If there was one thing you could never really accuse Ellie Spectre of, it was of slowing down.
Tonight was another one of those "fend for yourself" nights, since her mom was on a business trip, and dad was staying late at the car lot. In all honesty, the blonde tomboy could have made this trip on the way home, but then the food would be all cold when she went to eat it later for dinner.
Reheated Mexican food was not as good as relatively fresh Mexican food.
So instead, she had gone home, and now at about 5 pm, when the sun was slowly starting to set, the girl was ready to run back downtown to her favorite Taqueria. Of course, her usual pathway was blocked off (stupid officials closing off the park), so she had to take the long way. At least she didn't have any sort of appointment to keep today.
Everything seemed to be going well enough. She was nearly where she wanted to be, there was no pesky gray-spotted cat following her, and she was about to get some really awesome food for dinner. That should have been a sign that something bad or annoying was going to happen to ruin everything. The saying was "ignorance is bliss" for a reason.
Rather carelessly, the tall blonde girl ran around a corner, not really watching where she was going. And literally ran into some person. Sadly, this wasn't the first time she had ever done something like this. In fact, with Sailor Bellatrix, she had managed to literally run into her twice in the same day.
"Oh, sorry 'bout that...um..." she had apparently run into a pink-haired girl (what was with all these pink-haired girls lately?!) "...chick..." she finished off lamely.

Spring was coming, you could feel it in the air. Blanche was decidedly feeling it in her wardrobe that day, and had gone all-out. It was a special occasion, for she was about to meet Ray at his school and they could travel home together after one of her typical days listening to the strange jargon and interesting colloquialisms of the Average American Teenager.
Personally, it gave her a headache. But it was the quickest way to learn a language except for straight-up speaking it to another person. It was somewhat unfortunate that Blanche had no interest in speaking to anyone, had no desire to make friends around the town. Speaking to that other girl, Robin, had been nice enough but it wasn't the same at all. She wanted to go home!
So there was a certain amount of dismay when the spiky-haired blonde came barreling around and slammed straight into her, almost knocking both to the ground. Had she gotten anything on the pastel tea dress, she might have killed the girl then and there. Thankfully, all it did was push them back a few steps and rough up her arm somewhat against a nearby wall. The girl spoke quickly, as they all did, but Blanche distinctly caught the important word - 'sorry'. Brushing the sleeve of her beige coat off with a light sigh, she shook her long pigtails.
"Sorry, yes. Watch please?" Blanche tried, she really tried, to keep the irritation out of her voice, before noticing that with the jolt her bag had spilled all over the pavement. Notes were moving in the light spring wind, and a look of horror flickered through red eyes as she realized that both iPod and cell phone had painfully hit the concrete. Crying out exclamations in her native Japanese, the young woman bent to scoop them up, but was too slow and a gust started to blow her carefully-written daily notes across the sidewalk.
"Quick! Get!" A hand flew out as her angry and panicked face expressed to the girl who'd so rudely bumped her the dire need to catch those pieces of yellow paper.

Pink hair and Asian-eezy. Oh Ellie was beside herself. It showed how worldly the tomboy really was not, since she couldn't understand what this girl was saying. For a moment, she blinked her gold eyes wide at the girl.
"Ya must be a FOB, eh?" she eventually offered before the slightly simplified request was made. "Get" and the girl seemed to be trying to grasp some papers must have meant "Get those papers!" Wow, that was a stretch for Ellie's brain.
"Yeah, sure, kiddo!" she said with a big grin before literally hopping to it. The blonde wasn't exactly a master pro at this sort of thing, but it also wasn't like brain surgery or anything. She managed to easily snatch up the few closest pieces of paper, and rather quickly shoved them back to the pink rabbit (she looked like a rabbit damn it!) before running after the last few scraps that had fluttered off maybe 5 feet away. It might have seemed silly, but it wasn't really like the tomboy was trying to impress anybody. For a moment, she swooped in with her arms stretched out almost like an airplane before snatching up the last few papers.
"There!" Spinning around on the ball of her foot, she turned back to the girl, big grin still on her face. As she walked back, her eyes were naturally drawn to the paper's surface. Yeah, Ellie couldn't read it even if she wanted to.
"Seriously, sorry 'bout that, kiddo! Hopefully nothin's broke or injured!" Standing herself up in front of the girl, she held out the last few papers.

Oh god, it was a dialect. Though Blanche tried to smile warmly and thankfully as she gathered up the papers and folded them up in her purse, she couldn't keep the dawning horror at the total language gap between the sidewalk occupants. The language on its own was bad enough, but to add in the various ways of speaking?! It was like going down to Osaka and trying to hold a civilized conversation, the accents were absolutely atrocious sometimes! Not that Blanche had ever done this, but she'd heard stories and that was enough, really.
"Injured? No, I am fine. Broke...broke..." she murmured before eyes lit up with understanding and she beamed. "Broken! No, I do not think! Thank you very much!" Bowing politely as she'd been taught, the young woman introduced her self. "Blanche Williams, pleased to meet you miss." It was the first full phrase in English she had mastered, as manners were everything. Ray had been surprised, and then amused to teach her this. "You are in...a big rush?" The words were a bit clumsy still on her Japanese-taught tongue, but came out clearly enough.
Why were there so many words in this language?!

For a moment, Ellie just stood there, brow quirked up slightly at this display. What the hell was that? "Eh... I guess nobody taught ya th'proper way t'greet someone in the U.S." she mused aloud. "I ain't no king or queen, so th'bowin's unnecessary... and I ain't no 'miss.'"
Rather promptly, she thrust out her right hand in an attempt to show a true "American" greeting. "Name's Ellie Spectre. An' when ya meet someone out 'ere... ya shake hands!" Her golden eyes glanced to the rabbit's hand, then back to her face.
"I promise, I ain't gonna bite." The blonde was still grinning from ear to ear. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she couldn't help but wonder how a girl this foreign could have such a bland American name as Blanche Williams. Seriously? Who the hell named their kid "Blanche" these days? It honestly made 16 year old Ellie think about spitting up food she didn't like. What about those 5 year olds in kindergarten? They would probably have a field day making fun of such a name.
Being one to speak her mind, she soon enough found a question that could not go unanswered. "So, kiddo, where do ya come from?" Ellie wanted to know what to call this girl. "Asian-eezy" didn't quite fly when you said it aloud.

Looking at the hand, Blanche all but sighed. She knew that. She'd known that, but had been so disoriented by the strange version of English the girl - Ellie was spouting that she had defaulted to her heavily ingrained set of manners. Of course, all she'd caught was the gesture and 'ya shake hands'. She could only surmise that 'ya' was some strange dialect for the word 'you'. She tried using it.
"Sorry, ya made me forget." That didn't sound right on her tongue, the carefully and precise voice along with that shortened pair of vowels. Laughing softly at the strange sound of it, she smiled and shook Ellie's hand. "I am from Tokyo. Japan?" Recalling her birthplace she turned her smile to the tower in the distance. "Much much more big, but not so pretty now and then." There was some amusement in her voice at the word 'kiddo', a word she'd learned from Ray early on. She was indeed younger than him in any form, but for this obvious highschooler to call her that was indeed amusing.
Thinking of the dialect, Blanche was pleased to have a question to ask in return. "You are from here?"

After the handshake and small explanation (aww, how cute, she used "ya" in her apology), Ellie seemed absolutely unaffected by how awkward it was dealing with a foreigner.
In reaction to the apology itself, the blonde waved a hand at her as if to dismiss the notion. "Nawww, dun worry 'bout it. You'll get th'hang of it after a while." Once the motion was up, the tall girl stretched her arms out, then tucked them behind her head, almost as if out of boredom. Yet, despite her previous running, she did not seem to be in any sort of rush now.
"Japan's an island, right?" Yes, Ellie just asked a stupid question. She did that every so often. Her smarts weren't in the worldly affairs or geography. Toss something that had gears in it at her, and then this girl would sound really intelligent.
The question about her own place of birth didn't go unnoticed. "Yup, Destiny City, born and raised!" There was that temptation to bust out some Fresh Prince of Bel Air rapping, but it would probably be for the best if Ellie did not add to the confusion with such a stunt. "Are ya lost or somethin'? I could probably show ya t'where ever yer tryin' t'go."

Blanche was suddenly, horribly tempted to start spouting Japanese at the girl in her most proper dialect, the one that she'd learned in Crystal Tokyo and was generally called her 'princess' voice. Of course it would probably confuse her even more if she used the form of Japanese popular with Usagi and her friends in Tokyo, with random English words borrowed here and there.
But that would be mean, and she was trying very hard to keep this identity as differentiated from Black Lady as she possibly could. To suddenly antagonize poor American teenagers who couldn't help the fact that she knew no English would absolutely blow the idea of the poor, innocent sister in law now wouldn't it? So Blanche simply took off the words she could understand like 'lost' and 'show', surmising that 'tryin t'go' was akin to possibly going, and pointed in the direction of the Destiny City suburbs. "I am going home, that way. I think?" Pulling the chic phone from her purse, Miss Williams looked down at it and positively groaned. Of course it was dead now. Of course the battery had fallen out.
"Nee, maybe you can? Walk a bit maybe?" Maybe she could learn to decipher the girl's accent by then, and could tell Ray all about it. He would probably be thrilled with the idea that she was figuring things out all on her own, though hopefully this particular pattern of speech wouldn't be used overly much. Otherwise, she'd go crazy.

The Destiny City native shrugged her shoulders at the mention of walking with her. "That's up t'ya, t'be honest. Have ya had anything t'eat fer dinner yet?" The tomboy glanced in the direction of where she had been heading. "I know a good Mexican food restaurant a ways up. If ya want, y'can tag along. I'll pay... kinda as an apology fer runnin' inta ya!"
Yes, Ellie was aware she was talking to a foreigner.
No, Ellie hadn't quite figured out the fact she was probably talking a bit too fast for Blanche.
"They've got th'best tacos! Super authentic. Can't get any better than this taqueria if you want authentic Mexican food!" Her lips pulled back into another wide smile.
"What'cha say? Come on, ya know ya can't resist the offer of free food!"

Food? It would take a whole lot more than a language barrier, a decent heaping of corruption, and the promise of Ray Gordon home for dinner to divert Blanche's attention from any sort of proffered food. Even if she was mildly annoyed and developing a headache, the idea of free dinner sooner rather than later was a lure too irresistible to the former Tsukino Usagi. Red eyes lit up and almost astonishingly her attitude towards the teen who'd knocked her down changed drastically.
"Free food is best! I love to eat. I very much do!" Excitement shone in her lovely face and almost immediately she started to move on before realizing that she was, perhaps, going in the wrong direction and laughing softly to herself. "Ano...which way?" Hands crossed and each pointed in a different direction almost comically as the young woman became exponentially more likable. Apparently, the way to anyone's heart was generally through their stomach, not just men!

Though most people would have acknowledged the personal space bubble, it seemed someone didn't really notice it at all. The minute that her offer had been taken up, Ellie had a big grin on her face and clapped a hand a couple times along the rabbit's shoulder. "At'a girl!!" she said one time before chuckling a bit.
Eventually, the blonde abandoned her post by Blanche's side and began to walk ahead. Hands were thrust into her pants pockets and when she was just a bit ahead, she glanced back. "Jus' follow me, and y'll be fine." Blanche did not look like the sort who would want to run across the town just to get to the Taqueria a few minutes earlier. If that had been the case, she might have grabbed the pink-haired kiddo's hand and run. No, this girl seemed too reserved for something like that. Instead, Ellie Spectre just began to walk, assuming that the rabbit would be hopping along, practically clinging to her heels the whole way.
"So, kiddo, what brings ya out 'ere anyways? Ya got family out 'ere or somethin'? Or is this a permanent move?"

The ringing clap on her back had made her wince just slightly in surprise more than pain, but this was not unusual to Blanche who had grown up in a ridiculously demonstrative extended family. In fact, it was generally considered odd if Minako wasn't exuberantly thrusting herself onto you for some sort of affection. In fact, living with Ray, Blanche had begun to miss it. Heels clicking rhythmically as they walked, her buns all but bounced with excitement of trying new food. Maybe she'd pick up a few goods words to use on Ray too, and that would impress him and potentially make up for the fact he would probably wonder where she was.
But sometimes, it was good for men to worry. Smiling a bit wider at this, she responded enthusiastically to Ellie's question. "I am not here for long, my husband's brother is here. We had a small problem, so I came here for now. I like it, Destiny City is very nice." Except for that small senshi problem, and the fact that she was under some very strict instructions to not wipe the city off the face of the planet. Other than that, it was very nice. "What do you do here?" Innocent question!

The mention of marriage only seemed to cause a whistle to escape from Ellie's mouth. Not an impressed whistle, but something more along the lines of "Oh brother, marriage!"
"Eh... marriage is overrated..." she muttered, looking out towards the path rather than to the pink-haired girl behind her. Ellie wasn't your average girl when it came to the topic, and she wasn't about to put on a mask to pretend otherwise. Heck, if anything, she should be more honest, because this rabbit wasn't exactly going to be able to understand half of the things she was saying anyways.
Even with the fact that this girl had just stated she was obviously married, the blonde still saw no problem with addressing her the way she tended to with anyone that looked like they belonged in high school. "So, kiddo, how old are ya?" It could have easily been a FOB 18 years marriage. Of course, there was a question tossed in just short of her asking her own question.
As they turned a corner, for a brief moment, Ellie turned to look into this girl's cherry red eyes. "Well, depends on what sorta answer yer lookin' for. I like t'stir sh*t up all th'time... but are ya lookin' fer hobbies or somethin'? Or jus' th'daily routine type'a crap?"
Spinning on her heels, she turned back towards where the restaurant was. "Come on, we're almost there, kiddo!" With a sloppy gesture for the girl to follow her, she resumed the walk. The building itself was in sight, and honestly, did not look very impressive. It was small, kinda old, and looked like there were some cracks along the walls.

With a flippant wave of her hand, Blanche dismissed her marriage and did not try at all to try and change the tomboy's mind on the subject. As far as she was concerned, this fake marriage was as much a hassle as a help to her, but as always, Ray's image had to be taken into consideration. It was always quite important that things not seem out of place, if you were going to hide out in the open. It had been covered in the rudimentary Bad People course somewhere along the line.
"It will not last long, I think. I am...well. It is not nice to ask that! But I am over twenty-one. Under twenty-five." Arms folded across her chest though she was still sort of smiling. The thought that she was actually fourteen would probably not have gone over well, especially as she was claiming to be married. With the urging, she picked up her pace and jogged ahead in her heels, an old practice at doing Strange Things in the pointy shoes. Being a senshi did have some perks from time to time! "Well I do not work, do you? School maybe? Those things." The concept of 'stirring s**t up' was still new and something she would have to mention to her housemate. Swearing was not really something she'd picked up so well, not yet.
Holding the door, she took one look inside and could have clapped again with delight. It looked like definitely one of those seedier places, where the best food was always found. Promising times were ahead, for sure!

Ellie's mind went to the place that most teenagers would have with the answer she was given. "Oh, so yer legally able t'buy booze!" If she even gave a damn about alcohol, she might have tried to butter the girl up to maybe get her something to drink later. Yet, that wasn't something Ellie was into. Actually, for being such a "down in the muk" sort of tomboy, she was actually rather clean cut with drugs, smoking, and booze.
As the walked in, Ellie led the way to the counter where they could order. A couple of the workers from the back peeked their heads out, waving to the familiar blonde girl.
"Ey, 'ey! Que pasa?" the girl laughed out. Ah, Spanglish, you were really a fun thing to screw around with. Any answers she might have received from the workers were ignored for the moment as she then pointed out a couple things on the menu resting on the wooden counter.
"Okay... dunno how well ya do with spicy sh*t, but if yer a wuss, then ya should stick with stuff on this side of the menu. If ya like things hot, then ya can order from this side of the menu." Her voice paused as a finger literally pointed to one item that had an asterisk next to it.
"That's the spiciest dish they got 'ere... ain't fer th'faint ov'heart!"
She laughed, then instructed "Let me know what ya want an' I'll order it up." It would have almost seemed as if she was ignoring the question she had been asked, but in all honesty, Ellie was just trying to leave something to talk about while they waited for food. Awkward silences really sucked, especially when there was a girl involved.
