/comment on it, but be aware that the owners of the castle might be on the move as well, so unless directly quoted by one of the castle owners, be sure not to quote them as their character may not be around!
- When entering a group's thread, make sure to post on the top in BOLD [ENTERING] and when exiting be sure to post in the top in bold [EXITING] so people know, and will not try to talk to a character that has EXITED.
- You will be allowed to "roam" all the threads for the next 24 hours, that is until 11:59 am PST on March 7th!



CONTESTANTS

- ICLY your character is DONE with the building part of the sandcastle and may move to other threads/ talk a bit in the spectator booth with people hanging around there, whatever you please. To make sure to avoid any confusion, when your character leaves to interact with others, please post AT THE TOP OF YOUR POST [ENTERING] or [EXITING] so people know where your character is! Quote whomever you want to talk to in the thread at that time.
- OOCLY: you may still work on your sandcastle/ choose items/ make an image for the next 24 hours until 11:59 PM PST March 7th!
- YOUR THREAD IS NOT OPEN FOR VISITING UNTIL YOU MARK ITS TITLE WITH A BOLD [OPEN]. That is to let people know your thread is open for interaction and viewing. If you wish to change your mind, or ICly have the thread cut off from viewing, simply change your thread's title to [CLOSED].

DAILY STATUS EFFECT MARCH 8TH

"All participants, please return to your sandcastle, the real test of the trial will begin soon!" There was a loud ringing noise as the spectators also dispersed, returning back to the spectator area. "Now, in a few minutes, the magic will happen, but first, a few rules."

The screen zoomed back to the Famine ambassador, the one in charge of explaining to participating teams earlier the sandcastle rules. "All of you have been tagged with a small souvenir, don't worry, you should be feeling its Fear effect soon. This is to make sure that you understand what it means to fight all elements while defending your own." The real surprise was when the ambassador had done such a thing. As he continued to talk, everything around the participants suddenly seemed to grow incredibly large: in fact, a mere shovel was the size of a large pumpkin chariot. The grains of sand looked more like small brick blocks: even the smallest shellfish loomed over them in size like a boulder.

All team members were now incredibly tiny. Their sandcastle was an honest to Jack fortress at their size. Even then, they could still hear the slow, booming voice of the ambassador. "Survive all the waves of onslaughts, defend your castle. The Trial has now begun!"

The loud cheer from the crowd nearly swept some participants off their feet.

DAILY STATUS EFFECT MARCH 8TH PART 2

Everything is ridiculously large! You search around for anything to defend yourself with, but it looks like you are going to have to use your own abilities. Unfortunately for you, natural abilities are locked, though if you are lucky, as are Fear abilities, it really looks like you are in for a tough ride.

You look to your structure. Are you so sure it will survive the first onslaught? The water is still far away, the breeze is gentle, and you hear a strange sound, a loud shuffling noise.

Coming right towards your sandcastle is an army of crabs. Large, monstrous crabs, straight from the ocean, brandishing pincers easily three times your size. There is little you can do about them, other than try your best to ward them away: will your castle remain standing?

OOC CRAB BATTLES
Wording Error in the Trials

There was an error where I used the word "hit" in the Trials against the first mob of crabs, basically "every time you hit, you take -5 HP". This is my fault because this word could be interpreted very differently depending on the person, so I consider the first round a free turn. That means if you defeated the boss, that's great, but if you don't defeat it, at the end of the 24 hours, it will scuttle away as well <3

All HP will be recovered at the end of this turn, regardless of where you stand right now.

DAILY STATUS EFFECT MARCH 9th

Everything looks safe for now, the crabs scuttling away as fast as they arrived. You breathe an audible sigh of relief, until you hear a strange whooshing noise: is it just you or is the sand sinking beneath your feet? Your castle begins to sway and droop in odd places: the tide is coming in and it threatens to sweep your entire castle off its foundations!

OOC MECHANICS: THE TIDE


- The tide threatens to sweep your entire sandcastle away! There are TWO PARTS to this second "wave" of onslaughts against your castle. FIRST, apply the bonuses to your castle as listed below:

THE TIDE PART 1: ROLLING FOR DAMAGE

- ONE PERSON (THE FIRST PERSON) IN YOUR GROUP must roll for the damage done to their castle. PLEASE ROLL AND USE THIS FORM BELOW TO CALCULATE DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR CASTLE. PLEASE ONLY DO THIS ONCE.
- The person in charge of the first post must then edit the HP/stats of this post accordingly once they get online!

For example, if I roll a 77, that is OFFENSE. I look at my DEFENSE points. I have 10 defense points. I subtract 77-10. That is 67 damage done to MY CASTLE.

REBUILDING YOUR CASTLE:

- Now that we have determined the DAMAGE DONE to your castle, it is time to rebuild it before the water makes it collapse entirely! Thankfully, after the first onslaught of the tide, the water has retreated for now! Hurry!
- You are now rolling to rebuild your castle for FOUNDATION POINTS. Your castle is teetering rather unstably, it will need (10 for 3 group members, 15 for 4 group members, 20 for 5 group members) STABILITY POINTS In order to stay stable. If you do not get these points by the end of 24 hours a portion of your castle collapses, and you lose 50% of your castle's REMAINING HP.
- EACH TEAM MEMBER MUST ROLL A 20-sided dice THREE TIMES. EVERY TIME YOU ROLL, match your result to the dice below:
- 1- 20: You manage to pat a few pieces in place! +1 foundation points.
- 21 - 40: You manage to get quite a few pieces in place. +2 foundation points!
- 41-60: While shifting the grains of sand around, you accidentally drop one on your foot. Ouch! +0 foundation points.
- 61 - 80: You spend a long time picking up a few pieces of sand, but better than nothing. +1 foundation points.
- 81 - 100: You are really getting the hang of seeing which parts of your castle need the most work. +3 foundation points.

Upon activation, the pearl/sea turtle will magically use its powers to restore your sandcastle! Huzzah! Once used, please REMOVE THE ITEM FROM YOUR FIRST POST, and apply the stats/ hp gain as necessary

DAILY STATUS EFFECT MARCH 10th FINAL FAMINE TRIALS DAY

While most structures were still standing, if not by the last dregs of their manufacturers' energy, the booming voice from the loudspeaker nearly did away with them all. Nearly.

"They have survived onslaughts of horrible monsters, they have survived natural disasters, but can the students survive the last wave." A poignant moment of silence. "The kraken."

At this point, some of the students, who were still half-wading in the water, might have looked at the spectator booth in the distance with something of a look of disbelief, or just outright confusion. Wasn't a kraken some sort of-

Oh.

Perhaps it was the fact that each team had exactly one tentacle that had to reach at least five times their sandcastle's height looming at them, or perhaps that it was that sheer slow, sinking feeling as they realized that oh wait a second, in order to have that happen, that means the creature must surround the entire island. Whatever it was, as most groups looked up, at the shadow of death that hovered over them, they felt a strange feeling from within the very essence of their Fear, a tugging, a heartfelt belonging as if they were bonded to their teammates together and forever-

- by horror.



OOC MECHANICS: THE KRAKEN


- Please note the "KRAKEN" does indeed surround the entire island. Each of its arms/tentacles is large enough to destroy exactly three and a half sandcastles.


APPLYING PRIOR DAMAGE AND ITEMS FIRST:

-APPLYING DAMAGE: Before any groups continue on to the boss, they should make sure that their sandcastle survived last round. If your group DID NOT achieve 10/15/20 full foundation points as requested by number of team members, they take 50% damage of REMAINING HP to their castle. Apply this damage before you begin the kraken boss mechanics.
- EXAMPLE: My team has a group of 4. I need 15/15 stability points, but my team only managed 13/15. Our castle has 50/150 HP. I take -25 damage. That means our castle has 25/150 HP left.
-USING AN ITEM: If your team has NOT USED their SEA TURTLE or PEARL, they may choose to use it now. The SEA TURTLE will automatically be used whenever your HP dips to 0, but please make sure to note it in the main post of the thread. IF you choose to use the pearl now, apply the HP fix before the boss wave, otherwise you will have to calculate boss damage first and then, if your castle is standing, you can use the pearl. You cannot use either of the items during the boss fight, only either before (now) or after it.


BONUS CASTLE STATS:

A clam. THE CLAM STANDS STRONG AGAINST THE KRAKEN. Instead of rolling whatever is stated below, your character can instead, choose to roll 2d20s. Same mechanics as below apply otherwise though.

Mr. Starfish. Mr. Starfish has absorbed enough water and grown up to five times his size! +50 HP HEALED TO YOUR CASTLE, PLEASE APPLY BEFORE BOSS FIGHT.

Real Fake Bird. The real fake bird really looks up, not fearing death-ah. -50% damage done from the kraken PER ATTACK THE STUDENTS DO.

Bucket of Water. The bucket of water causes the kraken's tentacles to become smooth and moist. +1 INSTANT RECOVERY BACK TO 50% HP if your castle goes down AT ANY POINT during this fight. You can only use this once that means if your hp dips back to 0 even after this recover, it does nothing.

Plank of Wood. The plank of wood blocks some of the effects of the tide! All players attacks do +2 extra damage PER ATTACK THEY DO (not the boss to castle, only themselves to boss).

Red Herring. The Red Herring swims back, and it has brought all of its friends, from China, Russia, and Arizona, but not really Canada, cuz like, even though its flag may be red and stuff, its not really a communist, how could you even accuse such an awesome country?! You're just jealous you're not a communist Canadian aren't you well you know what-

- Okay I derailed sorry. It brings back its friends and recovers your castle back to full HP. This mechanic must be used PRIOR TO THE BOSS FIGHT.



BOSS FIGHT PART ONE: ROLLING THE BOSS'S HP:

- ONE PERSON (THE FIRST PERSON) IN YOUR GROUP must roll for the boss. PLEASE ROLL AND USE THIS FORM BELOW TO CALCULATE THE BOSS'S HP. Please post this form in an "EXCLAMATION" post style as a "boss mob" in your own thread. You don't need to edit the first post, just post it in t he thread as a boss mob. You can even come up with some fun flavour text like "Steve the kraken tentacle waved its tentacle around".
- Please note all characters have full recovered HP at this point in time. The Sandcastle's HP is not recovered unless by the mechanics seen above aka, STUDENTS have full recovered HP, not necessary their castle okay.

BOSS FIGHT PART 2: KILLING THE BOSS


- Disregard normal attack mechanics and please use these mechanics below. DO NOT APPLY a "miss" ratio (ie: don't subtract six)
- If you are a group of 3, you are rolling 2d12. If you are a group of 4, you are rolling 2d10. If you are a group of 5, you are rolling 2d8.
- Your first dice roll determines the damage you do to the boss. Your second dice roll determines the the damage the boss does in relatiation TO YOUR OWN CASTLE.
- FOR EXAMPLE: I have a group of 5. I roll 2d8, a 6 and a 7. I do 6 damage to the boss, and the boss does 7 damage to my castle.
- All damage done from the boss does not hit the students but INSTEAD THE SANDCASTLE.
- Make sure to use the form below while posting, so that everyone can figure out what your CURRENT sandcastle's HP is with this mechanic added.
- IF YOU DO NOT DEFEAT THE BOSS, it will berserk and take out your entire sandcastle's HP at the very end, not even a sea turtle can save you.
- Each student is only allowed to have 6 rolls total.
- ONCE THE BOSS's HP HAS HIT 0, you guys have made it! HOORAY.
- IF your castle's HP hits 0, ouch! You instantly lost!

BONUS: GOING DOWN WITH A BANG


If your sandcastle falls rather dramatically thanks to either being unable to defeat the boss or the boss literally sinking your castle, please edit your sandcastle to its beautiful vandalised image. Doing so might earn you some interesting group bonus points.

DAILY STATUS EFFECT MARCH 11TH TRIALS CONCLUSION PART 1:

The kraken left very few castles alive: and even those that survived looked ready to fall apart any second, hanging on by their bare foundations. At last, seconds, minutes, hours later, the attack receded, as each tentacle, even the beaten and bludgeoned ones, retreated back into the ocean.

A moment of silence and then:

"All participants and spectators! The Trials of Famine portion is now closed and judging has commenced! All spectators can now take a thirty minute break before they will be promptly ask to return to their seats for the scoring results. All students in the trials will be returned to their regular - ahem - size and may also walk around, pat each other on the backs, and of course, assess the damage. Be mindful as you walk around of the judges that are looking at each structure. Don't forget to buy some last minute refreshments before you leave, now half prize until the end of the hour!"

True to the announcer's words, the students thankfully, found themselves returned rather happily to their normal compact humanoid forms. From their size, the damage to their castle looked even more abysmal: in fact it was a miracle that some of the structures even stood. That really, only a scant few structures stood.


OOC: REMAINING DAMAGE TALLY

- IF YOUR SANDCASTLE REMAINS STANDING, but you are out of turns and the kraken's HP is not at 0, before it left, its tentacle swings one particularly nasty blow as your castle simply COLLAPSES (INSTANT KO)! If you have a sea turtle you can save your castle, but unfortunately a pearl does nothing.

SPECTATORS:
- ALL SPECTATORS CAN NOW WALK AROUND and talk to the participants (By visiting any thread in this subforum marked OPEN). IF the thread is marked CLOSED, please do not enter it! Also please note which characters are entering an EXITING the thread. IF you are ENTERING the thread, please post at the top in bold, if you are EXITING the thread please do so as well. Make sure to quote whomever you are talking to!

TRIALS PARTICIPANTS:
- A few of you have survived three waves of onslaughts, though many of you have persevered to try your best! Congratulations! An overall tally will be made tomorrow, and points and rankings will be giving out ICly for each group. This will determine the advantage they get in the next Trials
- The next trials will not ICly be happening until MARCH 13TH 2012, so participants please take a few days to take a break, stretch, and enjoy that OOC world. I will post results tomorrow, once again, to which your student can post a reaction to IN THE SPECTATOR THREAD.
- After results have been posted, all TRIALS threads other than the SPECTATOR ONE will be closed off and archived to make way for the next Trials.
- At this point in time, students are welcome to show off the... remains (or not!) of their castle or wander around to see others. Simply post OPEN to open your thread to visitors, and EXIT and ENTER threads as you need to!

THE CONCLUSION: MARCH 12, 2012

"If all participants and teams would be seated...!" A loudspeakers were on full force, the announcer on screen extremely enthused. "Our judges now have the final top three teams to announce. These three teams will receive a bonus head start in the next trial. Once again, for all invested parents, staff, and other esteemed members of Halloween, you can purchase your tickets for the Trials of War today and tomorrow at a discounted group price so get them while there are still seats left, no really." A cough. "And now, without further adieu, we have the three winning groups!"

The Famine ambassador, the very one who had introduced the rules at the start, took the scamplifier again from the gnome, tapping on it sharply a few times so that it didn't bite back. "The three winning teams are: Team Ultimate Darkness, Team Shipsters, and Team Checkered Cats. All teams have been allotted a small score, which will be posted at the judging booth for participant eyes only. These are the scores that will be tallied with the two other scores from the other trials. The team that yields the highest score will be crowned the winner."

They nodded, the camera on screen following them as they posted the scoring sheet on the now empty judging table. The screen quickly split into three screens, one for each winning group's sandcastle, though some of the group members were still in theory, split up and viewing each other's results. "Well then ghouls of boils and all outstanding Halloween and Four Clans citizens," The announcer followed up, "This is the official end to the Trial of Famine! The Trial of War will begin next Webday morning, time as listed on your ticket stub, and don't forget to pick up a fantastic souvenior on the way out!"

The audience burst into a loud cheer again, most likely many just because the trial had been so long and they really wanted to get home again, as several Halloweeners talked amongst themselves, standing up to file towards the portal exit.

The Trials of Famine was officially over.

That means, if you have a guest student, you will not be able to rp in any new rp until Wednesday, though you are free to wrap up the one currently here. Existing students are free to roleplay reactions in their journals, solos, orps, or prps in the regular Amityville thread.

-RAIN EFFECT: Prior to choosing any obstacle course, roll a 10-sided dice. If you roll a 10, OR if you roll on a course that has already been taken you can continue on to choose a course. IF NOT, match your dice roll to the results below. YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS COURSE

5: Underground of Darkness
6: Water Lake
7: Long Grass Field

-WIND EFFECT: - The wind makes all the open courses difficult! If you are running Rock Climbing, Long Grass Field, Snow Dash, Jungle Course, or Open Race Course, you must roll a 10-sided dice before you start the course. If you roll 1 or 10, you are blown away before you can even start it!
