S I M P L Y T R I S H Ive noticed because I'm a Chihuahua fur others assume Im loud, jumpy and annoying. That gets old. Fast. So let me bring you into the mind of the Chihuahua.~
What do you think when you hear the word Chihuahua? I ask some of my friends this same question. They responded with this such things as scare-D-cats, I wanna kick em in the face, old people dogs, Tacobell and my lest favorite annoying. I cant blame them for having these ideals about Chihuahuas. We are portrayed as loud vapping dogs with bad personality or shy little mouse-dogs that get in the way. While some Chihuahuas are on either extrema, quite a few are not. I like to think of my self as a Fur example of that. As is the case with most dogs, Chihuahuas personalty differ from dog to dog. The way the dog grows up plays a major part in this. For example: If you have a Chihuahua that is almost always barking and feels the need for constant attention that dog most likely grew up (or spent most of there young life) with a breeder. Breeders cant spend to much time with one pup for a number of reasons I won't go into (use you heads ;3 ) but a dog growing up in that environment will want all the attention it can get. Good or bad. Resulting sometimes in constant yapping.
Have you heard these phrases? Teacup Chihuahuas? Miniature Chihuahuas? Pocket Chihuahuas? Standard Chihuahuas? Some breeders use these cutesy phrases as "marketing terms" for the different weights that Chihuahuas come in. All of these phrases are made-up! The only classifications that Chihuahuas should be put into is Smooth Coat and Long Coat. If you have some one tell you that "Pocket Chihuahuas" are the best breed of the dog. Hit them in the head They are passing on wrong information or have no idea what they are talking about. Please remember there are # There are energetic Chihuahuas, and placid Chihuahuas. Hard-headed Chihuahuas, and sweet-natured Chihuahuas. Serious Chihuahuas, and good-natured goofballs. Introverted Chihuahuas, and Chihuahuas who love everyone. Im sure that the Chihuahua Furs are just as divers as the breed itself.
Well my rant is over, I feel better know -wags her tail-
Have a different point of view? Please let me know

^v^ I'm glad SOMEONE actually knows what she's talking about when it comes to dog breeds!
While I personally just don't like small dogs around the house (anything smaller than a Shiba Inu is something I'm likely to step on by complete accident), you are absolutely right. Personalities all depend on the individual dog, be they Chihuahua or Great Dane or German Shepard. And funny thing is, each of those three breeds can be as loud and annoying as the others. Of course each has its own stereotype, but I'm glad to see a Fur who goes against the expected nature of his/her breed.
What bugs me is this: I go to an Agriculture/Animal Science-based university, and I see girls in the college of Ag, some destined for Vet Med, (university is separated out into colleges, like Ag, Engineering, Arts&Sciences, etc.) fawning over that insecure little thing shivering in someone else's purse or that Malamute pulling on the leash. Maybe I watch too much of The Dog Whisperer, but whenever I see a dog get out of hand, I think: "Wow... Their owner is a moron. They don't know how to handle that dog." But I digress. ^v^;;
I think I can learn to respect/tolerate any dog breed, even if I'm a bit predisposed against some because of stereotypes, because they ARE as diverse as they are. :> I just say: Judge the individual, not the whole. 3nodding

S I M P L Y T R I S H Thank you for reading Eizoryu. heart Thanks to hours of research and spending almost 3hours a day around Chi's. I can pride myself on my understanding of the Chihuahua breed. I think that anyone wanting to take on an animal persona should as least have some in site on that animal.
Dog Whisperer?!? I luffz that show. :3 I'm glad your not the type that blames the dog. It's refreshing. I hope I can open your mind to the idea of small doggies. We're actually very fun. -she tilts her head an smiles-

I can't say I've ever actually met a Chihuahua that I haven't absolutely detested. I guess I've only come into contact with the annoying lap dog kind. My parents for some reason prefer the boxer, a dog that is so stupid that it drinks until it gets sick and pukes all over the floor.
In fact... I don't think I've EVER come across a dog that was actually intelligent. Maybe some day... Maybe.

Khleo_The_Fox That's a real shame. I cant remember if I said this already but if I have it bears repeating. Chi's are more often than not a 'One person dog' There bonds with there first owners are life long, that is why it's so hard to find older Chi's new homes. They have trouble letting others in. So maybe the ones you've met where just acting on instinct and protecting there owners. These are just one furs opinion, and I could be completely of my rocker..heh.. x'3 Well dogs aren't the smartest animals in the kingdom, but certainly not the dimmest. I think I'm a well rounded fur so maybe count me as an "intelligent dog"?

 ] *nodnod* I agree on having a background with/knowledge of an animal you want to associate yourself with. 'Tis why I'm an Avian Fur; because I love birds so much and know them so well. :> That and anyone who knows me will tell you that I act like a bird most of the time. xD Cesar Millan is awesome! :> The thing I like best about his show is that I can walk away from it feeling like I understand animal psychology a little bit more. ^v^ I don't think I could ever blame an animal; they're just doing what they've been taught or what is instinctive. Like my bird; she bites, but that's my fault for not teaching her to not bite. I think I just haven't had a lot of exposure to small dogs. And the exposure that I have had, wasn't the best. Neighbor's Papillon is an attention hog, family's Yorkie is spoiled, etc. x> Then again, when you live out in the boonies where I do, small dogs aren't the best to have; can't do much against coyotes and large owls.

I've only heard the "miniature" phrase before...but since our vet graciously gave us a poster on the different breeds of dogs, knew it wasn't official. And as for what I think when I hear the word "chihuahua" *spins around, sporting old-school broadway performer's clothes while upbeat showtime music starts to play* ~What can make you move~? Can you feel the groove~? What can make you dance~? Oh....~
Okay, sorry...couldn't resist =^.^=. Personally, my closest encounter with a chihuahua was at a pet store, and it seemed nice. From my knowledge of dogs, chihuahua's aren't that yappity. That award goes to the Japanese Spitz (had one...too much of a fighter. Got in a scrape with a rottweiler). Chihuahuas just have that high pitched bark which some people find irritating. From my experience with toy breeds (miniature pinscher, closest in size to a chihuahua) they're not all that bad. Course that's a desired trait since they're bred to be held in your arms. Overall, I don't really find that breed bad at all. Might get a long coat in the future *shrugs*

   I love Chihuahuas! whee And I'm glad that someone understands that dogs are individuals, and personality traits depend on how they were raised and not just breed type! I really discovered this in the case of a Pomeranian. There was one next door that was a pain in the a**, so I just assumed they were all like that. Then I met my friend's Pomeranian, Teddy, who was an absolute sweetheart ^^. My two favorite dogs, though, are Shi Tzu and Great Danes...Shi Tzu get a lot of bad press like Chihuahuas, though, even though most Shi tzu I've met are really nice...

...let's not talk about what happened with the spitz and the rotweiller....
Anyhow, glad you knew the reference. Knew the song before the "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" movie came out. Just loved the beat.
