It had seemed a little strange to Fireflight for her parents to suggest that she go spend time with her sister now. Wouldn’t Fiercefire want to spend this time alone with her mate? After all, word on the wind said that they were preparing for their first clutch. Still, everyone had seemed to think it was a good idea for her to go, and who was Fireflight to disappoint? Her sister had a large territory, perfect for trapping, and it certainly couldn’t hurt to fly over and have a look at it. She wanted to have an example of the kind of territory she should have when she became as good a hunter as her sister.
The travel had gone smoothly, with no interruptions beside the occasional visit into the hunting ranges of some of her family. She had promised those she met with that she would tell them how her sister was doing when she flew back that way. Upon her arrival at the outskirts of her sister’s territory, the young Sentinel landed silently on a tree branch, and gave a hoot to announce her presence. She might have simply barged in if it was just Fiercefire living there, but now that she had a mate Fireflight had to try to be a little more polite. He might be the one who was going to answer her call.

Fiercefire was being lazy and having a nap when the faint sound of a hoot reached her. She lifted her eartufts, curious, and hooted back. Who could it be? Though she knew Fireflight would be coming to stay with them, she didn't know yet if it was her or not - it could always be a customer, even if those were a little scarce these days. At any rate, it wasn't a voice she recognized from far-off...and if it were, it would have ruled her sister out. She hadn't seen the young Mist since she'd fledged, although her parents had wanted her to attend graduation; she'd been busy with Basil, and the beginnings of all their neighbor troubles.

Fireflight waited, and then was pleased at the answering hoot. It could be her sister or her sister’s mate, but whoever it was they didn’t seem to mind the intrusion. Excellent. With permission to enter, she set off into her sister’s territory. She flew lower than she would if she were scouting, eyes peeled for any signs of her sister or the Sentinel who had let her in. Fireflight had yet to meet Fiercefire’s mate, and thus didn’t know exactly what she was looking for. Still, if she saw another Sentinel she would assume it was her sister’s Mr. Right.
The territory was big, and the young Sentinel did her best to locate whoever had welcomed her. It was by chance that Fireflight caught sight of her sister, not used to having to look for the one she wanted. Still, Fiercefire was there and not her made, which would make the reunion a little more peaceful. Or so Fireflight hoped. With another hoot to announce her presence, she landed on a nearby branch, orangey eyes focused on her sister.
“The view is nice,” she said in greeting, rustling her wings as she settled.

It was Fireflight! Though most of Fi's memories of her were as a tiny, peeping hatchling, there was no mistaking their family's creamy color, touched with dark here and there. The other Sentinel looked as uncannily like her as ever - perhaps even moreso now that she was grown. They were related, true, so it made a certain amount of sense, but what had been the odds? They could easily be mistaken for each other from a distance.
Though it was vaguely disconcerting to be presented with a fully-grown Fireflight - it almost made her feel old! - the Trapper smiled and mirrored her sister's wing-rustling. "Thank you. You had a good trip, I hope?"

It was nice to see that Fiercefire had not changed much since the last time that Fira had seen her. She seemed not quite as imposing, but the young Sentinel attributed that to the fact that she herself was bigger now. Getting bigger had not changed the fact that she still resided in her sister's shadow, but every time she accomplished something Fireflight felt a little bit of that shadow disappear. One day, they would be equals. She just had to keep on trying.
The smile made Fireflight feel quite welcome, but she did her best to look casual about the whole ordeal. Sisters didn't need to be too excited about seeing each other, especially when they were rivals (some of the time, at least). "It was shorter than I expected. Bunch of relatives from back home want to hear any news they can of you though." She paused to peer around, as though expecting somebody to leap from the trees at any moment. "Is he here?"

"What, rumors aren't enough for them?" Fi chuckled dryly. Inwardly, seeing Fireflight still felt...awkward, in a sense. Should she have stuck around and played big sister longer than she had? Now that she was getting ready for a clutch with her mate, she couldn't help but wonder. "Basil? No, not right now. I'm not sure quite where he's gone, actually."
Fortunately, she had remembered to tell her mate that Fira was coming to stay awhile - not quite the last-minute notice she'd given him about going to see their Great Uncle.
"How're things at home?" she ventured.

Rumours? Fireflight frowned slightly. There had been whispers, but the young Sentinel hadn't cared enough to pay attention to them. She had long since grown accustomed to the idea that people would talk about her sister. It was only natural so speak about such an accomplished hunter. About Fiercefire's mate, however, Fireflight heard very little. She was a little disappointed that she couldn't meet him now, but she knew she would see him eventually. They were bound to run into each other now that they were living together.
"Basil..." She repeated the name quietly, testing it. It sounded like a good name. "I'll have to keep my eye out for him. I'd like to meet the one who has captured your fancy." Fira couldn't help but grin. At the question she shrugged her wings, not entirely sure what there was to say. "The same as usual. Hunting is good, mom and dad are good. One of our aunts came to visit, but that's been all."

Fiercefire preened briefly, pleased with her sister's interest in her mate - at least she wasn't interested because she thought it was a scandal! Fireflight's approval would mean a lot to her, and she fervently hoped they would get along. "He's wonderful! I hope you like him."
"An aunt? We went to visit Great Uncle Blackbirch the other day - have you ever met him? I bet he'd love to see you, too!" Fi wasn't always fierce; she had quite the pleasant side, but it hadn't had much of a chance to come out lately. It was nice to have some sense of normalcy back, even if it might not last.

"He's wonderful? I'm definitely looking forward to meeting him then!" Fireflight felt a little excited now, clearly interested in this male that her sister praised so freely. Though she had heard he was not a Mist type, it was one of those things that the young Sentinel didn't think too much on. There was no reason to sacrifice a good relationship just because the Sentinel wasn't the same type as you. She had learned that from their family, and thus she would support her sister in whatever she did. Fireflight may have been her rival at times, but she was still her sister. Family had to stick together.
Her ear tufts twitched at the mention of Great Uncle Blackbirch. "I've heard stories but I've never met him up front. If he's not too busy I'd like to drop by sometime." So many new Sentinels to meet! She hoped she could remember all of them. It would make her look bad if she started forgetting names. "What's he like?"

Fi found herself wondering if Fireflight had anyone back home...of course, she was still young, so probably not. It certainly wasn't likely she'd find anyone around here! Most of her neighbors frowned upon cross-type relationships, and she only knew of two Mists in the area - and Sunflare was right out! For a lot of very good reasons. And that Medic from the other night? Hmph!
"He's very, well..." The Trapper ducked her head to scratch a bothersome itch. "Like most of the family, I guess. Very nice, very...uncle-y. His territory's fabulous, lots of platforms and things!"

Fireflight was probably quite lucky that she didn’t know half of what her sister knew, especially about the neighbours. This was really her first time in an outside world where she wasn't surrounded by her non-typist relatives. She knew aberrants and pure types both, but had always been taught to give any Sentinel a chance for a good first impression. Feather colour could be changed, but how a Sentinel was on the inside was what really mattered.
The young Sentinel bobbed her head at her sister's assessment of their Great Uncle. She liked nice. Nice people tended not to bring out the worst in her, and also seemed more forgiving of her sharp tongue. "Platforms? What for? Is he a Crafter?"

"He's a Builder, actually - Basil's a Crafter, though - and he's really good! He's been around since after the War, or something like that." Blackbirch, like much of their family, was absolute proof that there was nothing wrong with Aberrants. They weren't deficient at all! "It's had me wondering if maybe we could have platforms."
With a clutch practically imminent, she imagined they could come in very handy, especially once they had fledglings toddling around.

A Builder and a Crafter in the family? Fireflight was quite impressed. Sure, they weren't exactly as great as hunters – biased? Perhaps just a teeny bit – but they were still very interesting. The young Sentinel had never quite understood how anyone could be that creative with things that she thought were so bland. She knew she'd never be able to fashion jewellery or build platforms, but that was why she was a Hunter and not a Crafter. To each his own, as her aunt would say.
"So he's super old then huh?" She had never met a Sentinel that had been around since after the War. Perhaps this old Great Uncle of hers would have all sorts of cool stories to tell. He was definitely worth a visit. "What do you use the platforms for? For roosting, or just for hanging out or…" Fireflight trailed off, trying to imagine what these strange platforms could be used for.

"A little bit of everything, as far as I can tell. Just...generally having more room for whatever, I suppose. They could be handy for fledglings," she mused, "Not that they'd really fall any less." They were always falling! It was a wonder they didn't all break themselves before they could get to adulthood.

"Oh. Fledglings. Yeah, I guess having platforms would make keeping an eye on them a little easier." It was hard to imagine her sister actually having little Sentinels tottering around. Fiercefire had been an adult when she was born, so it wasn't that she wasn't old enough. Her sister also had a mate now too. It was only natural that fledglings would be coming soon. She didn't, however, let her own thoughts get in the way of conversation. "You're building a nest now, right? With Basil? Mother told me I was supposed to help out if I could."
