Christian huffed, though his eyes remained on his work, "You have so little faith in me. It hurts." That being said, Jun did seem to know what he was doing, and the few times Christian did allow himself to look up from his bowl he watched Jun work. But, he wasn't a novice either, and in a bid to prove this the blonde took the initiative to add in a pinch of salt to his batch. Nothing too overwhelming, but it would help to bring out the flavor of the dish.
"Maybe Cricket can be our taste-tester?" Christian suggested over his shoulder. "Give us an idea of how we're fairing so far." He would also offer himself up for such a prestigious title, but only because second opinions were always needed.

Waving away the powder field, Christian resisted the urge to pat himself down and try and clean his clothes off; that'd probably make things worse. "I'll try for that next time, boss." Flour was always... a bit tricky, or at least that was what he'd tell himself to make himself feel better. But it was an easily recoverable mistake and it wasn't long after that he was joining Jun in combining their bowls.
"Well, you can consider this to be your first 'fancy' attempt -- if we win, that is. Nothing fancier than getting a first place ribbon on your baked good." What were they even making? Cupcakes? A cake? A dessert that involved icing, that was for sure; he'd already seen the decorating table, further along. "What's your favorite dessert?" Christian asked, as he tilted the bowl at a 45 degree angle before he began gently tapping its bottom, it seemed an appropriate question to ask, considering their current activity.

Wary of making yet another mistake Christian was careful about pouring the batter into their mold, and with steady hands gripping the edges of the bowl he assured that not a drop was wasted. "That sounds great." To the point where he almost wanted that than whatever carnival food they'd be getting after this; but, then again, nothing could truly beat a heart attack on a bun. "You're a real, 'live off the land' kind of guy though, huh? That's pretty cool."
As naive as Chickpea was, he was still aware of social cues and body language, so he knew to stop talking about Dune's wings. "Ooh, holes?" Well, he hadn't even thought about that! "How deep would we dig them?" Hopefully, they wouldn't be so deep that they couldn't get out of them afterwards. He regarded Dune curiously, then looked up to where Ledian was flying; what was the view like, from that high? "It's probably because she could sense that you were in need of a friend," he guessed. "Plus, you're a really nice pokemon! So, it's only right that she be nice to you." Both Dune and Lady were nice, he was lucky to have met them.

MD held the smile on his face, even as Tay seemed to waiver on the idea. Admittedly it was a relief when she seemed to ignore the ranting and ravings of the street magician in favor of trusting him and the trick. He gave her and the pokemon who appeared from her hood an approving wink and had to refrain from a chuckle as she remarked that she didn’t know about the ‘miss-ticks’. Adorable.
"You can’t go wrong with nice people," he agreed, as he delivered the flame to her paw without paused. MD watched Tay as she observed the flame before snuffing it out per his instructions. Honestly, he considered sticking around longer to show her a few more tricks; it was hard to pass up doing so when you were dealing with an honest to goodness innocent who delighted in the art of the illusion, especially with younger people.
Still though, he couldn’t ignore the looming threat of the other magician and tragically, turned his attention to the man. At this point, the longer he stuck around, the more likely a vicious fight was going to ruin everything. And so, he decided that if he was going to really ruin this guys day, he’d do it with one final trick.
"Well, I think I’ve overstayed my welcome," MD commented out loud, quickly taking a look about at the crowd and then the magician. He was still all grins as he strolled over to the man, immediately latching onto the other’s cloak. "I best get disappearing huh?" The street magician sputtered again, trying to yank the cape away; MD instead kept his grip and gave it a tug, which was just enough to undo the cheap clasps that held the thing in place. Snapping it away from, MD twirled it over his head and stretched it between his hands like a sheet. "Remember folks, real magic speaks for itself. But hey, give this guy a hand all the same," he smiled again, the street magician going red once more.
"Why you-" The man sputtered again, immediately snapping out and latching onto his stolen cloak. MD’s grin didn’t fade and instead he yanked the cloak over himself like some kid trying to hide in their blanket right before the man pulled it away to reveal that MD was no longer again. Once again without smoke or mirrors, he caused a stir in the crowd, shocked that some grown individual had disappeared right in front of their eyes. Dresden and Sissil glanced between one another though with different reactions, both looking at the girl once more before excusing themselves from the crowd to locate their trainer.

Cricket's eyes god big and pleading when Christian suggested she taste test. She might not know what he said, but in this moment she knew what she had to do to get nums. "Not sure if that'd even work. You think she'll act any different if it's good or bad?" Jun was positive she'd just gobble anything up no matter what. Maybe she wouldn't mind a piece that was slightly burnt?
As Jun started taking the cooling sweets out of the pan and placing them on a cooling rack, he resisted the urge to snort at Christian's comment about fancy baking. "I don't really think this counts as anything fancy. The ingredients and techniques aren't anything special." Even if they did a fantastic job decorating, it wasn't like they were making anything that a kid couldn't make at home.
"Hey Cricket, this any good?" Jun asked. He tossed a cupcake into the air. Cricket squawked, snatched it with a click of the teeth, and swallowed it whole. "I'm...not sure how to rate that." She was licking her lips, so she probably liked it?
Jun shrugged when Christian asked what his favorite dessert was. "Not sure. Ice cream's pretty good. What about you?" He didn't look over as he asked, instead keeping his eye on cupcake he was currently adding frosting to.
At any rate, Jun finished off his decorating. The judges came by, and while his wasn't good enough for any of the top prizes, he did earn a pretty nice chunk of tickets. Plus they got to keep the cupcakes. He gave each of his pokemon one (Cricket got two, lucky girlie), and had one himself. "How'd yours do?" he asked Christian.
The people running the event said it was fine to not clean up, apparently they had a pokemon for that or something. Jun still make sure to fold up his apron and throw away their trash before leaving. "So, still hungry after that?"
[ "Deep enough so we can wiggle in and get comfy. Ahh, I m-miss sleeping in the ground. I can't do it when I'm traveling like this." ] A thought occurred to him then, of something that an elder had once told him and the other baby dunsparce about his travels. [ "Oh oh! You know what I want? I w-wanna go see a big b-beach and burrow in the warm sand!" ] Ohh, that sounded heavenly. This was the first time he felt excited about anything that might happen after leaving the cave! [ "I think you're too n-nice Chickpea. B-but if you say so..." ] He had a feeling he wouldn't be able to convince Chickpea one way or the other. He wasn't going to suddenly become good enough to be Ledian's friend just because Chickpea said so.
“Hm.” Christian hummed thoughtfully, before eventually shrugging. “Maybe, if it’s bad enough.” After all, they had burned their cupcakes at one point, an error he chalked up to a lack of attention on both their parts. With their pastry out of the oven and cooking, there wasn’t anything else they could do in that moment.
So, Christian took to leaning against the counter, and assessing the damage on his clothes. “It’s not the ingredients that make it fancy. It’s the time, effort, and end result that do.” That being said, Jun probably had a point. This attempt certainly wouldn’t qualify as fancy, if only because of the few mishaps that had already occurred.
He laughed at Cricket’s quick consumption, and nodded his head in approval in the gusto in which she ate. “Isn’t it obvious?” Christian turned to the bird’s trainer. “She loves it. Ten out of ten, for sure.”

Channeling his inner, world class, baker, Christian set to frosting his cupcake. It actually wasn’t turning out too bad, either! He was going for a ghost, hence the white frosting, and, at the very least, one could make out the shape of the spirit. “I’m a fan of the classics: chocolate chip cookies, though I love the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.”
He took a step back, taking in the full picture, then quickly piped out eyes and a grimace for the mouth. Christian nodded to himself, pleased, then added a dash of sprinkles for presentation. He thought it looked great! Blue ribbon worthy. The judge thought differently, however, and handed him a pile of tickets in lieu of a first place ribbon. Ah well.

Even if he hadn’t won, they were still allowed to keep their baked goods. And that was what truly mattered. Christian plucked one up, unwrapped another and gave it to an excited Chickpea, then bit into it. A dab of icing splotched his nose, and when he pulled back to examine the damage Christian saw that the ghost’s face had been caved in, along with smeared.
“Mine’s great!” Quickly grabbing a napkin, Christian wiped his nose clean and went in for another bite, carefully this time. “How’s yours?” Curious to see how his starter rated the cupcake, he looked down to find Chickpea having already demolished the dessert and now licking at the corners of his mouth; he looked satisfied.
Which was good, because so was he. Though a single cupcake wasn’t enough to— “What kind of question is that?” Christian shook his head, disappointed in Jun. “Of course I’m still hungry.”

His hunger confirmed, Christian joyously led the way over to gathering of food stands, all packed together in a semi-neat half-circle, then turned to Jun for his opinion. "What are you in the mood for?" Before the man could give his input, however, Christian perked up before thrusting his tickets into Jun's hand. "Almost forgot -- here's my end of the bargain." After all, he had promised his new friend tickets for food.
"Is sleeping in the ground really that comfortable?" Chickpea cocked his head to the left, thought it over, then tipped it over to the right. "Okay, yeah! We can do that!" He'd never even tried sleeping in the ground before, only on it, so this would be a new experience. Chickpea's eyes began to sparkle at the mention of the beach, and therefore the sea, a great expanse of salty water that he'd seen up close the few times he, and the other lab starters, had been let out to stretch his legs. "The beach is great! Though, I've never been to a big one before. We should see one together!" He closed his eyes, swayed horizontally, then started to hum. "Why thank you, Dune~" he chirped, midst muffled song. "And I know so!" It was clear Ledian cared about Dune, and that was what friends did, the former would just need a bit of convincing.

Tay for the most part was rather upset when the assistant had to leave, but she was also mesmerized by his way of leaving. She watched as MD said his last word and then vanished into thin air. Well, so the illusion would make you think. Tay was very much inclined to think he'd actually vanished, and in her mesmerized state she completely missed MD's companions exit the area and into the crowd. Thereafter the crowd began to loosen up as most thought the act was over, and most left because they were more interested in something else going on. Tay, not really a fan of the red-faced fake took her leave as well, spouting all sorts of nonsense about magic until they finally returned to Avikna.
At the same time, the trio of Aislin, Kezia and Fenrir returned. All of them found Avikna fast asleep, still tucked under Mave's wing. After ruffling her wing a bit however, Avikna was quick to wake up. "Avikna! Avikna!" Tay shouted as she rushed over to Avikna. Practically sliding in on her knees, the teen began to explain what she'd seen. "... And than POOF he vanished!" Tay exclaimed, spreading her hands over her head, again as if that were the proper gesture for something vanishing. "Wow..., Amazing..." Avikna replied, still trying to wake up. "It was! My favorite part was the fire!" The second time hearing that, Avikna was finally awake enough to register what Tay was talking about. "Wait, fire? Hold on, start at the beginning... you did what with a magician?" Tay's smile couldn't get any wider. "He made fire appear on his finger, than he let me hold it, and then, then I put it out." She repeated.
"Sounds like you had fun, great." Avikna replied, looking up to Aislin and her little posse. "What about you all, have some fun on your own?" Aislin grinned, showcasing a nice stack of tickets. Kezia held up the incense stick aswell. "I see. Great." Standing up the red-head took a moment to stretch out her body before taking the tickets, ignoring the stick Kezia held. "Avikna, what are we going to do next?" Inquired Tay from behind. The red-head turned around as she pushed Aislin's group's tickets in with her own. "Hmm... Well, there are a few activities we haven't done yet." Avikna replied. "I saw one earlier that looked fun." Tay smiled. "They were baking something!" She continued. Avikna's brow rose in wonder. She wasn't a fan of pastries. 'Whats the problem Avikna? You not a good baker?' Mave inquired. Avikna folded her arms at this remark. "I've never been the baking type. But why not, let's give it a shot."
With that, the group headed for the Halloween Treat activity, to which Avikna and Tay were prepped with Aislin and Kezia. They started out pretty decent, getting the ingredients measured and placed into a large bowl. Drys mixed with drys, then liquids mixed in afterward. It was looking pretty decent.

Well, it was going good. That was until adding the final ingredient, then something... something changed about the batter. It started to get clumpy and not in a good way. The current attendant noticed the clumpy mess, and suggested the group restart from scratch, making note of the ingedient portions listed on a piece of laminated paper. "Ohhh, I think I added to much of this." Tay mentioned. "Annnnd... this..." The teen chuckled. Surprisingly, Torin was actually able to find a place where they could get some decent sleep, despite the noise around them. Honestly, all the chatter, the laughter, the shrieks of fear and delight, the music and ambiance all melted into a background sound machine, crowding around the tent they were in, but never quite making it all the way in.
