After Fumi sprayed a potion onto Pins' wounds, the two set off to find another opponent to face. Things were going well so far; the girl wanted to keep the ball rolling for as long as her team could manage. The first gym leader wasn't going to be a pushover, so she had to put as much effort into training her Pokemon as she possibly could. The pacing she was going at wasn't tiring Pins either which reinforced her thought process they could keep going.
"Chespin!" Pins gleefully cried to get Fumi's attention, pointing a ways from where they were. Following the trajectory of his paw, Fumi saw that he'd found their next opponent. Not wasting any time, the girl put out her Pokedex to sneakily scan the wild Pokemon.
'Ralts, the psychic fairy Pokemon. If its horns capture the warm feelings of people or Pokémon, its body warms up slightly.'
Fumi raised a brow at the dex entry. 'Another emotional Pokemon? What were the chances? While she was thinking this, the fledgling trainer barely realized that the entry had alerted the dual type of their presence. It didn't matter much at the end; Pins had made quick work of the red horned Pokemon so much so that she felt a little bad from it. Regardless, she took another free pokeball to try to catch it, this time fully aware of what she was doing. She figured if she was going to be a trainer, she'd need all the help she could get. It seemed that she didn't need to feel so bad as the Ralts broke free from the ball, seemingly still ready to fight. Impressed by the wild Pokemon's determination, Fumi threw another pokeball wanting to claim it as her own. One, two, three. Click. When the ball stopped moving the amber-eyed trainer internally cheered while her Chespin did so outwardly. As soon as it was a confirmed capture a notification popped up in her Pokedex notifying her that she could only have a maximum of six Pokemon in her party. Moments of pondering later, Fumi decided to bench her Litleo since she already had a second fire type on her team.

With the latest battle with the Ralts concluded, Fumi finally took notice of the diminishing field of vision as the sun was starting to set. 'Hm... I better start looking for a place to stay,' she thought to herself as she returned Pins back into his ball, but not before thanking him for the hard work he put in today. While she did have the equipment necessary to camp out on her person, she thought she could save time and energy by finding a hotel or at the very least some sort of lodging service to stay in. She'd have to sacrifice some money, but she figured it'd be well worth it considering how tired she was already. And luckily for her the task didn't take that long to accomplish at all. A quick monetary transaction later, followed by a much needed shower and the girl found herself on a comfy bed, ready to get some much needed rest. As she laid in bed, the tiredness had taken her over and the young trainer somehow drifted off to sleep.

Scarlett smiled as Ashe elaborated on Kalosian treats. "I like the way you think." She chuckled, enjoying the idea of a celebratory galette after conquering the gyms here. "As they say, victory should taste sweet." Scarlett mused, rubbing her chin thoughtfully.
It was nice that Ashe could appreciate her methods, complimenting her use of the earlier gyms to train newer additions to her team. "My thoughts exactly." She nodded. Rather than openly crushing the gyms, she'd much rather use them as an opportunity to train and appreciate the gyms and difficulty at their level. Then it would be far more satisfying when she inevitably won. "Yes, I imagine most of the challengers are just starting off their journey, but the point of being a challenger is that there is... Well, a challenge. I take no pleasure in one sided battles." She agreed. However, she did quietly acknowledge that sometimes such battles were necessary.
In talking of pokemon, Scarlett inquired to see Ashe's. He seemed surprised by the request initially—wait, no. Scarlett tilted her head. Not surprise... There was more of a curious interest in his tone than base shock. "Yes?" Scarlett raised her eyebrows a little, as if surprised in his interest. "What, don't tell me no one's ever asked? I mean, I suppose traditionally you ask via battle. I wouldn't mind either way." She laughed a little, shaking her head, all subtle ways of making her request seem as harmless as possible. However, Ashe had them out training—something Scarlett probably aught to be doing but given her history with letting her pokemon out of sight, she was playing things a little closer to the chest. "That's fine, I don't mind waiting, but you don't have any pokemon with you right now? That seems dangerous, what with Team Flare on the loose around here. Or at least that's what I've heard." She commented carefully, a balance of neutrality with curiosity. There wasn't concern in her tone, at least not overtly so. Not because she didn't care—it was more that she trusted Ashe was a smart man, and couldn't imagine he would leave himself completely unprotected.
However, Ashe also insisted he was only a novice trainer. Perhaps he simply wasn't concerned about pokemon battles. People did have other ways of protecting themselves—something Scarlett could certainly attest to. "A job that has you traveling without being a full time trainer? Do tell. Perhaps I should get a career change. Half my reason for becoming a trainer was for travel and independence." She laughed, though it was mostly because the thought of an actual career change seemed so preposterous at this point that she couldn't help herself. "I'd be happy to give you pointers. Perhaps we can have a friendly match sometime, you and I. After all, that is the best way to learn. How many badges is a few?" She asked curiously.
It took all Scarlett had not to grin wildly when Ashe suggested they bring more adventure into their lives. They had seen eye to eye on a number of things, but this... This was something else entirely—an unspoken mutual understanding. Scarlett managed to fit her excitement into a constrained, small, contemplative smirk behind her water glass as she appreciated the new twinkle in Ashe's eye. That was the look of a man who knew about the thrills of danger and was addicted just as much as she was. She could easily see themselves gallivanting into some Kalosian ruins and getting into loads of trouble, if he was up to the task. It was almost a pity she'd picked an alias who was supposed to be slightly incompetent in that area of expertise, but she could make it work without ruining the fun. "That's a fair point. History wasn't made in books." She chuckled, her eyes growing distant for a moment as she spoke the phrase. There was a certain softness to the way she carried those words, but in an instant it was gone as her attention moved to the bill.
She had started to insist on chipping in, but Ashe stopped her—politely of course. "Oooh.... I hadn't even considered that. You're right, I simply must add to my collection." She chuckled. Of course, the kinds of souvenirs she collected were not the kind money could buy. Still, Scarlett was appreciative of Ashe's coverage nonetheless. Perhaps it was her ego, but she really did enjoy being treated so well, even if it wasn't necessary. "It's good to see that chivalry is, in fact, not dead." She tipped her glass to him in a toasting manner before "recounting" how she had come across Cleopatra. "That was my intent, but I'm afraid that was a particularly windy week, so I didn't get very far before I had to retreat and move on, lest I get caught in a sandstorm. I do plan on going back some time and trying again though. The Relic Castle has certainly been on my list." That part at least was true. She hadn't been able to do nearly the amount of exploring she had wanted to do last she'd been at the Desert Resort. Besides, she still needed to collect a few more badges from Unova.
With that, she excused herself for a moment to see who in the hell had suddenly started spamming her xtransceiver, and once that was dealt with, she returned to Ashe, ready to move on. "Not at all~ I did want to meet your team after all, and I'd prefer taking the scenic route to the gym anyways. It would be a crime not to soak in the beauty of Kalosian architecture and nature and just make a combeeline for the gyms." She insisted, following Ashe out of the cafe with Cleo at her heels.

Ashley let the smile that had been hinting on his face finally blossom a bit, dipping his head a bit in a bow as a silent sign of his appreciation for the comment. It wasn’t often that you found another who could appreciate the way you considered things if they even cared at all. It was good to give praise where it was deserved (or at least where he felt it was deserved).
Scarlett was a bright woman and continued to prove. Attempting to keep challenges ‘challenging’ (as much as that was) to maintain the satisfaction of overcoming them was something he could respect for the most part. He didn’t entirely mind a one-sided battle; but only if he was the underdog in the situation. It made it all the sweeter when the tables were flipped.
But he digressed.
The conversation shifted to pokemon and Scarlett didn’t miss the oddness of his response, returning with a bit of a surprise response of her own. He chuckled softly to himself, leaning a bit to the side briefly as though sheepishly thinking about it before he straightened up once more. "Ah, non. They have not. Of course, to be quite honest. However, I have not had much interaction with ze trainers of the region," he commented thoughtfully. Had he really fought anyone? There were a few trainers… possibly. And the Team Flare idiots in the cave.
He could have done without being reminded of that awful encounter.
Which seemed inevitable as Scarlett brought up the dangers of being without pokemon; with them as an example. His expression immediately changed, eyes narrowing and a curt frown formed on his face, a serious hint of disdain included.
"I am not afraid of zee pathetic dolts that are Team Flare," he stated flatly. Even if it was clear that the redhead wasn’t worried for his safety, given her tone, it was clearly a very sour note to him to have the local team of Kalos mentioned. They could all catch on fire to match their tacky as hell fashion sense, for all he cared. They are nothing more than a nuisance. I should hope you have not had trouble with them, madam." He certainly hoped not, if only for her sake; they were a legitimate stain on the good that was Kalos.
Returning to a more pleasant disposition (and pushing the terrible memories away from his mind), Ashley chuckled some at the inquiry concerning his work. "Ah, my work iz not that exciting. I simply deal with ze I.T. work for my organizations; maintaining ze databases and information. Very uninteresting work for most." Which wasn’t far from the truth, it was his day job. Though it wasn’t the reason he was out and about and he wasn’t going to divulge that; it was just uncouth. "I assure you, you are in a far better position it sounds for achieving what you would like. There iz no better reason to be a trainer than for the freedom, non?"
"I would not mind that at all, though I am sure you would wipe zee floor with me and my meager team," he mused politely concerning a battle between the two. For a moment, his expression went to a concentrated one as he though really trying to recall his badge count. "I have acquired four from ze region," Ashley answered, "And yourself, madam?" He imagined, with some level of certainty, that she already had quite a few at that point.
Ashley watched Scarlett as she mused on the idea of indulging in more adventures, silently taking in his observation as she also seemed to grow distant in thought. Interesting.
"But of course. I would not be a true man of Kalos otherwise," he teased lightly, tipping his own cut as she did hers before listening as she went on to explain how she had come across her pokemon, clarifying her intentions and destination. Ah, well he supposed that made sense then.
"That is fair enough. I should hope you are able to visit it at some point; it is quite ze piece of history. Do you know much of it?" Thinking about it, that was a place he really ought to visit at some point as well. Maybe once all was said and done work-wise, he’d arrange to go. Maybe his sister would want to join him? He’d keep in mind to ask her.
They regrouped and Ashley gave a smile and nod, please to hear that the detour was not only not an issue, but welcomed. "Excellent. There iz much to appreciate, I assure you. Santalune has amazing architecture. A nod to ze traditional European style if you will," he remarked and began to lead the way through the city, towards the fountain center. "In fact, if I recall correctly, there iz a trainer school located here as well. Quite a few trainers choose to make their start there; have you yourself had any form of formal education?" He inquired curiously as they went, leisurely strolling down the cobblestone walkways so that Scarlett could fully enjoy the scenery.

Though Scarlett knew that Ashe's primary job was not that of a pokemon trainer, it still surprised her that Ashe claimed to not have had much interaction with trainers in general. "Really? Seems like you can't toss a stone without it hitting a couple of trainers these days." She chuckled to herself a little, her slightly morbid sense of humor finding the image amusing. Still, she didn't take Ashe to be a recluse either. He was well-mannered and open to adventure enough to where she would be quite surprised if he hadn't at least done his fair share of socializing. Then again, Scarlett of all people was not one to judge a book by it's cover, even if she acted like she did sometimes.
It seemed the topic of Team Flare was a sore one for Ashe, if his furrowed brow and pursed lips were anything to go by. Still, in spite of his obvious irritation, Ashe also confidently dismissed Flare as little more than a nuisance, and Scarlett had to bite her lip in order to try and contain her urge to grin. It wasn't often that she saw someone get worked up over something they also deemed as trivial. It was... Strangely refreshing. Perhaps even more so because she was not the source of his irritation. Rather, it almost felt like he was indignant for her, if she'd had the misfortune of encountering these unsavory individuals. "Thankfully, I have not." She reassured him with a quiet chuckle. "I suppose it's one of the very few perks of not traveling extensively through Kalos until now." She shook her head and sighed. "If it brings up such unpleasant memories, then I won't press you for details, but I am curious to know what your experience was with them, just as a precaution and preparation for any encounter we might have in the future." That, and to know what exactly they did to make Ashe's face pucker up at the thought of them like he'd just tasted something unpleasant.
There was also the question of just what sort of work monsieur Ashley Fontaine did for a living. The same work that had him furiously typing and scowling on a computer at a tropical paradise, and sent him traveling around the world without emphasizing pokemon or meeting trainers. She finally got her answer, but as inglorious as IT work was, Scarlett was satisfied with just getting some answers. "Perhaps, but someone has to do it. Without you, I'm sure the company would be in shambles." Scarlett smiled encouragingly. Though that wasn't all of the story, Scarlett's mind had little issue filling in the gaps for her. Maybe the company he worked for had lots of buildings and he traveled to each of them to solve major issues? Maybe he was called on for advice? It was easy to both imagine and not question too much when she had little reason to suspect him otherwise. "Very well; you have a fair point. I certainly enjoy the freedom~ I could never see myself working a desk job." She laughed with a strange mixture of bashfulness and relief.
Once Scarlett learned about Ashe's surprising lack of experience with pokemon and battles, she happily offered to help him with some training, tips, and tricks. Ashe seemed receptive, though he also pointed out that her team would likely wipe the floor with his. "I probably could...." She flashed a mischievous smug smile, as if considering it. "It would defeat the purpose of the battle though." She relented at last, laughing it off and making it clear she was simply teasing with a dismissive wave of her hand. "I'd adjust my team accordingly so that it would be a fair fight. Arceus knows I have the numbers to do it." She shook her head, vaguely acknowledging her pokemon collecting problem. How many did she have now? Too many to count, that was for certain.
"Hey! We aren't that far apart then. The most I have for one region is five badges." She suggested encouragingly. "In total though? I have...." She had to think for a moment, albeit for different reasons than Ashe. She had to count, rather than recall off the top of her head. "Well.... A lot. I've made a point of fighting at least the first three gyms in each region, with the exception of Kalos and Alola. I know I went up to the fourth gym in at least two regions... Then there's the five I have in Sinnoh, so that's..... Niiiiineteeeeen....?" She counted on her fingers just to double check. Wow, that was more than she had expected. She enjoyed badge hunting though. They were quite beautiful, all lined up in her badge case, each one shining like a little token trophy of her accomplishments as a trainer, just like her collection of artifacts on her ship from her adventures. Yeah okay, she had a problem, but she didn't care. She'd collect as many trophies as she damn well pleased and no one was going to stop her if she had anything to say about it. "It's really only the consecutive ones that count though. As far as showing a trainer's strength." Something Zak was more than happy to remind her of, however she was using it now to provide (hopefully) some level of comfort to Ashe. She hadn't meant to show off (for once) and rub her badge count in his face. It just.... Happened, because she herself was taken by surprise as she counted up the total.
As they finished up their meal, Ashe insisted on paying the bill on pane of Scarlett saving her money for souvenirs and the like, which she appreciated. She smiled with amusement when he attributed his chivalrous behavior to being a true man of Kalos. "Here here~" She chuckled as they tipped their glasses and finished their beverages of choice. "I've heard some things.... Like that it's the ruins of some ancient Unovian city from thousands of years ago. I don't know how much stock I would put into such a tale though. At least, not until I'm able to actually go see it for myself." She suggested. "I mean... Unova seems to thrive on tales of its past, full of myths and legends. It all seems to be a bit far fetched, if you ask me. Still, even I have to admit it's far more fun to imagine that Unova was built with the power of legendary dragons. What do you think?" She asked with a chuckle.
Of course, Scarlett was also practically raised on these tall tales, encouraged to let her mind wander, and to imagine the unimaginable. It almost hurt to pretend like these legends meant nothing to her, and that it was all just a fairy tale. However, when her father disappeared, she had to face facts and learn to accept what was realistic, and what was fantasy. Even now, she struggled to see the difference between her delusions of grandeur and what was actually attainable.
Especially when her path had never been so clear.
She just needed to train and get her team stronger.... Not for Zak, or for something petty like personal achievement. Oh no. She needed to be stronger so that even the beast of the Hoenn seas was no match for her, so that the oceans would be hers to command, so that a wealth of uncharted underwater exploration would be as easy as snapping her fingertips—ah, but she was getting ahead of herself.
Once she had her xtransciever messages under control, Scarlett left the cafe with Ashe towards the gym, albeit with a slight detour to retrieve some of Ashe's pokemon first. "So I've noticed. I particularly love the attention to detail in every structure, from the windowsills to the streetlamps." She glanced at the trainers school that Ashe pointed out. In truth, formal education was foreign to her. "Yes, in a sense. I attended some classes, but mostly worked under private tutorship." That wasn't entirely a lie. Everything she had learned had been with her father, teaching her as they traveled. However, when he disappeared, Scarlett recalled Skye's family encouraging her to go to school with him in Striation City. It was.... Not one of her fondest memories. "However... Experience has always been the best teacher, even if it's not particularly the most pleasant one." A grim smile crossed her features.
"You said your pokemon were at this fountain?" Scarlett asked, glancing around as they reached the town center. There were a few pokemon out and about, some wild fletchling pecking at breadcrumbs at the ground by a table, flabebe tending to the local flowers, while other pokemon clearly were with their trainers. However, as the reached the fountain, Scarlett looked into the crystalline water's rippling surface, admiring the glittering, multicolored coins that had sank to the bottom. It was likely the accumulation of multiple wishes made at that very fountain over the years. She supposed it would be a waste not to join in, and took a coin out of her bag. The coin turned fluidly between Scarlett's fingers as she closed her eyes and quietly thought of a good wish before flicking it into the water with a satisfying sploosh. "I hear that the fountains in Kalos are supposed to grant wishes more often than other fountains. Why do you think that is?" She asked contemplatively. "In any case, I can cross that off my bucket list."

A chuckle escaped his lips at the remark. "Ah yes, that iz very true. I suppose I simply make it a habit to, how you say, stay out of ze public eye," he said. He certainly enjoyed socializing from time to time, but the kind he often engaged in wasn’t one you found amongst young bustling trainers. At least not to his knowledge and if it was … well that was for someone else to gamble on. "It iz important I avoid being distracted from my work is all."
Ashley shook off the sour memories of Team Flare, trying to regain the pleasant composure he’d had before their mentionings. "That iz good. I should hope you never will," he said, tone quite curt despite his efforts. He did hope that the woman didn’t have to ever deal with them and hoped that he himself would never have to as well. Otherwise, there would be a rather large pile of bodies that Interpol would need to dispose of; an idea he knew they would not appreciate in the least bit. His temper over old memories sizzled at the kind remarks, smile returning as he gave a nod. "You are very kind, but I would not dare bore with such rubbish. Let us say it was ze sort of experience any one might expect." Except for the drill and getting knocked out by falling debris. That was probably not something every experienced. "... I would advise avoiding any caves they happen to lurk in though."
The smile once more turned to a smirk at Scarlett’s remarks, though this time the Frenchman refrained from another chuckle. "That iz very kind of you." It was nice to get a little bit of praise for the work he did, meager as she more than likely believed it was. Managing the security for Interpol wasn’t exactly a job that earned him much praise; rather there was critic at every moment that a breach happened, no matter how minute. Which again brought forth sour memories; it was beginning to occur to him that he’d had a lot of those since starting out. A shame.
"Ha! You are very humble, madam," he placed a hand to his chest, "I am honored by your generosity both in ze teaching and of not wiping ze floor with my meager team." It dropped back to his side as Scarlett recounted the number of badges she’d earned. "That iz quite ze impressive count. I am a bit jealous," he teased. Not really, but that was still a healthy count and he’d gathered from her demeanor and parts of their conversation that she was an adventurous type and engaged in the trainers journey. It only made since that she’d acquired so many badges from other regions. "I may in fact need to steal your idea. I enjoy the idea of such an organized manner of badge collection." Not that he’d be pursuing such a thing; the badges he had were only a pet project to give him reason to be in the field. He was well aware of that.
"Ah, I must confess I am not one to much faith in ze legends. But I agree, it iz an entertaining thought," Ashley mused. Meal paid, they were on the move, with the Frenchman pointing out known architectures for Scarlett. "Ah, a private tutor? How fortunate," he remarked, noting the odd grim smile crossed her face. "I should imagine they were strict? I have heard tales," he hadn’t been so fortunate with his school after all and if not for the public teachings, libraries and the internet, he might’ve been on the same level of intellect as a certain Aussie. That sent a shiver down his spine.
"Oui, they should be." Ashley adjusted his glasses and took a step or so away from Scarlett to get a better look around, glancing back as heard the ‘plop’ of something dropping in water. "I am uncertain. It may be for ze legendaries that are known in ze region. Of life and death," he paused a moment in thought, "and what better a force to fulfill the ambitions and wishes of others than those?" Another chuckle, though more so for the grim thought that passed as he made mention of such an idea. After all, it was a safe bet some of those wishes had been for the misfortune of others in some way or another. It wasn’t something he’d bothered to do. Ashley was a man who preferred to be in control of his own fate as much as he was allowed.
His attention shifted away to locating his team again, eyes conveniently locking with the mega Audino shuffling his way with an excited Cassiel chittering about his stubby legs.
"Alphonse," Ashley greeted with a nod as the pokemon came to a stop before him. The Audino nodded himself and offered up the pokeballs of his teammates that his trainer had entrusted to him. The man took a quick count to assure they were all there (they were) before returning them to his belt. "Très bien. I should hope you all were able to get a healthy amount of training done?" The Audino gave a bit of a lazy look that seemed to suggest their experience hadn’t been nearly as fruitful as hoped.
Shameful. Ashley shook his head and looked down to the Gekkit who had taken the hem of his pants in his mouth, tugging violently to catch his attention. "Ne faites pas ça." He snapped quietly at the pokemon, kneeling down and tugging his pant leg free and tucking the creature sort of under his arm. Cassiel squirmed and yipped, attempting to n** at Ashley which earned him a swift but gentle swat on the snout. "Non. Stop." The Frenchman made his way back over to Scarlett, Alphonse following behind. "I apologize for ze delay, madam Marquee. I have retrieved my team," he made the slightest gestures to the pokemon, "if you would like to continue to ze gym, we may do so. Or would you prefer to explore ze town further?"

Ashe's reasoning made sense, and it got a light chuckle out of Scarlett. "Heh. I suppose I can sympathize with that." She admitted. There were certainly times when she didn't want to deal with anybody or any one, and certainly times where she needed to focus on her work rather than socialize. Sometimes the two needs even overlapped, where she needed to make damn sure she wasn't seen, but generally she was more of a social person.
And speaking of avoiding social interaction, it seemed that Ashe had quite a grudge against Team Flare. He didn't seem to want to linger on the unpleasant memories and potentially sour the mood, but he sufficed to warn her away from caves, which was an odd addendum that had Scarlett raising her brows. "Avoid caves...? Alright, I'll keep that in mind." Well now she was just dying of curiosity to hear the story behind this, but she wouldn't push Ashe to tell if he really didn't want to.
As a sort of apology, she tried to compliment his position in work, make him feel important. The classic ego boost so that he didn't feel too angry about bad memories. It helped that Scarlett did genuinely think his role was important, even if it was a minor one according to Ashe. She did have to flaunt a little when it came to badges though. After all, with an adversary like Zak to keep comparing herself to, she had little chance to actually be proud of what she had accomplished and accumulated thus far in the eyes of someone else. Perhaps it was petty, but she enjoyed the attention and respect, so she would take what she could get. However, Ashe's response was priceless, going on about how he appreciated that she didn't plan to completely obliterate his team. "But of course! What else are companions for if not to pull their punches in battle?" She snickered. It seemed they shared the same dry sense of humor as well, though Scarlett certainly had her suspicions.
"Feel free to copy me. it is the highest form of flattery after all. Anything to support a fellow OCD collector." She chuckled. Organized badge collection, huh? She liked the sound of that. It was pretty accurate for her methods. The only problem was that she didn't just stop at badges. Old coins, ancient artifacts, historical books, accent, information, pokemon... She obsessively collected everything that captured her interest, keeping it all under lock and key behind cold glass for her admiration only. One of the few things she could control in her life, and another odd tick about her that one wouldn't guess at face value.
It was disappointing to hear that Ashe didn't believe in legends, but she couldn't really blame him. He seemed more like a realistic idealist, but at least he'd been polite about it rather than outright dismissing the very notion. They talked about their education briefly, and Ashe seemed interested in her private tutelage. "Yes, very strict, but it was for the best. I frequently learn better from the ah... School of hard knocks, so to speak." Scarlett chuckled. She was conflating truths to hide the real story among them. Technically her father had been her private educational tutor, then she tried public school while she stayed with Skye and hated it, but Cassandra was the strict underground tutor for later in life. Cat would kick her a** seven ways from Sunday and tell her it was for her own good. The worst part was that she wasn't wrong, the damn b***h....
As they neared the fountain, Scarlett made a wish with some spare change in her pocket, smiling fondly when Ashe theorized that the fountains in Kalos were rumored to be more effective due to the patron legends of the region representing life and death. "And here I thought you said you didn't put much stock in legends~" She teased lightly. From her tone it was obious she didn't doubt his assertion, It was more likely that Ashe was simply well informed making him the perfect tour guide for the region, but she saw the opportunity to tease and had to take it.
Her attention turned to the pokemon that approached. One named Alphonse, a pokemon she'd never seen before, white with cream accents and an over-all medical theme about it. Scarlett clasped a hand over her mouth to hide her smile because Arceus it was so cute and fluffy dapper looking with it's stubby little legs and the formal way it greeted Ashe. Then she noticed the young gekkit tugging at his pants hem which he quickly corrected with a stern but gentle smack as he picked the little fox up in his arms. Now Scarlett couldn't help but let out a gleeful giggle. She didn't know what she was expecting but this was not it. Ashe had just... the most adorable pokemon and there was a fit of giggles that was threatening to tear her apart, but Scarlett barely managed to maintain her composure. "No problem at all. I'm in no hurry. I didn't know you had a gekkit! They're quite the handful aren't they?" She smiled her own mischievous, fox-like smile at Cassiel and was greatly tempted to wiggle her fingers at him and rile him up, but judging by Ashe's interactions with him, she knew that encouraging his behavior would probably not be appreciated.
Perhaps later she could introduce Luna to them, but only when they were in a more open space. It was a bit crowded here. "Hmm... Might as well hit up the gym and get moving to the next town. After all, as lovely as I'm sure the trainer school is, I have no desire to go back to school now that I'm free of it." She laughed. "After you, monsieur Fontaine~"

Ashley could appreciate how he and Scarlett seemed eye to eye on various situations. Socializing, traveling, working and the like. It was a refreshing change of pace from the regular stiffs he often found himself associating with. It was also nice to have someone willing to give a compliment about his work. He didn’t need the ego boost, he was actually quite content despite what others thought, but still.
It was nice.
He chuckled at her remark, giving a genuine smile (or maybe more of a smirk, it was always hard to tell with him), head dipping into an appreciative nod. "You are much to kind madam," he coyly remarked back. "I shall make sure to do your tactics service. It would be a shame to tarnish a budding reputation." He adjusted his glasses, smirk still on his face as he considered the idea. Was it truly OCD? A bit of thought suggested that, yes, it sort of was. But then again, there was only one real way to get badges to begin with. The nature of the design had it that an individual would run through, beginning to end, each league. Why not do so efficiently?
But then again, that was only if he ever chose to pursue the idea. And he did not.
"Ah, that iz understandable," Ashley commented as the talk of education continued. It was rather interesting to hear her proclaim that she learned better in such an environment. She appeared so headstrong, it seemed she’d have very quickly resented it. Then again, remembering his own upbringing, "There is truth in learning from ze negatives as much as ze positives, non?" Was it a good thing though? That was for someone else to worry about.
"Ha," he quirked an eyebrow and shook his head. "Ah you have caught me. I am a walking contradiction, in ze flesh," he said with an equally amused tone. He could tell she was simply pulling his leg over the remark. "But I believe there is some truth to ze legends, ridiculous as they may be at times." His attention turned to his pokemon, retrieving the balls and getting a (silent) report on the matter, as well as dealing with the overly excited Cassiel.
Ashley just barely caught the sounds of what sounded like a giggle (or maybe a muffled gasp?), turning to look at Scarlett curiously, a slight frown crossing his face; not of anger or annoyance, but just honest confusion. "Are you certain…?" He glanced at the Gekkit in his hands, an eyebrow quirking as she commented on the matter.
"Ah, oui. He happened to stumble his way into my care," he remarked, eyeing the squirming fox who seemed to take an interest in the woman and the taunt she gave, gekkering at her. "Oui. He iz… quite ze handful indeed." The Frenchman really needed to work more with the pokemon before he eventually got out of hand. But that was a task for another time. "Do you know much about them?" He was fairly certain the pokemon was not a common one, so her recognition was interesting. Maybe he could actually learn a thing or two along the way.
Ashley nodded, tucking Cassiel more firmly in the crock of his arm. "Oui, that iz an excellent point." He turned and resumed leading through the town as the designated guide. "This way." It was a few minutes before they finally came to a pause outside a rather large building that resembled an art gallery of sorts.
"Here we are, ze Santalune City gym." He commented and then with a swift move, pulled the door open and ushered for Scarlett to enter before following right after. He paused once inside, gesturing with his free hand to a desk across the way. "Ze building is both an exhibit for ze gym leader’s photography and ze gym itself. If you would like to challenge her, you may request to do so over there. Of course, we can also browse first before your battle. However you would prefer to proceed...,"

Scarlett's small smirk nearly matched Ashe's while he coyly insisted she was quite kind to pull her punches in any future battle between then such that she didn't curb stomp his team, as well as allow him to use her OCD-esque badge collecting/training tactics. "I would appreciate that. After all, a reputation is all a girl has, and I've spent quite some time building up mine." He didn't need to know just how true that statement was for the infamous Miss Fortune. She would suffice it to say this now and leave the rest to his imagination—or dismissal. They were, after all, just having some playful banter. Who could really take their words seriously?
Scarlett nodded grimly after the conversation turned to her educational upbringing from the metaphorical school of hard-knocks. "Heh... That may be, but even then, sometimes I didn't quite learn my lesson." She mused as Ashe tried to suggest that one could learn from the negatives. It was surprisingly optimistic of him, considering what she had seen of his opinions on most things and other people. Then again, it seemed fitting that he could find a silver lining in something like this. There was just a certain... Melancholic disposition about him. Scarlett felt drawn to it. Admired him for it, even. It was funny because she hadn't really gotten this impression from the things he said so much as the tone behind them, and that strange feeling of kinship. That, like herself, he enjoyed pleasantries, and yet there was something about him in the way he talked; tired, bitter, refreshingly sardonic when they commiserated about certain topics. Perhaps it was true that misery loved company. She could see herself snarking all evening with him over a bottle of wine and it would be terribly delightful. Almost too much fun, even.
As if to prove her point, Ashe conceded to her accusation of being a walking contradiction with amusement, admitting he did believe there was a kernel of truth in legends and lore. She might just be able to convert him yet, Scarlett thought with a proud smile. "Mm, I suppose that's fair. I won't fault you for it, then." She teased. Then his pokemon approached, and Scarlett was overwhelmed by how cute they were. "Oh absolutely." Scarlett assured that she was fine with the diversion. Seeing some of his pokemon made the side trip absolutely worth it. Not that she would have complained about the more scenic route to the gym anyways. "Really? Maybe that's just something their species do... My Luna was the same way. Tripped her way into my room one night and wouldn't leave the bed. She was so cute though, I couldn't resist keeping her." Scarlett explained, wrinkling her nose in amusement when she was able to provoke a little bit of a reaction from the gekkit in his arms.
"I know a little, mostly from what I've found out raising my own. They're quite the little tricksters. You think he's a handful now, wait till he evolves and starts playing with your shadows. That's when they really start to pull shi—ah... shady tricks on you. Apologies for the pun." Scarlett chuckled, though she wasn't sure why she felt the need to avoid cursing around him, maybe the image in her mind that she was trying to present to him was an elegant and refined woman and somehow that didn't mesh well with someone who swore, but Scarlett had certainly nearly slipped up there. Passable as a stutter, hesitation for a poor word choice resulting in a pun, maybe. She hoped Ashe wouldn't notice, or care.
To help with the distraction, she released Luna from her ball. The rather large kitsune swayed her puppet tipped tails happily and looked around at her surroundings from behind the mask covering her face. "Ruunyx don't normally look like this, Luna's just a special case, but you get the idea." She smiled and scritched the fox's chin when she poked Scarlett's arm with her cold nose to seek her attention. "Do you want to show them your tricks, dear?" Scarlett asked excitedly, causing the large fox to gekker with similar anticipation before dipping her tails into the ground behind her. They disappeared into her own shadow and soon enough the dark image of a fully grown Ruunyx began to run around them in circles on the cobblestone, silently yipping and crouching down playfully. It seemed harmless since it was just an image, but Scarlett had seen what it could really do in battle. No need to scare the public with such a display, though. Instead, Luna jumped into Scarlett's shadow and disappeared, hiding there for now. "Ruunyx don't normally look like this, Luna's just a special case, but you get the idea." Scarlett glanced down skeptically at her shadow, not sure if she trusted Luna to quietly stay in there and not do anything, but she'd let it slide for now.
"She's still just a kit at heart, really. She ended up growing so fast that I'd be surprised if she's fully grown into her powers. The good news is she's just playful. I'd be worried to encounter a more... Ill intentioned one." Scarlett frowned. Perhaps that was why she'd been hesitant to really involve Luna in any of her schemes thus far. The longer she could keep the kit pure and child-like, the better. At least until they could have a serious sit-down and talk about some things, set some boundaries. Scarlett was a lot of things, but she also had a personal code that she followed fairly strictly and she didn't want Luna violating that.
After debating what to do next, Scarlett rather decisively chose to go ahead and move to the gym. By this point, only the trainer school remained and she had little desire to see it. Ashe agreeably led the way and took her to a building that looked more like an art gallery both on the inside and out. Truly fitting for a gym of Kalos. "I've visited gyms all over the world, and truly, none compare to how beautiful this one is." Scarlett was clearly in awe, looking around at the photos on display with wide-eyed wonder. It was a small but beautifully artistic collection. "I don't think I'd mind browsing a little first." Scarlett smiled, eagerly moving to one of the framed photos of a vivillon. It looked like this photo had been captured in the wild as it delicately drank from a clear water source surrounded by lush greenery, and yet Scarlett couldn't help but wonder how Viola could have gotten this close a shot without scaring the butterfly pokemon away. That must have been some zoom on her camera.
Scarlett similarly took a bit of time to admire a few more pieces that caught her eye. The temptation to come back later perhaps and steal one was very great, but she would wait and see what kind of person Viola was first. If the woman irked, her, she just might. If Scarlett decided she liked her, she might purchase a photo through more legitimate means. "Alright, I suppose I've stalled long enough..." Scarlett sighed, making her way over to the desk that Ashe had pointed out earlier and requesting a match. The man led her to the middle of the museum and removed a panel of the flooring before pressing a hidden switch underneath. The floor nearby shifted to reveal a passageway below the museum with a fireman's pole as the only way to traverse downward. Scarlett's face lit up at the sight, and without hesitation, Scarlett grabbed ahold of the pole and jumped in, sliding rapidly downwards into the darkness below. When she landed, she felt the some kind of mesh-like material catch her and bounce her back up like a trampoline, but when her eyes adjusted to the darkness, the whole floor looked like one giant spiderweb. "Now that, is what I call a gym." She beamed, moving aside and looking up at the small entrance up above. "Come on in! The web is fine." Scarlett called up to Ashe with a laugh, moving aside so that he could come down too—if he dared.

Ashley chuckled to himself in response to her remark that she wouldn’t fault him for his bit of hypocrisy. "Meric, madam. You are most kind." It was clear that Scarlett clearly had a thing for these legends and lore, given the large smile on her face in response to his admission. He’d never quite encountered someone who was so enamored with such tales, but there was a first time for everything.
The French man didn’t believe the remark that everything was okay but didn’t press further. Instead, he focused on the bits of information she was able to provide regarding the Gekkit species, equally surprised and interested in what she had to offer. "Is that so?" He tilted his head as she made mention of a ‘Luna’, his grip tightening on the Gekkit as he tried to squirm free in response to the teasing. So she had a Gekkit of her own? What a small and unexpected revelation. Even more, so that the creatures were tricksters and had a fondness for shadows. That was the last thing he expected from the unknown species. He couldn’t help a smile though as Scarlett caught herself in her cursing, shaking his head. "It iz fine. Feel free to speak freely." He remarked. Far be it from him to call someone out on their language, not that he was about to expose his own vulgar tendencies.
It wasn’t long before he was able to put a name to a face, though it wasn’t what he was expecting. He had expected that Cassiel’s evolutions, if any, would be on the smaller side. Luna would’ve stood taller than him from snout to tail tip if that were possible and the accessories and mask she sported left him with an eerie vibe. Ashley gave Scarlett a bit of a quizzical look at the comment that this wasn’t their normal appearance. "Oh?" He’d seen (and owned) his own color variations of pokemon, but he was still curious what a proper Ruunyx (as they were called) looked like. That line of questioning quickly faded as he witnessed the fox melt away into Scarlett’s shadow, circling around them in said form on the cobblestone below.
"Ah…," Ashley cleared his throat, tucking Cassiel closer to his chest as the pokemon became even more excited in response to the antics of its kin. "Well that is certainly something to look forward too. I appreciate ze information madam, I would have been blind otherwise on what to expect." This made training the Gekkit as soon as possible all the more important.
Noting this for later, he moved his focus towards their travel to the gym. Ashley tagged along as Scarlett chose to browse the gallery, still trying to keep the Gekkit from causing a ruckus. He’d already seen the pictures the first time he’d been there after all. "Madam Viola has a very fine eye for detail in her photography. I have not seen such skill in others." Ashley said in agreement with the observation. "Ah, stalling? Are you worried for ze madam?" He teased humorously in response, but waited patiently as Scarlett requested her battle, following along as the gimmick of the gym was revealed.
The red head’s enthusiasm to grab the pole and slide down didn’t go unnoticed and Ashley couldn’t help but peer down. He didn’t expect the call from below beckoning him to follow; nor the mention of webbing, a chill running down his spine at the thought. He knew there weren’t any spider pokemon about, but still, even the most minor of reminders was enough.
"Ah," did he want too? It’d been a while since he’d done anything interesting and after a moment of thought, he shrugged. Why not? "If you insist madam." Taking a moment to tuck Cassiel in one arm, he latched onto the pole with the other and, once certain he wouldn’t fall off, jumped and dropped his way down fireman style to join Scarlett on the web below. It would’ve almost been a smooth landing at the Gekkit not tried to jump ship a third of the way, which resulted in a bit of a drop instead of a proper landing. Ashley managed to at least land on his feet, taking the moment to push his glasses back up before smiling at Scarlett. "Well… that was certainly a thrill. I simply took ze stairs for my challenge. A shame."

Scarlett wasn't sure whether Ashe insisting she speak freely was because he forgave her for the use of puns, or because he caught that she'd nearly cursed, or maybe both, and that he didn't care in general. "I appreciate that, but I'd still like to keep up appearances, if nothing but for the sake of practicing good behavior around those that would rather... Ah.. Not hear me speak freely, for lack of a better term." She forced a bit of a smile. That wasn't quite her real reasoning but it wasn't far off from the truth.
She was happy to distract them both by showing off her Ruunyx, taking note of Ashe's interest in the different coloration and pulling out her pokedex to give him a glimpse of the entry, along with the picture of the pokemon's normal coloration. "Here, for comparison." She offered before Luna hid away into her shadow. It was probably for the best, before she riled Cassiel up further. Scarlett was starting to feel bad, making Ashe struggle with the excitable kit. "Of course~ It's no trouble." She beamed, clearly priding herself on her knowledge. "Consider it repayment for the lovely tour." Scarlett hated to leave herself in debt, after all.
Scarlett nodded as Ashe complimented Viola's art as well. "I can tell. I'm glad to have finally seen it for myself." She smiled lightly when Ashe teased her admission of stalling though. "Perhaps. Just a little. No sense in delaying the inevitable though." Scarlett chuckled, registering for her battle and jumping down into the pit below and calling for Ashe to follow after her, if he was willing. Much to her delight, she saw Ashe come sliding down, though near the end Cassiel suddenly slipped free of his grasp and Ashe ended up having to grab him midair, impressively still landing on his feet. The heavier impact sent Scarlett bouncing upwards a small distance, but she laughed through it. "That was quite the maneuver! Ten out of ten." She complimented. "You tricky little thing! Don't do that. I'd like to have my tour guide in one piece thank you very much." Scarlett scolded Cassiel gently but firmly. "Stairs? Oh dear, you certainly missed out. I'm glad we could rectify such an error. You gotta have the full experience!" Scarlett laughed, but as she started to move forward further into the gym, she noticed that Cleo still hadn't come down with them. "Oh, sorry darling, let me—" Scarlett started to get Cleo's pokeball to return her and let her out again, but then the feline leaped from the hole, nearly giving Scarlett a heart attack before she strangely flickered halfway down, and then suddenly she was right at Scarlett's side. "...That's new." Scarlett commented quietly, staring at the cat as she brushed up against Scarlett's legs affectionately before moving ahead.
Scarlett shook her head and followed after her, weaving her way through the web-like structure all the way to Viola's hut-like canopy. The blonde woman smiled as she saw Scarlett and Ashe approaching, taking a picture as they approached. Scarlett winced, the bright light seeming far brighter in the darkness. At first, she felt mildly furious with the woman for taking pictures unannounced, in spite of the fact that she probably should have guessed that a gym leader who was a photographer would do such a thing. "Ah, fantastic! I was hoping for some new challengers! Oh, haven't we already battled monsieur? Eager for a rematch?" Scarlett blinked a few times, getting over her temporary disorientation. Cleo actually hissed loudly at the woman, though whether she was coming to Scarlett's defense, or also annoyed by the bright light, Scarlett couldn't be sure. "Think it's just me today... And, I know this is ludicrous to ask, but would you mind refraining from taking more pictures...?" Scarlett may have sounded polite on the surface, but there was a dark, barely restrained venom to her words underneath.
The fewer pictures of her, the better. The last thing she needed was Viola somehow accidentally blowing her cover by posting an innocuous photo. She would have to have Cypher amend this situation as soon as possible. "Don't get me wrong, your photography is second to none, and I'm flattered that you find me photogenic, but I don't recall giving my permission to be photographed." She continued coolly. "Oh, non, of course. My apologies! I don't intend to post these anywhere, it is simply an instinct. Please understand." Viola cheerfully prattled on, seemingly oblivious to Scarlett's hostile aura. "Shall we get started then?" Viola suggested with a smile and flourish, letting out a surskit to start.
Cleopatra stepped forward, her ghostly fur standing on end. Scarlett couldn't help but notice that she was unusually worked up, a side of her which the pirate hadn't seen before yet either. Then again, this was also the first time she had witnessed Cleo in battle in person as well. Chalking it up to that, Scarlett started to command Cleo, sure that the feline's speed would surely outmatch the surskit's, and yet, before Scarlett could even open her mouth, Viola commanded the spider. "Quick attack!" Suddenly the blue arachnid became a blur, surging forward and hitting Cleo. At first, Scarlett wasn't worried. After all, Cleo was a ghost type. Such a tactic would be ineffect— wait, what?
Instead of phasing through Cleo like Scarlett thought it would, Cleo actually seemed to take... Damage? That was weird. Had she misread the typing on her pokedex? Did they get the information wrong? What was going on??? As Scarlett hesitated, Cleo let out an angry mewl, shadowy aura gathering around her and darkening the area above them. Slowly, small shadowy wisps began to drift down. They looked almost harmless, until they touched the surskit, causing it to wince in pain and back away from the ghastly feline. Scarlett didn't recall Cleo having a move like that either, and even Viola looked quite perplexed. "Ah, what is this? It's a shame you won't let me take more pictures. I've never seen such a move before..." She chuckled nervously. Scarlett slowly snapped out of her stupor and smiled confidently, as if everything was totally going as planned, because it totally was. Yep. "I'm sure you'll get another chance with someone else's pokemon." She insisted with false reassurance. In the meantime, Cleo let loose another strange, shadowy pulse of energy, knocking out the surskit.
Oh! Such strength. Was that a shadow ball?" Viola asked curiously, sending out her Vivillon next. "Ah.... Yeah..." Scarlett agreed. She'd just go with that, though she was almost positive that was NOT a shadow ball. Whatever weird move it was, Cleo used it against the Vivillon and knocked it out quickly as well, but even though they won the match handily, Scarlett was... Mildly frustrated that she'd won without knowing how. Nonetheless, Cleo, sensing that the battle was over, strutted proudly over to Scarlett and sat expectantly in front of her, looking very proud of herself. It was nice to know that whatever strange power she had, and her attitude towards others, didn't seem to change that she'd taken a liking to Scarlett. "That's a good girl~" Scarlett carefully fell back into routine, leaning down and scritching Cleo's cheek affectionately. Probably best to stay on the feline's good side until she could figure out what that mess was.

Ashley couldn’t help but produce a slight smirk, amused at Scarlett’s desire to maintain appearances and practice ‘good behavior’. "Ah, pardonnez-moi alors. If that iz what you desire madam, I will certainly respect it." He said, placing a hand to his chest and with a slight nod of understanding. It was amusing to think that the woman thought she had to keep a certain impression in his presence. He was hardly the picture of sophistication that he presented, but he had the slightest feeling there was more to it. He wasn’t going to crush her expectations either way.
The Frenchman took the time to study the Pokedex entry as it was presented, gaze shifting between the shadow on the ground, Cassiel (who was still overly excited) and then the picture on the device. This was not just a simple color variation; Luna had a very distinct look. It was amazing.
"Merci, madam," he said, giving an appreciative smile. It was followed with a chuckle and a shake of his head. "There iz no need for any form of payment madam. Ze pleasure of your company is enough." And it was. A pleasant change from the rift-rafts, trouble makers and other unpleasant individuals; plus he got to show off his home region. A two for one, if anything.
Even more so when there was a touch of excitement. Despite the rather ungraceful tumble that Cassiel’s slip had caused, the fact that he managed to still land on his feet (and not send Scarlett flying off hers) was enough to elicit a laugh and a compliment. Ashley took a breath, straightening his glasses and giving the fox a curt look before addressing Scarlett. He smiled and gave a bow in jest. "Ah, you are very kind, madam. I must give credit to your encouragement," he mused, following after her as she moved further into the gym. He noticed as Scarlett paused to assist the cat, only for the creature to leap from the very top with no coaxing and land unharmed at the bottom. Cassiel whimpered and wiggled in his grip; not in the same playful glee as before but as though he was… scared?
The arena was the same as when he’d come and it seemed that Viola had a memory for her opponents. He gave her a slight bow of acknowledgment, stepping to the side so Scarlett was in proper view. "Ah not today madam, I am simply here as support for another challenger," Ashley said, gesturing a free hand to the redhead. He listened curiously as Scarlett requested Viola refrain from taking pictures. Not photogenic? Or perhaps something else?
The battle was over as quickly as it had started. Ashley quirked an eyebrow. The cat-looking pokemon was quite strong. ”Très bien fait, madam Marquee! Are you sure you are simply here to train?" He asked humorously, though his attention was cut short once more as Cassiel whined and tried to wiggle free from his arms. What was wrong with the Gekkit? He seemed rather put off by Cleopatra, but he’d hardly seemed to care before. Hm...

Scarlett appreciated that Ashely was so understanding, even if he seemed slightly amused by the mere idea. She wondered just how understanding he was. It took one to know one, or so the saying went. Moving on to pleasant topics, Scarlett was happy to share her pokedex entry for the evolved forms of gekkit as well as Luna's special design. She had been mildly teasing about it being repayment for the tour—Scarlett was a woman who didn't like to owe debts—but she smiled when Ashe insisted that her company was payment enough. "Ever the gentleman." She chuckled, watching him curiously through playfully narrowed eyes. "I would suggest you're flattering me, but you do seem substantially less perturbed than when I last saw you~" She commented, a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "You know, if you ever need to vent, I'm all ears. I find that it's very cathartic to snark to a sympathetic and equally cynical soul. Particularly over a glass of wine." She chuckled.
First thing was first, however. They explored the gym and took a dive feet first down into the bowls of the spider den within the Santalune gym. With her amusement of Ashe sticking his landing, she didn't notice Cassiel's fearful struggle in Ashe's arms. Perhaps it might have warned Scarlett of the strange things to come. As much as Scarlett could pretend to be in full control of the situation, she knew she wasn't. She had no idea what moves the Egyptian cat had used during the battle. It was all she could do to smile at Ashe's compliments and keep herself put together. "Merci. I am quite certain. Perhaps I simply underestimated Cleo's power. I hadn't meant for this to be such a one sided battle." She suggested smoothly. Though... This time she picked up on Cassiel's very apparent fear of Cleo, who also seemed to take notice and hiss at the wriggling fox. Scarlett quickly returned Cleo to her ball to avoid any conflict. "Apologies, she's not a very sociable pokemon." She excused the feline, straightening up.
"Well then, I should take her by a pokemon center to get her healed up, but we can do that at the next city, yes? Should we fly there or take the more scenic route?" Scarlett asked curiously. She was personally fine with either.

Ashley chuckled, though an eyebrow was quirked at Scarlett’s remark. Ah, did he? He supposed that was fair; their last brief encounter had been on the beaches of Melemele. His expression sharpened briefly as he recalled the situation he’d been involved in at the time. The hacking… actually, that also reminded him of one other connection, and he looked at Scarlett thoughtfully as he was reminded. "Merci madame, I appreciate ze offer, I may very well take you up on that. If anything, I would certainly appreciate enjoying a fine glass of vintage wine with an individual such as yourself." There was no better time after all; Faraday was marked and easily trackable and as far as Interpol knew, he was still actively engaged in his job. There was no harm in indulging himself as he saw fit; and even if there was, well, he welcomed it.
Ashley’s head tilted some at the response, finally shaking in confirmation. "That iz fair. You have not fought often with her I assume?" She had mentioned that one of her goals in taking on the lower gyms was to train the less experienced. It was still quite a punch the cat had thrown. Cassiel continued his whimpering and whining, yelping and nipping Ashley in response to Cleo’s hiss.
"Ah! Cassiel." He hissed, nearly dropping the Gekkit. Instead, he shifted him to cradle under the crook of his right arm, eyeing the bite on his forearm. Fortunately, the pokemon seemed to calm once Cleo was returned, albeit continued with soft whimpers and wiggles. Honestly, the French man had no idea what was wrong with the pokemon but biting him was unacceptable. He’d broken the skin a bit and while there were no droplets of blood, it was deep enough that the beads would be showing soon enough. Great.
Sighing, he fished for the Gekkit’s pokeball, tapping him gingerly on the head to return him for the time. "Ah, hm? I’m sorry madam, I was… distracted," Ashley adjusted his glasses, returning Cassiel’s ball to his belt while rubbing gingerly at the bite. That behavior would need to be addressed as well. "Hm," he took a moment to think. To continue her journey, they would need to go to Cyllage City and there was hardly a straight forward path there. Flying would be far more convenient.
"I will leave that up to you. Ze next gym is in Cyllage City and there are a few notable points to visit if you would like to see them. Or if you would prefer, can certainly bear wings to get there." Ashley turned to Violet, giving the woman a bow and a farewell before moving to follow with Scarlett as she made her way for the pokemon center and to discuss the option of travel further if she desired.
