A drama is unfolding in Noctua. In one part of the woods, two young lovebirds are building a nest together and planning for the future. One of them may even be offered the opportunity to learn one of the old, nearly forgotten arts pretty soon, and things are really starting to look up for the happy couple. If only it weren't for the fact that they are of different types. As if pressure from friends, family and even society wasn't enough of a strain on their relationship, it would seem as though there is an even more sinister shadow looming over the couple. Certain forces would stop at nothing, it seems, to see the two of them broken up... And there are things in both of their pasts that they would rather not have brought into the open... There's something rotten in the forest of Noctua. Event specific rules- All the usual RP rules apply - Depending on how things play out there is a risk for death or permanent injury. - In order to earn your character the main cast will have to complete five roleplays (three roleplays will be part of the plot, you must plan the other two) and the support cast will have to complete three roleplays (where one is part of the plot). - At least one of those roleplays should be with non-plot characters. - Roleplay with characters you already own doesn't count towards your roleplay quota. - These two extra RPs must be completed within one month of the end of the scripted RPs. - You will get some required meetings, and some suggestions, but you will ultimately decide what happens during the confrontations. The Herald will be available as needed for NPCs. - Players with existing characters can apply to have a pre-established relationship with one of the plot Sentinels, or to meet them. - All roleplay with these characters during the plot will take place in the Gathering place subforum.LinksThe Cast | The Roleplay | Sign up thread | Audition 1 | Audition 2Tentative TimeframeOctober 31 - Three roleplays finished for the main cast and one "scripted" roleplay finished for the support cast. Cast--The Forager--Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Dark Fire Angel Name: Bushfire Nicknames: Buff Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Adult Hatch Date: 27/03/200? Type: Wildtype Task: Forager Personality: Proud and sure of herself, mostly due to her upbringing. Doted on by those that raised her, confident in her skills, with a tendency to overlook her own faults and mistakes in favour of her achievements. Slightly immature and selfish, thinking herself superior merely due to lineage and her 'pure' blood; despite this, Bushfire is a hard worker and does not allow others to do her work for her. Capable in that what she does know how to do, and seemingly willing to learn that what she does not. Flawed in that she does not admit to her own mistakes and takes things much too personally than she probably should; it will take time and patience to learn that perhaps, what she was taught is not always 'right', and that maybe that what she'd always thought tho be right is more than slightly 'unfair'. History: She was born and raised in one of the proudest Wildtype families and brought up to be proud about her spotless family history. Her bloodline had never been diluted by hybrid breedings. True to her upbringing she found a mate in another purebred Wildtype and they managed to take a decent territory. Earlier this year when their first clutch arrived one chick was dead in the shell and the other was... abnormal. The evidence has since been disposed of, and the pair are no longer mates for fear of hatching more freaks, but the scars still remain. Her former mate seems to have moved on, but she can't let go just yet. Territory: They used to hold a good territory with excellent foraging grounds west of Deep Woods, and she still lurks in that area, chasing off anyone who tries to settle in their former home. She has, however, found a new tree to roost in since their old home holds too many memories. Mate: --- Companions: A Mus and a Skurri Certificate:

Part II – Companions
Name: Oi (Technically, Buff would call it 'Oi, you', and somehow, it stuck) Species: Mus Speech Ability: 3 Intelligence: 5 Skill: Obeys commands, helps gathering of adequate foods, able to detect worms, or rotting fruits.
Name: Floo Species: Skurri Speech Ability: 2 Intelligence: 4 Skill: Obeys commands, helps gathering of adequate foods, can reach high up places to store foods.--The Wood-Worker--Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Haren48 Name: Basil Nicknames: --- Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Adult Hatch Date: 13/06/200? Type: Wildtype Task: Crafter (wood) Personality: Outwardly, he appears very much like he was raised to be; of strong lineage and bearing. More intimate contact would reveal him as a rather shy, sensitive gentleman; less inclined to the stuffy, unyielding traditions of his forebearers.
While he may confess to having been “bullied” into his first mating by his parents, he's become more assertive since then, making a very bold (and very scandalous) break from tradition and courting a very lovely Mist female. History: He was born and raised in a pure and very old Wildtype family and his first mate was a female from another, equally proud family of Wildtypes. Together, they managed to secure a very favorable territory, and everything should have been perfect. However, when their first clutch arrived earlier this year, one chick was dead in the shell and the other was... abnormal.
The evidence of their catastrophic mating has since been disposed of, and the pair are no longer mates for fear of hatching more freaks. He has moved on and is currently, and rather successfully, courting a certain Mist female. Territory: He has recently moved into his mate's territory, north of Deep Woods near the swift cold river. Mate: Fiercefire, the Trapper) Companions: --- Certificate:
--The Trapper--Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Meepfur Name: Fiercefire Nicknames: "Fi" (Fee) Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Adult Hatch Date: 23/09/200? Type: Mist Task: Trapper Personality: Fiercefire, originally named for the color of her eyes, has lived up to her name in character as well. She is both fierce and firey, and intractably stubborn. She has plenty of social skills, of course, coming from a large family and with a variety of clients; stubborn though she may be, she doesn't cross the line into abrasive or unpleasant unless there's a real reason to be so. She is readily talkative and friendly, even affectionate, she just happens to have her own opinions, and isn't likely to be budged once she's made up her mind. History: Raised as part of a family with a strong tradition of hunting prowess, it was no surprise that this particular female ended up taking on that task and eventually specializing as a Trapper. Her family holds extensive territories throughout the northern regions, and is strongly connected to many other families in the area - in more ways than one. Many of those within her bloodline will take mates of other types, and she is a relatively pure-blooded Mist compared to her cousins and agemates. This colourful family history and heritage of openness about mixed-type aberrants has given her a somewhat sheltered upbringing, so far as the deeper racial prejudices of many Sentinels are concerned. Territory: She holds a big territory north of deep woods, near the swift cold river. Game is abundant and there will be plenty of room to raise chicks. Mate: Basil, the Crafter Companions: Certificate:

Part II – Companions
Name: Squeaks Species: Mus Age: Adult Speech Ability: 3 Intelligence: 5 Skill: Squeaks sometimes acts as bait for Fiercefire's traps, and is the latest in a long line of Mus to hold that 'honor' - and the same name.--The Seeker--Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Baniru Name: Bracken Nicknames: None Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Young Adult Hatch Date: 01/01/200? Type: Deep Woods Task: Seeker Personality: Proud, rash, opportunistic and has a rather cruel sense of "humor". He is also absolutely positive that everything bad that have ever happened to him can be blamed on an aberrant. He is quick to take credit for good ideas and successful operations, but just as quick to blame someone else if any of his actions should happen to blow up in his face. His personality really hasn't changed much from his fledgling days. He is intensely judgmental of others, and also has the tendency to overestimate his abilities. He may be arrogant and conceited at times. History: He is very young, but he already have something of a... history. As a fledgling he was something of a troublemaker and notorious around the Minders and Teachers as the sort of child that needed to be watched carefully, since he would never hesitate to cause trouble (or pain) for a weaker fledgling (or better yet, an aberrant), if he thought he could get away with it. Some of the things that he did in the past could actually have landed him in some very serious trouble, if he hadn't got plenty of second chances. However, thanks to that, he has had opportunity to prove himself an asset to the Clan, and even managed to attain the responsible rank of Seeker. Territory: He has secured a small territory north of Deep Woods, but he hangs around a lot in Deep Woods in the hopes of finding someone weak enough to challenge. Mate: None Companions: Certificate:

Part II – Companions
Name: Fernroot Species: Mus Age: Adult Speech Ability: 3 Intelligence: 5 Skill: Sneaking into places- usually gathering information where Bracken cannot feasibly go.--The Builder--Part I – The Sentinel
Player: surreality Name: Blackbirch Nicknames: bob depending on the sentinel, it's either black, birch, or grumps. Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Elder Hatch Date: 09/05/200? Type: Aberrant (Deep Woods x (Mist x Deep Woods)) Task: Builder Personality: Some sentinels would claim that Blackbirch lives up to his name, metaphorically: he's harsh, rough around the edges, and has a tendency to be fairly rude to his customers. Granted, if any of them would go out of their way to get to know him just a little bit, they'd realize that instead, he has a rather dry and sarcastic sense of humor, and nothing makes him cackle more than riling up some pompous old bird with a head too large to fly with, especially if they even begin to give him any grief about his lineage. Aside from that sort of unpleasant customer, he's more than happy to help out without any stray comments, and usually has a large group of 'regulars' that always return for his professional services. However, despite all of that, he's well known for being a bit of a brooder and becomes too involved in himself and whatever work that comes by; which, after a long period of slow and steady jobs, is becoming too much for him to handle on his own and his pride isn't ready to admit to it just yet. History: It would be an understatement to say that the prime of his life were in the years that followed the Great Clan Wars. Although he was very young at the time, nothing thrilled him more than learning all that he could as a crafter, and then later as an apprentice, and finally, becoming a full-fledged Builder that helped in the reconstruction of Noctua itself. It gave him a meaningful purpose in life, knowing that he was taking what was once broken and tattered from the remnants of the wars and fixing, or sometimes replacing with, something better that could bring hope to other sentinels, almost as though it were a symbol of rebirth. Those years were full of accomplishments, friendships, and personal growth, both physically and mentally for him, and he'll always cherish the memories he made then. When the final platform was finished, time seemed to slow down for Blackbirch. Not many sentinels were in dire need of large and wooden structures, so the collaborations between himself and fellow task-members were diminished to only a rare few times in a span of a couple of years, and only when something needed to be maintained. He noticed that a lot of his friends turned to a more aesthetic approach to crafting, which turned his stomach into knots; there's nothing more demeaning to their craft than to make precious jewelry to those vain enough to wear them, or at least, that was his own opinion. In the end, he decided to move from the heart of Deep Woods to a more northern and isolated location where he knew family was nearby, and settled himself a home and workshop. He's lived there since then, tending to clients who needed repairs in their hollow or a small platform added to their territory. He wasn't able to find a female companion and start a family, though he'll tell you that it worked out for the better, as they would have only gotten in the way of his true passion. Wether that is how he truly feels about it or not, nobody else knows, as he prefers to keep the conversation away from his personal life and towards current news and politics. He has had a few apprentices here and there, though none of them were particularly interested in the harness of wood or its practical uses, which caused him to become bitter towards crafters who hone their skills for jewelry. After the storm hit, his 'business' took a surprisingly sharp turn away from boring and manageable, and he suddenly found himself just barely able to get most things done. As much as he'd like to think age has nothing to do with it, he is no longer the very capable builder from his youth, and is starting to have second thoughts about being able to continue his projects alone. Territory: On the northern outskirts of Deep Woods, a gathering of old, strong oak trees. Mate: none Companions: none Certificate: --The Jilted Ex--Part I – The Sentinel
Player: CuterThanYou Name: Sunflare Nicknames: Ari Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Adult Hatch Date: 13/03/200? Type: Mist Task: Artisan Personality: A very lofty Sentinel, Sunflare's first and foremost priority is himself and his own personal needs. While he's dedicated to his task, he can be excessively vainglorious over his talents. He believes he knows the perfect colors and accessories for any Sentinel, and it's their loss should they choose to not heed his most helpful advice. Over his lifetime, he's achieved quite a bounty of trinkets and jewelry, and adorns any willing Sentinel with a complimenting piece to go along with the talented dye jobs he provides (that is, of course, if they in exchange provide the necessary flattering beforehand!). While he knows he isn't the wisest of Sentinels, he knows he's one of the handsomest, and beauty, in his opinion, trumps knowledge any day. As far as he's concerned, a brainy Sentinel could never make it as far in life as a stunningly handsome one! History: Having been deeply rooted in the artistic way of life throughout his family tree, Sunflare discovered his task (and talent therein) at a relatively early age. As well, having had most of his lifetime to practice such a trade, he spent significantly less time perfecting and practicing other skills that his agemates had been learning at the same time, quickly discovering that his artistic talent, as well as his own personal good looks and charms, could get him practically anything he wanted in life. He learned the basics, of course, but like his parents and their parents before them and so forth, his main focus was on beauty, and the ability to retrieve it even out of the most simplest and ordinary of objects and Sentinels. Feeling somewhat burdened by the expectancies of both of his parents, Sunflare settled down nearby the Swift Cold River, leaving the remainder of his family back near the Sparkle River, giving himself enough freedom and distance to enjoy life on his own terms. He managed to find a healthy large tree to make himself a home in, giving himself enough space for his dyes and room to work in, if need be (and an Emergency Sprucing was called for). As well, he keeps with him a vast collection of accessories he's collected from neighboring crafters, having the mindset that there's always an accessory to compliment a nicely done dye job (it's always good to be prepared!). Recently, he believed to have found himself his partner in life (oh how her colors complimented his!) but to his horror, she left him high and dry, and has now fallen for another Sentinel. Not one to accept defeat, Sunflare is determined to reclaim what is his, no matter what it takes. After all, what Sunflare wants, Sunflare gets! Territory: In the Cold Forest, East of the Swift Cold River, though relatively nearby to the River itself. Mate: None Companions: None Certificate:
--The younger sister--Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Chibi Sheepcat Name: Fireflight Nicknames: Fira Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Young adult Hatch Date: ?? Type: Mist Task: Hunter Personality: Like her elder sister, Fireflight was named after the colour of her eyes. Though they share a similar upbringing, she is neither as fierce nor stubborn as Fiercefire. She is, however, extremely determined, especially about proving herself as a hunter worthy enough to be recognized alongside her sister. Fiercefire is a source of both great jealousy and great awe for the young hunter, and she is often torn between learning from her elder and ignoring her help in favour of "roughing it on her own." Fireflight believes in doing things her own way, and has no qualms about telling other Sentinels off if they feel the need to criticize her. If they don't like what she does then they can fly off. Age has yet to soften her tongue and she often speaks without thinking about the effect of her words. There is much she has to learn about her place in the Sentinel society, and has taken up residence in her sister's territory in the hopes of spending some time with her. History: It's not easy growing up in the shadow of an amazing older sister. Graduated at the top of her class. Amazing hunter, apprenticed to a Huntmaster early in her career and became a Trapper at a ridiculously young age. Smart, swift, sure of herself... Fiercefire has certainly set a high standard for this young mist to live up to! Their parents have always been extremely supportive, but this recent graduate can't help but feel like she'll never be as good as her older sister.
Now that she's graduated, she's taken on the task of hunter - determined to prove that she is every bit as capable as Fiercefire. But everyone seems to think it'd be a good idea for her to spend some time with her older sister, so now she's off to live with Fiercefire and her new mate while they prepare for their first clutch. Territory: She has yet to acquire a territory of her own. Mate: None Companions: Yes Certificate:
Part II – Companions
Name: Chatter Species: Mus Age: Adult Speech Ability: 4 Intelligence: 5 Skill: A Mus that was obtained for her by her father, Chatter is a Mus whose family has been in the "line of duty" for more generations than they remember. He does his best to offer his support for her cause, though he is often used as a scout. Quote: --The Nosy Relative--
Part I – The Sentinel
Player: ??? Name: Applewood Nicknames: Apple Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Young Adult Hatch Date: 23/02/200? Type: Wildtype Task: Watcher
Personality: Applewood watches. Not for enjoyment or duty, but because she simply can't decide what to do. Some days she is convinced that it would be ideal to be a minder; however, youthful fickleness quickly sets in, and she decides that it would be better to be a gatherer. Or an artisan. Or a bard. Without any special talents or a particular fondness for any one task, she finds herself stuck watching.
There's always plenty to watch, of course. Settled in the same part of the woods as her extended family, she observes a fair amount of drama on a daily basis. She likes to help settle squabbles and ease hurt feelings, even despite past.... fiascos.
A priority in Applewood's life at the moment is finding a mate. She's young, but she's been told about the type of Sentinel she was destined to love since she was a young fledgling, so why wait?
History: Born into an extensive and ancient line of Wildtypes, Applewood's place in her family was decided long before she was born. As the single offspring in her parents' last clutch, she has enjoyed the full benefits of a parenting strategy perfected on her older siblings. She was quite sheltered, to say the least. Apple was raised to believe that Wildtypes are the purest race among Sentinels, and that, as a member of such an old and undiluted line, it was her duty to find a mate from an equally pure family. Her chicks would be taught to respect and value their heritage, and the family's pride would remain intact. This was how it was for Applewood's sisters, and there was never any question that this is how it would be for her.
Territory: Applewood has, with the assistance of her parents, settled in a tree near the rest of her family.
Mate: None Companions: None Certificate:
--The Secret Admirer--
Part I – The Sentinel
Player: ??? Name: Emery Nicknames: Em or Emy Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Adult Hatch Date: 16/06/200? Type: Wildtype Task: Crafter (copper) Personality: Emery is your archetypal nerd; shy, studious, almost obsessive about his work, bad at expressing his feelings, and bad at making conversation, unless it’s about something he is very knowledgeable about. These topics, of course, are pretty limited. He tries, though. Sometimes too much, to the point where he just comes off as annoying. If he hadn’t fallen in love with the lovely Forager next door, he might have just declared himself a hermit and saved everyone the trouble.
History: As a youngling, this Wildtype always looked for a place where he was needed, where he could please as many as he could without drawing too much attention to his weakest points. He had a great ear for music and a pleasant voice to boot, but he could never bring himself to perform in front of anyone. He was horribly embarrassed whenever the Minders discovered him singing to himself when he thought he was alone. He eventually discovered a non-embarrassing way to use his gift. This was crafting musical items for the Bards, always perfectly tuned in whatever key they preferred to sing. Nowadays, he usually works with copper. He won’t touch gold – too bright and pure for the likes of himself – and silver always seemed too cold. He especially loves the deep richness of the sound made by large copper wind chimes.
And thus, Emery has led a simple, humble life. He’s never wondered about his parents – at least, he didn’t used to. Now that Bushfire has unknowingly captured his timid heart, he wishes he had at least a hint of a fine family history to impress her with. If the chance to find out where he came from presents itself, he will jump on it in an instant. His heart goes out to the beautiful female, who is strong enough to defend such a desirable territory, yet slips into such gripping despair the moment the danger is gone.
Territory: Emery makes his home in a stand of trees west of the Deep Woods, close to where Bushfire lives. His territory is easily distinguished by the painstakingly-tuned copper wind chimes hung throughout. Mate: None Companions: None Certificate:
--The Perfect Match--
Part I – The Sentinel
Player: ??? Name: Bandar Nicknames: Ban Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Young Adult Hatch Date: 06/02/200? Type: Mist Task: Medic (although he dabbles in medicine-making as well, as a past-time.) Personality: Though he certainly has a good heart, Bandar is not a particularly social Sentinel. It isn't that he dislikes others, he's just awkward and doesn't find himself to be particularly interesting - so why would anyone else? He's very dedicated to his work and takes both his successes and failures to heart. Nothing makes him happier than successfully treating an injury or illness, and nothing crushes him more than losing a patient. It is when he's treating a patient that his true self shows through - warm, honest and extremely caring. History: Bandar's mother and father were rather old when they had their final clutch, and as a result, Ban was a singleton. Rather than passing their last offspring off to the Minders, they decided to raise Ban himself, although the inquisitive fledgling often tagged along with the Minder-raised fledglings on their early lessons. Though never a social butterfly, Ban proved a very eager, capable student from early on, and got on with nearly all of his teachers.
He forged a close bond with the Sentinel who taught him about healing. In fact, in the beginning, he didn't care for the art much, but felt obligated to keep at it because of his relationship with the older Sentinel. Of course, as time went on, his enthusiasm grew, and after a point, he couldn't imagine doing anything else.
Ban's parents both passed on not too long ago. Though the young Sentinel mourned their passing, he accepted it easily enough. They were old. The young become adults, adults become old, and the old die. He is more affected by deaths that he feels he could have somehow prevented. Territory: At the moment, he's assigned to a territory slightly northwest of the Deep Woods, but he goes where he is needed. Mate: None Companions: None Certificate:
