At a Glance

Name: Darwin Okun (He’s the son of a Biologist and a Computer Scientist, he’s lucky not to have been named Pythagoras!)

Nicknames: n/a

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Birthday: March 14

Sign: Pisces

Gemstone: Aquamarine

Blood Type: B

School: Azure Academy Horizon Institute

Fav. Food: Peanut Butter. Amazing stuff, peanut butter.

Hated Food: Mayonnaise, Seafood

Hobbies:
  • Squirrels = Darwin's father has a phobia of mice and squirrels. Mice were rarely a problem, but squirrels are everywhere. When Darwin was young, it was his duty to chase the squirrels out of the yard and away from his dad. The problem is that even though he's now a teenager, Darwin still chases squirrels. He wouldn't know what to do with one if he caught it, but he chases them anyway, and in fact seems to have a mildly unhealthy obsession with them. There's a theory that Darwin does it on purpose to make people think he's nuts - not that it's an opinion that needs more support - but if it's true, Darwin isn't telling.

  • Gotta Catch 'em All! = Darwin loves the Pokemon games and has devoted hundreds of hours to them. He battles competitively and has spent a long time thinking up strategies and EV training his pokemon. He'll be happy to talk your ear off about Pokemon if you give him half a chance.

  • Sudoku = A popular number game? Count Darwin in! It's a puzzle, a challenge, and an easily portable form of entertainment. From little electronic devices to newspaper clippings, he has Sudoku in many forms so that he never has to go without. Darwin can't understand people that don't appreciate the simple elegance of Sudoku.

Virtues:
  • Guileless = Darwin rarely does anything with malicious intent. He may not go out of his way to befriend people, but he doesn't want to hurt them either. Elaborate schemes and drama just aren't for him and he's not the sort to bully. His comments may sometimes be hurtful, but he doesn't intend them that way. He's not verbally abusive, teasing and insulting people, and he doesn't kick people when they're down. In general he just usually means well.

  • Open-minded = So, you're a bisexual cross dresser with a foot fetish? You smoke pot and run around naked? Darwin won't bat an eye. As long as he doesn't see an immediate negative impact from your actions/choices, he really doesn't care. In fact, to him it simply means that there's a greater variety for people-watching. Even if he doesn't understand it half of the time, Darwin finds human behavior fascinating.

  • Easily amused = It doesn't take much to keep Darwin occupied. He thinks water in almost any form - waves on a beach, drops on a window, boiling in a pot, etc. - is fascinating and can spend hours just looking at it. The same holds true for animals, stars, clouds, fire, flowers, crowds of people, and many other things. Sure, watching crowds of people may not be the most productive thing in the world, but it's free and makes Darwin happy, or at least content, so that's a good thing.

  • Beat of a different drum = Darwin rarely concerns himself with the "norms" of society. If he feels like wearing his pajamas to the grocery, he will. If he isn't pleased to meet you, he'll let you know; "Not-so-pleased to meet you" is something he's been known to say, as Jett can attest. He'll follow the crowd if he feels like it, but has no qualms with going his own way.

Flaws:
  • Scatterbrained = Test? What test? Darwin does not remember being told that there would be a test. He also forgot his pencil at home. If you lend him one, you probably shouldn't expect to see it again if he wanders away with it. Darwin is forgetful and disorganized, and therefore unreliable. How Darwin manages to do as well as he does in school in anybody's guess.

  • Easily distracted = " How dare you disturb me, I was- squirrel!" There are only a select few things that can hold Darwin's attention for any length of time, namely numbers. If Darwin is crunching numbers, then he's a busy, happy boy. The rest of the time, there's no guaruntee that something will hold his interest. Darwin has been known to leave mid-conversation to chase squirrels, for example.

  • Communication Error = Despite enjoying the occasional word game, Darwin is not always good at getting his point across. His mind sometimes makes unusual leaps of logic, so when he speaks he tends to jump from point "A" to point "F" without explaining how he got there, which can understandly confuse people. When people do ask for clarification he can get mad, as if he expects people to be able to telepathically keep up with him.

Another problem Darwin sometimes has is figuring out which sentiments are the most important to express in a situation and how to express them. For example, when Darwin found out that Jett wasn't dead, inistead of saying something like " I'm glad, I was so worried you were dead!" he instead said, " You're not dead! Wonderful! Then you can play [this game] with us."

  • Subconcious defence = Darwin is aware of the world, perhaps far more aware of it then you'd expect. Because of his awareness of reality and his desire not to be hurt, he distances himself from it, and from people. Darwin doesn't take care of his appearance, figuring the only people worth his time would be those that can look past it. He plays video games, watches movies, and reads to escape the real world.

His obsession with squirrels developed in part for the same reasons he doesn't take care of his appearance. He figures that anyone that would judge him or look down on him for such a "quirk" would only likely cause drama and hurt in the long run, so he's better off without them. Also, if he's in an uncomfortable situation, he finds nattering on about squirrels tend to drive people away.

When Darwin is forced to face reality, it isn't pretty. He has not developed a good way to handle the cold real world outside of avoiding it. He may run and hide, or even have a break down. When the spider youma attacked, Darwin spent a good amount of the time cowering behind a rubble pile, even though he knew he should've help fight, and even though his friends were in danger. Against the space whale it was only the fact that Jett was literally hanging for dear life that enabled Darwin to save him, and at the time he was acting somewhat on autopilot.

It should be noted that this is an aspect of himself that Darwin is not fully aware of. He is aware that he has a tendency to keep people at a distance, but he if asked he'll say it's because he doesn't like shallow people, stupid people, etc. His true motives are subconcious, which will probably cause problems in the long run.

Physical Description

Eyes: Yellow-Orange ([x] [x]) with thick, fuzzy Caterpillar Eyebrows. Black emo/librarian glasses (he has a tendency to lose them though).

Hair: Green, long enough to be in a ponytail. Straight cut bangs.

Face: Pasty white. This is a boy that spends way too much time indoors.

Body: What muscle he has is minimal for a male, and at 6'0" he is lanky and awkward in appearance, his poor posture not helping in the least.

Relationships
Love - Like - Neutral - Dislike - Hate

  • Raven = Er... she's my girlfriend? I think. She said she was. Girls are so confusing...
  • Jett = Raven's ex-boyfriend. He can be a jerk, but he has a heart, even if he seems to forget about it.
  • Mary = Talks very loudly and refers to people in weird ways; nice though.

Future Sailor Jabberwock

Attacks: Jabberwock is a superior distraction maker, because while his attacks don't cause serious harm, they are quite adept at messing with people's minds because they are not illusions. The effects are temporary, but quite real while they last!

Note: The final effects/hallucinations of these attacks are up to the victim's player, so long as they fit the established parameters. This is your chance to mess with your character!

Regular Attack: Jabberwock Bizarre Affliction <- Bizarre in a "... you're joking." sort of way
  • Description: Jabberwock throws a handful of confetti in his colors at his target. After a 2-3 second delay, the effects finally appear.
  • Effects: Although the exact effect is up to the victim’s player, it must be a painless, physical manifestation that would at worst be a minor inconvenience. Typically it will be something childish, comical, or prank-like. Examples would be someone’s skin becoming sparkly, or sprouting a large handlebar mustache.
  • Range: Confetti-throwing distance, so 6 foot maximum range.
  • Target: Single target, but can affect anyone.
  • Uses: Twice per battle
  • Duration: 15 seconds. After that, everything goes back to how it was, like a "Reset" button was pushed.

Super Attack: Jabberwock Superbious Ailment <- Bizarre in a " WTF!? Not cool!" sort of way
  • Description: Jabberwock throws a handful of confetti in his colors at his target. After a 2-3 second delay, the effects finally appear.
  • Effects: Exact effect are still up to the victim’s player, and they still must painless, physical manifestations. Now however they’re not so funny though, and might actually be a hindrance. Appropriate example effects would be a person’s thumbs falling off – no pain or blood, just… yeah – putting on 50 pounds of fat, etc.
  • Range: Confetti-throwing distance, so 6 foot maximum range.
  • Target: Single target, but can effect anyone.
  • Uses: Twice per battle
  • Duration: 30 seconds. After that, everything goes back to how it was, like a "Reset" button was pushed.

Eternal Attack: Jabberwock Bizarreness Amplification <- Bizarre in a "AAAAAH!" sort of way.
  • Description: Jabberwock spews a swarm of buzzing, black, glittery hearts that fly at the target. If they hit, they vanish in a puff of dark glitter and the effects appear after a 2-3 second delay.
  • Effects: Exact effect up to victim’s player, but it must be a physical manifestation. The effects of his previous two attack could be ignored or worked around, but that's much harder now, and unlike his other two attacks, this attack can cause pain. In addition, even after the main effects “reset” the player has the option for damage to remain. For example, the victim’s hand might grow a fanged mouth that bites/attacks them. The bites would hurt, and even after the effects “reset” and the mouth vanishes, the victim’s player can choose to have the bite wounds remain.
  • Range: 7 foot maximum range.
  • Target: Single target, but can affect anyone.
  • Uses: Once per battle
  • Duration: 30 seconds. After that, the major effects are "reset," but some damage may linger, i.e. the hand-fangs would vanish but the bite wounds might remain.
