A Strange Start To The Morning Participants: Sahra, Ephrem, Mew, Aja, Mabyn, Val, Kobane Rising with a large yawn, Sahra's sharp teeth seemed to reach outward. Her stomach howled at her, so that was what had woken her up? She pulled herself into a sitting position, rubbing her eyes with the edges of her palms. "What time is it, anyways?" The girl mumbled to herself, peering over her shoulder to look at her alarm clock. "Only 6:00 AM? Jeez, you'd think I could get more sleep than that. But apparently my stomach doesn't think so."
Ephrem shifted on the floor, coiled up tightly under an old torn comforter covered in flower patterns. Sahra's new habit of waking up so early was starting to irk him, especially when she was blabbing to herself. Sometimes he truly thought his feline-of-a-partner was deranged. "Shush." he moaned, pulling the end of his tail over top of his head.
"Pfft, get up you lazy lindworm!" Reaching over to a nearby shelf, the cheetah pulled off a stuffed animal at random, and threw it in the dragon's direction. With a soft thud, it landed on his coiled body. But he didn't move, nor make another sound. She sighed.
Quickly giving up on her stubborn partner, she decided instead to rise and head downstairs to the kitchen to find a tasty morsel for breakfast. A good percentage of the household was usually up at this time, anyways, so it wasn't like she'd have no one to talk to.
In the kitchen, it was just as she had suspected. Her mother, Mew, was perched quietly at an edge of the kitchen table. And surprisingly, Aja was sitting across the room, shielded two-thirds of the way by a door frame, in a mostly humanistic form, despite horns, canid-like ears, and a long reptilian tail. Normally he only manifested himself in various animal forms, not caring to either show or take to a relatively human form (she didn't know which).
Mabyn was blundering about, preparing many differed dishes that all smelled quite good. The cat-girl often made breakfast, but not this done up. She was, apparently, missing a major event. "What's going on?" She asked curiously, looking between the three individuals.
Mew's head twisted towards her daughter, eyes lightening up with a sudden flash of amusement. "Well, don't we look lovely this morning." She commented with a snicker, catching the attention of her other two companions. Aja simply sighed, quickly extending it into a yawn, his eyes were clamped shut.
The cheetah was clad in her PJ's, hair sticking out every which way. She blinked, suddenly feeling self-conscious. "Eh..."
"It's Christmas, you retard." Mabyn was busily buzzing around the kitchenette like a good worker bee. Her hands were here and there, in this and that, putting various formal and informal breakfast foods into serving containers lined up along the counter top. "What sort of child ever forgets that?"
A frown curled it's way across her lips, her canines protruding from her closed mouth. "I'm not the retarded one." She mumbled under her breath, pulling out a chair from the dining table, plopping down. The cheetah wasn't feeling so up to a family gathering this morning, she could feel it. But her hunger and generally polite nature made her sit out and wait as her poor tummy screeched in agony. Reaching up, she ran her claws through her hair, attempting to arrange it properly.
Aja's cloud shaded ears flickered, one eye lazily opening half way in reaction to the noisy feline child. "Ignore her," He stated simply, more of a command rather than a suggestion. "And come here."
Sahra blinked, tilting her head side-ways in a dumbfounded manner. "What?" But she rose, despite her questioning, and obediently made her way sluggishly around the corner, looking down on the sprawled out form. "Hm?" She continued.
He lifted one arm, and grasped at the edge of her pajama top in one quick movement, yanking her downward onto the floor. Aja pulled the small feline against his free arm. "Look." His voice was soft, almost a whisper. From with in his kimono-like robes, he pulled out a fan.
It looked rather similar to the ones her mother had given her, the ones she had found at a Flea market that were upstairs hanging on her wall. Except, a slightly different style, "A fan?" She asked curiously, reaching out to run her furred fingers along it's rim. Widening, her jungle colored eyes scanned over the designs on it's thin, course surface. "It's so pretty..."
Aja nodded simply, pulling both his arms away from the girl. "Here." He pushed it into her grasp. "Now off with you."
Sahra blinked, pulling the fan up against her chest, she skittered off like a good little kitty, making her way into the living room were another surprise awaited her. "Va-Vals?" Her eyes widened once more; it really was a holiday if Valkyrie was home from school!
"Hey you! I haven't seen you in a long time. What's up?" She almost giggled at her 'cousins' appearance, so bed ridden, but she had had time to gussy herself up, so she choked it back. Her oddly fiery colored eyes looked expectantly at the fan in her arms, "Got a gift already, I see? You popular devil, you!" She grinned jokingly.
Blushing, the cheetah sprinted across the living room until she came to sit at her cousins side, resisting the urge to poke at her feathered wings (it wasn't every day you saw an angelic feline!). "I just woke up, what about you?" She muttered tiredly, "But um, sure?" Her eyes fell down to the neatly folded up fan she cradled in her arms. "I feel ashamed, though, I forgot about today, so I didn't get anyone anything..." She twisted around to look at the tall festive tree standing off to their side, decorated in a variety of ornaments, and kept company by many prettily wrapped gifts.
Valkyrie shrugged, "I didn't get anyone anything, either, I'm to cheap for that." She giggled finally, which was pretty pathetic, considering her small jokes weren't really that funny. "School is alright. I should sit down and tell you all the juicy details sometime soon! Like about Samantha, and her new hitch!" Her eyes seem to glisten in that school girl sort of way, as they skipped off into a distant land of thought.
Having no clue what she was talking about, the cheetah was happy to give her attention to the new figure that had entered the room. Her mother, none-the-less.
"You have gifts from a few of your friends to open." The woman's gaze fell upon a few wrapped gifts, "When ever you want. We'll open most of the rest, tonight."
Sahra shook her head. "I'll wait." She stated proudly, "I'd rather open them all together. Especially since I'd want all of my new friends to meet each other at the same time." The crazed cat was referring to plushies, which she always received plenty of, due to it being her obsession.
Mabyn slipped in the room, a frantic look upon her face. That made it clear she was only in to announce something, probably that breakfast was almost ready. "Breakfast is almost ready!" As usual, but she held something bright and colorful in her arms, "Also, I know were aren't opening gifts until tonight, but I wanted you to have this now." She threw a brightly patterned quilt at Sahra. "Go take that wretched rag off of your dragon and use this pretty new quilt to keep him, and yourself, warm." With that statement finished she zoomed out of sight.
The blanket landed directly on top of Sahra's head, draping over her essentially motionless form. "Gee, thanks." She said, unenthusiastic.
Rolling her eyes several times, Val could only watch her moody mother jet in and then out of the room. "She's the crazed one, not you my dearest." She was whispering to Sahra, hunched over slightly to make an attempt at keeping Mew and Aja from hearing.
But that wasn't very successful, for a vivid chuckle escaped Mew, and Aja seemed to shift in annoyance.
Suddenly, something shot out of nowhere, jumping up and bolting straight for the tree. Someone shouted: "AHH! Wait, Kobane, don't do that!" The large decorated coniferous tree slammed to the wooded floor. Ornaments shattered, sending small shards of glass and ceramics all over the room. What a grand, grand day this was going to be.

The Mighty Oak Participants: Mr. Gamba, Sahra, Lucia, Chath, Alaqua, Indigo, and Dragons With a new teacher, Kayin Gamba, Sahra and Ephrem both come to a new class in a new room to find yet another intriguing area. They are taught a new lesson in a very strange way, a game that doesn't really make any sense to Sahra. She doesn't understand how it will help her learn anything to do with battle, but she obediently goes about her chore and Re watches from the side lines.

Hunting Skills Participants: Sahra, Ephrem, Caden, Orpheus In her second skills training session, Sahra, with Ephrem at her side, attended a class taught by Orpheus, along with another student called Caden. The lion boy seemed to be in a rather bad mood, since things didn't go over so well. Sahra refuses to believe that that's how he normally acts, although Re is much less than impressed, he does not care for the "Mad Cat" what so ever.

Heartless Collisions Participants: Sahra, Ephrem, Josh, Random People The day had been long. The general population was just getting out of school—feet pounded around her, voices spiraling in a wave of sound—what a headache! But one foot in front of the other, careful not to trip, fall, or let anyone make a bug out of you (SQUISH!). Tired from classes and harassment from Yin, Sahra had made the decision to wander off to the mall in place of returning home. Smart idea? Possibly, but then again, an angry cat-girl may not. Yin wouldn't be happy. She sighed, "I'm glad we cane here." She told Re, despite her latter thought.
"Yes Srra." He returned blatantly. Re was in a foul mood today—a D-tech had stepped on his tail-end earlier in the day, and someone had shut him in a door twice. "I'd rather have just gone home." The lindworm admitted sourly. In all truth he'd much rather go home and curl up in solitude somewhere. However, Sahra was here, as she normally was after classes and on the weekends, which meant it's where he had to be, too. Whether he liked it or not. "Let's just get on with it." He grumbled, eyes narrowed, gaze catching as many passing strangers as his sanity would allow.
"Oh come on Re, cheer up." The spotted-feline chided joyfully, "We'll play games, watch some weirdos, and get some food! You'll like that last part, then we can catch the flight home." Of course no one knew hoe much or how little Sahra would be in the mood or play games. Normally when she was evidently cheerful, she would play until either she lost so horribly she ran out of patience, or the games simply got to old and she would run home to her own console. At times they would pause to watch passer-byers, as well. "Come on!" Darting off ward, Sah has no doubts that the lindworm would follow her—he always did.
"Srra." Claws screeching against the tiled flooring, Ephrem's tail whipped around, smacking three people in the lower physical regions, causing them to topple over. The dragon didn't particularly notice.
Twisting around, Sahra heard the angry screams of the three individuals. Shaking her head, she sighed. "Oui Re." She mumbled under her breath. When didn't chaos follow the dragon? And he never seemed to care..."Sorry!" She shouted as Re slithered to her side. Why couldn't the dragon be a little more aware of his surroundings? Not that she was famous for being alert, she has a similar issue, but she never really hurt anyone! (Except maybe herself, but that's okay!) Pushing against glass doors and made her way into the arcade. Ah, the soft ringing of Pacman, the kindling of game overs, the relaxing ping of pinball. It was before the initial wave of school children. It wasn’t busy yet! But before Sahra could make a bee-line to the nearest game, her pathway was blocked by a tall brunette, crinkling money under his grubby fingernails.
"Where do you think you're going?" He hissed with a roaring laugh, pushing out the palm of his empty left hand.
Sahra came to a halt, pushing her leather wrapped feet into the ground, her claws digging hopelessly at the tile for traction. She griped her green wool sweater sleeve so tightly a sharp "rip" rand through the air as her nails punched holes into her sleeves. "What do you want, Josh?" The feline mouthed through clenched teeth. "I didn't take your game..."
"You can't be here today, spot-brains, all the guys are coming in and I don't want you here." Pushing dollar bills into a change machine, the dirty child, appearing to be about middle-school age. Grinding his teeth together, he shoved several handfuls of quarters into his pockets. "So go away."
"No." She replied simply, stepping swiftly to the side. Ephrem was coming up behind her, his eyes warily scanning over the boy standing before his girl. "I'm here to have fun, so just let me be, okay?..." An instant frown came to Re's face; he could sense in the air that something was going to happen. "Great." He mumbled aloud.
"Back off." Two hands pushed out, sending quarters flying to two sides. His hands hit the cheetah's upper back, sending her upper body flying forward, pulling her feet out from under her. Luckily enough, Re was quickly able to fling his tail up to catch the girl. Before anyone could react, Ephrem opened his mouth, barring his teeth and snarling. Rushing forward, his teeth made contact with Josh's shoulder. Before anyone knew it, the floor beneath them was red.
***
A siren sounded in the background, and lights were flashing, bouncing off the glass windows, and the water of a nearby pond. It was sunny out, at least for the time of day, being almost 6pm now. The police and an ambulance had been called. Josh was sitting on the back rim of the ambulance, an EMT buzzing around his limp limb. "He might loose it!" He shouted at first, but this turned into "I just think his shoulder is cracked. His joint will need to be popped back into place." Which sounded a lot better than amputation. "He has some muscle damage that will be permanent; it'll hurt a while, and his motor function will lessen, but it will heal perfectly fine." What a relief.
Yin was on the scene, and fuming to no end! The cat-girl was so angry she was tearing. "I always knew you were rabid! You stupid dragon!" Throwing her fists in his general direction; Sahra stepped quickly in her way. Yin was about to shover her aside, when a police officer came up to her.
"Luckily enough for you his parents aren't pressing charges. Although I don't understand why. That thing needs to be rabies tested—"
"He doesn't have rabies!" Sahra hissed, "He's been vaccinated and we have proof of vaccination." The cheetah had seen on TV what they do to dogs who had bitten someone; they took them away and locked them up until they could be tested for rabies. If the test was positive, they were "humanly destroyed," if negative, they were a danger to the public and put down anyways.
"Alright," He grumbled, "There should be no problems then." Shifting unhappily on his feet, he twisted around, and continued on to pursue another witness.
"You'd better be glad of that. "Yin muttered under her breath.

I Stand Free Participants: Sahra, Ephrem, Some Weird Guy Since the incident, Sahra had been consistently and purposefully avoiding the mall. Rumor had it that Josh had moved to another city in fear—other say he simply gave up gaming because of his hurt arm, and put his time into his studies. Sahra didn’t know, but none-the-less, she felt sort of bad. Re didn’t care, in his mind, he taught that kid a valuable lesson: “Never threaten my partner!” He had snarled at the raggedy boy as the paramedics dragged him off. The authority has simply written off the whole situation as “self-defense.” The cheetah wondered if D-Corp has anything to do with that one.
But he was gone, and that made most of the regulars at the arcade happy. What was truthfully pulling her back to the mall was her will to get her ears pierced. And to get her wretchedly long hair off of her back, literally! “Okay Re, please, please behave yourself, okay? It’ll be hard enough to be convincing that I actually got the paper signed by Ma.” In all truth she had picked up the paper some weeks ago, knowing her mother wouldn’t allow it (she had to be thirteen!) so she forged Mew’s signature. She could play innocent, maybe...
“We’ll see what the shop manager does, Srra.” He replied. Ephrem didn’t particularly see anything wrong with what the girl was doing, not that a dragon knew anything about piercing one’s body. “Let’s just get it done and over with.” Grumbling, he followed quickly after the girl as she sprinted into an almost unsettling shop. The lindworm couldn’t help but look everywhere, but most insistently at the man who stood behind the register. His body was a miral of colors and designs, and his entire body sported shiny hanging pieces of metal stuck in his skin. Scales maybe? There were designs and strange photos all over the walls. “I don’t like this...” Re mumbled to himself as he settled down against a far wall.
“Hello!” The girl chimed, dragging her feet up toward the counter. “I’m finally back to get that done...” Nervously, she watched as the man took the paper from her hand and looked over it expectantly. “Alright.” He said with a truthful smile. To her amazement it was as simple as that, wow. Valkyrie had told her most places required a parent to be present in order to get such procedures done. But it was only piercing, what was the big deal? A few small pieces of metal through her ear?
“Take a seat here, and we’ll get the clipper ready.” Sahra braced herself as plopped down. It really couldn’t hurt all that much, she’d had worse, she was sure.
***
“Your mother is not going to be very happy! SAHRA.” Yin was fuming, like a scalding volcano just after it had erupted. A housewife had gone bad! “Why did you have to go and pierce anything, even if it is just your ears!? Cutting your hair, I understand that, but this...” Somehow Mabyn knew that Mew would have her for this one! Rubbing her temples in sheer frustration, the dark colored cat felt a sudden urge to pull out all her hair. “OUI!” She screeched.
Sahra simply shrugged, it didn’t really bother her, to say the least. She expected her mother to be angry, but knew after some time she would forget about it. Preparation made her unafraid of her heathen of a mother, when ever the self-proficient woman actually decided to come home. It had been a while since she had seen her mother—it always seemed like she was to busy being nocturnal, away from home on ventures, or sick to deal with the family. But what ever, she wasn’t the one to judge.
Ephrem had watched the large brute with a mural for a body push sharp metal rods into his cheetah’s ears. A sudden forceful need to protect her from the evil metal teeth nearly sent him after the man. But her remembered Sahra’s plead, and grumpily pushed his body back against the cold tiled floors. “Hmph.” He had grumbled. But she hadn’t whined or even winced.
But now it didn’t seem so bad. The cheetah’s ears looked funny—when she was done he had given her an estranged look—almost as if the law of gravity should be pulling her ears right off. She looked so different, three metal pieces in her left ear, and two in her right; her hair was chopped above her shoulders, and she actually had bangs. To much change for one day!
“But it at least doesn’t look bad, right?” However she had mustered the nerve to ask, well, is unbeknownst to anyone but herself. But she was feeling utterly self-conscious, she wasn’t used to not having to push he hair out of her face or at-the-least pull it back with a hair tie.
Mabyn simply sighed.

When Time Stands Still Participants: Sahra, Mew, Aja “I don’t see what the problem is.” Wings folded, a large white four-legged creature leaned steadily against the back wall of the house, staring into the window of the kitchen. “You did it, too.” Letting off a large puff of air through his nostrils, Aja, in the form of a large stark white Pegasus, stared deeply into bitter teal eyes. His own eyes, the color of the pale sky at twilight, shone with shrouds of resilience.
“Maybe,” Teal eyes narrowed, she gritted her teeth and pushed a clenched fist into the side of the house. “But it doesn’t change the fact that she went behind my back to get it done, you know? I don’t like coming back to unexpected changes.” Mew held her felid ears flat against her skull, turning her head to peer into the kitchen, watching an oblivious Mabyn put together the start of what appeared to be that evenings dinner. A dish based around rice and chicken, one of Sahra’s favorites.
“Go easy on her, Mew. You expect too much of the girl.” He shook his head, his mane falling over his stormy eyes. “Especially with what you have planned, you’re going to shock the whole family...” It was true, Mew’s plotting would indeed give rise to a heavy dose of “WHAT THE #3()!?”, but he didn’t want to think about it. “It’s not good to suddenly drop such huge changes. Or keep secrets. You know that, right?” Sighing, the stallion shuddered as a cold breeze hit his back. No more flying tonight, that was for sure. This family transportation gig Mew had him doing was starting to get old, and very, very boring.
“Hmph.” She muttered, “It’s for their own good. It’ll be safer for them not to know.” And that was the end of it; she would not discuss it any longer. And Aja knew it. For as long as he had known her she had always been stubborn, and when she wanted her way, no matter what it took, she always got it. But he did have to agree with her, it was better if they didn’t know the underlying situation—why Mew kept leaving, why Winny never came back...
Coming up a well-worn path from the woods, Sahra had been out wandering through the woodlands. One should probably find the fact that she was alone odd, since she and Ephrem were always together. But in all truth, the dragon had been craving some alone time, and decided to stray to the cliff sides to bask in the sun and relish at his own thoughts in the peace and quiet. But soon she came to an abrupt stop. “Mom!?” She screeched, blinking heavily, as if she’d seen a ghost.
“Hello Sahzy.” Mew spoke casually, “Long time no see, eh?” But before she could much finish, she had a heaping impact of tawny spotted fur. Stumbling, Mew nearly lost her balance. “Nice to see you, too.” Her voice was muffled against Sahra’s head—the girl was getting tall.
“And Aja, hi!” The cheetah grinned widely, her jagged teeth scraping together. “It hasn’t been the same around here without you guys!” It had been quite boring, actually. And there was no one to take her places! Aja simply rolled his eyes, grunted unhappily, and clunked off into the forest, most likely to change into a snake, or his more natural wolf form. “What’s up with him?” Sahra asked, stumped, with a tinge of sadness and confusion in her voice.
Mew shrugged, her spotted tail twitching. “Nothing to worry about, Sahzy.” She said softly, running her fingers through the girl’s now short hair. “Just a few complications you don’t need to worry about.” The leopardess almost felt bad for not telling her daughter Winny might never come back, but that was a long explanation and some truth dodging for another day. Maybe when she was a bit older, and might better understand. Maybe someday she could know everything. “Now on another subject, I see you finally cut your hair, and...” She touched her fingers to the girl’s ears.
“Uh, ahaha, funny story Ma...” Taking a step back, Sahra grinned nervously. She knew it would come to this, and she was prepared, sort of, anyways. At least she wouldn’t back down from her mother.
“Funny story, mhm, you’re no better than I was.” She sighed, “Guess I’ve been a bad influence, oh well. Don’t do it again, otherwise there will be consequences.” Aja was right, the girl didn’t need anymore stress on her shoulders for the moment. She felt bad enough to instill what was soon coming for her daughter, Yin, Aja, and the rest of their family. A new life, perhaps, but she knew no one would take to it very well. Especially not Sahra, not unless Gabby was with her—she would miss Asryane.
Woah, she couldn’t believe it. Her mother actually didn’t mind that she had gotten something done behind her back. It was strange, but she was somewhat thankful. It had been a bit easier than she thought. “Okay.”
“So you know, you really should try not to get yourself into so much trouble. I know you’re getting to that age, and you need to start thinking more about your actions. And taking responsibility for yourself.” Mew rested her hand atop the cheetah’s orange hair, eyes unfocused as she thought deeply. “Don’t get yourself into trouble and make the right choices, okay? I trust you for that much. But then again, once the hormones kick in, no one knows what you’ll do.”
She sighed; she really didn’t look forward to the teenage stages of her daughter. She’d really rather her just stay at this age, when the worse thing she thought of doing was sneaking out to the beach at dusk, or sneaking chocolate animal crackers and Caprisun. Chuckling, Mew watched her daughter look up at her in an utterly confused way. “I am not sure what you mean Ma, but okay, I’ll try and remember that, I guess...”
“When you get there you’ll understand Sahzy, you’ll start looking at things differently, at people differently.” Hopefully for her own sanity as a mother, not to differently! She didn’t want her child to corrupted to early on, it would be bad enough when she started having mood swings and stopped wanting to do anything with her. “Well I tell you what, since Yin is cooking dinner, how about you promise me you’ll remember all that crazy stuff and we make her insanely angry and crack out some chocolate ice cream?”
Sahra grinned so widely, it looked as if her jaws would crack and fall apart. “It’s a deal!”

Packing Away Old Memories Participants: Sahra, Ephrem, Mabyn, Aja, Mew A new day a fresh start right? Today was one of those days, Sahra felt like a flower petal floating on the breeze as if nothing could go wrong. Re however wasn’t taking so well to getting up and about—considering her was still upstairs coiled up under a blanket. He wasn’t lazy, simply far too fond of warmth to get up and move his dairy-air. It had taken her ten extra minutes to get up this morning, and she usually got up earlier than she needed to! It was a chilly morning and with her savannah adapted body, well, she just didn’t want to leave the toastiness of her bed. But then, epically, her stomach growled, demanding that she give it some good nutrition. So she pushed herself out of bed, got dressed, and wandered down the stairwell to see what Yin was making for breakfast.
Bacon and eggs, mm, a classic, but good none-the-less! Normally she would stray away from the commonplace of average citizen livelihood, but her stomach demanded attention, and she felt entitled to shut it up. “I hear you, already.” She groaned, pulling out a chair with one hand, lazily plopping down almost before it was far enough out to fit even her thin form. “Yin can I have some orange juice?” Muttering under her breathe, her eyes were still hazed by tiredness.
Mabyn watched the sluggish girl make her way to the dining room table. From beyond the doorway in the kitchen she could see just how bloodshot the cheetah’s eyes were. “You were out really late last night, again, weren’t you!?” With a soft hiss, Yin smacked her hands against the counter top. “You need to start being more responsible and make sure you get more sleep, Sahra! You’re going to start falling asleep in class, and then we’ll all be in trouble!” Yin made her way out of Sahra’s view to pull a large ceramic plate decorated with black swirls from the cupboard. Stepping through the doorway into the dining room, she slammed the plate forcefully down in front of the girl, hoping it would further wake her.
“OUI Yin...” Sighing, Sahra pushed her head up and glared at the cat. “How does this concern you? I’ll be the one getting in trouble with the D-Techs, sheesh...” Although if the parents were called then Mew would know about her constant sneaking out, and then her mother would have Yin’s neck. It did make sense, then, but she wasn’t about to tell that to Yin. All she needed was more of an inflated ego. “Can I just eat?” She groaned, “I’m seriously very hungry.” In an instant the spotted feline knew she shouldn’t had made such a statement—more nagging was in tow.
”Well then maybe you shouldn’t have—” But before Mabyn could get on her case about something else, one thing she did often, and quite horribly sought out, Mew barged into the room.
It was a strange sight, seeing the leopardess prowling about at this hour. Normally she was fast asleep by now, since she was a nocturnal cat by nature. Even her Canid side was relatively nocturnal! “We’re moving.” Mew said simply, her voice blank of emotion, and unbiased by any possibility of humor. “Get things together, Aja and I brought loads of boxes. Sahra you won’t be going to class today, as soon as you have eaten head upstairs and start packing what ever of your things you want to take with you.” Her gaze narrowed, “What ever we don’t take we can purchase new in Durem.”
Sahra gasped, “Durem!? But that’s so far away Mom, what the h—” Her words choked off, and she couldn’t bring herself to speak anything further. What was going on? Why did she want to leave all of a sudden? She could have at least given advance notice on the subject! “Wha...Gabby!?” The cheetah had meant to ask where that left Gabby, and even Asryane. Surely Mew wouldn’t leave Yane behind, as much as Sahra herself didn’t like her, she knew her mother had achieved the ‘sister’ mentality with the vile woman. Gabby, her G-bird, her precious little sister, she couldn’t possibly leave her behind.
“Stop Sahra, and watch your language. Gabby will deal with it.” Speaking in a harsh tone, the woman’s teal eyes narrowed. “I don’t want to hear anything more of it. Pack.” From behind her towering form Sahra could see a bundle of white fur, ears held flat, eyes tinted with an unhappy gaze. Aja in his wolf form—even he was annoyed with Mew, which didn’t happen often. So this was what all the suspicion was about the other day—this was why Aja had been acting so funny since he and her mother had gotten back.
“Mew what is this all about?” Yin’s voice was shaky with anger, she was partial to her house, the place where she cooked and cleaned, and sat around reading everyday. Mabyn was more of a housewife and a mother figure than Mew could ever be—she took care of all the domestic matters, and played a larger part in raising Sahra than she had ever wished to. She had her own three children and none of them with her. That wasn’t a mistake; Valkyrie went to a boarding school so Mabyn would be free from such responsibilities. She was not fit to raise a kid! Now what ever she had established here was being torn down! “You can’t seriously expect us to just pack up and le—”
“Yin I said enough.” Voice harsh, Mew snarled impolitely, and then stomped out of the room. She really didn’t want to do this anymore than they did—not to mention, she didn’t want to do this to them. But her mind it was the only way, the safest route, they didn’t need to know any details. A sudden leave was the only way to keep them occupied enough to not ask any questions. Not that she’d have to answer them, but it was a lot easier if they were blinded by hatred toward her, and didn’t actually sit down and think logically about the situation. But she had work to do, things to put in boxes, and boxes to transport. It was going to be a long next couple of days.
Sahra flew into shock, her eyes watery, she suddenly lost her appetite. “Yin...” She didn’t know what to say. She didn’t know what to do.
“Shush Sahra, if you’re not hungry now than don’t eat. But best be quick and go up to your room like your mother said. I don’t want her bothering you anymore than she already has.” Despite being utterly annoyed by the spotted child, and simply in distaste of the fact she was often left responsible for her, Mabyn still cared about her. She would always watch out for Sahra, even if it was discreetly, and the girl didn’t notice it, because she was to busy disagreeing or arguing with demands. Yes demands, not reason.
“Alright...” Ephrem wasn’t going to believe was she was about to tell him, she herself quite didn’t believe it. It seemed too ethereal and out-of-character, even for her mother. What had possessed her to push such an operation? It really didn’t matter; all that mattered was getting it over with. Blankly, the cheetah rose almost as slowly as she’d sat. She felt stripped of her emotion, just so empty, but she knew better than to cross Mew when she was angry.
“And I thought it was going to be a good morning for cooking.” Yin sighed, her face flushed from a lack of breathing put in motion by her temper. In truth she was blazing, but she didn’t exactly want to show it. For once.
“Srra?” Re could almost sense the sudden emotional twist in the members of the household. “What’s going on?” He coiled upward, peering at her from the dark shadows cast upon his form by the bright quilt slung over his coiled up body. “We’re moving.” She said spitefully. “We’re leaving and going to Durem.”

An Empty Feeling Inside Participants: Sahra, Ephrem, Mabyn “Sahra, get down here!” Mabyn stood at the bottom of a cherry wood staircase, hand resting peacefully on the rim. It had been a long past few weeks; the moving had taken a lot out of the family. Not to mention moving a ton of sea serpent and catching a crazy wildcat wouldn’t heave been the easiest feat in the world. Luckily enough Nen had mostly moved herself, slithering over the earth like a snake, and Kobane had shifted territories the first time he had seen them leave. What a smart cat. “You’re going to be late for class if you don’t get up.”
Usually it was normal for Ephrem to sleep in, and the need would arise to prod him out of bed. But for Sahra, well, it wasn’t at all normal. Lately though, she wasn’t much more than a decoration—a space filler. Re shifted uncomfortably on the cold floor of the kitchen. He was gnawing on a ram leg, a normal choice of breakfast for the serpent, and one of his personal favorites, beside camel. But it wasn’t usual for him to have that. “Srra...” He grumbled under his breath as he ate. When was she going to snap out of it?
Sahra sighed. She really didn’t want to get up, she didn’t want to see this place, and she didn’t want to be here. She longed to see Gabby; they hadn’t had any classes together in a long time, so school wasn’t a good place for her to see her sister. With her blanket pulled firmly over her face, she was sprawled out unevenly over her full-sized bed. Her room had changed yet again, for the third time. It was very blue, a bad color for her right now—it made her feel very depressed, and she missed the orange of her old room. Moaning, she finally pushed herself up into a sitting position. If she didn’t get up now then she would be late, she didn’t need that on her record.
Pulling on a random clean T-shirt and jeans from her drawer, today didn’t feel like much of a fashionable day. Normally she would wear something unique, a dress or a skirt preferably, with shorts or leggings under them since they were easier for her to run in. But she wasn’t up to it. Nearly stumbling down the stairs, she refused to meet Yin’s gaze, heading straight for the door with her cameo backpack.
“Aren’t you going to eat anything?” The girl hadn’t really eaten much since the move, and she had been a floating mass of despair and anguish. She was angry at herself, desperate to see her sister, and numbed by betrayal by her mother. It all formed a concoction that didn’t sit so well with anyone—but she hadn’t spoken since her last muttered words to Mew, so she wasn’t taking it out on anyone but herself.
Ignoring the annoying cat, Sahra shifted through the doorway, ignoring even Re as he gnawed down on his breakfast. She still wasn’t hungry, and had no will to speak to anyone. She wondered how long she could feel this way. Angry at herself for allowing Mew to force them out, making her leave her Gabby behind—lost and confused, the cheetah had no idea how to go about life anymore.
Ephrem was very careful now to stick close to her, worried her carelessness might cause some unnecessary trouble. All he needed was someone wanting to take advantage of his dear Sahra, or for her to end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was so worried about her, she had ceased to do any of the things she normally enjoyed—reading, playing her games, going to the mall, wandering outside. It just didn’t seem right! But shame on him, he didn’t quite know what to do. The lindworm was too afraid to do much of anything.
“Don’t worry about it to much, Re. She’ll be herself again soon. Give her some time to get over the shock.” She hoped. Even Mabyn felt unsure for once.

Keeping A One Track Mind Participants: Sahra, Ephrem, Valkyrie “Come on Srra, get moving!” Pushing her with his muzzle, Ephrem was standing on the side of the street, prodding his partner along. But she just wasn’t cooperating! The girl was either to self-absorbed in her dreary thoughts, or to busy watching people pass to put one foot in front of the other. How difficult could it really be? Some days he was glad he slithered versus walking. Even if it were on four legs! “Get going we need to meet someone!”
Great, another attempt to get her to do something—Sahra hadn’t been to the mall since before they had moved. It was more convenient now; it was a lot closer than it had been. Of course this was a different mall, with new people to meet, and absolutely no familiarity. Maybe that was what was holding her back. Or it could just be unacceptance of her situation, or perhaps both? “Look Re, I just want to go home, okay?” She really just wanted to go away and wallow in a book somewhere, maybe on the roof, out of Re’s reach, away from his constant attention. He flocked like a mother hen!
“No.” He growled, proceeding to push her along. He wanted so badly just to snatch her up with his teeth and carry her, it would be so much quicker—they were moving SO slowly! He hated it. Grumbling, he slithered along side of her, watching her blank stare as she failed to speed up. He guessed it was good as long as she was still walking at any pace.
But before long, they were joined by a bright purple feline sort of looking creature, with her orange tipped wings extended. Her pink dress shone in the bright sunlight, and cast little spots of light all over the street. Her hair was pulled up, and it swished as she walked and hummed something to herself. “Hi guys!” She chimed with a wide grin, smacking them both unintentionally with one of her wings. “So we should go shopping. You look like you could use some new clothes Srra, no offense.”
Re chuckled; playfully pushing at the angelic’s legs with the end of his tail. It had been a while since they had seen each other, if he hadn’t have been planning it he would have been stunned. “I thought you were still off beyond in the land of boringness.” He said with a grin. Lately Re had been referring to anything having to do with their old home as ‘boring,’ as if to lighten the mood in hopes of striking something up with Sahra. She normally had a good sense of humor, and would elaborate or rant about random things if irked or provoked. It hadn’t worked. “So you’re going to a boarding school in the area, now, right?”
Valkyrie nodded. “Yes sir and I happen to like it here very much!” She peered over at Sahra, insisting unconsciously at how okay Durem really was. “I have made a lot of new friends. So how about that shopping Sah? Or would you rather go see a movie? There’s this awesome new action film out I think you’d like.”
A nice dark place where Re had to be quiet and she could be distracted from her life for a while. It sounded rather pleasant. As much as she liked to get new clothes, she really didn’t feel up to trying things on today. “Let’s go see a movie...” She mumbled quietly. So much for getting the cheetah into doing something!
“Okay Sah!” She said with a happy smile, “But we’re going to stop by the mall and grab something to eat first. Get Ephrem some tacos, get you some food.” She had heard the girl hadn’t been eating, or talking much. Well, she would change that, she would have Sahra blabbing before the night was over with! She’d buy her some cheap, unhealthy fast food and everything would be okay. She was sure of it.
Sahra rolled her eyes, flustered, but at the same time a bit happy to Val. It was some normality put back in her life, it felt nice. “Okay.” She smiled a bit, “I’ll do what you want.” Her ears twitched, tail thrashing, she sped up a bit, signaling more alertness.
Re grinned. Mission FINALLY accomplished! It wasn’t much, but it was something. He knew Valkyrie would do the trick. The cheetah girl just needed a bit of boldness and backbone from a strange but fashionable purple angelic to pay more attention to what she knew she wanted to do!
