Dagr rolled onto his stomach and yawned wide, blinking blearily into the late morning sunshine. Further inland the temperature would have been considered far too hot to do much of anything, but with the ocean breeze pulling at his mane, it made moving far more bearable. Still, he had to yawn for the second time before he got up onto his paws and began a steady tread out across the land where sand became grass and earth.

Leaving behind the call of gulls and crash of waves, he started to feel the pulse of the sun on his back. The seaside pride he had been born in was a bore at times, but the climate was rather wonderful.

Not that his brother would agree, of course. Kari was the opposite from him in almost every way and he loved his pride more than anything in the world. Sometimes Dagr envied him that. Life would be far better if he could be content with what he had instead of chasing after dreams that were barely even formed in his head.

User Image The same sun beat down on Udayi as she walked through the rather stubby grasses. She was used to the long, flowing grasslands of the Pridelands, but after leaving the fertile land she had come to realize not everywhere was as beautiful as her father had made it out to be. Curiosity and visions had driven the lioness away from her home and, while she missed her family dearly, there was something in her that made her paws continue to move her further and further from what she once called home.

Her father's stories had fueled the fire that had set her off on her grand journey. Listening to stories of jungles and forests and mountains and oceans had certainly made for interesting dreams as a cub, but when those dreams started becoming visions it was clear what she had to do.

And so here she was, roasting in the sun as she walked on. Her visions directed her where to go, but she had no idea where exactly her end destination would be. She had noticed the vegetation changing as she continued in the direction she had set off in. First it had been lush and green, then dry and dead, and now it was green once again but very small and hardy. There was a breeze from time to time that smelled rather strange, and at times it blew quite strong. Perhaps that was the reason for the stunted plants?

Lifting her head, Udayi squinted against the strong sun. A scent had reached her nose on the light breeze that occasionally blew, letting her know a lion was ahead. So far her meetings on this trip had been pleasant and she hoped this one would go over well as well. She continued in his direction, amused by his curled fur as she drew closer.

"Hello," she called out as she got within earshot. "Lovely day, isn't it?"

He lifted his head and squinted against the sun. A dark lioness was ahead of him and not one he immediately recognised. He supposed, after a moment, that he was far enough out that the possibility to bump into a rogue was there.

"If you like to feel the sun burning your back, sure," he drawled, coming to a slow halt and turning a little so that he could see her better. Hm. Yes. She was rather striking, to be fair. Her dark colouration contrasting against that white and grey. The dapples along her spine reminded him of the froth of the sea against the shore. Pretty.

"I take it you're not from around here?"

Udayi had to laugh softly at the male's comment. Wasn't that like every day, though? She tilted her head just a bit as he turned and she paused a few paces from him, flicking her gaze over his shoulder for a moment to see what was beyond him.

"No, I'm not," she said, returning her dark gaze to the male. She gave him a little smile, her tail flicking back and forth. "I've been traveling for a while now, actually. Something about this direction has been calling me. Perhaps it was you," she teased, giving him a flirty bat of her lashes before peering past him once more. Something within her told her no, it wasn't the lion but rather a specific place. Still, he didn't need to know that. Her father's flirtatious ways had certainly been passed down to her and she saw no harm in it.

"Do you live around here?" she asked, still staring off beyond the male. "Is there a pride nearby?"

Something was calling her? Destiny? Him? He exhaled sharply, amused at her declaration. Still, it was the first time a lioness had flirted with him - even if it was in jest. Perhaps this day wouldn't be so bad, after all. Rogue meetings were few and far between and they'd never been of this tone before.

"I doubt it was me -- unless you like your lions with an edge of unpredictability." He flashed her a toothy smile, then gestured over a shoulder with his muzzle. "Not too far from here. I hail from Bahari'mtoto down by the sea. The air is cooler there." The climate was one of the only good things about the place. "So are most of the lions."

He gave a shrug, "I am one of the pride's guards. If you cause trouble," he warned with the hint of a smile, "I have to put an end to it."

Udayi flicked her gaze to the other lion, an amused smile on her muzzle. "Unpredictability is exactly why I left my pride. It was far too boring a life there when my father had told me all these stories about the rogue lands and other prides." That wasn't to say pride life itself was boring, but nothing ever happened in the Pridelands. It was safe, there was always food and water, it was massive...she longed for fun and new experiences, and that certainly wouldn't happen in the shadow of Pride Rock.

As he spoke of the sea her ears pricked up in interest. That must have been the strange smell. Her father had found the sea just once in his travels and said it was beautiful, even if it was strange. All that water and you couldn't drink it...

"I can feel a breeze occasionally," she agreed, once again peering beyond the male. "Bahari'mtoto," she murmured, but the name didn't ring any bells. She looked back to the male as he proclaimed himself a guard and moved forward, stopping just before him with a teasing smile.

"Will it be trouble if I ask to come in and visit?" she asked, flicking her tail back and forth. "I've heard of the sea and I'd love to see it."

"Ah," Dagr replied knowingly - flashing her a toothy grin in response. Boredom was such a terrible thing and so difficult to cure. What did one do when they were bored but they didn't want to leave their family behind for adventure? He might have played indifference but deep down he cared for his kin.

"Visit?" he gave a dismissive shrug. "So long as you're escorted, I don't see the issue. Just don't get any ideas about causing trouble, ok? That's my job." He shook his mane and gestured for her to follow him, padding across the prickly grass and back down towards the shore.

"So where did you come from, exactly? You just decide to head in some random direction until you bumped into something interesting, or what?"

"I thought your job was to end trouble," Udayi said with a little grin of her own. She was lucky to find someone so easy to talk to, she knew. While her father had told her about all the wonderful things in the rogue lands, he had also warned her about the dangers that lurked there. Not everyone was friendly or wanted to talk.

As they headed towards the salty smell of the sea, Udayi took in her surroundings. She had already noticed how different the plants were here, but with each passing step she began to realize the ground felt different as well. Less packed, softer...it still wasn't leaving pawprints behind her when she walked as it had at the edge of a large lake she had stopped by a few days ago, but it certainly wasn't the rocky, hard soil she was used to walking on.

"I come from the Pridelands," she said as the male asked. "And I told you, something has been calling me. I'm not sure what it is. My visions are strong but sometimes they're a bit cryptic."

Her gift had been hard for her to grasp when she was little, but the more visions she had the more she could figure it out. They came mostly in sensations rather than pictures, and something about traveling east had left her feeling loved, happy, and excited. And maybe a little bit of adrenaline, too.

"Oh, I'm so rude. My name is Udayi," she said, realizing she had yet to introduce herself. She looked up at the male with a little grin once again. "And what is yours, good sir? I like to know the names of handsome lions."

"Oh," he grinned, "I do end trouble - just sometimes I start it as well." The feeling was mutual, it seemed. Dagr was uneasy around most other males - almost as if constantly competing with them. He didn't have that much experience with females, either, and most that he knew were already involved with someone else, anyway.

He watched her from the corner of his eye as they moved further towards the sea. He wasn't really a believer in 'love', let alone 'love at first sight', but there was a stirring in his chest that drew his interest. Perhaps it was her energy. It was hard not to pay attention to someone with an out look like hers. He envied it, in a way. If he could be like her then life would be far more interesting and enjoyable.

"Visions?" He tried not to let it show that her words had startled him, but they certainly snapped him from his reveries. She was one of those seers, then? The realisation made him feel uneasy, though he wasn't sure why. It was a 'gift' he was all too familiar with. A 'gift' that could be viewed in other ways entirely. He was so caught up in thought that he almost missed her name - snapping back to attention at hearing it.

Udayi.

"Dagr," he replied with amusement, "my mother liked to give her children short names - especially the most handsome ones." He laughed then, trying to shake off his earlier unease. "Look there. The ocean." He continued as they reached the crest of the land which dipped sharply downwards into sand. "You're in Bahari territory now, so be on your best behaviour, else I'll have to throw you out," he teased.

"Dagr," Udayi repeated, a little smirk on her face as he went on. "Do your siblings have short names as well or were you the only one blessed with good looks?"

As the male motioned before them, she paused to stare out over the land. In the not-so-distant distance she could see the sparkling shine of the sea in the sun and the sand that lay where the earth ended and the water began."

"Oh...it goes on forever," she said softly. No lake she had seen looked like this and it was absolutely breath taking. "Can you go in it?" she asked, looking at Dagr with delight. She enjoyed swimming from time to time, but water as big and endless as that was mildly terrifying. She loved it.

"Don't ask me. I just see snotty-nosed brothers and sisters when I look at them." He laughed, "especially my twin - though he does have a short name."

He took a moment to let the view sink in, remembering his first glance of the ocean as a young cub. It had been an intimidating but exciting thing - wild and unpredictable at times. For all that he craved some sort of adventure, he did love the sea and its qualities. Or perhaps it was that he did not find his home as boring as he seemed to make out.

"You can," he replied, "the sea is good for swimming but not so good for drinking -- well, who knows, you might like it." He chuckled inwardly. He doubted anyone would like the taste of the sea. He had tried it and it had made him retch. "On calm days, the sea is a good place to be. There'll likely be other members down there at this time making the most of it."

"Twin?" Udayi said, pulling her gaze from the sea to grin at Dagr. "I'm a twin as well. Identical except for our eye color," she added with a little nod. "She didn't get that same wanderlust bug that our father accidentally instilled in me, though. She's quite happy at home." At least, she assumed she was. She missed her siblings quite a bit while out and about, but the call of adventure and finding new places like this was too great to ignore.

She started forward again, eager to experience the sea with all of her senses rather than sight alone. And maybe not taste. "Wonderful. I'd love to meet more of your pride. Perhaps your twin?" she asked with a hum. "If he's identical he must be handsome as well."

Kimaria
Totally forgot she's a twin too until this very moment >XD I don't think her sister was rolled for seer though. And Udayi wouldn't want to share her twin lovers anyway. Greedy little girl XD

"No kidding?" Dagr shook his head with mild disbelief. A twin as well - though it seemed her counterpart was also rather different. "We look alike - he a murky green where I am red. He's not one for trouble, my brother. He likes to sit at home and use his brain all day."

He leaned in a little closer, "He likes to say it as if he thinks I don't use mine."

After a moment, he continued, "we can go meet him if you like. He's a predictable lion so he won't be hard to find - then you can judge for yourself."

SilverLutz
Hahaha this is so much fun. These two seem to have really hit it off, as well *3*

"Murky green where you're red...makes sense if he's the more intellectual one and you're the one out making mischief," Udayi teased. "There's nothing wrong with being brainless as long as you have the looks to back it up~"

She flicked her tail to swat Dagr's leg before heading off in the direction he had indicated. "I think I'd like to meet this twin of yours, see for myself which one is more handsome. And then the sea."

Kimaria
I think we can call this one finished and have her meet Twin Two!
