Vance had gotten in trouble numerous time for getting himself separated from his father, yet it always seemed to happen. Donovan dropped his guard, and the curious little toddler wandered out of sight.
It had started out as a grand chase after a butterfly, which ended up with an abrupt fall into a pond. He'd had his head tilted up for so long he hadn't seen it coming. He surfaced with a loud gasp, and then a bit of a giggle. He found a pond! And now he was all wet, which he found to be very funny. The boy sloshed through the shallow part of the water, looking around for something interesting to do in the pond without going in too deep.

Quint had crouched near the pond a bit farther away from where the small boy had fallen in. He was admiring the stillness of the pond that is until it was crashed into and the boy was now just making many, many ripples. He stared after him and wondered a couple of things mostly wondering where the hell the child's parent was. Quint furrowed his brow as he noticed the boy had the same electromagnetic signature as him, his brother, and many other Curios he had met and sighed. He should probably help the kid and be responsible.
First he gazed around to see of Kay was anywhere nearby to torment and tease him for 'caring' about what happened to the boy. Seeing his brother was no where about he stood up and called out, "Hey kid, what're you doin'?"

Vance looked up from his sloshing to be met with an almost scary looking older boy. Almost scary. His eyes were different. Vance coked his head to the side a bit as he inspected the older boy. He had been looking for something interesting, and this strange person was certainly interesting. "Nuthin." He said with a smile. "I was chasing a butterfly. Then I fell. Theres slimy stuff in the pond!" He explained proudly, bending over to grab at whatever it was that felt slimy to him. Maybe it was just mud.
He got a good handful and raised it up, inspecting the slimy looking substance. He dropped it back in, and noticed his clothes were rather dirty from all his adventures. Oops. He'd get it from Daddy again. ...Oops. Her wandered away from him again. Vance looked up at the strange boy again and frowned. "I might be in trouble."

Quint raised an eyebrow as he watched the boy as he smiled and explained what he was doing in the pond and why. He couldn't help but smirk a bit as the boy got a handful and then dropped it back in and made his observation that he might be in trouble. He shook his head a bit and let out a deep sigh. He could abandon the boy to his fate or help him out. Quint stood up and wandered a bit closer to where he was across from where the boy stood and reached out a hand. So what if his hand would get messy because of all the muck the boy was playing with in the pond? He might as well just not worry about it until later.
He could practically hear Kay teasing him in his mind but he carefully kept his expression neutral and at least half-a** smiling so as not to frighten the boy.
"Well let me see if I can help you out. My name is Quint," he said being much friendlier with the child than he is with most other people, probably because the child was so young.

Vance looked over at Quint's hand. He sloshed through the water a bit and grabbed a hold of it. "I'm Vance." He exclaimed proudly, as he got out of the pond with Quint's help. "I wasn't supposed to wander off. Daddy told me not to anymore or I'd get grounded." He said the last word with a scary voice, trying to imitate the severity of his father's voice when he had been warned.
"B-but.. but... I saw the butterfly, and I thought Daddy was gonna follow me. But he didn't, and now I'm gonna get in trouble!" He complained, worried what grounded even meant. It sounded bad though.
In the meantime, a very worried and somewhat ticked off Donovan was looking for the boy, but in the completely opposite direction. Jeez, all he did was go through his duffel bag for a snack for Vance, and when he looked up, the boy was gone. For now, the bag and blanket had been left behind in favor of finding Vance before anything bad happened.

He took a hold of Vance's hand and gently picked off any clinging plant-life that was stuck to the boy from his trek into the pond. He listened quietly to him as he spoke and smiled a bit, "It happens, you just wanted a closer look at the butterfly, calm down okay?" Quint said in a calming tone. If anyone saw this he would deny it later or tell them where to stuff it. Right now if the child remained upset while in his presence it wouldn't do Quint any good.
Quint swallowed down his instincts as he always does, "Can I pick you up? We'll look for your Dad together, okay?" it was the best thing he could think of to do, "You can..ride on my shoulders if you want."

It was okay? Vance nodded with a pout still present, letting the older boy pick off the bits of pond plant-life that had made Vance their perch. The man wasn't that scary. He was calm and gentle. Like... Tynne! Only a tall male guy. And sharp toothed. And tall. Yes, very tall.
Vance nodded, smiling knowing he was gonna get help finding his dad. His eyes widened a bit at the additional suggestion. His smile widened too, looking elated. "I'll be SUPER tall!" Success! Vance reached up anxiously to be perched on Quint's shoulders. Surely he'd be able to see the whole city from up there, right? Well, he only really needed to see the park, but... still~. "Better than stilts!"

Quint couldn't help it. He smiled back at the boy and then when the boy was agreeable he picked up the boy as he stood up straight and managed to get the boy upon his shoulders with little issue having had some practice with his little brother as of late. It didn't matter to Quint that the boy was a mess.
He chuckled as he moved forward after he was sure the boy was secure, "Glad you think so, twerp," he said with actual affection in his tone. Something very few get to hear from him. "What's your Daddy's name? Do you know?"
For whatever reason the tall youth couldn't bring himself to be his usual foul mouthed self but then there was no call for him to be that way at this juncture.

Vance made himself comfortable atop Quint's shoulders, looking around at the world of a tall person. He held onto the top of Quint's head to keep balance, smiling and looking around some more. Vance giggled at the affectionate name calling, not really knowing what it meant, but just that it was said so nicely.
"Daddy's name is Daddy!" Vance said brightly. Oh, but that was something only he called him. Everyone else called him... "Oh! Adults call him Donovan!" He said suddenly, quite proud of himself. "A blue haired lady called him Jackassh once..." What did that mean anyway? She didn't look happy...
So then he needed to find his daddy! He called out for him, looking until he spotted the blanket they had set up. "There!.... but he not there..?" How strange! "Our food is there, but Daddy isn't. Is he lost too?"

As long as the kid didn't pull his hair or anything Quint didn't foresee a problem. He moved forward quietly as he listened to the young one chatter a long with a small (he'd deny it later) smile upon his lips and uttered a small chuckle at the names that the errant parent apparently had, "Quite the list of names he has," he observed quietly as he walked along. When Vance called out for 'Daddy' he gazed around to see if anyone acknowledged it and even called out the name 'Donovan' but there was no response and only the scatterings of food and blanket.
"Mmm," Quint said quietly, "it'll be alright Tadpole, we'll keep walkin' til' we find him," he assured as he started walking again gazing around and sometimes calling out the parent's name.

Vance cheered, glad that his time with Quint wasn't over. He was also happy to still be up so high on the teen's shoulders. The little toddler wiggled his feet as he looked about the park. "Daaaaaddy? Where aaaaare yooou?" He called out as if his father was the one that was lost. Yep. Vance wasn't lost! No way...
Donovan could hear the faint calling of his little boy from his place in the parking lot. He had thought Vance might have headed to the truck if he was lost. The young man whipped his head around, looking for the green toddler somewhere nearby. He walked back toward the park, finally spotting the strange pair just ahead. Well, Vance certainly made friends quickly. Donovan was lucky his boy ran into good people, at the rate the toddler kept getting lost at.
"Vance!" He called out, jogging toward the pair---HOLY COW! That was one freaky looking teenager. Donovan was a bit weary, but nodded at the young man. "Thank you." He said with a sheepish smile while ruffling his own hair a moment. Sure he wasn't aiming to be father of the year, but losing his kid so much was getting to be embarrassing. He didn't even come here to hit on girls! He'd had every intention of playing wit Vance. Sigh. "Vance, I told you not to run off on me." Donovan warned with a semi-light tone.

"Donovaaaan," Quint called out faintly. He didn't seem to mind the boy wiggling about on his shoulders if anything he (very secretly) liked it. There was something innocent about children this age that made them (dare he say it) adorable and easy for him to want to interact with without wanting to strangle someone. At least this child he didn't mind dealing with. This was, in all likelihood, a one time thing. Yep. No more toddlers and children after this.
When the Guardian came running up he felt a bit of relief because he was starting to have those weird squishy thoughts about himself being a parent, finally he was going to be rescued. He didn't seem to care or note the weary behavior or even call the other man out on it. Quint reached up and patted the small boy's shin, "No problem. He got a bit messy in a pond and stuff. He ... was just trying to play with a butterfly is all. He's alright," Quint informed simply, "I am sure he thought you were nearby."

Vance was delighted his father had been found, though he hoped he wouldn't be pulled from Quint yet. He felt rather attached, despite only knowing him for a short while. Such was the life of Vance.
Vance decided to hide his guilt over wandering off in a very mature way. He put his hands on his hips and looked down at Donovan, shaking his head. "Daddy, don't go running off like that. You was lost, and we was so worried. Right?" He leaned over Quint's head to get a look at the shark-boy's face. Donovan stared up at his cheeky son, a bit baffled. He chuckled suddenly and shook his head. "Oh dear. Sorry, Big Man." he replied to his kid. No use being cross with the little guy. It was always hard to anyway.
"Are you all filled up on butterflies, or did you want lunch? Your.. friend is more than welcome to join." Vance tapped his chin like this was a serious matter. "I gotta consult my assistant." He declared in a 'serious' tone. He leaned into Quint's ear not so subtly. "Wanna have lunch? He gots cookies and sammiches and crackers. And soda."

Quint, oddly enough, didn't seem in a hurry to dislodge the toddler from his shoulders and just stood there as the small boy gave his parent a verbal dressing down. There was a small smirk of amusement on his lips that he couldn't hide, the kid was pretty sassy! Quint approved more or less and said nothing to correct the boy and only said, "Yep. I was Real worried, too," when he was questioned about his feelings about the disappearing parent. He was playing along with the boy. This surprised Quint since he never saw himself doing any such thing but here he was.
He blinked at the invite to lunch from Donovan and then listened to the boy 'discuss' the matter with him. Quint felt a chuckle escape his lips before he could even contain it (and he tried really hard) and nodded a bit, "Sure, Tadpole, why not...I don't have anything better to do before I gotta go home."

Donovan chuckled and shook his head at the pair. The nickname for Vance seemed to amuse him as well. It was pretty amusing seeing this teenager abide to Vance's whims. The young man with sharp features seemed friendly enough despite his appearance. Vance's track record with strangers was holding up well. Donovan offered Quint to sit down, as he himself sat himself down. Vance clung to Quint's head. "I wanna stay up here~." The toddler sang, rubbing his head against the teen's hair. Quint could sit down, but Vance seemed attached to the teen's shoulders. It was now his perch.
Donovan smirked a bit as he unpacked the lunch. "Does your friend have a name?" He asked, cracking open a can of soda. Vance puffed his cheeks. "Of course he does, Daddy! Everyone has names. You're silly." Despite his retort, the toddler forgot to introduce his friend properly.
