Triton held his head high, he was after all a strong swimmer, he has been born to the pride and as such had been raised in the waves. The cub he had been handed by Ram sat against his chest, it's tiny paws in the air, he could feel her shivering and frightened and it made him angry to think she had been out there soaked and floating. His paws soon found the soft sand of the shore and he bolted through the water making his way up the beach to a clump of lionesses. Healers and dry soft sand.

Laying down slowly before the females he slowly laid the tiny bundle of damp fur on the sand. He realised his jaw hurt, he'd never carried a cub before, he'd never carried anything so precious.

Turning his gaze to the lionesses "is she okay?" He mumbles his light green eyes flickering between the females hopefully.

Sagasu thanked her lucky stars, every God she'd ever heard about and her ancestors that she managed not to hit any rocks or get pulled towards them. She certainly did not appreciate being given orders by a male, even one who ruled a pride, but there were more important things to worry about at this point. Namely, the little cub that was now holding on to her back with tiny claws.

"Don't worry, little Sister. We'll be there in no time."
She said softly, trying to keep her voice steady and confident.

They reached land quickly and Sagasu grabbed the girl by the scruff and brought her over the breaking waves. She dropped the cub in the sand, getting a few instinctive licks in to dry her up and then backed away so that the lions she guessed were the healers could have a look at her. It surprised how difficult it was to take hat little step back, feeling a good amount of attachment and possessiveness for the little cub all of a sudden.

User ImageThe offer for whatever it was that Desher had in his own paws made her halt a moment. Did she want to trade for it? It was the tiny bird who went from Yawo's back to her and whispered to her to keep the shell. "No thank you Desher. I think this will suit me better and that for you." It was the cry for help that made her drop the shell and just head towards the sound. Or at least somewhat as she sensed others. Were those... cubs? She needed to lend a paw as was her duty to this pride.

"How can I be off assistance." She recognized the scent of the one who first led them on the tour. "Eade." The faint heartbeat of the small cub he had. She was worried, what had happened? Where they playing and things had gone wrong? Where were their parents? If she needed to she'd have Fionnan find her the things she needed if things took a turn for the worse.

---

User ImageAdetokunbo grinned at Eade. Then things seemed to move so fast. At first he was being told he was lively and then there was yelling, then Eade was running off. What was happening? He was so confused. Yang had noted the lion on the rocks and it was the first time he had even noticed. He followed Eade, just barely behind when a cub was given to him. "Are they ok?" Watching a few cubs get rescued now.

He was pleased that the bird helped Lani decide to keep her shell. If she'd wanted the carving he would have given it to her, but he was going rather partial to it. The prizes were quickly cast into shadow as events unfolded out in the ocean waters. Desher couldn't handle swimming yet by a long shot. He felt helpless as he watched others running into the waves after the king. However, there was something he could do.

"Seems like there's trouble in the water Lani. They'll need you." He leaned his shoulder against hers and headed at a very fast walk down to the shore line. They needed a healer and she was one. Once there, he moved aside to make room and watch.

Eade paddled swiftly out behind a couple of others. He gasped when he spotted the cubs on the driftwood and nearly swallowed a mouthful of water himself. The male tucked the tiny cub firmly into his mane. "Don't let go!" He turned and headed back toward the safety of shore. It was much faster going back than out as the waves helped. Once he felt sand beneath his toes he headed toward two familiar lions coming toward those rescuers.

He forged through the waves towards them. "Desher! Lani!" Eade carefully pulled the little male off his back and set him before Lani. He didn't know what to do and shifted restlessly from foot to foot. "Anything I can do to help?"

Yang from his vantage point spied the others who'd run into the waters coming back. "Hey they're back!" He called for Ade's benefit. "They got cubs too!" He sounded impressed. The adults had brought cubs outta the ocean! It was magic! Was that how he'd been born? Everyone seemed so stirred up though, that it didn't seem normal. Of course he'd just been born, so who was he to say what was normal or not?

Dagr nodded, moving to one side and allowing her to take the lead. The weather was pleasant and the hubbub of the gathering burbled pleasantly in his ears as they walked.

As they grew closer to the stalls and other activities, he glanced around, trying to pin-point anything that seemed more interesting than others, "anything catch your eye?"

He heard the rise of glee as someone won something and turned his head to see what it was.

---

"Mshauri is a good rank. It seems you've already begun the duties unofficially anyway," he continued, referring to the conversation where she had already helped him so much with his own powers despite not yet beginning to research the power of being a seer.

"Is there anything you fancy doing here? Or we could go and swim? The sea looks particularly calm today."

He beamed at her, "your choice! I'm happy so long as you are."

Ram was the last of the lions to climb ashore, and he was relieved to find that each who had came to his aid had successfully brought the cubs to safety. It was at this point that he set his shivering cub beside its siblings and turned to the healers who were waiting expectantly on the shore - he could already see some expressing concern and knew better than to stand between them and their ministrations.

"Take them to the dens, somewhere warm and quiet," he said, spitting out some of the water that had gotten into his mouth. "Let them settle their nerves for a time, have food if necessary," he shook his head after a moment and offered a half smile to the healers. "I apologise for stating the obvious," he added, in reference to his set of instructions that they probably knew better than anyone else!

"However I cannot stress the importance of not pressing them for information at this time, let them rest," he cleared his throat and finally turned his attention back to the volunteers who had come to his aid. He knew some of them, but he didn't know all of them, and surmised that they had come from further afield. They may not have necessarily come for the festivities, that was simply lucky timing, but they had already done far more than was really expected of them.

"You have my sincerest gratitude," he glanced at each in turn and then bowed his head a touch. "You have saved a great many lives today," he paused and glanced about him. "You are most certainly welcome here at any time, if you need to dry off I am certain you will be offered one of the dens to warm in until you are more comfortable again."

"But I must offer my apologies, I need to locate my mate as a matter of urgency..."

He had only glanced briefly at the tiny offspring, but even then he had seen their pale blue coats. It was as if they had spawned from the very sea themselves, quite a turn up for the books given the celebrations.

Hima had watched everything go from fine to concerning in a matter of moments. Ram had jumped off the ledge of rock with a cry and for a moment her blood had run cold, thinking he had slipped rather than launched himself. When it became clear that he was swimming for something her worry left, but only a bit. She remained on the land, not nearly a strong enough swimmer yet to go out and help.

Once Ram emerged from the sea she made her way slowly to him. Cubs had been what caught his eye, and it seemed there was a fine mess of them now. She approached her mate with a critical eye, scanning him for injury. When it became apparent he was simply soaked to the bone she relaxed a bit more.

"I wasn't aware diving into the sea and being all heroic was part of the ceremony," she said a bit wryly. "A majestic feat, Ram, even if you look like a rat that's been clinging to a log for weeks at sea."

Ah, the fond words of a mate. There was concern behind her words, though, and her eyes held the bit of worry that she was hanging on to.

"Swimming seems fun," Udayi said with a little grin, followed by a laugh. "Ah, Kari, ever the charmer. It's a bit worrying your happiness hinges on mine," she said with a teasing grin as she headed for the sea. The commotion on the shore made her pause, though, as a hoard of lions gathered around....something.

"Oh...what's going on?"

Kimaria

---

Starfire had seen the whole event unfold, but she had remained on the sand. This wasn't for her to interfere with after all. She was simply here to observe. She kept her golden eyes open, though, taking in everything there was to see. This would be a grand story to tell to the pride when she got back, that was for sure! Her mother had told her the ruler of the Bahari wasn't one for parties or fun, but he certainly seemed to be quite the brave and heroic sort, rescuing a pile of cubs during his own ceremony. Fantastic!

Just ahead of Ram, Zamir had deposited the cub on shore. His dark coat was soaked through, his mane water-logged, but he only shook it off. He was immediately pressed into by his mate, her white and orange coat getting soaked by his own. "You don't need to worry about me, Aiko." He smiled at her, affection reflecting in his eyes. "I'm not THAT easy to take down, and if the sea didn't want me here, it would have rejected me by now." Still, he had to wonder. Where had those cubs come from?

Her heterochromatic gaze followed the cubs as they were taken to the dens, confusion on her face. "Where did they come from?" Other than, of course, the sea. She looked at the other lions around, wondering if any had answers. She wondered, did anybody have any ideas?

"I think it's obvious..." Paws still in the water, Azat stared out at the horizon. "They came from the sea." She looked over at her sister-by-mating, head tilting. The smallest tuft of hair danced in a slight breeze. "They're... Actual children of the sea." Her gaze soon returned to the sea, taking in the waves. "At least, that's what I think." It was the best answer she had, at least.

"Charmed, as always..." he replied to Hima once he had caught his breath. He could always rely on her to bring him back down to earth by reminding him of reality. He no doubt looked utterly ridiculous, most certainly a drowned rat, but...

"To be fair," he sucked in a breath and then motioned to the small cubs who were being delicately moved to safety and warmth. "Those are drowned rats, I look bloody stunning in comparison," he pointed out and clucked his tongue. "All wind swept, apparently the wet-hair look is supposed to be attractive," he added, giving her a pointed stare that clearly indicated he was totally down with the kids and knew exactly what they were talking about.

A lie of course, he was an old fart in many respects.

"On the plus side I think I succeeded in the ceremony, I didn't get knocked off so, there's that," he smiled warmly, clearly proud of himself and then winced. "I think I might have pulled a muscle," he murmured. "Showing my age..."

Euphyrates couldn't help but laugh as Afina put his father in place... For all Xenon's tough visage he was most certainly not in charge when it came to most things. If anything, his father let his mother walk all over him simply because he enjoyed spoiling her rotten! At some point in his life, he hoped to find the same type of companionship, but for the time being he would admire what his parents had.

...Or rather he would have if it wasn't for the sudden burst in activity by the shore.

With a small 'hm?' of curiosity he wandered away from his parents to find out what was going on, though it seemed the initial commotion was over for the most part.

Xenon on the other hand, was large enough to see over the reams of lions, and both brows had promptly raised at what the volunteers had deposited on the shore.

"He found cubs," he mused as he patted his mate's shoulder gently. "And they look just like the ocean, it's almost like they were crafted from the water..." he added with a chuckle. Really, it was all very prophetic in that respect.

"I forgot how small they all start out."

As he watched the Cubs get taken away Triton slowly backed up he found it hard to take his gaze off the cubs, he needed to protect them, but he knew that he could do no more, he wasn't a healer after all. In reversing and not paying attention to his surroundings he bumped butt-first in to the soft pink lioness. "I'm sorry." He mumbles absentmindedly all of the worry about giving her personal space was gone, completely washed away by the Cubs that had been born from the sea. "Where do you think they came from? They looked like the waves themselves gave birth to them, but...but they were flesh and blood." He shakes his head in disbelief, he had been raised on legends of the sea and this was clearly a legend in the making.

------

The dark lioness smiled at Dagr, she knew of course that he was trying to help her, but her usual confidence felt almost flattened by the hullabaloo. She didn't turn though she wanted to return to watching over the pride she knew she w old have to integrate properly sometime. This was probably the best time to do it, to properly join the pride as a whole. "I don't know, I'v never played these games before, what would you recommend?" She tilts her head curiously, she really needed some help here, she had no idea how to play games really, they weren't things that rogues did.

------

Afina watched as her son wandered away to check the activity. "Cubs from the sea?" She mused looking up at her large mate. "It sounds just like the old legend. The first lions of the Bahari'mtoto rose from the waves." She chuckles gently although she quickly shook her head. She was a little superstitious, it was a part of the culture she had been brought up with, the sea was to be feared, loved and respected, but the idea that Cubs could be born from the waves was a little silly, even to her. Perhaps that was because she was a mother and she knew exactly where they came from and it was far from a poetic experience. "I fear the poor things are anything but a prophecy. Who would do that though. I can't imagine." She shivers tucking herself in closer to her large mate.

She turns her head up and licks Xenon on the cheek "Do you remember when they were all tiny? Before they became the big lumbering louts they are now?" She sighs a long gentle sigh. "I miss that."

As the cubs were let away carefully by the healers, a low murmuring settled across the shore. While it was not the sort to cause unrest, or to disrupt the festivities further away, it certainly would have indicated to those visiting that something wasn't quite right. Where the cubs had come from was of great interest to those who had been given the opportunity to glimpse them as they came ashore.

A delicate blue, and patterned as though they were the waves themselves, the cubs looked every bit a part of the ocean as they did flesh and blood. For the Bahari'mtoto, this would have been one of the most curious events to have occurred since the tsunami all those years ago. After all, it was said that the first of the Bahari'mtoto sprung up from the waves themselves, born of the very water they lived by now.

While a realist would note that cubs generally weren't born in this manner, it was most certainly curious that such cubs would be swept ashore now at a time of celebration. Not only had it seemed as though the waters had accepted their new King, but they had also provided the pride with new life as well. Combined with the festivities of the new found union of the King and his mate, it really was a rather fortuitous series of events.

Still... with no identity or history, the cubs remained a true mystery and their fates for the most part, were most certainly in the hands on the King.

While the blue lion seemed to be distracted by the jests of his mate, Hima, at this precise moment in time... It should have come at no surprise that the expectations of the elders of the pride, would be that he would at least announce how they would be cared for once they had settled a touch.

Alas, for the time being the murmurs of legends and prophecies continued to creep along the shore lines as Bahari pondered, and visitors were educated, to the significance of these tiny arrivals...

Quote:
Out of curiosity and of no relevance to....anything.... does Triton have a mate?

She was so upset at having the little cub gently removed from her grasp that Sagasu barely noticed the touch but she did turn and lean slightly against the male, rubbing shoulder against him distractedly, as if he were one of her Sisters. Obviously, the recognition came quickly after but she made no show of it, feeling a little uncomfortable at the physical contact.

"They are a gift from the Sea, surely. A good Omen of things to come." She said as if trying to quickly change the earlier line of thought, an anxious flick of her tail the only sign she was still a little uneasy. "The Sea takes more than it gives, we should not ignore it when something so precious is given to us."

Well, at least the cubs looked alright, though she’d yet to hear them speak. Sagasu would’ve liked some reassurance that thy were alright.

Kari gave her a bashful smile, dipping his head low enough that the mane dropped forward to cover his eyes. He liked to hear her laugh and see her smile, yet sometimes he thought he was making a fool of himself!

Still, in a moment, his embarrassment was all but forgotten.

The atmosphere down by the sea was not what he had expected to find. There was no catch of laughter on the air or lions splashing in play. It was tense and raised voices and his heart surged with fear to see it.

"Nothing good," he replied, "come, let's see if we can be of assistance." He hastened his step across to the sands, raising his voice to call across to any of the lions who looked troubled.

"I'm a healer. Can I be of any assistance?"

---

"There's a game I used to play a lot as a cub, let's see if we can find it." Thankfully it did not take him long to locate the one he sought. "Here, it's simple enough."

He indicated a ring created with pebbles and shells set a good lion-length away and positioned himself behind a line drawn in the dirt. Hunkering down, he gathered up a small nut from a pile that had been placed nearby and, squinting with concentration, flicked it through the air.

The nut flew far over the circle - the target - and was lost amongst the grasses.

"Hm, apparently I'm out of practise. Here, you have a try."

Hima watched as the cubs were brought away to dry out and get something to eat before turning back to her mate once again. She moved in to inspect his water-logged mane, leaning in to pick some seaweed out of it that had gotten lodged in there.

"You didn't? That's a relief. I thought you had fallen in," she said, spitting out the salty green stuff. "Oh, you big whiner," she added with a little snort even as she gave him an affectionate nuzzle. "If it's still aching later I'll see what I can do to help it settle down. Old lion," she finished, an amused look on her face.

Udayi trotted after Kari, looking around at those on the shore. No one looked hurt, thankfully, but a bundle of cubs was being swept away back into the trees and Ram was looking rather water logged.

"So...did...those cubs just pop up out of the sea?" she asked, looking at her friend with wide eyes. "How did they survive? I thought cubs weren't allowed to swim in the sea?"

Kimaria

Starfire listened to the whispers and words that passed from mouth to mouth. A blessing, they were saying. A sign of good will and luck. Cubs born from the water. Surely it meant good things to come for the pride. She was glad to see no one was hurt, just a bit wet, and as she walked through the lions she picked up on all the little stories and whispers. This would definitely be interesting to bring back home to share with her pride.

Triton swallowed hard, his light green eyes finally moved to settle on the pretty pink lioness at his side. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to encroach." He almost stepped away but she seemed to find comfort against his side. He wasn't really sure what to do. Except for his sisters, no female had ever come to him for reassurance or protection before. "Our culture, the Bahari'mtoto, the history of our pride, this is how it was born, from lions granted from the waves." He swallows hard a small furrow in his brow. Yes, it was a good omen and for it to happen as the new King was taking his place. Perhaps something amazing was about to happen.

The very large pale lion slowly lowered his head, his gaze was perfectly steady, his eyes fixed squarely on the light pink female. "I want to go and make an offering to the sea, I want to, I want to be sure they are okay will you come with me?" He felt guilty suddenly, he was asking someone from outside the pride, someone who knew little of their culture to come and do something entirely for his own benefit. "I understand if you don't want to.." He mumbles lowering his ears in to his mane, for the first time in his adult life the young male felt exposed. He didn't know quite what to do but he had a feeling he needed to take Sagasu with him it felt like she was good luck.

-----

Leviyathan followed the male through the crowed, her tail swaying gently until they came to a stop. She watched as he attempted to flick the nut at the target and couldn't help but giggle when it got lost. "I think perhaps you just don't know your own strength."

She smiles and positions herself as Dagr had, picking up a nut she levelled her eyes on the target ahead, she flicked the nut and watched it sail to the right of the target. She laughs at herself and looks up at Dagr "it's not as easy as it looks is it?"
