Nightwhispers & Dreamwalking This is where I'll probably go more into his personality. I love digging out all the little things that make a good toon tick, flinch, yelp in pain, and hide from me. Of course I just drag them out and play with them more.
Personality: Thibault is wary of his surroundings all the time. He trusts very few people and then only after he has known them for awhile. But once his loyalty has been won, it is certain unless betrayed in some way. He is very straight forward and brash in that once he makes his choice, he does not hesitate in his actions but follows it through until the end. What you see is what you get and the consequences have always been calculated into his choice. He never says anything he does not mean though he is not overtalkative, and if something needs done, then he will do it without asking and he never second-guesses his decision once made.
Thibault does not smile often but if he presents a person with a silent grin, it is unusual and means he likes that person a great deal. Teebo, as some of the other street kids called him, has an uncanny aptitude for seeing danger that others often overlook and he has a tendency to remove it instead of waiting on it. This can lead him to being very calculating and logical about his plan of attack on any situation that quite often gets him into the thick of things and in trouble though he never backs down from the choice he has made. His choices are usually based in logic rather than feelings or emotions. He does not know how to deal with emotions and will walk away from someone having a temper tantrum or fit, if he does not deal with it in a harsher way.
He will find that he likes to train and enjoys the feeling it gives him to know his skill is improving. The problem will be to pull him away from it to keep him from overdoing it.
His one pet peeve is that Thibault cannot stand someone who whines and he will go out of his way to avoid someone who constantly whines or tries to buy their way. He does not like spoiled people, his own family included, but a part of him understands that there is only value on a person if that is desired to be so. His oldest sister was married for status, while his older brother is heir and expected to act appropriately. He is quite certain both his younger sisters will be bartered in some way for his father's status.
He does like to find a quiet place and read when he has free time. And he will choose to sit alone rather than look for company. Not simply for his chosen profession, but also because he does not know how to deal with emotions and prefers to shut away the things that threaten.

The Family Desmarais That has an ominous feel to it, doesn't it? My intention.
From the age of 13 until 16, Thibault lived on the streets. He seldom, if ever, talks of his family and anyone who asks, he quite often walks away from. He prefers Alain to his given name of Thibault when someone speaks to him, but generally he ends up Thibault, pronounced Tyeh-bou, or even Teebo depending on who he is around. If he would have had his choice of names, Teebo would have gone with Xavier, which he heard during a conversation once thinking it was an interesting name. He may very well use Xavier as the trademark of his job so that Alain may keep his privacy when not working.
The Desmarais were not one of the wealthiest families, but they did live comfortably. He is the middle son of and very often got lost in the shuffle. Gerard Desmarais is a decent architect though not well-known. His work is more often incorporated into the designs of better known architects with little recognition of his achievements. As a result of his dissatisfaction with his job, Gerard became a heavy drinker, quite often taking his ire out on his family. Thibault, in particular, drew his father's attention with his refusals to be what his father wanted him to be. Thibault was certain that Gerard expected him to be as his sister and a simple barter to more status. He planned to stop it before it happened.
One day not long after turning thirteen, Thibault simply walked away. He packed a bag of a few minor possessions, took some money from his father, and quite casually began to live on the streets. He figured they would not notice and he felt he was better off on his own than with his family. The boy never looked back, though from time to time, he does see his married older sister, Chantal Laroche. At first she tried to talk him into going back, but eventually just left him on his own after he promised to come to her if he needed anything. He never has and probably never will, having no regret for leaving his family to be on his own.
The day before he was taken by the priests as a sacrifice, Thibault was in the streets looking for work. As he walked towards the docks, he saw a girl accosted by some men at the opening of an alleyway. There were many people around, but they all looked away as if it were of no concern to them. Shaking his head, the boy tried to get the men to leave the girl alone. He knew once he began he could not stop. The men were the type that would hunt him down. His choice made, he moved forwards.
The first one he hit with a wooden board, breaking the man's arm. Of course, all this did was draw their attention to him. The second he hit over the head, splintering the board as the man's head cracked open. With the first unconscious, the second holding his head and moaning, the last guy left pulled a knife. Only the boy's speed saved him as he moved around the man, causing him to lose his knife in the scuffle that followed. Without hesitation, Thibault scooped up the blade stabbing the fellow in the chest as the girl ran for help.
He had gotten lucky. There is no other word for it because the man lay dead, his own knife in his chest. Thibault was unscathed. The girl forgotten, Thibault turned pulling the knife free and wiping it on the man's own clothing. A quick flick of his wrist and he had sliced the throats of the other two men lying helpless on the ground. He turned to move away, glancing warily around only to find a guard and a priest watching his actions. After a few words with him, they escorted him to his sister's residence. where the guard remained to ensure that the boy stay with his family. The next day they were all to come to the temple to take care of the matter. The priest assured them, stating that they had the girl's words to witness what had happened. Untrusting, Thibault knew he had no choice but to go along. It was the logical option for him.
Admitting to killing them in self-defense, Thibault showed absolutely no remorse for taking the three lives to his sister or anyone else. As far as he was concerned, the fellows had deserved it all. The priest chose Thibault as a sacrifice the next day. As he left, Thibault Desmarais never once looked back at his family. There was no regret, no remorse, and no guilt within him for the things he had done in his life and he was already calculating a way to get what he wanted as he walked away, thinking he could find a way out of the hands of the priests.
Gerard Desmarais - Father Maryse Roux Desmarais - Mother Chantel Desmarais Laroche - elder sister. She may be a sore point for him later. Still unsure about that. Etienne Desmarais - elder brother, This brother may be a point of interest for him later also especially if he has to get him out of some sort of trouble. Armaments
Yes... by this time, you understand I hate boring titles for things.. hence the No Man's Land, etc. XD
His appearance is not really complicated. All that I post here are suggestions- I repeat... suggestions... I do not like to be confined in my art when I am creating something and that is one thing I hate to do to other artists. Feel free to do what you see from what he is portrayed to be.
Suggestions for physical looks... No, I did not sketch him. I have an idea of what he looks like, but I do not like to restrict the artwork of others. And yes, I know.. I said that already. XD It's worth repeating.
Hair color is rather streaked from medium brown, sandy, as well as reddish tones. His hair is probably medium length and messy from living on the streets but quite honestly, I think the priests would change the clothing and cut hair on all the children to make them look similar for training in the beginning. So I would say he should have short hair, not exactly a crewcut but short enough that it did not cover the ears or fall too far into the eyes.
His eyes are silver but stormy gray when angry and he has a constant wariness in his expression as if he sees something others do not.
His body build is lean and narrow but strong as most Fieren are. He is medium tanned from being on the streets and stands at 5'7" at 16. By the time his full height is reached, he will be about 5'10-11".
As he ages and changes, I could see his hair getting longer, more shaped to fit the standard norm of most boys his age according to the culture of not only where he is but also Fieren. Eventually I could see his hair more shoulder length but neat, though I'm sure if the pattern is set for shorter hair, that would be his norm.
As for his clothing, I thought alot about this also. I'm sure his first set of clothing would be basics and match whatever the priests deemed suitable in the beginning for what he is being trained for. As he progresses, he might be given more leeway for clothing and armor. I see light leather armor and clothing very undefined and of lower quality than if he had the money and quality the rich would be able to attain.
As for his final set of clothing, I did look at the Assassin's Creed clothing and various other sets of armor and gear. Not sure they fit entirely. I mean he would want to look like a person on the street, general armor though quality could be hidden behind a disguise of dirt or a cloak, etc. Or even as a man of quality walking down the street but nothing noticeable. I'm going to leave this up to the artist for now and what happens as his story unfolds. I can't say that it would be logical to walk through an area as the video game does and I would like to stay away from that and go more non-descript to keep it more realistic.
References.... These are only suggestions also.
I like this one's eyes as well as the leather armor he wears. It is my fave as it is simple and basic- what any mercenary, soldier, assassin, etc. would wear without drawing attention to themselves if they had a robe or cloak over it. People would not look twice at him at a young age I do not think. Clothing #1
I rather like this one for the cloak and portrayal but I'm sure he would not have such shiney armor on him because it would draw attention to him. The attitude is nice in the gear. Clothing #2
This one I think more of as something he would wear as an adult if he is affiliated with a group. The church and priests could very well uniform their people in things like this with small personal differences in weapons or color or even how pouches, belts, etc are worn. Although they would want them to blend into their surroundings well whether receiving orders or acting on orders. Clothing #3
I know Assassins will be using knives, but those trained as soldiers might also wear a longer blade simply for direct fighting to get out of situations when or if they get caught. I'm sure some will. Just as ninja assassins wear katanas, Fieren assassins might wear a more rapier style blade also. Just in case... lol. I do like to be prepared. Swords
These were basically in the style and pattern of what I think would be used. There might even be special daggers that are used that identify the assassin as one of a certain group. Daggers
