What I posted earlier were just ideas, but I've defined a few of them in a more concrete form. I may add more later. If you have a definition for a type of magic you would like to be used on the world feel free to post them. Also, we should decide on what magic should be called if we want it called something other than magic...
Divine Magic is bestowed by a being of power, namely the Gods. The power comes from a single God rather than any of the planes of existence. This magic is slightly unpredictable in its outcomes and limited to the will of the God one worships who provides them with their grace and power. If the God or Goddess believes the worshiper being graced by their power and divine magic is not worshiping them properly or that they are straying from the path, said god may withdraw their powers.
Elemental Magic is pulled from the energy of other planes of existence where each of the plainer elements exist. Each of the outer planes has a loose connection to the material plane where energy from that plane pulses or resonates through that loose yet close connection. A user must learn to detect that pulsation or energy and channel it into a useful form to be used on the material plane. Users may become skilled in detecting and channeling these loose or close connections between the planes where energy comes through stronger or learn to pull a portion of an elemental plane close enough for the user to create a spell; however, such skill in one elemental magic has detrimental effects upon the user.
Those who become too attuned with a single elemental plane take on strange features of said plane which makes living on the Material plane both painful and are shunned throughout most societies as they know such a person is power hungry and often times too aligned with another plane to be trusted. If a user continues to dabble in magic of said plane they have a real possibility of having to find a way to enter the other plane to simply survive.
Immaterial Magic comes from life and things which exist upon the material plane. Every living thing has a power which expels from it, both a life source and an energy from their emotions, deeds, and thoughts. Each energy has something of the same key as a musical piece, but half of the notes reflect life energy and half coming from the second energy. Both energies can be used to power specifically formulated spells giving different outcomes for the same spell depending upon the line of Immaterial Magic they are able to grasp and pull into the spell. The second line is easier to pull from and to generate. Outstanding or great deeds provide greater amounts of second line energy, those deeds which are nefarious or evil also generate the second line of energy. So the energy essentially has an alignment which will effect the spell being casted. Life energy may also be used either though a willing provider, who will become weak or die according the pull of the life energy which sustains them or through the outright capture of a persons energy. According to the life which was lived, the alignment they are classified by magic and the gods themselves, it will effect the spell being cased just as much.
