[ BB ] Slash and Strike [ BB ]

[- Battle Located Here -]

[- 29.25 Experience -]
[- Yael -]

Traveling to Yael this time was more than a simple exploration task, no the Oban army had a keen interest in a rumor. The rumor was something Nuri was unable to prove or deny the last time he was here, mostly because he wasn't even aware of it until he got back on the ship to Oba. It was a quick conversation, hushed between the few soliders he tasked to search for more Limbara.

"Did you hear....they claim there's a creature that will light the land on fire..."

"Impossible, they probably just said it to scare you..."

"No, I heard it in multiple cities...a mountain creature that breaths fire and lives in the caves below the surface..."

Naturally, the rumors spread, and grew more wild, as soon as the hit the mainland. Eventually, his superiors grew curious enough to step in and ask him to lead a quick campaign to the island.

At least they understood his reluctance because of his children on the way.

Now, as he moved through the lands toward the cave, Nuri just wanted to get the trip over as soon as he could. It was a few days of travel between each settlement, and then they were on their own through the land close to the mountains. They already passed (quite quickly) through each Yaeli area. Now that the natives no longer feared the mainlanders, they were quick to turn them away with anger and frustration. Nuri wondered if they'd ever be accepted or move toward some sort of arrangement or peace.

Suddenly, a rustling caught his attention. Even when his mind wandered, he was quick to hone in on the sound of creatures. Years of training helped him make it that far. He paused, and held up a hand for his team to do the same. One of the men looked around, before walking close.

"We're being surrounded...circle around back-to-back and prepare for an ambush."

"Yaeli?"

"No..." Nuri responded, eyes narrowing as he caught the sound of a low rowl, "...felines...most likely hunters...run them off, do not strike to kill. We don't need to anger the natives any more than we already have."

As his men fell back, Nuri had a feeling he'd be taking the brunt of things thanks to the noise before him. And he wasn't wrong. All at once, a bunch of creatures jumped out of the bushes on the small group of explorers. A few of the soliders gasped, but immediately began to strike out with their whips and shout loudly for the creatures to back off. Nuri, faced with three, took a moment to study them as they prowled close.

They were clawed, and had a wild look in their eyes. Immediately, he dismissed the idea of taming a few to take back; they seemed as if they wouldn't really settle well and would more likely cause some sort of animal overrun with Oba's local fauna. Their teeth alone were quite threatening that he didn't want to get near them, and so he pulled out his whip and prepared to run them off as well.

The three he faced were waist high, and after glancing to the side he noticed all seemed to be about that size. So he wasn't really sure which was male or female, but the thought wasn't a priority. For the first of the three moved to attack.

Nuri snapped his whip to the right, the creature dodging and hissing. The other two seemed to think ganging up on him would help, but he was quick with his whip and held his line. Naraka didn't make this trip, but behind him a radaku was stepping up and snapping its tail as well. They made a racket, and a few of the creatures backed off in confusion. The three, however, just hissed and spit and snapped at him again and again.

As some backed off and even ran away (a few got too closed to whips and had some welts to take home), some of the other fighters joined his side to take on a one of the three.

"Do we know what these guys are?" Nuri grounded out, trusting his companions to know more than him in this case.

"I think they are called Wirenth...nasty creatures even the locals make sure to avoid..."

Nuri understood, as even with them running the creatures off, they hissed and spit back at him again and again. He couldn't imagine what might have happened if he didn't have his allies and his whip. When the hissing was finally gone, the men and women let out rough and exhausted laughs.

"Maybe we should move to some open space..." He suggested, and everyone was all too willing to agree and get away from where they were.

[ BB ] Fight or Flight [ BB ]

[- Battle Located Here -]
[- 804 words -]
[- 21 Experience -]
[- Yael -]

There was a break in the scenery, that opened up to a field. The group of travelers paused for a break, setting up camp away from the wood and high up so they could look down upon the space. While they ate their dried meats, Nuri looked out and watched, enjoying the view and the experience he got from it. Nuri was always a tracker, he loved sitting outside of the city to watch the fauna. It was a peaceful experience, and even before he began to tame them he learned what he could about their general behavior.

To understand how they moved, how they hunted, how they lived, that was the true way to becoming a beast master. He still had so much to learn as he discovered more and more areas, creatures, and lands. He would never be a true master, even if the army considered him one. That's why he always took the time to sit back and observe.

And in this case, it seemed to pay off.

At first, the herd was far off, grazing in the distance and not moving too much. However, they seemed to drift throughout the evening, moving toward grass and the cliffs. They didn't get too close, as he was sure they would most likely have enemies in the woods, so he decided to try and get closer himself when the sun began to set.

His party was curious, but quickly dismissed him once they saw him chasing after the flighty unicorns of the land.

Nuri recalled seeing a few of these creatures used by the locals, often as a means for transport. They had sturdy legs, able to move through the terrain easily. In this case, the sturdy males were wandering about, the females sticking with the pack. All had spiraling horns from their forehead, beautiful and something a few of the more unsavory mainlanders had taken note of. If he were younger, he probably would have begged to get an army out here to stop the poaching.

Now, however, he focused on walking through the rock and grasses to get closer. Every so often they would perk up and look his way, in which he would freeze. It seemed as if they understood that something was coming, but didn't quite see him if he was still. He felt like he was stalking them, but he knew his intentions were pure. He wasn't looking to capture or tame, but simply to get close enough to witness behavior a bit more. If he could just get closer.

Suddenly, the wind shifted.

Suddenly, the grasses moved.

Suddenly, they noticed him.

A few perked and ran, horns gleaming in the light. Three stayed behind, the clear alphas of the herd and appearing none too pleased of his presence. They would most likely protect their herd, and ensure that the single creature before them would not get females or foals. He really was the weaker of the two sides, considering he was alone and they had massive hooves and sharp horns.

Letting out a sigh, Nuri moved to fully stand, and unwound his leather whip. One, the smaller of the three, twitched it's ears, and Nuri identified the weakest link. As the three snorted, Nuri snapped his whip close to the smallest, and it let out a startled gasp and fled like a bat out of hell. Then there were two.

These two were a bit more frustrated, and split down the middle to take a sort of Y stance. He knew he'd have to be smart, as they were fast and had a much more dangerous weapon. So, he used his voice to begin shouting. One lowered it's head, but the other seemed a bit startled, and he quickly took a jump toward it and snapped the whip high. It reared up, letting out a cry, before landing to the sound of another whip. It also darted, rushing back to the herd.

As he turned back toward the final one, it seemed to reconsider the fight. Here he was, making a loud noise that was snapping like lightning, and the creature clearly had no idea how to deal with it. However, it was large, an alpha, and had a herd to protect. Clearly, it was a debate it still hadn't resolved, meaning it was here in front of his. Again, it lowered its head and the sharp horn gleamed in Nuri's direction.

And then, it charged.

Nuri was not prepared, and let out a gasp before jumping out of the way. He could feel the ground shake, and thanked the gods he wasn't trampled. Instead he kept down, deep in the grass, as the creature huffed and sniffed around. It seemed to think he was gone, and let out a cry before heading back to his herd.

[ BB ] Great Dragon [ BB ]

This was it. They were standing in the caves, and the heat was immense. It was different than Oba, and Nuri couldn't help but feel the sweat on his brow. Around him, his men stood anxiously as they approached the den, waiting and wondering how this would occur. Before them, they could hear the breathing of the creature. Anxiety didn't begin to describe how they all were feeling.

All of a sudden, a roar filled the cave. He knew it was echoing, but still his ears rung as he looked ahead at the moving wall. It wasn't quite a wall, but thick scales and a hide that belonged to a large creature. It was like their war beasts, large and dominating and uncontrollable. As his mouth dried, he knew that they were severely outmatched. Instead of any sort of taming, or fight, they needed to make sure they got out alive so they could report to their superiors.

The creature before them roared one last time, the heat of its breath washing over them along with the smell of decay, before it began to crawl toward them. Immediately, the men snapped their whips and started shouting, the creatures hissing and roaring back. Nuri called for them to fall back, before stepping forward with his sharp whip. In this case, he knew that the blades wouldn't penetrate the scales, but they would do enough damage to deter the creature (hopefully).

They fell back as Nuri held the line, and eventually he struck the creature on a soft spot on its face. It hissed, and with that moment Nuri threw a torch one of his allies had to distract so he could run. They made it outside, and the captain shook his head.

"We need to get home. If the Yaeli can tame this beast, we may need to plan accordingly just to be safe..."

A warbeast indeed.

[ BB ] Stubborn as a...turtle? [ BB ]

[- Battle Located Here -]
[- 483 words -]
[- 21.75 Experience -]
[- Yael -]

They took the coast back for a few reasons. One was to avoid the feline creatures they ran into on their way through, the other was to enjoy a little bit of a clear air and nice view. The men and women of his group all took different paces, feeling no need to really rush as they processed what they had witnessed back in the volcano. Nuri, however, kept his pace as he wanted to get home and get to his pregnant wife.

As he walked, he spotted some floating foliage in the waves. It started off as a few, before gradually growing in quantity until it started to come ashore. It was interesting, and he walked by it until one such pile actually floated above the waters.

It clicked in his mind that this wasn't just foliage, but a creature, a turtle that was well known on the mainland. It was mostly the fact it had flora growing on its shell that caught everyone's attention.

And now he was looking at the slow-moving creature right in the eye. Tilting his head, he bent over to reach his hand out, watching as the creature moved forward slowly. It got close to his hand, before pulling back as if realizing it was not a fish or a meal. Nuri chuckled. This was much simpler than the dragon of the mountain.

Moving to his pack, he pulled out a dried fish they caught a few days prior, and held it out again for the creature. It leaned forward, and snapped around the food before slowly consuming it.

As the creature at the food, Nuri took out a rope and gently wrapped it around the creature's neck in a soft knot. It wasn't really resistant once it felt the first tug, but it also didn't follow willingly. Nuri was at a loss, as he couldn't just pull the surprisingly heavy turtle along with him. It wasn't until one of his peers appeared, who had previous experience with the creature, that they suggested food, food, and more food. Well, it seemed to work enough.

Nuri and his peer pulled out their fish, and as they walked the creature followed for a bit. However, it realized after awhile that it was being led away, and would stop until it was fed. Which meant, that they needed to keep feeding it every hundred yards for it to be satisfied to continue moving along.

"It seems to wait a bit longer each time..." Nuri observed after awhile, the rest of their group having surpassed them. He was anxious to get home, but couldn't pass up an opportunity to tame a creature. If he was lucky, the creature would eventually trust him to move along, and only need minimal feeding until they got to the ship. Then, he would let it lounge in his pool at home and entertain his children.
