Rider F'law

Character Name: F'law (BI: Falawny)
Age: 17 Turns
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Craft/Rank: Dawn Fliers Wingrider
History:
Falawny was born to a small and reclusive mining camp in the Benden Weyr territory. His family and some others had been there for a handful of generations mining the earth for gems. He was the first born son and second born child to his parents. His father was a miner, and his mother cut and polished what his father brought out. During his youth, Falawny learned the techniques for cutting and polishing stones from his mother. He was mediocre in his attempts; finding the processes dull and boring. Felt he was destined to learn mining when his grandfather bounced him on a knee spinning his tales of mining.

His older sister was a frail girl and not suited for mining. Falawny learned basic domestic chores from her before she was married off and moved away. He didn’t really miss her as he found fault with her lack of mining skills. During his 6th turn, a cave in took the life of his grandfather. He was shocked by the loss. After he recovered from his mourning, Falawny pestered his father to teach him mining. He was told to wait until he was bigger and stronger. Two turns later an explosion and resultant rock slide took the leg of his father, retiring him from mining. After recovering, his father was placed in charge of camp supplies.

Repeated pestering got his father to teach him the basics of mining gemstones from the earth. He learned the simple techniques and tools for the job. Because of the loss of his leg, his father was unable to take him below. That fell to another of the camp when Falawny reached the age where he could be apprenticed. He found the confined space didn’t bother him at all. Some members thought he would be good for a wher egg, but he adamantly refused to accept. The mining was all he wanted.

His father, being in charge of the camp supplies, would travel by wagon to the nearest hold. There he would barter the raw and cut gems that the mine had produced for the supplies they needed. Falawny would often accompany his father to assist with loading and unloading the goods. On one such trip, a Benden searchrider was passing thorough. He was fifteen and well able to go, but reluctant to go with the stranger rider. His father, knowing the honor of being Searched, urged him into going when at first he balked. Although he stood, he did not Impress. He was not sure if he was relieved or disappointed in his failure.

Description:
No movement is wasted with Falawny. He moves precisely how and when he wants. Often exuding the feeling of tightly controlled power; he learned to always control his strength from the delicate mining of gems.

He stands 4’9” when he isn’t slightly hunched over; a habit from working in the mines. His hair is a light tan, almost sandy in shade. It is kept cropped relatively short so it isn’t in his way during mining. Light hazel eyes watch everything from an average face. For clothing, its common miner gear in dark browns that hide dirt stains well. He always wears a head band to keep sweat out of his eyes.

Personality:
Falawny is utterly wary of strangers. He distrusts the reason for their approaching him. This deep seated mistrust is founded because of the holdless that frequently tried to attack their mining camp. He is slow to make acquaintances and even slower to make friends. Generally, others will approach him many times before he thawed out.

A true child of mining, he prefers cool, dark places. His room is kept as dark as possible; often causing someone unfamiliar with it to stumble over stuff. He values his privacy and will go to extreme lengths to ensure it. Falawny is by nature reclusive. The bedrocks of Benden have helped to put the boy at ease having solid rock around him. Much of his time is spent indoors as he is afraid of too much open sky.

People in positions of high authority, such as Weyrleaders and Lord Holders, have an account of suspicion around them right away. Such people are ambitious and deceitful. To say the least, Falawny doesn’t trust them or their reasons. Oh, he’ll listen and obey, but he’s doubly cautious in his actions and words. He’s slightly more relaxed around lesser leaders as they hold less power, ambition, and authority.

The reason for his deep founded suspicious of the higher up is this: Everyone has an alternative motive behind their actions. He’s not against helping someone reach their goal, as long as there is something in it for him. A bribe goes a long way to sweetening a deal. Of course, one thing about Falawny is he doesn’t always tell the truth, so you never know exactly what you’re getting.

While he isn’t much of a leader, Falawny is good at taking orders and following them to the letter long as they are reasonable. If they don’t meet his standards, then he will ask for an explanation. Don’t expect anything to get done until he is satisfied. When given a task he will personally make sure it gets done. He has a stubborn streak that tends to surface at obscure moments. Determined to get what he wants, he’s not above pestering someone until they give in.

Blue Zurith's Wallow

User Image

Jr. Weyrling, Sr. Weyrling, Adult

Falawnymine, your Zurith is here. Your secrets are safe.

Name: Zurith
Colour: Blue
Stage: Adult
Size: Average
Build: Average

Wing: Dawn Fliers
RP Color: #110049
Inspired by: Azurite
Personality:
For a Blue, Zurith is a relatively secretive and sedate dragon. Not one to get bent out of shape, Zurith can stay calm in even the most stressful situations, although he may display mild disdain for those who cannot. This steady personality has a tendency to help quiet the more easily panicked personalities around him, and he isn't above sparing a firm word or two for a nervous dragon if it will help calm them and stop them from making everyone else around them nervous. He's quiet and keep to himself, content with just his rider for company even if it's from half-way across the weyr. Actually, Zurith is likely the furthest thing from a high maintainance dragon anyone can picture. That's not to say Zurith doesn't want to spend time with his rider; he simply isn't clingy about it. He doesn't mind His spending time with others, although he needs his share of time too, and isn't all that interested in spending time with large groups of dragons himself. One or two others is about his limit if his rider doesn't want him to start getting withdrawn and grumpy, and one of those two is usually Malath, one of the few dragons he can stand for long periods of time. Zurith just likes his space. Although he might grunt and grumble about things in one of these withdrawn moods, he would never shirk his duty or sink so deep into it that he would ignore his rider. As he might put it, he might not stand out like Larth, but that doesn't mean he won't do his best on his share of the work.

When it comes to private information, Zurith is as tight-lipped as a mollusk. He would never tell another dragon about His's business, or his own, and would go so far as to keep information from his rider if he didn't think it was necessary to tell him. Even if it's something he happened to overhear from another dragon, Zurith wouldn't tell his rider unless the other dragon asked, because it's likely something the other pair would rather handle themselves than have Zurith and His butting in on it. Privacy is paramount, and Zurith would never consider betraying someone's privacy, even if it meant it was likely the other person or dragon could put themselves in danger. It's their choice, not his, and he has no right to make that call for them. If his rider tried to pressure him for information he wasn't interested in sharing, Zurith would likely just shut down and go silent unless commanded by a Gold to speak or his rider managed to explain the situation in enough detail to convince Zurith of the direness of the situation.

Zurith will likely make an excellent and accurate Search dragon for Benden. His strong sense of perception means he'll always be able to pick out those who would be suitable as riders-- and those who would not be-- even if he doesn't know he's doing it, and will gravitate towards those people for his rider's sake. This perception also makes him rather uniquely capable of recognizing when a human or dragon isn't behaving like themselves or, in the case of humans, is ill. It wouldn't be unusual for Zurith to notice this discrepancy in a human's health and secretly keep an eye on them in the event that they need assistance in the future.

Why Me?
Falawny's reticence drew Zurith in, as it is a quality Zurith shared with him in spades. He doesn't like big groups, His doesn't like big groups... They'll do just fine with a few other people and each other-- and they won't have to spend all of their time in the same location like some rider-dragon pairs, either. Just the right amount of physical space combined with similar social behaviors and a strong mental bond. Later on, their similarly serious work ethics will help them become a strong pair for the Weyr, be it as just Wingriders or as one of the pairs who doubles as Searchriders as well.

Zurith may not always agree with Falawny's cutthroat, self-serving way of doing things, but he won't question His's way of handling a situation. Falwany is clever, and Zurith values that. What better way to avoid extraneous social interactions or avoid trouble than by having a clever mind?

Admittedly, these two do have some distinct differences, primarily Falawny's utter lack of trust in others. Zurith is not, by nature, a suspicious beast. He just likes his space. His steady, don't-jump-to-conclusions nature can help convince Falawny that he might be a bit more paranoid than necessary when meeting others, and his high amount of natural perception will provide the proof for Falawny that the person can likely be trusted-- or, in some rare cases, confirm that they probably shouldn't be. At the same time, he isn't going to make Falawny feel like a fool; he'll just bluntly explain things in a way that will decrease the amount of paranoia Falawny is experiencing.

However, in Zurith Falawny can find a trustworthy and stalwart companion, one not likely to spill his secrets even by accident. Neither will Zurith share helpful information with Falawny, though, if it's meant to be a secret for someone else. He's just as likely to hoard his information out of hearing of his rider as Falwany is likely to hoard information from everyone else.

Azurite is a soft, deep blue copper mineral produced by weathering of copper ore deposits. It is also known as Chessylite after the type locality at Chessy-les-Mines near Lyon, France. The mineral has been known since ancient times, and was mentioned in Pliny the Elder's Natural History under the Greek name kuanos ("deep blue," root of English cyan) and the Latin name caeruleum. The blue of azurite is exceptionally deep and clear, and for that reason the mineral has tended to be associated since antiquity with the deep blue color of low-humidity desert and winter skies. The modern English name of the mineral reflects this association, since both azurite and azure are derived via Arabic from the Persian lazhward, an area known for its deposits of another deep blue stone, lapis lazuli ("stone of azure").

In Ancient Egypt azurite was considered the secret stone that increased the strength of mind. Azurite can help manage fits of anger, overcome emotional excitement, fear and stress and can help open the Third Eye to increase perception and retaining information. Azurite is able to eliminate "negative" energy.
