Guild Rules
Harry Says: "These are the RULES! Follow them or face the wrath of Professor Adonis!"
If we catch you disobeying any of these once, you will most likely get a warning and/or the taking of house points. Repeat offenses may result in banning. Watch what you do, please.
Follow Gaia TOS Our format is original; any copying of our ideas will result in you being reported to an admin! NO SPAM OR REPEAT THREADS! If you want to advertise your gaia store, arena stuff, etc. post it in the Student Message Board (SMB). Read the Announcement in each subforum before posting Every subforum has one. Respect the crew members! Do not argue with them if they have deleted your thread or post. If you need an explanation, inquire respectfully. You may ask in the Suggestions, Feedback, & Questions (SFQ) if you like. Keep everything PG-13. You are expected to post! Make at least 5 posts a month, and you're safe. You will be banned if you are gone for 2-3 months and don't notify your Head of House or post in the Student Message Board. The ban is only temporary though, if you find yourself banned, you can come back when you're active again. The Filing Cabinet offers the most information about our Banning Process.0-4 Total Posts gets banned after one month of inactivity5+ Posts gets 2 monthsAll Sorted Students get 3 months (To check if you're in danger of banishment and for more about the banning process, check The Filing Cabinet) All guild members must post in the appropriate font color. Moderators use these fonts to keep track of your sorted status. Brown is my colour, so if you see any brown posts, you'll know it's important wink Check the following list if you're not sure which font to use:
House-elves:Indigo, default, & Purple Gryffindors: Shades of red Ravenclaws: shades of blue Hufflepuffs: shades of Orange & Bolded black (default does NOT look black for everyone, use the bbcode please) Slytherins: shades of Green Graduates: The colour of their former house. If you ever change your user name or decide to quit, PM one of the Mods or post a 'shout' in the Student Message Board. All new members start as house elves. You have to earn your sorted status by making enough posts. Please don't complain, we want an active guild, we put a lot of time into this guild and we expect a small effort on your part as well. For more information on House-elves, visit The Giggling Pear. If you are sorted into a house you don't like, don't complain! Just try to earn your house lots of points, and have fun! You may not get in the house you want, and I'm sorry but that's just the way it works! Respect your fellow guild members. Harassment is not tolerated inside this guild.
Main Forum Rules
Do NOT post in the Entrance Hall This thread is for special announcement posts ONLY. If you wish to make a comment on an announcement, post your thoughts in the SFQ Do not make a new thread here without a Head's permission You are welcome to post in the other pre-existing threads. Unauthorized threads will be moved or deleted, and the person will receive an official warning.

House Elves and Students
Now, you must understand, our Hogwarts is not just made up of students! We have many different titles at Hogwarts. The two basic positions are house-elves and students.

House Elf Information
So, who are house elves? House-elves are the newest members of the guild OR members of this guild who haven't been sorted. That means you are a house elf until you meet the requirements to be sorted, and until you log on during a sorting week to get sorted. House elves are restricted in a few activities and they cannot earn house points. But there's a lot of other things they can do! They can post, write for the Hogwarts Monthly, participate in Guild Events (there is usually a separate thread just for elves, however they are not limited to it), they can participate in Elf Classes (Cleaning and Cooking), and they can promote guild loyalty (very important). The idea is that we'd like you to gain some Guild pride before you boast your house pride, since there are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin houses in most other Harry Potter guilds. Don't see this as a limitation, see it as an opportunity to RP as a character you wouldn't have ever considered using before! 3nodding
For more information on House-Elves (including information about the Head Elf), visit the Giggling Pear, the unofficial common room for house-elves. All NEW MEMBERS are required to post in the Giggling Pear at least once so we can make sure you've read important information
Student Information
Students make up another majority of the guild. They do everything a normal student would do, take classes, do homework, put up with the teachers xd , but they also try to earn their house points that can lead to their victory in winning the House Cup, participate in the guild's activities, play Quidditch, test their trivia at the Dueling Club, and all kinds of neat stuff! Once you're sorted, you can also apply to teach a class or become a prefect/deputy head/moderator. Students also fill important (non-mod) positions in the guild such as Dueling Club Instructor, Hogwarts Monthly Editor, the Game Master, and any other special position moderators need. So, if you want to be a student, it would be very wise to read all the information below. 3nodding 3nodding
Requirements to become a student:
You have to have been in the guild for at least three weeks before the sorting week starts.. You have to have a minimum of 30 posts. Keep in mind that making 30 posts in Spinner's End does not count!
You must take the Sorting Hat test to find out which house you are in, found here: Sorting Hat
Note: Students are the only ones who can take regular classes! Remember, elves can only take classes specified for house elves.

House Points!
Help your house earn points so they can win the House Cup! But be careful. There are also ways that you can lose points.

These are some of the various ways you can earn house points:
Doing work in class will be between 5-20 points. (Just check the point system in each class) Dueling Club! The number of points varies on this. Recruiting members! For every member you recruit you get 10 points!!! (whether they are accepted or not) (Just make sure when they join they say you brought them here! And yes, it must be said in the application, not after the fact.) Making a banner that you can put in your signature will get you points for your house! (Point amounts may vary) Be an avid poster!Student Awards:Most posts this term: 50 points + Thank You Letter (MC)10k in gold will go to the top posts for the term from each house. (that means the top poster will receive a Thank You Letter and 10k!) House with most posts per student this term (averaged): 20 points House with most posts this term: 20 points Write for the Hogwarts Monthly Every submission you make can earn you 10 points! Be an outstanding student! You could earn your house points just by being above and beyond enough for a teacher, mod or prefect to notice you! Be active, show house pride and spirit, help new students or members, and be helpful!
The Hour Glasses are conveniently located in the Care-Taker's Office:
The current points are in the first post, you can't miss it.

Unfortunately there are also ways to lose your house points...
Breaking rules. The amount of points and the possible subject of banishment will depend on the severity of your rule breaking. (Yes, being rude is breaking a rule and so is giving the mods or other leadership members a hard time) Being mean to the House Elves. I realize this could have fit in above but there is nothing I hate more than rudeness to the elves. You can lose up to 50 points from your house. (Yes I hate it that much) Because they're new you shouldmake them feel welcomed so our guild can grow!. Failing to type in your house color. Any Head/Mod, Teacher, Prefect, or even Dueling instructor has the ability to dock 5 points for each offense. Going into other common rooms. I know we can't track if you just look, but each post in a foreign common room will cost you 20 house points. Exception is for Mods only and only if its for a moderation purpose (we can't all keep track of our common rooms sometimes). Use the Student Message Board to make announcements, or use the Great Hall if you're trying to advertise your class.

Quick Review of the Various Sub-Forums
The Care Taker's OfficeThis forum is specifically here to keep the rest of the guild tidy. Here is where you go to ask questions, complain, make suggestions, and figure out just about anything. If you are confused or lost, you're best bet is going here first. The thread you probably need most in this forum would be the Suggestions, Feedback, & Questions (SFQ) thread. This subforum is also home to the Hogwarts Monthly Editor's office. Another important thread in the Office would be the the Hour Glasses, which is the official House Points Count. It's also where one would go to either add or subtract points. Around HogwartsThis forum is our role-play forum, and probably our most active forum in the guild. The four common rooms are in this forum. This forum is also the home of a few other various role-plays and opportunities. A good thread to meet people is The Great Hall; however elves should note that they may only enter the Great Hall on the pretense of cleaning. The home of our elves would be the Giggling Pear, which is the school kitchens. The Halls of LearningThis is the home of all of our classrooms, you are free to roleplay in these threads along with our main RP forum. This is just separate so members may find their courses with greater ease. Elves get a class also! This is also the home of the Staff Room and clubs (Dueling Club!). All sorted members should note that you must apply and be approved to be a teacher. Visit Alutian's Welcome thread for more information. Beyond Hogwarts [Under Construction]This forum is currently under construction. More information will be released in the future. If you have any opinions/questions about this, I suggest you post them in the S.F.Q. Heard it in the Hallway This is our discussion forum. Want to make a thread about a plot theory or discuss which book is your favorite or even eggs? This is the forum to be in! Be sure to stop by Junimaia's Guidelines for Discussion before you do anything else though. Another popular thread would be the Official Chat Off-Topic thread, where members can chat about whatever whenever they like. Spinner's EndThis is our games forum. Where you can play situation games, word-association games, and much, much more! Just be sure to look at the Game Master's Message Board before you begin playing. Event ForumEvery month or so, the guild usually has an event of some sort. When this happens, the event will be held here. The title of the forum will often change, as well as an announcement will be made in this thread when an event is being held, so don't worry about checking it constantly. Right now a lot of our previous events are in this subforum. We also accept feedback here. The White TombThis forum holds all our memorable threads from days gone by. It is here mostly for sentimental reflection on all the things we've been through. It's history! This subforum is also home to the Trophy Room

Guild Authority Ranks
Wondering how things work in the guild authority-wise? I (Professor Adonis) own the guild, which makes me the Headmaster. However, I am mostly the guild figurehead. The Mod Squad not only helps update the guild and keeps it moving, but also anything else you can imagine (that I can't). The Mod Squad is my special name for the moderators and Heads in HPGoG. These members are the most trusted members of HPGoG, and I love them dearly.
Official Guild Authority Ranks Heads of HouseThere is one Head for each division of HPGoG (the house-elves and the four Houses). No House will ever have more than one, no House will ever have less. These five members (together) have supreme authority over all matters in the guild. Don't argue with them. Next to me, a Head's word is final. On a happy note, the Heads are the most trustworthy people in the guild. The Heads are always willing to hear your suggestions and answer your questions. The Heads of House are Aunt Slappy, ApostleOfTheWind13, Elpidius Elon, vivacious_red, and techpriest35 ModeratorsModerators are members who are not Heads, but have Crew powers. If they have crew powers, they have them for a reason. Their main job is to help the Heads with whatever needs to be done. Moderators are chosen by Guild Heads when needed. The Current Mod(s) are Stardust Disaster Deputy HeadThis is the highest position after the Mods/Heads. There is one for each House, chosen by its Head of House. If the Head of House is unavailable, the Deputy Head is there to help to fill in. That means when the Head is not available, Deputy Heads have all the authority in their House. They are able to do the same things as prefects. House elves do not have DHs because house-elves are new members! Deputy Heads for this term are The Queen Lana, and Animekitty47. and Mothette x Prefects Syreyn and Riku Masen.Prefects are the third highest authority after crew status and Deputy Heads. If, for instance, the Head of House and Deputy Head are on an absence, the prefect will take over. That way you'd always have a dedicated member taking care of your House. They help keep the guild spam-free, and report behavior problems. Prefects also have the ability to take away house points for those who don't follow rules. However, Mods still have the power to overrule point-docking punishments. To become a prefect/deputy head, you have to show some leadership in the guild in some sort of way, or just help out a lot, give us some new ideas, and you must be very active! We only choose prefects who we believe deserve it.

Current Crew Information:
Professor Adonis (Captain/Headmaster) vivacious_red (Crew/Head Elf) Aunt Slappy (Crew/Hufflepuff Mod) Elpidius Elon (Crew/Gryffindor Mod) ApostleOfTheWind13 (Crew/Ravenclaw Mod) techpriest35 (Crew/Slytherin Mod) Stardust Disaster (Crew)
The moderators in this guild are very important people! Everyone must respect them. They work a lot like the Gaian mods do; they can delete threads and posts, create stickies and announcements, invite and ban people to the guild, that sort of thing.
Here are just some of the crew's duties:
Accepting members to the guild!
Just make sure they have the essentials. And make sure they have at least 4 good sentences. I think you all have good judgment, so I trust that you will only accept good join requests. (Oh, and make sure they mention "I hate canary creams!" If they don't, they're not coming in!)
Deleting spam threads!
Repeat threads or threads that just waste space in the guild need to be gone! We don't need them messing up our beautiful guild.
Reporting misconduct in the guild!
Someone being disrespectful to other members, spamming, or not following the rules! Or, in some cases, it may get so out of hand that the user needs to be banned. So far, most of our members have been kind and sweet, so we don't usually deal with that.
Updating!!!!
Whether it be adding house points, planning guild events, adding members to the student list who post in the intro sticky, or whatever, if it needs to be updated, they go ahead and update it! Personally, I don't have the best memory, and I need lots of help to keep everything up to date.

Teachers and Special Positions The best thing about HPGoG is our motto "Every member has a voice." Members are always encouraged to post their thoughts in the SFQ. Sometimes that's just not enough for certain members. Since the Mod Squad can only do so much, I created special (non-moderator) positions in the guild available to sorted members that want to take that extra step to make the guild grow smile
Special Positions in the Guild Updated November 11, 2011
The Game Master is the overseer of the Spinners End subforum. He/She helps keep the games updated, accept submissions for new games, and notify Heads when needed. This person is allowed use of the Game Master 2626 mule for purposes in Spinners End only. Game Master: vivacious_red
The Keeper of the Lists is the biggest help to the Mod Squad when it comes to the Filing Cabinet and sortings. This position may require mod powers, so only truly dedicated, proven members will get this position. Keeper of the Lists: vivacious_red
Hogwarts Monthly Editor is one of the most important student positions. This person helps organize and publish our guild's monthly newspaper The Hogwarts Monthly. He/She also responds to feedback in the Editors Office. Hogwarts Monthly Editor(s): Aunt Slappy
Dueling Club Instructor(s) are the champions of the guild's first club: Dueling Club. Lead Instructor: Instructor(s): techpriest35
If interested in applying for the Dueling Club please see this thread for details. Otherwise, PM Professor Adonis.
Teachers
Right now the best way to earn house points is by taking classes! Visit the Halls of Learning and learn everything you need to know about teaching at HPGoG! Teachers must be sorted members.

Graduates/Honorary Members

Please note: we are still improving this feature of our guild! Some members of our beloved guild have been active and faithful long enough to become Graduates (or Honorary Members). All graduates are automatically Honorary Members. Graduates also get their own spot in an area Beyond Hogwarts (currently under construction) Graduates (and Honorary Members) get all the benefits of sorted members (except being able to earn house points!). Some of our notable Honorary Members include Pinkie (the first Guild Captain), Grey Temerity (the first graduate), and many, many others. There's a thread (currently under-construction) about our Guild's History (including names of Honorary Members). Read it whenever you have time.

F.A.Q.
If you have read the Giggling Pear and Welcome Letter, but you are still confused, then I hope this helps some. If you have a question you think should be up here, PLEASE PM it to me. It would be lots of help. Thanks!
Ok, I'm new! And I'm so lost!!! What do I do first? Read the Welcome Letter and the Giggling Pear first. If you're still confused, PM the Head Elf (IceeWitch) or another moderator. They will be happy to help!
I looked in the Guild members list, and it says I'm a NON-MEMBER! What's going on? It's a common glitch in Gaia guilds. HPGoG is a private guild which means only members can post. If you can still post, then don't worry. It should fix itself in a few hours. Bannings are always given with explanations, so if you didn't get one, you weren't banned.
What does HPGoG, SFQ, SMB, etc. mean? Those are all abbreviations for common places related to the guild. HPGoG = Harry Potter Guild of Gaia U/C = Under Construction SFQ = Suggestions, Feedback, and Questions SMB = Student Message Board If you see a word/abbreviation that you don't recognize, just ask.
Is it okay to create a new thread? Read any stickies/announcements concerning new topics in each subforum, if there are any. If this subject is not addressed, you need permission from me before creating a new topic in that area. If you're unsure where your topic goes, please ask me or post your concern in the SFQ.
What on earth is going on? I'm so confused...help... crying The Suggestions, Feedback, & Questions (S.F.Q.) thread is always open for your questions. All of the moderators and HPGoG savvy members frequent that thread, and your question will be answered swiftly.
What house am I in? Where do I get sorted!?! Go to the Sorting Hat thread, check to see if you meet the requirements, and then answer the questions to the quiz when you're eligible. After you post, check back in a few days to see where you've been sorted.
If I don't like what house I'm in, can I switch? No, if you were truly meant to be in your favorite house, then you will be. The quiz decides. Try to have fun with your house. I believe all houses are equal. Just because Harry was in Gryffindor, that doesn't necessarily make it the best house. There are good people in each house, including Slytherin, so you shouldn't feel bad about being in a certain one! (And anyone who argues with that can talk to me... stare )
I've never roleplayed before!! Do I have to? HPGoG is NOT listed as a role-play guild, so of course we don't require you to role-play. You can still participate in events like any other member, just make sure you're posting in the correct house colour. Also visit here for more information on role-playing.
What should I know about classes? You're not required to take classes. The House-Elf class is just to help with the process of becoming a full student. Student classes are great ways to earn house points, but not mandatory. Teachers can deduct points from students who sign up for a class but do not participate in lessons or do a certain amount of homework. So you should only join classes that you know you will like and have time to do the homework. If you want to sign up for a class, follow the teacher's classroom instructions. A list of all available classes is located in the Halls of Learning.
Where should I send Donations to? All donations to the guild should be sent to me in a trade. If you donate directly to the guild, we cannot use those funds for good prizes for our events. Gold is not the only form of donation.
What on earth is this Hogwarts Monthly? The Hogwarts Monthly is our guild's paper, if your interested in reading it, just click on the sticky. If you're interested in contributing your own work or ideas into it, then go check out the Editors Office.
Ok, I'm going to be gone for a while because *insert whatever keeps you away from the Guild/Gaia/computer/ect here* I don't want to be banned, what should I do? Try doing one of the following: 1. Post a 'shout' in the Student Message Board that you'll be gone. 2. PM Professor_Adonis, or any other mod about your coming absence. 3. If you can't get online and know someone else in the guild you can contact, ask them to relay a message for you. We have alot of willing and able members here who will do exactly that. 4.If you are banned/demoted for inactivity: PM Professor_Adonis and he'll fix you up. Inactivity bannings are NOT permanent. We know you have a life outside the guild. We keep track of all the guild member's post numbers and keep the post numbers of all guild members who are banned or demoted so you can come back where you left off when you have the time. 3nodding
What's coming up in the Guild? Check out the school calendar for important dates.
What are some of the new features coming to the guild? One way to see what the mods are discussing and having an active role in decisions is to check out Suggestions, Feedback, & Questions (S.F.Q.) in the Care-Taker's Office or our thread in the Registered Guild subforum. Another way to find out what's new it to keep an eye on this very thread, it is specifically here to keep you informed of all major updates. Always check for new messages.
Can I be a mod? No
Why not? Because you asked me if you could be one!
Well, then can I be a prefect, or a deputy head?!? Not if you ask! These spots have to be earned.
Gosh, you're mean! All I wanted was a little leadership! I'm sorry. Not everyone can be a mod/prefect/head. Things don't work like that at Hogwarts. If you expect to walk into Hogwarts on your first day and expect some glorious title, then I don't think you should be here.
