Falling and Failing (Ellie Spectre)Word Count: 640 How had she ended up here?
Here being the cockpit of an airplane.
If there was one thing the blonde tomboy was afraid of, it was being in an airplane. An airplane that was flying in the sky. It was rather strange that Ellie Spectre did not remember how she had been put on the airplane. Maybe her parents had drugged her and shoved her on while she couldn't resist? Everything seemed a bit foggy. Yet, it was strange that she was in the cockpit of the airplane. In fact, there was a controller in front of her.
Wait.
Where was the captain?
Her eyes shot over to the chair next to her, which was conveniently turned away.
"You know, you really are a disappointment."
Ellie's arm shot out and swiveled the chair to facing her, only to come face to face with a pale spotted cat with a silver star on her forehead. "God damn it cat! Why th'hell didja bring me on this plane?!"
The cat did not answer her. "Such a disappointment..." was the last thing she said before a random rainbow ribbon shot through, latched onto Ellie's leg, and literally dragged her kicking and screaming through and out of the plane.
OUT of the plane.
F*CK!
This was like a dream, where you were falling, and the moment you hit the ground and were supposed to die, you woke up. Ellie let out a scream. It wasn't like anybody was there to hear it.
"You know, that just makes you sound more and more like a girl." a voice chimed in rather clearly. Which made no sense, because the air was rushing past her ears so loudly from how fast she was hurtling down to the ground. Daring to turn towards the voice, Ellie could feel her cheek try to peel off her face, rattling harshly as the wind resistance pushed it upwards. In all honesty, it wasn't something she expected to see next to her. A yellow-suited girl who looked exactly like her with a giant prissy bow fluttering behind her. And rather than trying to save herself, she was leaning into her dive towards the ground.
Wait.
How come they hadn't hit the ground yet?! "Oh my god, am I still falling?!!!"
"You talk such a big game, but you aren't anything but a pansy-a**." Sailor Iris' voice wasn't shouting, but instead, it was just conversational, which made no sense. Then again, the whole ordeal made no sense.
Ellie had to shout out "What do you mean?!"
"No wonder Sailor Castor had to save your a** twice. Can't even handle a little fall?"
"LITTLE?!! You call this LITTLE?!! This is anything BUT little!" Though that infamous saying of don't look down seemed to apply, the blonde did just that. The earth didn't look like it was getting any closer, but it didn't calm her nerves at all.
Gold eyes shot over to her falling companion and found Sailor Iris still ever confident in her fall. "You won't ever be able to do anything. You can't beat up a single negaverser. They keep killing people while you sit and worry about passing a stupid test."
"It's not stupid! My bike means everything to me!!"
"What good's a bike if everyone dies? You really do deserve to die."
Ellie's eyes had been on the ground, and within the blink of the eye, the ground was at her face. Everything turned black.

It was all over. Sitting upright and panting harshly as she woke up in a cold sweat, Ellie Spectre found herself in her room. It was completely dark, but her eyes were adjusted enough that she could see all of the clutter of her room.
"...it really was a dream..."
And it really had ended in the cliche fashion for the typical falling dreams.
Typical.

Reintroduction (Ellie + ********* style="font-size: 10px">Word Count: 1,163 Things were just getting way too out of hand for Ellie. It was one thing to have a secret life, which in all honesty, the blonde only tended to on a "need be" fashion. It was another to have so many responsibilities in said secret life. Killing monsters, saving innocent bystanders, but on top of that, now she apparently was supposed to be on a team and help locate other senshi?!
Today, sitting and studying her little DMV pamphlet was not going to help. She needed to really be doing something. Certainly, the tomboy could go walk to Hank's place and laugh it up with Phil, but that wouldn't help at all. She wanted to talk about this issue, but she couldn't talk to any of her friends about it. Unless suddenly Phil, Zuniga, or Jared decided they would wear little short shorts or skirts and fight the Negaverse with Sailor Iris.
"That ain't happening," she grumbled out.
No, she couldn't do a lot of her usual activities. However, there was one thing she could do. Rather quickly, she tugged her garage suit on and went down the stairs, bounding down the steps so she skipped 2 steps each time. Ellie was going to spend some quality time with The Vortex. Out of habit, the girl pushed the garage open manually. It just never made much sense to her to use the remote when she could do it herself just fine. Then again, lots of things didn't make sense anymore.
Like this whole Sailor Scout issue.
Heaving out a sigh, she picked up a small screwdriver and rolled herself under the mess of a vehicle. With all of her free time getting sucked away thanks to fighting monsters, it was no wonder that her progress with the Vortex had slowed down so miserably. The girl remained under the vehicle, carefully tightening a few screws into place when she heard something.
It sounded like a bell.
The tomboy decided to pay it no mind, remaining under the vehicle until she had taken care of what she had set to doing. With that, she pushed herself out from under the car.
Only to find a somewhat stocky gray spotted cat there. With a silver star in the middle of her forehead and a silver bell around her neck.
Ellie was far from amused. In a sour voice, she asked "What do ya want?" as she stood up and went to get a rag to wipe herself off.
The cat glanced left, then right, as if to make certain that nobody was around. Once content, she looked at the girl, who was rather obviously looking away. If there was one thing that this cat could not stand, it was a lack of attention when she needed it. Right now was one of those times. So rather than waiting in place, she popped back up to her paws and began to trot along with the blonde girl. The whole time she moved, the bell about her neck sang out sweetly. The girl eventually stopped and found her rag, only to find the tailless cat bumping her head against her leg.
"I wanted to find out your name," she said rather honestly. She looked up hopefully at the girl.
It was as if Ellie had found something amusing in this statement, for she snorted out rather loudly. It was a rather undignified response, but there was nothing dignified about Ellie Spectre. She didn't do things like that.
"What? Yer fancy 'magical cat' powers can't even tell ya somethin' as simple as a name? God, yer pathetic!"
The cat glanced up and shook her head at the eyes which were practically now staring at her. The eye contact was good. The expression to match it, well, that wasn't so nice.
"I did tell you that I didn't really know much about my girls. I know the scout names, and I know what senshi you are, now that I found you. I don't know what your parents named you. I don't know what you do during your free time or how old you are. That is who you are, right?"
There was a slight pause so the feline could pad away a few feet so she could get a better look at the girl. "At least, I guess I didn't know what you liked before. I think I have an idea now that I've seen you like this." The cat paused long enough for a blink. "By the way, just to reintroduce myself, my name is ********* wastin' yer time, cat." In comparison to the look she had been giving ********* initially, Ellie's expression had softened slightly. "Tryin' t'butter me up inta joinin' ya isn't gonna help any. It ain't gonna speed up the decision I need t'make."
Her eyes were still on the cat, as if watching to make sure the cat didn't pick up some sort of tiny car part off the ground and run off with it. Girls did stupid things when pressed with something urgent. And ********* made it seem as if this whole Asteroid thing was pretty urgent.
The cat didn't seem offended by the reaction. If she had a tail, it probably would have been flicking about behind her in a smug fashion, for in all honesty, she had somewhat predicted this tomboy's reaction.
"Well, it is my decision on how I spend my time. If I feel like wasting my time, then that's what I plan to do."
********* knew she wasn't wasting her time. If there was one thing ********* didn't do, it was waste time.
The girl continued to look at the cat, and the cat continued to look at the girl. It was hard to tell if there was any sort of understanding going on, since both cat and girl seemed to be equally as stubborn, though in completely opposite fashions. The girl had dead set opinions that refused to budge. The cat didn't let things bug her too much, so she could handle dealing with someone who was rather stubborn.
Yet, something eventually broke this silence.
"Ellie."
Pause.
"Ellie Spectre."
For a moment, the pale cat seemed to beam at this accomplishment. "It's nice to meet you, Ellie Spectre." Almost like a dog, she offered her paw in the girl's direction.
This was not a rather common thing. The girl's brow lofted up slightly, and she dared to lean down and take the paw. "Yeah... sure... whatever..." With a prompt shake of the paw, Ellie turned back to dump her rag off.
"Is there a reason why yer stalkin' me?" she asked before turning back to face the cat. Maybe the blonde just hadn't been paying much attention when she turned her back, because when she glanced back, the cat had all but vanished. Ellie hadn't even heard the telltale bell jingling as the cat ran off.
"...what a day..." she grumbled out before getting back to work.

Stars and Stripes and Spots (Ellie Spectre)Word Count: 714 There had been changes in Ellie's life.
Changes that came in the obnoxious form of a cat.
And these changes were not going unnoticed.
Sure, that first day she had been reintroduced to the pale feline known as *********, things didn't seem very strange at all. However, one thing that became pretty evident in the tomboy's mind was that she would not be getting much peace and quiet.
And she was right.
Each day when she left for school, she felt a bit on edge. It was as if someone, or rather, something was following her. Had this sort of feeling occurred before meeting *********, she might have transformed and fought off whatever it was that created such an annoying feeling. Yet, instead she would just push forward to school, moving as fast as she could just to avoid it. Certainly, Ellie was cutting her walking time in half with her sudden need for speed. During school, she didn't need to worry. Cats didn't have the ability to open doors. It was sad to say that school was one of the few places where the tomboy now felt safe. The trip home was much the same as heading too school.
And thanks to this cat, Ellie Spectre had become a temporary shut-in. Last thing she needed was the cat learning of other places that "Sailor Iris" hung out. The blonde frequently tried to study for her motorcycle test, now that she was stuck at home, but even that would occasionally get interrupted by that same annoying feeling.
One day, when her mom came home from work at a decent time, Ellie had been greeted with a simple "Have you been leaving food outside?"
Of course, Ellie had not, and she told her mother such.
"That's weird!" the brunette lady mused, rounding over to the dining room table that her daughter was sitting at. "There's a cat sitting on our doorstep. I tried to shoo it away, but it didn't seem to get the idea. I figured maybe it had found some food and figured it would stay to get some more." The lady shrugged, then went to settle herself in the kitchen.
An hour later, her dad came home. Such a rarity this was for both mom and dad to be home in the same evening. However, his greeting was very similar to that of his wife.
"Hey, there's a weird cat sitting outside!"
Ellie retorted with a simple "It's probably just a stupid cat."
The man swept in from behind and glanced over his daughter's shoulder to see what she was working on. It was that DMV pamphlet again. Seeing nothing wrong with this, he clapped his hand along the back of her shoulder in a familiar fashion.
"Just because you don't like cats doesn't mean they're stupid!" he said with a laugh. "Beside, it was rather unique lookin'! I'm not used to seein' cats without tails. I found it kinda nifty. It probably belongs to someone, since it has a bell around its neck." He paused and glanced towards the door again.
"I bet whoever owns that cat is pretty lucky. Not everyday you see a cat with a star on the middle of its forehead."
Ellie sounded unimpressed as she waved a hand about lazily as if to say "Yeah, yeah, what's your point?" However, that wasn't the what she planned to say at all. "Yeah, stars, stripes, an' spots! Whatever, it's totally special. It's still a cat." She paused to look at her dad. "And I still say it's stupid."
The man shrugged, then slipped into the kitchen to check up on how his wife was doing and how dinner was going. The blonde teenager was left alone, and for those few moments she was left to think to herself, she had managed to decide something.
This cat wasn't going to leave her alone.
It was just going to keep following her until she at least confronted it again.
God damn it. I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow...
********* had won this round. However, Ellie Spectre was not going to go down with a fight. No. She would just have to come up with a plan for how to deal with this Guardian Cat.
She would be prepared.

The Birthday Grind (Ellie Spectre)Word Count: 1,134 6:00 am - Ellie woke up, just as she usually did. She had never been the sort to linger long after her alarm went off. She had popped into her school uniform pretty quickly, checked to make sure she had everything in her bag she would need for school today and ran down the stairs to make herself breakfast.
6:15 am - As she passed the dining room table, she noted a bright yellow envelope with the words Happy Birthday written in her mother's fanciest handwriting. Her mother was well known for writing neatly. The blonde paid no attention to the card beyond that point, simply wandering into the kitchen to grab a microwaveable burrito from the freezer, popping it into the microwave for the proper amount of time so she had something to start off her day. In all honesty, she could have opened up that envelope to see what her gift was. It wasn't like her mom or dad were even home to see. However, there was one thing that Ellie never did. That was opening her presents before her birthday. The day might have been right, but the time hadn't come. Soon enough she was out the door and walking to school, just like any other school day.
7:00 am - As was her usual deal, the girl had made it to school early simply so she could spend some good quality time in the auto shop classroom. There was nothing particularly special about today. She just settled in, putting on the proper safety equipment, and did as she always did. She knew how to kill time while waiting for homeroom. For a brief moment, Jared slipped into the auto shop and greeted his friend. However, he knew very well how his tomboyish friend worked. He knew what the day was, but he wasn't going to say a word. Unless he wanted a punch to the gut to start his day off. Jared, like most boys of his age, tended to prefer having a punch-to-the-gut-free morning.
9:55 am - The day had gone by pretty normally until this time. Ellie sat in class and learned as she usually did. Yet when the end of her second class was drawing near, she started to watch the clock. It was 9:55 am. That time had no meaning. Strangely, her golden eyes remained fixed on the clock, literally watching the time tick away. Soon enough it was 9:56, then 9:57, and shortly 9:58.
9:59 am - The moment the clock ticked to one minute short of 10 am, Ellie Spectre simply thought to herself Happy 17th Birthday. It was a running joke in her family that she had been so impatient to get out, that she couldn't wait until 10 am to be born and had come out kicking and screaming at 9:59 am. Considering the type of girl she had grown up to become, it made plenty of sense. Typical Ellie being typical Ellie. When the bell rang, the newly turned 17 year old girl didn't even utter a word about having just added another year to her age. Today was just like any other day. There was nothing special about March 25.
4:30 pm - The whole day went by just the way Ellie wanted. Nobody making a big fuss over her. Just treating the day like every other day. In all honesty, the tomboy could never understand why other girls got so giddy over people making a fuss over them. She had watched those girls wander around school the full day with balloons acting as a neon flashing sign saying "TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY, I DEMAND YOU WISH ME A HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" She had walked home by herself as normal, since she had decided to remain after school for a bit to work more in the auto shop. The girl slid in the door, and soon enough was passing the dining room table once more. That yellow envelope was still there. Ellie ignored it and wandered back up the stairs to put her backpack down in her room. She pulled out a few books so she could get started on her homework and came back down the stairs.
4:35 pm - "You know, you should be more careful when closing that front door. Unwanted visitors could sneak in if you aren't careful." By the time the blonde had returned back down the stairs, there was a pale tailless feline on her dining room table. Her pale green eyes flickered to Ellie's golden ones for a moment, then back to the envelope on the table.
"So, it's your birthday today?" The cat had asked the obvious question, following it with another general question. "How old are you now?"
Ellie snorted out slightly. It figured that the cat was going to be the first one to get on her nerves about March 25. "I'm 17... and it's no big deal cat." Not wanting to dwell on the subject any longer, she walked up to the cat, picking it up by the scruff of the neck and walking ********* to the door.
"Well, in any case, I wish you a Happy Birthday, Ellie!" If it was possible for a cat to smile, this cat was most certainly doing such. Even as she was tossed out, landing on her feet on the walkway with the door getting slammed behind her. At least ********* gave it the old college try, right?
8:00 pm - Her parents were both late tonight. It figured. Then again, when half the week they were typically "late," it really was an average day. Sighing, she figured it would be okay to open up that envelope without her Mom or Dad. If Ellie Spectre was a thing like her mother, she would have pulled out a letter opener and made a nice clean cut to open the envelope. Instead, she had more of a style akin to her dad's, which involved using your finger and making a jagged rip along the edge of the envelope. Inside was your basic birthday greeting card you could buy at any convenience store. Nothing special. Perhaps the only thing that had any value to it was the mention of her gift. Another year of being able to buy parts for her project in the garage without having to worry. It was an appreciated gesture, and perhaps one of the few things in the day that caused her lips to curl up for a smile for the briefest of moments.
The rest of the evening went by pretty quickly, and soon enough the blonde tomboy was in her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her birthday. What an uneventful day.
Yeah, Happy Birthday to me she thought almost sarcastically as she went to bed.
Happy Birthday to me.

Serial Rapist what now? (Ellie Spectre)Word Count: 656 On occasion things would happen in the city that Mrs. Spectre would want her daughter to know. Yes, Ellie was a daughter, no matter how much she tried to act like some punk boy. However, most times it was hard to actually make time for her daughter with the busy schedule she had to work with. So Mrs. Spectre had a system that she worked out with her daughter, regardless of whether Ellie wanted it or not.
Today was just your average school day (much like her birthday had been if you asked Ellie), and when Ellie woke up, she got dressed in her uniform as normal, and bounded down the stairs as normal. Both Mom and Dad were gone for the day. This was nothing new, since they always had to leave for work really early since they had to commute.
It all would have seemed normal if there wasn't a newspaper on the dining room table.
"Oh great..." the tomboy muttered as she passed on towards the kitchen. This was a sign that her mom wanted Ellie to read the article she had marked off. Usually, the articles were downers. Mom could never mark off some newspaper article about how a new type of car was coming out and here was the newspaper's take on it. As she heated up a burrito in the microwave, she snuck back into the dining room and glanced over the article.
"After an alarming string of recent incidences of brutally injured Crystal Academy students being admitted to Destiny City Memorial Hospital's emergency room, police have begun to investigate the rumor of a Crystal Academy Rapist! According to inside sources, the principal of Crystal Academy is their chief suspect! Campus security's been tightened around Crystal Academy."
After this point, the article dwindled off into interviews with some of the Crystal Academy students. It wasn't worth reading at all.
"...god... what the f*ck was Mom thinkin'?" she snorted out before dashing back to the microwave to get her breakfast. Last time Ellie checked, she didn't go to Crystal Academy. Yeah, obviously her mom was concerned, but obviously this rapist was targeting the powder blue uniform adorned girls. Creep probably had some sort of fetish for upper class school girls.
As she ran out the door to start her walk (or rather, jog) to school, she couldn't help uttering "God, I ain't th'high class girl that creep would want!"
Unfortunately, the blonde was not the sort who could drop a subject so easily. When most people could go out, take a walk, and completely forget what had made them upset in the first place, it was rather the opposite for Ellie. She jogged, and though she was able to see where she was going, she truly wasn't taking in the sights. Instead, her mind was filtering through the purpose of that article being left out for her.
Obviously, Mom had been worried. It was a way to warn Ellie to be careful. However, delving into it deeper, the girl eventually found an angle that really pissed her off.
Was her mom suggesting that Ellie Spectre could not defend herself in such a case?
That was JUST like Mom to try and bring her daughter down a notch! God, Mom was such a b*tch! Sure, Mom didn't know that Ellie Spectre was Sailor Iris and could easily just behead a basic rapist. Oh, how would Mom feel if she knew that her little "baby girl" was able to defend herself perfectly fine?
The world was rushing past her as she continued to make her way to school, and soon enough, school property was right beneath her feet. Stewing over something that pissed her off did tend to make the trip to school go by extra fast. Either way, the expression the tomboy was now wearing easily warned everyone nearby Do not disturb.
This was definitely going to be one of those days.
