She's got a good point. A catty b***h who's DEPICTED as a b***h is a better role model than a self-absorbed b***h who's depicted as being nearly flawless.

Quote: "Among the cringe-worthy morals of this story: When you're in love, the only thing that matters in life is your man. If you get dumped, your life is over, so feel free to act suicidal to get him back. Even if he tells you he never wants to see you again, manipulation and game-playing are effective ways to get his attention. Your friends are only ornaments; just kick them to the curb when he comes back." They hit the nail on the head with that one. Exactly the message that Twilight sends out.

Jerba My favorite quote: "The female protagonist swears, drinks, has sex and kills people, sure, but I'd still pick her as a better role model for teenaged girls than Bella Swan any day." Thats my favorite quote, too.

A very well-written and enjoyable article. I remember how it was in high school, or more of middle school because when I first read Twilught, it reminded me of my time in middle school more than inhigh school. But I remember everything being extreme back then, and I remember being that way too about things. Sure I was an emotionally distraught teen that took things too literally, but I can safely say that I was never suicidal when it came to being rejected by a guy. Sure if my then crush didn't reciprocate the feelings I had for them at the time, I'd mope and brood, thinking or saying things such as, "Oh I'm never going to love again" or "I feel like I could just die because Trevor doesn't like me"! But I was never suicidal and thought, "Ohmigod Trevor doesn't like me! My life is over! I'm going to kill myself now" because I wasn't stupid and I knew that my life wasn't worth ending over something like that.
But like Simmons said, "This is a generation raised on Bratz, cell phones and low-rise jeans. They've been told that being empowered is about shopping, looking sexy and being catty". It's like the majority of girls growing up now have this warped sense of reality. Being catty will make you popular, looking "sexy" consists of dressing like a streetwalker, so it's no wonder they're taking the "When you're in love, the only thing that matters in life is your man. If you get dumped, your life is over, so feel free to act suicidal to get him back. Even if he tells you he never wants to see you again, manipulation and game-playing are effective ways to get his attention" message to heart. I mean come on, if a group of teenage girls in highschool are going to form a pact to all get pregnant at the same time because Jamie Lynn Spears was pregnant, of course they're going to become suicidal in order to get back the guy that dumped them.
I don't really agree with the whole idea of "Bella's not mean" though. In a sense, she's as bad as the catty girl Angela. She severs all ties with her friends because Edward orders her too. She snubs the attention of Eric, Mike, and Tyler because they're not breath-takingly beautiful like Edward, and she puts her friend Jessica in danger of almost getting raped so she can "hear" Eddykin's voice in her head. Girls desperately need a new female rolemodel that's not the Bellas, Mileys, Paris', Jamie Lynn Spears' out there.
