A MINOR HANGOVER . . . U G G G G H . . . He slept in more than he usually did. He slept in by a lot. He was vaguely aware of Kay getting up before him and Kale wandering in and standing over him. He even felt his guardian poke him in the side and chuckle before he went off to do ... something. He heard a shifting of fabric and then Kale was gone after whistling high and obnoxiously as he left. Quint kept his head and face burrowed in his pillows and thus he was only aware of the throbbing within his cranium. It was mild, small but annoying. More annoying than Kay and anything that Kale just attempted to do and possibly even more annoying than those cutesy cartoon stories they play lately on the television.
As much as he would love to keep his head burrowed into his pillow and pretend to be an ostrich he forced himself to get up. His hair was mussed up and everywhere and he looked like death warmed over with his eyes still heavily lidded as he squinted at the painful glare of sun. Of course he rolled out of bed in the direction of the window which was now uncovered to let sunlight in. He crossed his arms over his face and got up as he lurched over and pulled at the curtains to try and lessen the light with a small hiss and murmuring in a sleep heavy voice, "The sun it burrrns....stupid sunlight and stupid Dad."
Quint turned then to get his clothes out of his dresser and soon was in the hallway (which was also unbearably bright) and took his shower and straightened out his hair which took forever since it seemed as if a rat decided to nest in it. Brushing his hair just made his head hurt worse and soon he was in the kitchen with a handful of painkillers and pouring himself a glass of orange juice.
His cheeks puffed out comically as he tasted the delightful mix of orange juice, toothpaste, and aspirin residue as it dissolved in his mouth but forced himself to swallow it down with a soft, 'blegh'. Quint knew that this could have been worse somehow if it hadn't been for Kay so his sibling would escape his wrath for now. He also found that despite the fact that he began to sober up at the tail end of the ordeal he and Kay went through last night ... His memory was fuzzy on a lot of it. He figured it wasn't anything too bad since no officers were circling the house.
When he turned around there was Kale which scared the teen as he uttered a small yelp and put a hand over his chest. Strange eyes stared at his guardian, "Hey, Dad," he muttered a bit breathlessly.
Kale chuckled and nodded a bit, "Having a bit of trouble getting going?"
Quint nodded as he eyed Kale, "Thanks for the help."
The dark skinned man just grinned, "I like being helpful. I already told Kay but...You guys need to stay away from that Aquarium for a bit. I saw the news this morning. They were a bit up in arms."
The teen raised an eyebrow, "How you know that was us?"
Kale adjusted his glasses and shrugged, "The fact that you asked me that pretty much tells me everything, that and Kay was a bit too pleased. Switch isn't that thrilled. I suggest you make it up to her somehow. She thought you were more responsible than that."
Quint's shoulder slumped a bit. Great a hangover with a heaping side of guilt. He didn't like disappointing anyone much less his own parents, "I'm gonna guess you're disappointed too."
Kale shrugged quietly, "I can't say I'm pleased but I think you should volunteer to help her at the shop for a bit."
The teen nodded a bit, "I'll do that," he promised as he moved past Kale, "I'll be back in a bit. Going for a walk for fresh air."
The dark skinned man smiled a bit and nodded, "Okay. Glad we had this talk."
"Yeah, yeah..." and out Quint went.

IT TAKES A PRETTY PICTURE . . . A P H O T O G R A P H Quint had been at a bit ...bored. He couldn't really go back the aquarium he usually visited mostly because it was advised that he didn't go there for various reasons that that shall remain unmentioned. He took care of his fish at home but that didn't seem to eat up enough of his time. He wandered into a random pharmacy that had a one hour photo developing booth built into it. He wasn't really looking for anything in particular much of the products on sale he ignored or had no need for them. There were last minute toys in an aisle that was probably there to shut kids up while parents bought aspirin for their headaches that the kids brought on in the first place. Quint took a moment in the toy aisle just to see what was there; perhaps he could pick up something for Tek? A quick glance told him that none of these toys would be suitable for his brother in any way shape or form. They were cheap, poorly made, and rather cheesy.
The people at work behind the counter watched him like a hawk and he was very aware of it. From time to time he'd glance up over at them and give them a grin showing his teeth as if to intimidate them but really he was trying to show that he's friendly, really. Okay so he was intimidating them just a little bit, but honestly he couldn't help it. It annoyed him that people thought the worst of him just because he looked like a teenaged thug. So what if he was? It wasn't like he was going to rob the place. It wouldn't be worth his time even if he did. Needless to say the people behind the counter left him alone but eyed him wearily.
He didn't give a damn what they thought, honestly, but what they did think of him annoyed him just a touch. What the hell did they know about him? Maybe he should give them something to really be afraid of. He stared at a fake plastic gun wrapped up in its cheerful packaging and clenched his fist a bit. Yes, that'd be one thing he could do. Just show them what there was to fear within him. Quint turned away from the toys and continued maneuvering around the shop trying to discard the idea that was formulating in his mind.
Quint paused quietly at the photograph developing area and stared down at the disposable cameras. He had enough money to buy himself one and it seemed kind of interesting. He'd seen photographers taking pictures here and there and they seemed like they where happy and content maybe this would be a good outlet for him and would stop the violent ideas from intruding in his mind. He didn't want to be that violent punk that they were thinking he was. The more he thought about it the more appealing the idea of photography became and besides if he didn't enjoy it the worst he'd be out is a few gold and if he did enjoy it he can save up to buy better equipment and start to get a better feel for it and maybe even take actual classes or personal lessons with someone. Yes, that seemed like a good thing to do. He quietly picked out a disposable camera to work with and started to wander toward the counter where the cashier was all too happy to ring him up and take his money despite how 'frightening' he looked. He quietly thanked them and exited the building and gazed around himself.
What could he start taking pictures of? There seemed so many options as he considered them that they almost overwhelmed him before he looked upward as the sun was starting to set. Maybe if he hurried to the pier he could take some pictures of the sunset at the beach? That seemed kind of appealing even if a bit overdone. Still, it was a good place to start.
With the place decided he started to head to the pier with new found purpose. This direction in life felt like a good one to be in he felt happy enough to even sing a little as he walked along but stopped whenever there seemed to be someone nearby that may hear him. By the time he got to the designated area the sun was hanging low in the sky and he was anxious to catch the setting of the sun and thus hurried his steps a bit...

JOURNAL ENTRY Q U I N T ' S T H O U G H T S Dear Journal,
Seems I'm going to be an uncle. It's a weird feeling, to be honest. I didn't expect it to happen - at least not this soon. I feel like I should be at least a good bit older before I become an uncle. I don't really have the experience to teach them anything...I'm probably just being a stupid s**t thinking all this but I can't help it. Victoria is having my brother's babies. That's right, babies. Plural. The b*****d doesn't ******** around when he impregnates someone I guess. Kay can't do squat half-a**.
I'm pissed at him for various reasons and want to talk to him about it and I will. Just as soon as I catch him by his chin-fluff. ********.
Seems Dad is getting that spacey look in his eye...I don't know if I should tail him this time or not...That thing told me not to but I can't help but feeling something bad might happen if I don't...Maybe I'm just being silly and worrying about absolutely nothing. That thing can take care of himself and dad... Right?
Also? I seem to be running into a lot of roaming toddlers. Seriously, I would probably have been on a leash if I was a toddler when Dad first had me. Kale doesn't strike me as the type to let me wander off like these toddlers seem to be doing. I don't know. As long as someone 'good' finds them they'll be okay, right? Oh well...
I kind of want to see Anon again. Maybe I can squeeze it in soon? I wonder how he's doing...
xxxx

A FREUDIAN SLIP...? I N A N I G H T M A R E He was sitting with Kay at the beach both of the boys sitting around in their swim trunks they were younger, happier. Nothing was difficult or complicated and everything was as it should be. Somewhere Tek was crawling around (ill tempered as always) on another blanket. Switch and Kale were out toward the shore just simply talking together in quiet tones. Quint felt happy, at peace for the most part. He turned his head to talk to Kay but suddenly the Shaman and the beach was gone. Everything was gone and Quint was in some sort of atrocious red mess of a bedroom that had frilly hearts decorating everywhere.
Quint startled when he discovered that he was suddenly his original age and mostly undressed, he was not sure what to make of this and for a few moments he was alone. The young man stood and wandered toward the windows only to see blackness dotted with small points of light and just beneath the window he last looked out of had a large 'HOTEL' sign in neon lights. Quint shook his head frowning and began to look for his clothes only to suddenly have some large calloused hands grab onto his waist.
"Leavin' me already pretteh boy?" said a gruff voice.
Quint froze and, if possible, went pale, "Who the Hell are you?! Get your ******** hands off me!" he turned and swiped at the man with a blindly aimed swing only to miss but he turned to see a large man with sailor tattoos and a bit of scruff on his chin.
The man laughed, "C'mon. This ain't what I paid for, sweetheart."
"W...What?" Quint cried out suddenly backing up into the dresser that he had been searching a few moments ago, "KAY!? THIS ISN'T ******** FUNNY!"
The man laughed again, "Thinkin' about other men on me? Lemme wipe that name off'a yer memory, pretty boy." He stalked forward reaching to grasp Quint by the waist, "You's gots a purd'eh mouf," he drawled as he leaned to kiss him, lips parting to show rows upon rows of razor sharp teeth. In a panic Quint lashed out with another punch...
...Only to fall out of his bed covered in a cold sweat. He panted softly as he ran his hands through his hair and glanced around to make sure he was where he was supposed to be. Familiar surroundings met his gaze, his fishtank, his bed, Kay's bed, everything was in the room. He had never left the room and he was safe and not about to be raped by a large man.
Good.
He untangled himself from his comforter, straightened his boxers, and padded to the bathroom to wash his face off and then he would go to the kitchen for some warm milk with honey. It was just a dream. It would only be a dream. He had nothing to fear. "Gotta lay off the late night horror flicks with Tek I think," he mumbled softly as he entered the bathroom.
Totally the horror movie's fault as far as the teen was concerned. It had nothing to do with the fact that he had eaten a bunch of pizza and sweets prior and fell asleep based on the fact that it was from a food coma. Totally nothing to do with that at all.
