Just a quick announcement!

There's been a slight change. . . I realized I'd forgotten to add for The Player the option of being a bard! It would make sense since he'd be allowed to roam and travel and both weave stories as well as learn other stories and talents to bring back to the pride.

So . . . anyone who has already submitted an entry, you ARE allowed to go back and edit your form if you find the option of being a Bard more appealing than one of the others earlier mentioned.

Otherwise. . . yeah.

Sorry, my brain must have been on fail mode when I posted things.

Won't You Be My Melancholy Baby?
.:For The black and teal edited lioness:.
Username: Zephira738
SoA Name & Meaning (if applicable): Thulili - A South African name meaning 'she is quiet'
Rank in the Pride: I’d loooove her to be Secret Keeper
Is she diseased, a carrier or immune? An unknowing carrier
How old do you see her as? Somewhere around the human equivalent of her late thirties or early forties
Personality: She comes across as cold, this quiet and withdrawn lioness. All are held at arm's length, her heart too broken to easily accept another within for fear of losing them again. She is paitent and calm, endlessly calm, but mostly because she has been so hurt that there is almost nothing left. But what is left...is kind. It is buried and walled off, a precious little flicker of life and love that waits to be stroked into a roaring flame once more. She takes her responsibilities seriously, and is well suited to her position in the pride...though no one will ever know how closely she keeps this secret to her heart.
What has her life been like up until now? Tell me this girls story. . . :

Once upon a time, I was happy.

Soft teal eyes gazed blankly across the wide expanse of earth rolling away before her, the sky muted and grey with barely a break in the clouds to shatter the monotony. Once, a long, long time gone it seemed. Ragged black ears lay back against the lioness' skull as her eyes closed briefly. She could see them still, all of them, painted in color, in life, within her mind's eye.

When she and her brother had been born, they didn't have a father. There was no male to protect them, no one else to help them, and mother had struggled always. But they had had one another. Brother and sister and mother. There was never much to eat, but there was enough. They never had a home to come back to, but she didn't miss what she didn't have. She didn't need anything else. Her family had been enough for her. But it didn't last.

The dark lioness' brow furrowed at the memory that tainted the semblance of life she'd dreamed behind her eyelids. She couldn't remember what had happened, not exactly. But it had been terrifying for her as a young lion. Little more than a cub, the blind panic, the harsh coppery scent of blood, the throbbing pulse of her heart as it seemed that it would surely burst from her chest... even now it was so clear. So easy to recall the feelings. Mother had belonged to a pride once, and had fled it for the sake of her pale son, or so Thulili had gathered later. Even if it was just a guess, knowing...knowing why it had happened...it helped. Almost. Not enough though. It was never enough. Nothing had been, not once they were gone. It was a mistake that she escaped the wrath of the hunters that came seeking their twisted justice. In the dark of night, stumbling and falling over the rocky ground, she'd somehow evaded notice. Or maybe they simply didn't deem her important enough to bother with. Whatever the reason, they could not have possibly hurt her more than they already had. Everything was gone now. And the young lioness was lost without them.

Some would have called her lucky, she supposed. But what sort of luck could it be to loose everything? Surviving...it was hardly an act of fortune. And she hadn't expected to long outlive them either... not at her age. But then...then she supposed she got 'lucky' again. The dog that helped to teach her to hunt was a kind sort, playful and happy though he was, but he seemed...forgetful. He wandered off not long after she met him, and his name escaped her memory now. He barely even said it once... and she never did see him again. Her chance meeting with him, however, seemed like it would be enough. She had enough ability to survive by the time he'd left, and though pickings were slim indeed she kept weight enough to keep walking. The world was nothing much to her, though she was quite confused by the apologetic cheetah that turned her away from the borders of a pride. He warned her that those within were...ill. That it was catching. For a moment, she toyed with the idea of pressing on anyway, letting herself slip away slowly, but something in her was not ready to do that. The lives around her still, starting from the splotchy wild dog who found her when she was first alone, had inspired her to continue with her own life. Lonely as she was, she was learning to accept the world and gradually starting to hope again. Thanking the stranger who'd warned her, she moved on as she'd learned to do.

And then everything came crashing down.

She remembered all too clearly the terror of the night the demonic male came, the way he'd pressed her when she refused his advances, the eerie way he seemed to be more than the skin he wore. She didn't wish to remember him...but traumatic though that had been, he'd given her something that could have changed everything. Two little cubs, their fur dark and their markings not unlike her own. It was like seeing little pieces of herself, or even of her brother, for both were male and did look so like them. Their father forgotten for the moment, she treasured the pair, the little family she never thought she'd have again. Kavan and little Allek were her joy and life, and though she struggled to make ends meet, as her own mother had, they were happy...for a time. Such a short, short time. For their father had planned for this, and when he returned...

A soft moan escaped the lioness' throat, her eyes forced open once again as though the murky skies could replace the images that lingered still in her mind. They wouldn't leave her alone though. There wasn't anything she could do...it was too late. If only...but she'd tried. She'd tried and fought and struggled but he'd taken her children from her anyway. Her precious family was gone once again, and waking in a pool of her own blood she had no sense of where they had gone. She'd searched. But there had been no sign. None. Where could they have gone? How could they be gone? Now...now there was nothing left. Her will was gone, and the only desire she had was to join her loved ones in their deaths. But to simply die...it frightened her. A single memory surfaced, and, limping painfully, she made her way back to the place where she'd passed all that time ago.

And so the cheetah found her again, that member of a pride that would accept her, broken though she was. Useless though she felt. Now...now she'd had enough. Now she'd nothing much left to live for. She never realized that a pride could be so like a family. They welcomed her when he guided her within it's borders, and something almost changed. Almost. But it was just barely too late. It was too hard for her to get close to those she loved, for no matter what she did...she lost them. The plague stole them from her now, a plague she herself never seemed to catch for all she'd intended to do so. Why did they keep leaving her? Even the male she'd almost taken as a mate...

The Secret Keeper bowed her head, her eyes brimming with emotion as she gazed down at the still form before her. Even he had left her behind. But she wouldn't be without him for much longer... at least in this way he would be a part of her. At least him she might keep close forever. No one could take him from her a second time...and keeping him would be in keeping with her duty to her pride. It was an...odd...position, to be sure. But it was the only one that allowed her to find the closure she needed so badly. Her mother was gone. Her brother was gone. Her sons were gone. But her love remained. He would be a part of her soon...just as many of the others were. They would never be forgotten, their lives joined with hers. Secret Keeper. She would keep their lives within herself...

Why does she look so glum and downcast? All she ever wanted...is lost. She does not dare to let herself try to find joy again because she fears losing it once again, and so she lives in her self-imposed loneliness because it's safer to live alone than to lose what she loves. Perhaps someday, someone could show her otherwise. But until then...
How does she get along with others, both in and out of the pride? She keeps them at a distance from herself now, feeling it is her lot to be lonely. She can't stand the pain of loss, and so she'd rather never have something than to know what it was like to lose it. She is aloof, but patient, reserved but willing to lend aid if it is needed. She's just...quiet.
If she had to have a theme song, what would it be? Learn to be Lonely
Any additional comments or notes of interest? Loving the ideas for this girl, and the potential for emo-lion dramas and romances and such, haha. Hoping for potential future-plottings with her lost cubs too, maybe one of them (future custom) finds his way back to her. I might need to make a lioness in this position even if I don't win this one, it'd be too much fun to play with. Need to start saving XD

Everyone's A Hero
Username: Reverie Rose
SoA Name & Meaning (if applicable): Chiwa
Desired Future Rank and Why:
Is she diseased (and if so at what stage do you intend for him to show symptoms?), a carrier or immune? Yes, but a different disease. She is immune to the pride’s disease, but is sick with another type, that wont kill her and is not contagious, but she will suffer with it for the rest of her life
Personality: Quiet and reserved, Chiwa would like to be rambunctious like the average cub, but her health doesn’t allow it. If she runs she coughs, if she keep it up she will cough up blood. She is almost always tired, for its hard to sleep through the night when she gets chest pains every few hours, lasting 5 to 30 minutes a piece. She tends to stay in the shade, and wander around at night because the light hurts her eyes. She is like a shadow, lurking in the pride. Its easy to over look her. She doesn’t stand out even slightly, she is just a part of the crowd.
What is her relationship like with others in the pride (both adults and cubs her age?): She is simply ‘there’. She doesn’t stand out so some pride members may not even know who she is, even if they had seen her around. She tries to play with other cubs, but she can’t do much so she tends to just find a way to make toys and plays on her own. With adults, some know her and help care for her, others would say ‘Chiwa who?’
Where did she come from? Chiwa was ill from birth and the only cub from her litter who survived. She was coughing and heaving as a newborn, so with that and the fact she was born with three still born littermates, her mother named her Chiwa meaning death. When she was a few weeks old, her mother left her at the borders of the plagued pride, and left. Either she would die there, or she would be found by the sickly pride, and die there. But she couldn’t stand watching her cub die. She was never seen again.

A young male was looking for a wandering cub when he spotted a coughing figure in the distance. He found the weak, sickly cub and brought her back to the pride. No one knew who’s cub she was, and where she came from was a mystery. But none the less she was paired with a female who was still lactating, and raised as a cub of the pride. She never had a specific ‘parent’, her caretakers all seemed to rotate. Eventually she was well enough to the point where they figured she would live, but would be physically weak her whole life. Since no one around her caught her particular illness, they figured that it wasn’t contagious.
Any other notes of interest about the cub? Her particular disease includes coughing, which grows with any form of physical activity, regular chest pains which feel like needs being jabbed into her insides, sores in her mouth and on her body that come and go, sensitivity to any bright lights, and a sensitive stomach(meaning that she will occasionally throw up)

Why should we pick you? Just curious. . . uumm…I dunno XD new blood in the pride? =) and...ZOMG DR. HORRIBLE 8D

Everyone's A Hero
Username: Pales
SoA Name & Meaning (if applicable): Nkemdilim - Means "let mine be mine" in Igbo. She will mostly go by the nickname of 'Lim or Ilim.
Desired Future Rank and Why: Healer or a Nanny because of her strong desire and will to help out no matter what. I am undecided between them and maybe through RP I could settle her into either role more firmly.
Is she diseased (and if so at what stage do you intend for him to show symptoms?), a carrier or immune?: Immune - Some may or may not be superstitious and assume that the small bit of blood-like markings are keeping the various plagues at bay but it probably is because she has a strong immune system simple as that.
Personality: She is cheerful cub and fairly optimistic despite everything that she sees going on around her. 'Lim tries to be happy and give hope to everyone she possibly can and will go out of her way to make others happy as well even if just for a brief moment. She is playful when the mood strikes her but for the most part she doesn't seem as interested in play as she probably ought to be. Despite her warm nature she also seems to keep others at a certain distance as if out of fear of losing them as well if they get too close. 'Lim seems under the assumption that she is under some sort of a curse since everything has happened to her to date is bad except for the pride taking her in which she is very thankful for. When someone makes a bad assumption of her she is very, very determined to prove them wrong be it by deed or speech she will not stop until their view of her changes.
What is her relationship like with others in the pride (both adults and cubs her age?): Other cubs might find her usual lack of playfulness and freedom as boring unless they figure out how to pull her into play while the adults might find it a bit disconcerting. Her markings may lead some into superstitious thoughts and feelings depending on the mindset of the other pride member involved. Her tenacious love and clinging to life might annoy some of the more pessimistic members of the pride.
Where did she come from? Discovered lost and alone separated from her own pride during a rather violent fight amongst her kin. She was found at the boarders passed out and weak but fighting for life quite fiercely, determined not to give in so she could live a fuller life. For the most part she does not recall much about the fight or what prompted it and any time she tries it makes her feel panicked and dizzy.
Any other notes of interest about the cub? Though she keeps some at a distance it doesn't mean no one can break through and get close to her, just means it'll take a bit of work. Lim has occasional nightmares and has some issues going to sleep so it is possible she may attach herself to an adult for comfort if not a fellow cub in the pride that has a soothing way about them. She might look diseased to some but she is immune, might make some of the more careful adults worry.

+ Fancy seeing you...Again? - Decided to show this one since it shows a wide range of emotions and other such things.
+ ...Are you Serious? - This one shows that I have some experience playin' at the young'ns and what not.

More samples can be given on demand. I have a mixture of finished and ongoing roleplays since I rarely tend to abandon an RP even if it is really, really old.
Why should we pick you? Just curious. . . I've been a lurker within SoA for a bit but it isn't until recently I decided to try for an event. I am a pretty easy to get a hold of - I have AIM and MSN can also PM me on Gaia - and very flexible to work with as far as plots and things go. Also I like to see things through to the end if an RP is started with me, no matter how long it takes I am willing and able to sit down and plug along at it until it is complete.

Tainted Love
.:For The Black & Blue Playa':.
Username: Enoh Love
SoA Name & Meaning (if applicable): Wotejipa (Gives Himself to Everyone)
Rank in the Pride: Bard
Is he diseased, a carrier or immune? Immune
How old do you see him as? Aged. He isn't incredibly old, but he does have quite a few years under his paws. Young enough to still be quite spry, but old enough to have some greying hairs hiding (luckily) in the brighter parts of his fur, especially around his eyes.
Personality: Wotejipa is, let's face it, a fraud. A Lion of many faces. A calculated flirt who knows how to read his fellow creatures. If he thinks someone needs a friend, he will be that friend. If they want a comrade, he will be that comrade. He is very sweet on those Females that are susceptible to it, and to the Males that want rough and rowdy talk over the water hole, he's there. Cubs are dazzled with his incredible and often acted out stories of Heroes and Monsters, Gods and Demons. He will be happy and outgoing when needed, he will be quiet and reserved where appropriate. He is everywhere he can physically be, and he is everything he can mentally pull off.

With such a close-knit pride, there are obviously those that might be hesitant towards him and his shifting personality, but there are reasons for him to be doing so. He believes that nobody should die in misery, or wallow in the fate that their genetics forced upon them. It also helps to hide his insecure core; if he feels he is important to someone, or better yet to many; it makes him feel less empty.

After playing so many roles for so long, Wotejipa actually doesn't know who 'he' is, as a Lion.

What has his life been like within the pride up until now?:
Wotejipa's life has been pretty much the same throughout the entire duration; fitting into the role he thinks is best needed. He joined the Pride as a Juvenile Rogue, his parents both having died of old age. Of course, it would seem that being a Bard had his calling from the get-go, and he eagerly took to that; relaying stories and news from passing Rogues to his Pride Members, keeping the healthy in the know, and keeping the rest of them entertained whilst their lives drew to a close. Knowing he was immune to the disease of his peers, he felt no fear in getting close to the dying. Many sick Females were treated to Chivalry, kindness and seemingly honest flirting, making them feel loved and wanted in their last days. He even attempted to give them cubs before they passed, purely out of their desire to have children. Neither cub nor Female ended up surviving. The sick Males were given a youngster to relive 'glory days' with, to tell their stories to, or to just have the son they wish they had, or that they wished survived.

Sadly, most of the friends he made were lost to him; he spent more time with the dying than the healthy, after all. Each death hurt, but over the years and after seeing it countless times he more or less grew immune; it hurt, but it was a fact of life. The horrible tragedy of Death eventually equated to stubbing a toe on a root, or tripping over your paws. It hurt, but it happened. There was only one healthy Female in his entire life that he legitimately cared for and loved, and the only one in particular that honestly devastated him; everyone thought she was immune. They were attempting to create a family...and she fell ill. The unborn cubs died with her, and that was the first and last time Wotejipa ever truly cried for anyone.

His life went back to being the calculated fraud he always was, and any tear he shed after that was as false as his words; believing in it himself only long enough to fool them into believing it to be true.

How does he feel about being asked to leave the borders in search of new members, new blood, and possibly return with cubs and new blood?
Inwardly and in all honesty, he could take it or leave it. He understands the importance of his mission, but after the death of the seemingly healthy Lioness and the loss of many cubs, he isn't putting much stalk in success. Outwardly, he is overjoyed and honored at being chosen for such a task, understanding how important it is to gather more members to help the Pride along.

He is pretty sure he was only asked because he can be quite the flirt though.

Will he go willingly, looking forward to roguing it for awhile, or will he be adverse to such an adventure?
Since this seems important to everyone, and since he was asked personally, he will go willingly and be looking forward to it. If anything, this could give him more stories to do his job with, and more experience to take back to his Pride! Oh. The Cubs, too.
Any additional comments or notes of interest?
