Something I'd like everyone to remember is that this is not a huge role play, it is just a world for others to take the information we've come up with [all the logistical stuff] and make modifications of their own if they wish and create their own role play on it.

The world is a mix of magic and technology with an emphasis on magic. Because of the role of elementals in the creation of the world and as it is a basic form of magic, I think most things should have more of an elemental orientation and development. I'm thinking God's should be something of a second base of power and belief, unlike the usual Dungeons and Dragons rp's which takes a fair amount of influence from the God's. I think that this aspect could set our world apart in a fair extent.

One of the roles of the God's and Demons in the world is that because of the detachment of the God's to this world, Rogue God's flee here and hide among mortals. So a race, culture, or religion may worship an Elder God, but disregard some of the lesser God's who are often times found among them either taking a break from their Godly duties or are fleeing them all together. There would also be either priests or paladins or some holy mortal beings searching for these Rogue God's as well as God's who search for those Rogue God's.

For the Technology aspect of the world, I'm leaning towards a steam punk style with gadgets and small combustibles. Things like guns may exist, but because magic has been around longer and is more effective, they aren't very popular among most of the population; though, they do exist. They use Technology as a major source of power to light towns, provide warm water, in places like bars or taverns or highly public places that would take too much energy to run it completely by magic. Though, augmented magic does exist through Technology which may serve as a type of battery. Technology mostly works on extending magic and providing alternatives for things magic is poor in providing.

The overall feeling of the world should be optimistic with a bright elemental kind of shine, power, and mystery about it. The general feeling is of the moment but always looking to an even brighter future. Or maybe, because of the heavy elemental influence, the world is being overloaded with elements from other planes of existence and the people are beginning to see this which could lead to a change in the world...

Now that we have a basic focal point and idea for what the world should look and feel like in the end, I feel much better...Thus far in the collaboration, things seem to be going well.

BoredTears has contributed quite a bit in the area of Races. If she wouldn't mind, I'd like to keep her in charge of that....I think, well I know I deleted a forum you had just posed werewolves in and I didn't get to read it. Sorry, it wasn't moving and I thought something else would happen than having it deleted from the forums...

Neotepid, I would like it if you would focus a bit more on culture, magic, or technology which may help a bit with your idea on your guild idea.

I Stalk Waffles, if you are still in on the collaboration, I'd love you to keep working on the lore section.

Metriath, if you are still interested, you can continue with I Stalk Waffles in the Lore section.

x665, if you are still interested as well, you can continue working on weapons and armor or you can join another section.

Diana Yantra, mostly contacts me through emails, and so she will continue to work with me on magic, world theme [honing it on its own and through everything that is created for the world], battle system, and various aspects that I feel need to be altered.

I will be posting new guidelines at the top of each of the sub-forums with guidelines for the general publications in each topic. If you accept the tasks I've asked of you above, please let me know and tell me what you want from me.
Also, I would like each of you to create a post in the In the Know thread with the appropriate information.

Below are some things that were mentioned to me in a thread in the table top gaming section. I think that they are legitimate things to be noted.
Shadow_Of_The_Heart
It's a double edged sword my friend. It's good for variety, but it can also cause a lot of different ideas to be used, creating a patchwork world instead of a seamless and smooth land. Take it in moderation, and work around the concept of keeping everything as real as possible. Also, conflict could be possible if you let everyone have a say in everything. But if you take control of everything, nobody will be absolutely pleased. It's a fine line to tread, but teamwork pays off well when done right.

I noticed you have some rather solid discussion about races, I would suggest holding off or at least making it a secondary conversation. Think geography, and the world at large. When you get that down, think about the culture of each race before you really build them physically. A race of artistic creatures are less likely to be hulking with large fingers, than have hands capable of dexterous acts.

Also have to work out how magic plays a role in the world. (Also, since you seem interested in an elemental design...) How did the elements create the world? Shall there be waterfalls that flow upward? Do islands float in the sky? Are there fires that burn forever in the world? If the world was created through the elements, then there are likely to be some fantastic shows. Of course, it could be much like our world as well, depending on the type of elementals that exist in your world. A base is best to build on, and think of this, perhaps each race has a connection to a specific element, perhaps simply because of creation, or from some cultural reverence. I am more than willing to input what you need help with, and discuss your ideas to help you flesh them out, just throw them my way, and I'll see what I can do. Talk to others, I'm by no means perfect, I just think a lot about this sort of thing.

I think that he is right about races and building unique cultures first as we can modify races accordingly. I think it will also help in developing a believable world in having a good history and rich culture to each race of people. Click Here to discuss.

And along the lines of nature, I've posted some information in a Nature[general discussion] thread to be looked at and pondered.

This post will change as thing progress, as we get new people, and as new issues or information come to light.

A new way to post information!!

Rather than posting all of your information in one thread so people have to search for it [like in the Lore thread and the Races thread[that I deleted...sorry] I would prefer for each thing to have it's own thread along with brackets[] with the draft number you are on with the race.

ex. In the sub-forums for Races have a thread called Elves[first draft], Dwarves[second draft], and such.

Once this has been done, I will discuss with you things that I think should be changed for the thing to enter into the world and you can make a second draft...This process will continue till we have finalized the material.

I will be deleting thread like the above lore thread and the threads in the races, kingdoms, magic, weapons and armor, ext. after people have moved their thread over or when I get around to moving them myself.

You guys tell me what you think to various answers or if we should add questions to be answered or anything.

- Elemental Heavy
how did they develop?
Elementals are mirrors of the Gods knowledge...they do not feel or understand right from wrong, but they understand life and its ability to thrive. Elementals value life and those whom give life to them.

As the world progresses, Elementals will have influence on the development of the world around the mortal races. If one race treats the Water Elemental with respect it will ensure rains will fill their rivers and feed their crops, that their water mill will run, providing electricity. If they completely ignore an Elemental, that Elemental will simply ignore them while providing them with small amounts of its power. If a race insults an Elemental then the Elemental will be sure to punish them. The Earth Elemental will raise mountains in their way, turn good soil into clay, and prevent them from finding any ores to be smelted.

[[below is just a possibility. It is able to change and probably will]]
The Goddess of Life/Light created the Elementals in an attempt at creating the perfect beings. She knew the Gods were imperfect, each of them had caused the destruction of a world or race or even another God and their Lesser Gods. Tired of seeing death reign even in her own realm, she thought to mirror the Elder God’s intelligence and reflecting their power/beings. In so doing, the world was created in the likeness and material of each Elemental.

what is the relationship between the gods and elementals?
The Elementals are a reflection of the Gods and even have a connection to each of the Gods they reflect. When a God is injured or dies, their reflection is also injured or dies and it goes the other way as well. Because of this connection, the Gods do not feel the need to be present to monitor the world.

why are they more prominent than the gods?
Elementals are prominent on this world because they are the essence of this world. Gods continue to rule the world, but if the elementals die then the world will die; thus, mortals are concerned with the preservation of elementals and the elementals in return grant mortals the ability to channel their infinite power.

The gods could feel threatened by the elementals and wish to destroy them; while, rogue gods could be those who go against the will of the gods and either align with the elementals or mortals. Rogue gods could do this because they wish to gain power through the alliance with the elementals or they care for the world or the mortals who live on the world...

can they be controlled?
Because Elementals are mirrors of the Elder Gods themselves, Elementals cannot be controlled by anyone but the Elder God they are a mirror of; however, I like the idea of mortals being able to control a small portion of an Elemental. This could be possible through the use of the punished Rogue Gods material being or because the Elemental has left a portion of itself or forgotten a part of itself and a mortal has taken it or has been given it.

- Gods Relations
who are the gods?
The Elder Gods are beings who have progressed through many stages of existence and are far beyond the state of the mortal plane/world. Like the Elementals who live in planes of their element which is uninhabitable to mortals, the Elder Gods live in a plane uninhabitable to mortals or even the Elementals.

Because there are many stages of existence before becoming an Elder God, there are many levels of Godhood. Even if one were to make it to the level of a Lesser God it is excruciatingly hard getting any further than that; thus, there are only 9 Elder Gods to have ever of existed. One of which is thought to have died.

where are the gods?
They exist on a plane of which is far removed from the Material plane and the Mortal world. Because the Elementals live on a plane of existence which is closer, they have more influence upon the world and care more than those Elder Gods. Pi-on Gods and Lesser Gods care more about the world as well.

how do the gods fit in?
The Gods are the reason the World exists and without them, the world would cease to exist. The world is built upon the Elementals and the Elementals are mirrors of the Elder Gods; thus the Gods are still the essence of the world while being separate from it.

why and how do gods go rogue?
The number one reason for Gods to go Rogue is due to the impossibility of raising above their lesser God status. No God has been added to the ranks of an Elder God in almost an eternity, and the last Elder God to be adopted into the ranks was killed by the other Elder Gods.

Another common reason is that lesser Gods are used heavily and often get no reward for their labors; thus, some will take a leave of absence which is considered to be turning ones back on your position which makes one unworthy of it as well. There are times when lesser Gods may manage to leave their post and return without the Elder Gods knowing; though other lesser Gods may be able to blackmail them if they know...mortals may use it as leverage as well...

how often does this happen?

It happens rather regularly with the Lesser Gods while less and less
frequently with Gods of higher position.

what are the effects upon this world?
When these Rogue Gods are found and punished, they are left behind as items or magic to be possessed and used by mortals. Unusual forms of magic and powers come into the hands of mortals as Rogue Gods grant morals wishes or promises to keep quiet or because the mortal gave something useful to the Rogue God.

how does this affect the relation between gods and mortals?
Rogue Gods are seen as blessings and curses to the Mortal races. If an Elder Gods knows a mortal has helped a Rogue God then they are punished, or cursed; however, if the Elder Gods do not find out then the mortal is blessed by the Rogue God.

This relationship brings Gods overall closer to the world of Mortals.

who are the searchers?
The Searchers are either lesser Gods trying to get onto better terms with the Elder Gods or mortals who have been granted the powers of hunting Rogue Gods.

Discussions and Summaries:

I left an open option at the end of the world so we could discuss what might lead to a broader world of role play for our target audience [DM's/GM's/Mods]. Or if there is anything else dealing with the above, feel free to discuss it.

No discussion yet...

How deep do we want to elaborate on the information above? Do we just want to create with that idea in mind so there is more freedom or should we narrow some things down and leave other things broad?

No discussion as of yet...

If you have any questions about guidelines or ideas or just want to discuss something, feel free to either pm me or send me a message in this thread. Or if you have a request to be moved to another subject or you would like another person to be added to your section, this would be the place to request and to look to see if there is someone looking for help.

Lastly, what do you want from me in way of support or any other aspect. PLEASE let me know so I can help rather than just give my two cents and leave the rest to you.

I, for one, think we should elaborate to the fullest extent all that we can. This way, the person can know everything instead of wondering about anything that they may get tripped up on. Not only that, but also when they're done, they can decide for themselves what they want to add or include. The point of explaining everything is for them to get the whole idea of the point of the certain section, so they would be less likely to think that it's completely unnecessary from a lack of understanding or use it inappropriately from, once again, a lack of understanding.

I agree that everything should be elaborated to an extent to which anyone who reads whatever it is can understand where they were coming from and where they think creator will be going with it...Was there anything specifically that you feel we need explained more at the moment?

As for knowing when things are done and what people are working on, that's what the In The Know thread is about on the front page. Everyone who is working on anything should post it there and let people know when they have posted anything there as well. Also, as things are completed I'll be posting things here in a completed section.

Announcement on my end... I am swamped with school, life, finals, and several labs that I am behind on and only have the next two weeks to get it all done. So, I'm going to be out for a bit. I guess this is called a short hiatus. Sorry sad

Alright, I just want to thank both of you for your patience with me and my slowness and dis-organization. But now I hope to get back on track. mrgreen

So, not that i am back, BoredTears, is the magic section defined well enough for races? I hadn't thought about how vital magic was in creating the foundational races, but after being away from the forums for a while, I've had some time to think about it and it's super important for creating an original world with unique races ans settings. Thus, my first steps, now that I'm back, is to attempt to finalize much of the magic. I'll be defining just a bit in the technology stuff as I think some races are going to be geared more towards a culture involving that.

After that, I'll be going through the races section and either re-vamping sections to be more usable and concrete for dm/gm's and players or will be offering up suggestions or ideas about the races. After a bit of discussion, I'm hoping we can start making a transition into cultures surrounding these races. I'm thinking that we should be able to do at least most of this by the new year as, I'm assuming, most of us will be done with school for at least a short time. From there, we can discuss what goals we will have for the new year.

Also, what do we think about the idea of a spiritual type race...I don't think that's the best way to describe it, but it's the only way I can think of right now. Anyways, the idea is that there are people born in every race, culture, and peoples born with specific features that identify them as having this extra 'spiritual type race': their eyes may have some feature or some kind of marking on the skin or with the hair. This spiritual race does not come because ones parents or grand parents or their religion or anything, it's just something that comes somewhat randomly.I've thought about why such a reace would exist and what things are involved in being such a person born of the race and such, but I'm just wondering if either of you think it would contribute to the world as a whole for dm's and gm's and players. Because I'm not totally sure about this one.

I think that everything we post should answer that question: Does whatever I'm contributing to the world add to the world in a positive way to allow DM's and GM's and Players to have a fun and unique experience. (just a thought)
PostPosted: Sat Dec 18, 2010 9:58 pm

Honestly I don't know how much free time I am going to have before the new year. It appears that the people around me are coming down with a cold, which if they do get sick means that I will be soon to follow, because I catch colds like a sail catches wind.

I'm also having issues dealing with the people in my life right now. Someone close to me died recently, and I, um, don't have those emotions. Which makes it awkward to deal with people who think I do, or the people who are experiencing them. This has resulted in a bunch of crap which has been both time consuming and mentally exhausting.

Oh and, I have not been able to write lately because of a lack of cohesion in my creativity. I have come up with a great many ideas, just none of them seem to apply to things I am trying to work on. Hopefully that will go away when I no longer have to worry about someone having a mental breakdown, or have people worrying that I am going to have a mental breakdown.

I might be able to force myself to sit down and write something useful, but I'm not sure I will actually get enough time to myself to do so. That is because to do so, I typically need about three hours to myself, which though I can normally get, as of late my schedule has been dictated by the people around me, with myself having little control over it.

So about the magic, I think so, well not for the spiritual race you just suggested, and I think I could use some more work on Immaterial Magic to help me when it comes to the naga, though it would have more to do with culture than other things. If we are going to do a spiritual race, we have some questions we need to answer about the setting, such as, what are souls? what exactly happens when you die? How do souls interact with your body and the material plane? And what of spiritual or soul based magic?

As for that spiritual race, I like the idea, we could even come up with multiple spiritual races. As for it helping the people using the setting, such a thing could make it easier to come up with plots. Although such plots would likely become cliché for the setting. I have other things to say about it, but my mind isn't quite up to turning thoughts into understandable writing.
