He'd been watching her the entire day from breakfast until lunch time. Sometimes Quint was obvious that he was watching his mother sometimes not so much. Most of the time he just hung around her with the obvious air of wanting to talk to her about something but obviously not ready to spill it just yet. Quint tried to keep out of her way and also helped a little with Tek in a hands off sort of manner. Kay was gone for the moment so it was just them and apparently Switch wasn't going to the store any time soon today.
Quint shifted uncomfortably after he had eaten the lunch he had gotten Switch to prepare for him. For whatever reason he'd been asking her non-stop to make him these meals, probably because it kept her busy and got her mind off of his currently errant Father, at least for a short time. It also made Quint feel somehow less guilty.
The teen helped his Mother put Tek to bed for a nap and suddenly he reached out to take her hand when they stepped out of the baby's room, "I need to talk to you."
Tek didn't need to hear or see Switch upset yet more or so Quint reasoned. He wasn't sure how he was going to tell her all this but he was certain that his 'little' brother didn't need to see the result whatever it may be.

Quint was...really starting to make her uncomfortable.
The newly grown Teen kept following her around which was odd on it's own, but it was quite obvious that he had something to say to her, he just seemed to not know or want to actually say it. Despite his not having been in the house for too long, Switch was well enough aware that it was for the best to let Quint open up to her first, rather than to pry. Not only that, but she really didn't want to have to answer questions over Kale's disappearance...really, what else was there that Quint of all people would want to talk to her about? This was the first time Kale had vanished since the day Quint came to the home. Deep down she was hoping that he would give up and just go away.
However, she had to admit it was a nice distraction; it forced her to stop thinking about Kale and start thinking about how creepy her tall son could be, or what she would make for him, or how to make what he asked her to. The awkward help with Tek was nice, too.
Switch gasped a bit and looked down at her hand, her green gaze shooting up to look at Quint. Oh...so...he wasn't going to give up and go away? Damnit. Well, she'd been so lucky so far...she should have seen this coming. "Okay, Quint." She said softly, lightly squeezing his hand and turning her torso towards the door to Tek's room, using her free hand to close it. Then, she moved towards the living room, letting Quint decide where he wanted to sit or stand.
"I'm all ears." She said metaphorically, trying to prepare herself to answer the questions he would obviously have.

He let her lead him to the living room and once there he decided to stand but he released her hand and waved for her to sit quietly. Quint was growing visibly more nervous as the whole thing went on but he wasn't going to let her have all of this information without being seated somewhere safe so she doesn't get a concussion or something.
...That'd be real awkward to explain to Dad when he got back.
Quint fidgeted a bit restlessly until she finally sat down, his hands went to his hips as he stared at her quietly, "...I know Dad leaves sometimes. He told me himself so I wouldn't worry. When he left I...followed him for a bit even though he told me not to."
So far? This was the truth.

When it became obvious that Quint wasn't going to sit down but was instead getting considerably more nervous, Switch took it upon herself to set an example. She sat down on the couch, making herself comfortable and hoped that he would follow suit. Her head tilted when he shifted his position a bit, and just when she thought he was considering going to sit down...he spoke instead.
A just stared at him, letting the information process. He...he followed...Kale? Her heart skipped a beat and her stomach clenched, moving to sit on the edge of the couch, trying her best to not outright grip the cushions.
"Y-You...followed...him...?" She stuttered out, swallowing hard before moving to put her hands on her lap instead, folding them as nonchalantly as possible...and tried not to sound too eager to hear what was next. "...And...what happened?" Where did he go? Was he okay? What made him leave? Why didn't Quint bring him back? What was going on?

His heart gave a sickening thud at her anxiousness to get more news out of him about Kale. It wasn't exactly that it was bad news and in a way Quint had helped his Guardian out of a rather dire situation -- though at a cost it would seem. He eventually came to sit near her quietly so he could properly look her in the eyes.
People that lied didn't look the other in the eyes right? So he would lie while gazing straight at her so it wouldn't be so obvious about it.
"I...Lost track of him. He slipped into a huge crowd and he was gone...He..He seemed okay, Mom. I...I got the feeling that he wouldn't be gone for very long this time," He tried to smile sincerely but with his teeth it just looked devious and strange so he stopped smiling and just looked at her earnestly.

Switch stared at him, her gaze never leaving his even as he went to sit down nearby. With her attention caught by news of Kale, she never noticed the mild hesitations he may have had. All she knew, was that he was looking right at her, and that he was probably going to give her an answer, or at least a clue about her Mate's occasional disappearance. Quint had never given her a reason to distrust him before, in fact she found him to be quiet honest, even bluntly. He would never lie to her, or hide important things from her.
Switch bit the inside of her cheek. The news wasn't...quite news. It didn't answer the questions she had but didn't pose, but on the other hand...it gave her more than what she hoped for. She had looked away when he had attempted to smile, but not because she didn't want to see it; no, the door was behind him, and that had her attention right now. Kale was okay. He was okay...and Quint felt he was going to come home earlier than normal. That was...that was amazing.
She breathed out the breath she didn't even know she was holding, feeling relief flood through her. Her gaze fluttered upwards to look at the ceiling, trying really hard not to cry. "Oh, Quinn..." Switch said quietly, very slowly shifting closer to him. "That's...that's perfect, thank you for following him." Her voice shook but she looked rather happy, and without an invitation, and putting every ounce of her faith into his self restraint, she lifted her arms and wrapped them around him. She hugged him softly at first, but wasn't going to let go until he made her. "Thank you...Thank you so much..."

He'd built a lot of self-restraint just by hanging around Kay and then of course the other people he'd met. He'd also tested his restraint in the oddest way possible thus when she suddenly hugged him he didn't even tense up. Quint hugged her back quietly and even let her cling on to him. In truth he enjoyed the contact from Switch because he cared for her. She was his mother how could he not care for her but that didn't make the contact any less awkward when he lightly patted her back.
Quint didn't mean or want for her to cry and was really quite relieved when she didn't even shed a tear. He wasn't sure what he'd do if she had cried. The thought that came to him next would most certainly spell his doom, but really it couldn't be the worst task ever. The child was sleeping and would probably remain that way for a while. Thus Quint pulled back a bit out of the hug.
"Welcome. Um, if you want to go out for a bit and grab a walk and some thinking time or whatever -- I'll keep an eye on Tek here until you get back," he offered a bit awkwardly. After all, the brat was asleep. No possible way the infant could wake up ever. Nope.

Switch was too busy being relieved to be surprised that he had hugged her in return, and she gave him a little bit of a squeeze. As he made his offer she leaned back from him, releasing him from the hug but wiping at her eyes with the heel of her palm, her sweater catching the very few tears that luckily did not fall.
"Would you? T-That would be great." She sniffed once, moving to get to her feet. Despite the good news, the house suddenly seemed so small and confined. She didn't realize until Quint suggested it, but she really did need to get out of here to clear her head. So many weeks of worrying, and she had something to cling to.
"I'll be back in a few minutes. He should still sleep for a little longer" Switch assured him, turning back to his sitting form to give him another hug. "Thank you, Quint. You're wonderful." After kissing the top of his head, she released him and made a beeline to the front door, slipping on her shoes and leaving.
Almost immediately after the door closed, there came a muffled cry from behind the closed door of Tek's room. He was apparently awake, and clearly very unhappy to hear the door close without his permission.

He blushed when she praised him and rubbed the back of his neck while she kissed the top of his head. Quint wasn't used to such things because normally he kept people at bay. Slowly but surely, however, he had let certain people closer at least those he considered friends and family. He uttered a small mumbled "No problem," and watched as she retreated out the door and for a brief moment there was silence and then the cry.
Quint's eyes widened as he froze still as if the cry was a part of his imagination. No it probably wasn't. He would need to check on the brat but he didn't know what he would do. He should have asked more questions! What if he needed to change the diapers?
" Quint opened the door a bit and peeked in, "What do you want?"
He wasn't expecting a reply, really...He probably would crap himself if the babe suddenly started telling him exactly what he wanted from the teenager.

Switch was long gone by the time Quint opened the door. When she walked, she walked FAST. Sadly, that meant that Quint was more than stuck with the now very fussy baby. How DARE they ignore him! Did they leave him? They better ******** not have! The longer Quint stayed away, the louder he fussed until, thankfully, he heard the door open. That on it's own was a miracle, seeing as by that point? He was wailing pretty loudly. Either way, the door creaking got him to quiet down, his crocodile tears still in the corners of his eyes.
Oh, it wasn't Switch that answered? It was weird to have Quint check up on him, he barely saw Quint. Well, either way, Quint needed to come and get him. Now. He even tried to help, kind of! That stupid baby body of his was slowly getting more mobile, and he did his best to roll onto his side, luckily managing to not hurt one of his wings, and attempted to stand up by gripping the bars. He stared hard at his apparently older brother through the crib bars...then let out a rather loud wail. Something about the way he did it just screamed 'Get over here and pick me up. now.'

Leaving was one of the things Quint strongly considered. Though he'd have been back eventually with someone more able to take care of Tek, preferably their Mother since Tek seemed to be less than enchanted with Kay or their Father (who was absent). He stared as the thing in the crib moved about 'helpfully' and then let out another one of it's horrid cries which made Quint flinch a bit because despite the earlier epic wailing he was surprised by the suddenness of it.
Grudgingly he moved over and stared down at Tek with a small frown. The kid wanted to pick him up?
What if he did it wrong...?
..Of course he couldn't do it wrong. Just don't pick the damn kid up by the head, feet, tail, or wings and all is good...Right?
"You're looking at the wrong person if you want to be coddled," he informed his little brother as he leaned forward and lifted the infant up somewhat awkwardly and held him out at arms length as he turned and dangled the child above the ground instead of the crib. This may have been a mistake maybe if he...
Grudgingly Quint moved to hold his brother like he had seen Switch holding him which was by upon the hip. The teen tried very hard to be careful of the wings.
"..Now what?"

Tek's ears lowered back into his mop of black hair, his little face crunching up into a bit of a growl. Coddled? He didn't want to be coddled. ******** that, if he was looking for a cuddle, he'd go to the one with the boobs. Meaning their Mother, of course. His growl faded with he was picked up, dangling awkwardly from his Brother's hands for a moment or two, his tail swaying to try and keep balance, his ears still pinned back to his hair.
Don'tdropmedon'tdropmedon---oh, this is better. Tek thought grudgingly, grabbing the fabric of Quint's shirt the moment he could, clinging to him for dear life. Rarely one to backtrack and take back his actions, he was still somewhat reconsidering this whole being with brother thing. Especially once he realized that if Quint were to drop him? There was very little he could do to stop it. Very, very little.
But things seemed better now, and he stared up at the sharkboy with his nearly always narrowed eyes. Yes, what a brilliant question to ask a baby! Even if he did have an adult mind, wasn't like he could talk back! So, instead, he looked over Quint's shoulder and stared pointedly at the door. Leaving would be a good start, probably.

He didn't notice or mind the growl when it came. He had other things on his mind.
Quint held his brother feeling a bit at a loss now. At least now he was slowly but surely getting used to this whole holding his brother thing. He stared down at Tek and then followed the gaze. Should he take wordless hints from an infant? He wasn't too sure but at this point he didn't really give a damn. If it kept the kid quiet he would do anything at least once even if the child in question suggested it!
He wandered out of the room with a bit of a thoughtful hum and wandered first to the kitchen, "Dunno about you but I'm thirsty. You want a drink?"
At least he didn't talk to the infant like it was a moron. Quint probably couldn't do baby talk if his life depended on it.

If Quint had waited any longer, he would have gotten one of those sudden, Tek-approved screeches to get him to move. Luckily that was not the case, and the little Monster stayed quiet, apparently content to cling to his shirt. The kitchen came in his line of vision, and...actually yeah, he did want a drink!
"Guh." He babbled out sternly. Yes, yes he did want one. In fact, he stared very hard at the fridge. Quint was smart, he'd get it...and he'd get it without that stupid babble like that brickhead he apparently had to call his other brother. He was all content to stay still, but then a sudden urge washed over him, and one of his chubby hands started to unclench from Quint's shirt. Eh? What was this? Oh! No. Oh god, no. No! He didn't want to! Not that one! Oh, but he couldn't help it! His hand was already on the move! ********, it happened anyway. Glaring at nothing, Tek chewed on the fingers that suddenly and rather magically ended up in his mouth. Well, this had to look all sorts of stupid.
He hated being a Baby.

As long as the kid didn't spit up on him the young Shark was quite happy to let Tek do whatever he wanted from clinging to his shirt to drooling all over the place. Quint couldn't help but note that babies have a different scent to them that was kind of strange and indescribable for someone like Quint. It wasn't endearing to him but it wasn't exactly the most god awful thing either but either way he didn't comment. He wandered to the fridge and pulled it open and held it open with a leg as he looked in to the fridge.
Oh good nothing seemed rotten or off.
Quint reached in and grabbed a carton of juice and paused a moment and stared down at the juice and over at the milk before his strange eyes moved over to Tek. The kid was pretty damn smart in more ways than one. It got Quint's respect on several levels, "Point to which one you want."
..If you can that'd make my job so much easier.
