An unexpected gift

Close to Rex's bed there was a long package waiting for him to wake up
There weren't any signs showing how it got in. The windows were shut against the winter cold and the door close

Inside there was a hoverboard and 2 notes
Package
User Image

First Note
It wasn't easy finding one fit for your weight but I hope you like it

Signed
- A friend

Second Note
Instructions:

Flying:
- Click on the blue button in the middle of the board to adjust its leght. The process is automatic
- Place each foot on the gravitational circles
- To start up the engine press foward and down with both feet
- Use front foot for direction and back foot for engine power and stability
- To turn the engine off press down with bothe feet and then foward with the front foot and backwards with the back foot
- Wait for the gravitational pull to shut off before removing feet
- Click on the blue button to retrieve it to compact mode

Maintainence:
- Store the board away from direct sunlight and moisture when not being used
- Do not use the board for more than 2 hours at a time to avoid overheating. Let it rest at least for 30 minutes before using it again
- Always clean it with a dry cloth
- Avoid contact with water

Warnings:
- Never start up the engine without both feet being on the circles
- The gravitational pull might cause slight nausea and headache to begginers. Avoid high speeds until accostumed
- A safety protocol will start if the engine is turned off in mid-flight. The gravitational pull won't shut off until touching the ground
- A stability protocol will start up if the board is in upside-down position for more than a minute

The more pressure applied on the circle with your back foot, the higher and faster the board will fly. But the bigger the pressure, the bigger the gravitational pull
And avoid flying over water. It's harder on the engine (because it can only detect solid masses. It's a weird law of physics that says: the bigger the distance, the bigger anti-gravity energy must be. And consequently will increase the pull on you)

BAM.

Not a very beautiful sound, especially in the first thing in the morning. And for the being that 'created' the miniature earthquake, it wasn't the best thing to happen in the morning either.

Lying stunned on the floor was Rexier Gaver and his twin brother, King the not-so-prehistoric reptile, wondering what had just happened. Thankfully the mishap fell forwards, so no harm was done to his conjoined twin. As the sound of thundering footsteps were heard approaching the room, Rex shook his head, groaned, and sat himself slooowly up on the floor.

What happened? King asked, half-stunned himself. The tyrannosaur let out a dizzy moan which faded away to a low chirr as his head throbbed, then faded.

Just then, the door to Rex's room was flung open. In hurried Silencer, accompanied by the smell of fried kuey teow, for she had been preparing that for breakfast until the loud bang. In an instant she was by Rex's side, fussing over the boy and tyrannosaur.

"Goodness Rex, are you okay? I heard a bam from your room, and... ohmygoodness what happened?"

"I'm okay, Mom." Rex cut in, brushing aside his mother's hand. King, meanwhile, rumbled away happily at the attention showered upon him. Mm, what could be better? "Just a little fall, nothing big." As if to convince Silencer he was truly fine, the boy grinned, and hopped onto his feet. "See? Nothing's hurting!"

For an answer, Silencer furrowed her eyebrows, and peered up her boy. "You sure?" she asked, disbelievingly. "How 'bout your feet? Better already?"

"Yep." The boy jumped about the room, and beamed down on Silencer as she laughed aloud and nodded.

"Definitely alright then. Now, what..." she began.

"Tripped me." Rex interrupted at mid-sentence, turning around to the place where the culprit laid. His face lit up as he saw a bundle, somewhat longish in shape and quite large in size. "Oh?"

Silencer, too, saw the mystery package, and scooted over to it. "Ah? She began, cocking an eyebrow at the object. "What's this, how'd it get here?"

Rex too, had no idea. The boy turned his head slightly at King's request, and shrugged, sitting himself down on the floor. Running a finger along the top of the package, Rex looked up at his mother with a puzzled and questioning look. "May I open it?"

"I don't see why not..."

Just then, a small bird of paradise, Leyrandia, fluttered in and made the human's head her perch, fluffing up just slightly at the temperature. Silencer, honey? Your fried noodle's burning. At which point the girl's eyes went wide. "AIYA!" Silencer made to get up, but was stopped by the angel, now a chuckling bird. Don't worry, I turned off the gas.

Relieved, Silencer muttered a thank you, and slunk back against her boy's bed. "You should have said that first, yanno." she said and fluffed Andi up, much to the angel's annoyance.

Rex laughed at the sight of puffy Andi, then returned his attention to the package and picked it. The boy shook the package and listened to any sound produced by said shaking. Then he gave it a quick rap with his knuckles. "Seems like a solid little thing." Looking over at his mother, Rex's face lit up as she nodded, and tore the wrapping off in no time at all.

What laid before him made him speechless, and rendered the room silent.

It was King who broke the silence with an excited chirp. He remembered the Birvan guy from before using a similar thing to fly around.

"Cool. A hoverboard." Leyrandia clicked her beak and returned to preening her feathers, unfazed.

"R-really?" Rex stammered, and finally managed to bring himself back into animation. Holding the high tech gadget up, the boy ran a hand down its entire length, marvelling at the design and sheer coolness of it all.

"Ya, it certainly is. The instructions are for one, that's for sure." Waving the larger note in front of her face, Silencer blinked as she noticed a smaller note beneath the packaging. Fishing it out, she read the note aloud.

"It wasn't easy finding one fit for your weight but I hope you like it. Signed, a friend" Oh? A friend? "Hey, looks like it is a gift. Who's this friend? 'Nother mishap? Or..." she trailed off, and peered at her boy teasingly, "A valentines gift from a sweetheart?"

"NO!" Came the instant reply. However, Rex did turn a slight shade of pink though - thankfully it went unnoticed. The boy knew who it was from, definitely, but how could he tell mother? Birvan told him never to tell other adults he'd met him...

"I dunno." Returning his attention to the board, Rex pretended to not know, and avoided looking at his mother.

Silencer laughed, and fluffed Leyrandia's tail feathers just to annoy the angel. But caught the hint she did at her boy's secretive behaviour, and she did not pursue further. Her suspicions though, did fall at the feather and the day Rex came home elated, as if the most wonderful thing in the world just happened. Motherly instinct kept her a little worried about this friend, but she was not going to spoil the morning for her child.

Breathing in deeply, the girl scrambled to her feet and announced, "Alright, wanna try it on?"

"Mm! Of course!
"Hrrr!"

Hee!

Rex zipped around (slowly) the house, floating from his room to the guest room to the kitchen back to the guest room to his mothers room and so on and so forth. The boy was having the time of his life trying out his new hoverboard which he cherished as much as basketball.

Also, the boy took every care to be extra slow and quiet everytime he was passing his mother's room.

As much as he'd love to go faster, the boy was just as content with his current speed. Which was not too fast, the reason being a slight nauseating feeling he and his twin had due to the gravitational pull of the board. The warning which came along the board was, indeed, true.

To King, the nausea and headache was more than annoying, and hateful. Thus the constant grumbles which accompanied the passing of Rex-on-hoverboard.

It was wonderfully fun, but if the speed could be cranked up just a little bit higher...

Grinning mishieviously to himself, Rex applied more pressure on the larger white circle with his hind foot, and the two boys shot forward, resulting in a gleeful 'whee' from one boy and a surprised yip from one dinosaur.

Zipping around the room, Rex dodged and flew over furniture, having the time of his life dodging imaginary enemies and navigating through rough terrain. The latter was as imaginary as the enemies, but what emerged from a cave hidden from view was more than made up.

It was Silencer, having just returned from the Castle. Stepping out of the portal beside the fountain/aquarium, the guardian was greeted by a loud yell from her right.

"WATCH OUT!!"

There was just time for Silencer to half-turn, before the flying tan figure made a sudden sharp turn to avoid a catastrophic crash, flying past her towards a... oh dear.

King yawned and stretched himself, having, as usual, woken up way before his twin 'human' brother. Looking around the room, the reptile contemplated on what to do. Strangely enough, his 'to-do' list was empty. Unusually, he was not feeling hungry.

Looking over to the digital clock on the side-table(King has learned, despite not being a human, how to read the time), the tyrannosaur chirruped at the time - two more minutes to wake Rex up, and he wasn't even feeling like getting out of bed. Ah, he felt lazy, and it felt good. Letting out a 'testing' rumble to Rex, who was sleeping on his belly, King decided not to wake him up just yet, and shifted to the side to settle both of them comfortably on the side. Oooh, lovely~

Just then, an idea came to the reptile's mind. Sure, it was no problem letting Rex wake up late, but why not try something else? Magic. Yeah. He had seen Rex, Mother and even the Gry-- what was his name again? --big dark blue bird-creature do this magic thing, but never really tried doing it himself. So... here goes.

King glanced at the clock and... focused? Yeah, that was what Rex did while doing magic. And so he focused, and pictured the number of the clock indicate fifteen minutes before seven. To his surprise, the numbers, and thus time, obeyed. Gone were the sounds of breakfast prepartion from the kitchen, and the sky was darker than earlier. King rumbled to himself, amazed at how easy the whole thing was.

A few minutes into lying in bed, King felt himself getting sleepy. With a yawn, the reptile closed his eyes and drifted into slumberland, oblivious to the damage he had just caused.

Location: Office [Blue Area]
Participants: Gryffenc, Jabir

---------- :: ~ :: ----------

A rather large, fur and feathered being strode up towards the closed office door. A moment later came three short raps on said door, and the creature retreated a step, sat himself down and waited, a picture of grandness and serenity despite the worry brewing up in its chest.

Jabir went to open the door as soon as he heard the raps. He was pretty sure everyone he knew knocked instead of rasping.

"Can I help you?" he said as he eyed the creature.

Of course, yes. Came a voice in Jabir's head, and the navy and black creature - a gryphon, to be exact, got onto his paws and bowed a greeting. The gryphon entered the office withouteven waiting for an invitation from the tall and slender being who had answered the door, stopped in the middle of the room, and turned around to face him.

You must be Jabir, I've heard about you from Rex and Silencer. Gryffenc began without even introducing himself, looking the man up and down. And they, are precisely why I am here today.

Jabir wasn't too surprised to be addressed telepathically, but more from being talked about.
But he had little time to think about that, for the way Gryffenc mentioned Rex and Silencer worried him.

"What happened?"

That, I am not sure myself, but both-- or rather, all three of them have been missing for a more than a week now. All I do know is that they are in this area. Strange, and worrisome thing is, there seems to be something wrong with the portal connecting the Criffelance with Rexier's room.

Gryffenc paused, and stared Jabir straight in the eye.

Somehow, it led to an empty void.

"What!? A week?"

His mind started racing in search of an explanation. There could be tons of things causing it, but without more clues he didn't had the faintest idea.

"Void... ". That would explain why he hadn't sense anything odd. It was one of the few things one had to be really close or actually in it to trace.

"Lets go. I need to have a closer look at this."

Gryffenc nodded. Come, then. To their room?

Without waiting for an answer, the gryphon glided(not the airborne glide, mind you) out of the door, pausing shortly to make sure Jabir was following, before bounding off in the typically graceful manner most, if not all, gryphons seemed to be bestowned upon.

"Yes."

Jabir quickly followed without a word.

"Kupoo..." whined the moogle as he flitted about twisting and turning throughout the hall, looking left and then looking right he tried his best to follow the directions given to him. Spotting the door out of the corner of his eye, the plump moogle flew over leaving an envelope taped to the door.

Upon emerging from the stairs, Gryffenc hesitated a little, overwhelmed by the sheer number of rooms, inhabited or not. He soon recollected himself, however, and made his way to the first row closest to the indoor garden, one on the left-had side.

The first room from the row was emitting a strange flow of magic. It had to be it.

Oh? Spotting a blank envelope taped onto the door, Gryff relieved the door off it, tore open the envelope with his beak, and read the letter 'aloud'. Dear Rexier, I'm very glad that... Well what do you know...

The gryphon refolded the letter and placed it, along with the card and envelope, under his wing and waited for Jabir.

It didn't took him long to get up the stairs and reach the right door. As he got closer he could feel the strange waves coming from inside

"It's a void alright, but..."

He placed his hand on the door, trying to get an accurate reading without stepping inside. He'd rather avoid doing so, since those lack of space could be quite unpredictable

It took him a while to realise what was wrong with the void. There was something else related to it, something he knew quite well for being a Space elemental, but which he rarely worked with

"Time was altered in here. That's why this space is empty, someone... or something removed it!"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 10, 2006 3:03 pm

No kidding? Gryffenc looked at Jabir in disbelief, before returning his gaze to the door before them. The gryphon bristled as he too felt waves of magic from the door. Magic which flow was different than what he was used to.

Is it... He began, hesitating a little, Is there any way to fix this? Gryff queried, his tail ring glowing with an eerie green light. Unless Jabir helps, there was positively no way he could do anything by himself.

"Nope, completely serious" he was too focused on the void to really pay attention to what he was saying, but he meant what he just said

It took a while to realize Gryffenc's question. "Yes... I can locate the center of the void, where the convergence is stronger nad thus easier to manipulate, but... I can't manipulate the time fabric. It's out of my skills"
