This fabulous salon can be found near the end of Main Street, not far from Pick Pocket Park. It looks cramped from outside, but it's surprisingly roomy. That's not to say it's a large place, however, only that it's bigger than it looks. When you enter, there's a small waiting area in front of the receptionist's desk. Behind that, four haircutting stations line the right wall. The first three are used by any of the salon's employees, but the fourth is only used by the owner. Beyond that, there's a small doorway which leads to a second, smaller room with a pair of hair washing stations and a small spa area for manicures and pedicures. Also back there is the door to the cramped staff bathroom and the spiral staircase that leads to Mr. Clover's apartment upstairs.

Hue's living space is the same size as the salon; a rather large area for a single person, some might say. He really only spends his nights there, but then again he rarely spends his nights alone, if you know what I mean. If you don't know what I mean, well then when a man and a woman love each other very much...

User ImageHue woke with a smile, feeling the warmth of another body next to him in his bed. Last night was a bit of a blur to his mind, but these results couldn't lie. The woman was beautiful, her face had a glow that stretched out to the tips of her pointed ears. Her blond hair flowed out across the pillow like a tide of sunbeams. Hue couldn't help but notice with some distaste that it had become a little matted during the night's activities. The woman stirred and her crystal blue eyes opened with a look that would make any human man have a desperate need to adjust positions. Hue was thankful he wasn't human, else he'd probably miss work today.

"It's almost ten," He nodded at an ornate clock on the wall, "I've got an appointment."

"Don't let me stop you," the woman smiled. Human women had their advantages, but it was much easier to get a fey out of bed in the morning. Plus, they never expected you to call. "I had a wonderful time, Hue. We should do something again soon."

"Give me a call anytime, Kataline." Hue pulled a suitable work outfit from a spacious closet and began to get dressed.

"Kataline?" The woman stiffened, "I'm Trisha!" Hue paused for a moment, then gave the woman a sly smile as he finished buttoning his shirt and started towards the stairs.

"Nice try darling, but unless you and your sister swapped in the wee hours of this morning, I'm positive you're Kataline. Trisha prefers to be on top."

As he navigated the narrow spiral steps, Hue took a look at himself in a mirror. He didn't look terrible, but his hair had gotten a little mussed. He grabbed his apron from it's hook, pulled out a comb and with a few quick flicks got his hair back in line. He entered the front and was greeted enthusiastically by his customers, his staff, and the obnoxious ringing of his phone. His first stop was the front counter, where his favorite receptionist seemed to be on the verge of a total breakdown. "What's up, Val?"

"There was an announcement about prom on TV this morning, so everyone's calling to try and get an appointment with you." She mimed holding the phone, "Sorry, miss, but Mr. Clover's been booked solid for two weeks. People wait until the last minute and what do they expect?"

"Booked solid? Wow, how'd I miss that?" Hue leaned over Val's shoulder to get a better look at the schedule.

"Yeah, nothing's left all day. You know, Hue, I'd understand if you wanted to open three o'clock for someone who'll actually pay-"

"Sweetheart, I didn't pull you out of the 'Queen of Darkness' fashion rut just to send you to prom with a bird's nest on your head. Make sure you and your parents get here a little early so you can pick a dress from upstairs. And don't worry, I'll sort out the more risqué ones before they get here. We'll find you something modest that still lets you show off the girls." Val rolled her eyes, her cheeks suddenly getting a bit more color as the phone rang again.

Hue turned his attention to the three hairdressers working behind him. The first two, who shared the same unearthly beauty and pointed ears as the woman Hue had left upstairs, were struggling to control their laughter at the third, a young man who seemed to be struggling quite fiercely with his clippers. Hue knew this could only mean trouble, so he came to the man's aid. "What seems to be the trouble, John?"

"These scissors are really dull, Mr. Clover. I mean, it's almost like this man's hair is getting longer." Hue took a look at the cut and had to stifle a chuckle himself. The customer John was working on had the makings of a fine mullet.

"Call me Hue, John, and I think you're using my clippers." He took the scissors and sure enough they were crafted from elegant moonsilver and engraved with arcane runes. Not that John would have recognized any of that. "That's odd," Hue said a little louder than normal, "I always leave these in my drawer. I can't imagine how they got into your station." Beside John, the two women were instantly silent and returned to their work. As Hue returned the scissors to his drawer, Kataline walked by on her way out the door. She stopped and gave Hue a confused look.

"I thought you had a ten o'clock appointment? Are they late?"

"A little, it seems." Hue smiled as he called over to the desk, "Hey, Val, who's my ten o'clock?"

"It says here you've got a miss Kataline Dewbud, Hue."

"Hue, you don't have to do this," Kataline was obviously delighted.

"What did you expect, darling? 'So long, thanks for the shag?' I may have been raised by humans, but I'm not a barbarian," The last part was said more quietly as Hue leaned in to avoid being overheard. "I'm more than willing to fix up what you've got, but I'm certain you have something else you want."

"Alright, I admit it. I've had my eye on the job you did for Alison Whispers." Hue smiled and pulled a silver comb from his drawer. It was an easy enough job, a dye and some highlights. He pulled back Kataline's hair and began to run the comb through it in easy, rhythmic strokes. Once he got the feel for it, he was able to tune in to the other costumers.

"I know it's his big night, but I just don't know if I can let him be exposed to that horrible music." The man whom John was finally back on track trimming had somehow missed the whole episode and spoke with obvious concern. "I know he's going to hate me. Hell, I'd hate me, too. Still, I just don't think I can let him go to Prom, you know?"

"Did Paul do something wrong, Mr. Summers?" Hue was rather concerned by the thought of anyone being pulled from an event so important as Prom.

"No, it's just that they've got the awful B.A.N.D. playing."

"Eww," Hue nearly vomited, "The school hired those psudo-revolutionaries? They couldn't get a decent song out of a player-piano!" He looked down at his work, pleased to see the blond hair had gone to raven black. He flipped the comb over and ran it through a few more times, leaving behind a few streaks of glittery silver and making the hair look like a clear sky on the new moon. "Still, Mr. Summers, you can't punish Paul for the school's terrible taste in music. I'll be chaperoning for the prom and I can vouch for a few others. We'll keep the kids out of too much trouble. You're all set, Kataline."

"Thanks, Hue, you're the best!" Kataline kissed him and headed out the door. As she left, Val turned from the phone and called to him.

"Hue, your eleven o'clock is here a little early, if you want to get started on her."

Hue was momentarily surprised that he had given himself an eleven o'clock on a Monday that wasn't someone he'd just slept with. When he checked the waiting area, however, his eyes lit up. "Ah, so it's that day of the month!"

User Image"Erin, it's been too long," Hue greeted one of his most loyal customers with a warm smile and a hug. "How are the girls?"

"They're fine, Hue," The woman opened her purse and pulled out a small stand and set in on Hue's counter. She pulled out a triangle and gave it a rap with her nail. It filled the air with a dull ring that seemed to separate the two of them from the rest of the salon. "Put that comb away, Hue. If I wanted a magic cut, I'd do it myself."

"You never let me have any fun," Hue feigned disappointment as he put away the moonsilver comb. As he got to work, he could feel the energy curling off his customer. "You seem more stressed than usual, if that's even possible. What's got you so troubled?"

"It's Penelope, Hue. I'm afraid she's started projecting," Mrs. Greenhill sighed. "And the day of that break in at the school, she was positively soaked in wild energy..." She trailed off and looked at Hue in the mirror, "You're going to say 'I told you so,' aren't you?"

"Evidently, I don't have to. I did tell you so, though." Hue was silent as he continued to work with Mrs. Greenhill's hair.

"You have more to say, go ahead and say it."

"It's nothing I haven't said already..." Hue sighed and launched into his old speech, "You need to teach those girls everything. Elizabeth could come of age any time now and Penelope reached arcane maturity years ago. They have to be trained now before they start to experiment on their own."

"I know, Hue, I just don't want this life for them."

"I know you just want to protect them, but you can't." Hue snapped just a bit more than he wanted to, but it was too late to stop himself, "And frankly, I wish you'd worry a bit more about protecting the rest of us. Those kids are blood witches and if you don't train them, they're going to become sorceresses. Wild, undisciplined, and just a nudge away from blowing away an entire town."

"Penelope would never-"

"She's a teenager. They're adorable, but they're also just little angst bombs." Hue shook his head, "Plus, you should also start trying to protect yourself. The bond between a teacher and student can be one of the only things stronger than blood bonds. What if either of them finds a teacher who wants you dead?"

"You're right, I know you are." Mrs. Greenhill suddenly stiffened, nearly causing Hue to take part of her ear off. "That wild energy Penelope was giving off the other day; what if it wasn't hers? What if something else got a hold of her..."

"The fact that she's still alive makes that very unlikely. You have no idea how much energy Penelope can produce, either. Maybe she can spout off some of the move unstable kind."

"All the more reason to get started on her training..."

"You're all set, Erin." Mrs. Greenhill stood and put the triangle back in her purse.

"I'll give you a call for the initiation. I presume you know how to do that?" Hue nodded. "It'll have to be after prom, I can't send her to a dance like that... Speaking of prom, is Penelope's appointment all set?"

"Of course. When are you going to surprise her?"

"I was thinking of doing it today when she gets home. All she needs now is the boy," Mrs. Greenhill chuckled, "He's a real sweetie, but he couldn't take a hint if it was stapled to his forehead. See you again soon, Hue!"

"Not soon enough," Hue gave Mrs. Greenhill a few minutes to get on her way before grabbing his own coat. He was free until one o'clock and he desperately needed confirm a suspicion. Penelope had a lot of power in her, but it was very unlikely she was pumping out truly "wild" energy. There was really only one place in Delmor where she could have picked that up.

User ImageHue woke with a start, sending water splashing over the sides of the tub. He had planned on a nap, but the darkness out his window indicated that his nap had gone on a bit too long. He rose out of the tub, cringing at how black the water had turned, and stretched. He felt more than simply healed or rested; he felt truly restored. There were worse things in life than oversleeping in a regenerative bath. He looked back out the window and was surprised to see little beams of sunlight creeping from the horizon. It was morning and more sleep was out of the question. Hue got dressed and threw out his torn and bloody clothes from yesterday. It was somewhere in the middle of this that he thought of the centaur.

"I imagine she'll be up with the sun, too... Perhaps I can bring her some supplies." Hue rounded up some basic food (bread, water, a little wine) and a whole basket full of medicinal supplies be for ducking out of his salon into the cool morning.
