Carlisle, Knight of Earth

Carlisle looked around the room in wonder, without irony. He had never seen so many knights in one place, though it did vaguely remind him of other meetings he did not care to remember. He knew that this was an entirely different situation, and they were all gathered here in an effort to solve the mystery of their broken magicks.

He could not help it: he was grinning ear to ear.

Really, as annoying as all this was, Carlisle had smelled the adventure in the air. It turned out, it smelled exactly like a whole bunch of knights all gathered into one space. But that was just the starting point, and he was excited to see how this all shook out. There was no doubt in his mind that a room filled to the brim with the most talented and competent people in the galaxy, and a few still earning their stripes, would be able to get whatever needed to be done completed. And with style.

He turned, spotting Camelot across the room and offering him a wave. The old guy was so busy in his own head, he failed to notice, but Carlisle left him to it. Instead, he turned his focus to those nearest to him. He spotted a Page he had never seen before, in some very fun colors, and scooted a bit closer. Just beyond him, a very excited looking Squire of Pluto was barely containing himself.

"Hey!" He called, waving in greeting as he approached Hierapolis. "Great turn out, huh? I just can't figure out whose birthday it is."

As he grinned at his own joke, he held his hand out.

"Carlisle! Good to meet you. Hey, you, come over here. You okay, buddy?" Carlisle turned his horn-helmeted head (still holding out his hand as politely as he could manage) toward Voyager. "Come on, join us. Have you ever been to a shindig like this before?"

If his excitement was any indication, then the answer was clear enough. And he loved that energy already, thinking it was exactly what they needed at a time like this, when it would be all too easy to get discouraged and overwhelmed. For his own part, he was determined to at least help anyone he could, and be as useful as he could be, even if it turned out to be small in the scheme of things. They were all moving parts to the much larger machine, and all that.

Or was he misremembering another metaphor Camelot had used in his many, many lectures?

Palatine, Knight of Venus

Palatine came to stand next to Sessrumnir.

“You know, this is the first time I’ve seen you without your other half since…”

She trailed off. The answer, if she spent even the briefest time thinking about it, was that she hadn’t really seen Sessrumnir without Alastor since Empyrean died. Since neither of them particularly liked to think of that period of time, Palatine winced and let the thought hang there awkwardly.

She was here. She didn’t know if she wanted to be. She knew she needed to be, even if the Code itself didn’t mandate it. If s**t was going on, then that s**t had to be resolved. At least no one had gotten hurt (that she knew of). The fact that there were so many of them here was vaguely reassuring, if only because it meant their numbers hadn’t diminished much (if at all; with the number of Moon Knights she could pick out of the crowd, she thought their numbers might even have grown).

Following the direction of Sessrumnir’s gaze to a pair of said knights, Palatine sighed heavily.

“I’m way too ******** old for this,” she muttered.

Transcended knight Venice.

Seung had been at home, curled up on the couch enjoying a movie, when he'd felt the pull and the need to power up. That somehow this would be different from the last time, when things had not worked as they should have, and wondering if he'd have an answer to his missing boss Seung had gotten up from the couch. Nudging Terry and whispering something to him, words spoken into the others ear, he drew him outside despite them both being in pajamas and headed a distance from the house so they could power up. Something wanted them, because he was certain something wanted them both along with other knights, and they needed to answer the call.

He felt old, not like he had when he'd been younger and he was a far more active knight. The thought had hit him seemingly for no reason, he really didn't know where it had come from, as he powered up and eyed the letter which had arrived. "Looks like we're going to the moon. It's a good thing the twins are at your parents for the night." Because he was going to answer the call, he needed to know what had happened.

The arrival to the moon was akward, left him stumbling, but as he righted himself the transcended knight took a moment to glance about before his dark eyes fell onto the code and he eyed it. Something felt...off. Was it always so dull looking?

A glance to his partner and he sighed. "I feel old....just a bit. We've been away for so long that I doubt anyone here we've ever met." He whispered, though he was looking around to see if Havasu was around. And he spotted him - he was here and he was safe. Grasping his husbands arm he pulled him along. "Havasu's here." He whispered, smiling as he kept his dark eyes locked onto the familiar figure of his boss in his knight uniform.

"Hav, I've been worried. I was wondering how I might be able to send food up to you." Not that it was possible, they both knew it, but he would have thought of all manner of ideas. "Everything is good with work, before you even ask, it's all been handled." After a few cups of coffee and a long morning with Terry's help.

Valhalla, Transcended Knight of Jupiter

“Like the moon moon,” Valhalla answered, having caught the last little bit of what Bilskirnir was saying.

He was pleased to see the power his friend had gained, but Valhalla was looking a little worse for wear. Not being able to get to his Wonder for a week or so wasn’t usually that big of a deal. He had other means of releasing his extra energy in a crisis. But having been away from home for much longer and then suddenly finding out once he got back that going to his Wonder wasn’t possible?

He was just glad they were getting answers.

“Long time no see,” he joked, holding out his hand in greeting, before glancing around him to try and see who else was there. He could see his brother across the hall, and nodded to him, and was pretty sure he recognized other faces. Some… it had been years. But he was relieved to see them in good health.

He was relieved to see the Code had enough energy to summon them all.

“You look good. I know you told me, but it’s always different seeing in person,” he nodded to Bilskirnir’s outfit.

Rose, Page of Lysithea

So this was the room they hadn’t been able to access when they’d come to the moon a week ago.

Rose carefully picked her way through the growing crowd, trying to find her friends while also trying to get a better look at the Code. The message had been brief, but she was still excited by the prospect! She hadn’t had the opportunity to speak to the Code (or even so much as see it) and didn’t know what to say. Based on what Atticus and Amarynthos had said about it, Rose wasn’t sure what she’d expected.

Pretty, she thought, eyes alight as she gazed upon it.

Glancing around the room again, Rose first spied Mechelen with Almere. Wearing her usual cheerful smile, Rose made her way over and offered them both a brief wave. She would’ve normally hugged Mechele, but Almere seemed like the quiet type and Rose didn’t want to overwhelm her.

“You guys got a letter too?”

Aragon, Page of Pluto

He still wasn’t sure what to think about everything. Apparently he was a knight and his name was Aragon and his power came from… Pluto? No, his power came from a Wonder that was located on Pluto. As in the dwarf planet.

For an April Fools joke, he had to admit, this was pretty elaborate. The costume was one thing, but making monsters appear? Magic?

“You must be Valhalla,” he greeted as he approached his brother, and the only other Knight he knew. But he also heard the name Valhalla a few dozen times in the past day, and if anyone looked viking enough to be named Valhalla and who also tolerated his brother’s eccentricities, it had to be this guy.

And then, because he knew his identity was supposed to be secret or something like that, he continued with, “Firefighter.” Not to be confused with his bookworm brother or ice skater brother.

“It’s nice to meet you officially. Thank you for keeping an eye on this guy,” he smiled and clapped his hand on Bilskirnir’s shoulder.

Pieria, Knight of Cosmos

Maybe some of the others were confused. Maybe they were worried. Maybe they were annoyed.

Pieria had no idea what was going on. She barely even knew what she was. She had a name, and a… Cosmos. Whatever Cosmos was. She could jump higher and run faster and she was pretty sure there was some seriously weird s**t going on in Destiny City, but she’d avoided as much of it as she could because… well… what was she supposed to do???

But then the message came. Pieria had thought about ignoring it. It seemed urgent, but it had also presented her with a choice. She liked choices. She almost made a different one, because who in their right mind would trust a letter that just magically appeared out of nowhere, but something told her she might get answers, that coming here might help her understand.

She hadn’t been expecting quite so many people.

“What the ********,” she whispered very quietly to herself, staring around the room with wide eyes.

Paradise, Squire of Cosmos

“Well this is exciting!” Paradise smiled as she stood beside Palatine, who stood beside Sessrumnir. “I might not be as young as I once was, but I’ll have you know, I am very good at self defense,” she insisted, which drew out a long suffered sigh from her eldest son.

“You could invite me to places more often, you know. Your husband does. We have lunch together all the time,” she lifted her nose in the air to feign disappointment, but how could she keep up the act when she had her grandbabies there? More or less in the case of Amarynthos.

“Oh, you both are growing up so fast!” she gushed, obviously having to scoop both Ephesus and Amarynthos into a hug. Maybe not scoop, because Amarynthos was already taller than she was (he was so little not so long ago!), but the idea was the same!

Luxor, Knight of Pluto

There had been a very long time where Luxor felt himself stop existing. Or maybe he had just been wishing for it so hard, he almost manifested it. Shut away in his Carnival grounds, he contented himself by living a quiet, isolated civilian life. Or whatever passed for a life, when he did as little as possible to really be conscious of it.

He maintained his Carnival grounds. He never opened them, never rented them out: for all the world knew, they were shut down and derelict. He constructed large walls all the way around his land, to keep any interlopers out. That included the powered variety. He worked mostly on his own, unless he found something that required a real crew. But most repairs he did on his own, and all the upkeep made it a fairly routine and almost easy rotation of duties. He fell into a brainless routine of physical work, and that was what he wanted.

Thinking hurt. Feeling was pointless. He had nothing, and that was all he needed.

Then things got odd. He felt that pull, but ignored it. It was a familiar feeling, in its own way. The call of his Wonder, the whisper of a power he forced to be dormant. There were a few encounters, dotted across the weeks and months, but mostly he succeeded in a kind of powered life sobriety. Somehow, in this last week, he had not only fallen off the wagon, but it had run over him a few times as it refused to let him back on.

Here he was, in a strange place, surrounded by people he did not know, because for some reason that was utterly beyond him he had decided to answer the summons that appeared before him. He had decided to power up at all. Maybe he needed something more, without consciously knowing it. Or maybe it was just a fluke and he just had not been paying enough attention to anything at all to realize the mistake he was mistaking.

Looking at his gloved hand, Luxor of Pluto sighed. He looked around and spotted a Squire close to him that almost might have looked familiar. Maybe in another time, a history that belonged to another man, Luxor had met her. He was not sure, and he spared no more thoughts to it. He drew closer to Pharos, and spotted someone he was sure he had never met before nearby, as well.

"What is happening?" he asked, his voice rough. He did not talk to people very much, these days. His voice was soft, but loud enough to reach another Squire that was standing just near enough to the one he'd chosen to speak to, looking around and taking in things just like they were. He shifted his gaze from Pharos to Spei, frown ever deepening. "What is this place? Is this about our magic?"

He was out of practice, he had not come to one of these kinds of meetings in years. On purpose. Everything he had ever wanted to know was gone, taken from him. And yet, here he was.

He supposed he might as well do something about it.

[Aokigahara, Knight of Saturn]

To say that it had been a difficult week was...to understate the matter quite greatly. Powering up had been a struggle. Aokigahara's weapon felt weak and brittle in his hands, as if it had somehow rusted--although a magic lantern should never rust. His amgic, too, felt sluggish, and overall--he knew he was not well. Unwell enough that he'd been forced to acknowledge that Vanya was right to be concerned, and submit himself to some being fussed over by his partner, as much as he disliked everything about that situation. He was used to being the fusser, not the other way around, but such was.

Even as he forced himself through powering up, he wondered if it was worth it. He couldn't get to his Wonder--couldn't enjoy its silence and calm, and let off the excess energy that filled him up like a jar set out in a raging storm.

But when he did, there was a welcome sign. A letter, an invitation from the Code--to the Moon, to meet it, for answers.

This was not Aokigahara's first time dealing with it, but he suspected this would be far better than that miserable experience with it tainted by Chaos--closer to talking to it after the battle on the hill, if he had to guess, particularly if this was the Moon Code Piece. So he took the note, and let himself be whisked to the Code's chamber on the Moon.

Camelot, Royal Knight of Earth

To say it had been a difficult week was an understatement. In fact, it felt like an outright lie, and that Camelot should actually feel guilty for even trying to convince himself it had been anything short of a nightmare.

Being injured just before all these oddities happened had not helped anything at all. He had all but broken his back, shattering other bones including multiple ribs, following a rooftop battle that ended in a loss on the sidewalk. On top of losing and being injured, he had been forced to face the reality that one of his greatest foes had returned, and was angrier than ever. The missing limb was probably a part of that, but Camelot was not trying to justify anyone's anger after that encounter.

To make matters worse, Carlisle had lost track of Painite, following taking Camelot to the hospital. Apparently, she had rescued him from the fight while he was barely conscious, and had taken him to Carlisle to preserve his civilian identity and not learn anything she did not want to know. He said he left her training with a relatively new Deep Space Senshi, but when he returned he only founds marks of a battle, lingering poisonous smoke, and far too much blood on the floor.

They had not heard from Painite since. The guilt was gnawing at him, even as he focused on the matters at hand. As important to him as she was, the disruptions to the knight's magic, regardless of rank or planet, was disturbing and needed to be sorted out. He had to apply every ounce of his focus here, and worry about everything else, even his own healing, once answers appeared.

If they ever did.

He had answered the summons the moment it appeared, despite his personal feelings about things. He had learned earlier in the week, at least, not to power up only to his third stage: getting to fourth once already powered up was almost impossible. He had been unable to summon the extra energy needed, and though it had also been incredibly difficult just to power up at all, he was glad to find it did not fight him tonight.

Now, he found himself standing in a room filled with other knights. They had all received the same summons, of course, and he looked around thoughtfully. There were many faces he recognized, but seemed to be an equal number he did not. He stood as tall as his back would allow, and forced all thoughts of pain, and all his lingering doubts and worries, to the back of his mind. Easier said than done, but he had long years of practice to at least ease the process.

Distantly, he knew Carlisle would be somewhere in the crowd, though he completely missed the brightly dressed knight actually waving at him from across a short distance. He was too busy thinking about a thousand other things, and scanning the room to smile, nod, or wave at those who looked his way or wanted to greet him. Besides his very best friend, anyway. If he ever realized this mistake, he would apologize profusely for it. There was just only so much he could focus on at one time, especially when his back was already beginning to throb.

He was doing his best.

He was here for a purpose, as they all were. Above all, he was here for everyone in this room, and all those waiting for answers that had been unable to come personally.

(Anyone can come say hi to him!)

Antisana, Squire of Pluto

Excuse the vulgarity, but a <******** week.

Antisana should not be so offended. A week wasn't that long, and he could not travel to his wonder that often. But besides the one mishap with some chaotic oozy plant things, his wonder was supposed to be safe, and he was supposed to be able to go there when he needed to. It felt like a personal attack that he'd been kept from it for any length of time, even if nothing 'disastrous' had happened to him. And then to be landed with a 'Make haste,' like he was a dog that could be summoned whenever.

It was no consolation that every other Knight had experienced the same phenomenon. Did not ease him at all to see how many had been disrupted. There were more knights gathered here on the Moon than he'd even known existed- Of course he'd expected there were a good many in Destiny City, but he'd really only ever seen a handful at a time. Often the same few.

And he had never been here, had never actually seen the Code.

So there was an unsettling swirl of discontentment at the surrounding situation- and also mild intrigue. Maybe it would be stronger if he wasn't so tired. But no amount of exhaustion or displeasure would've made him ignore those summons.

Dunwich, Page of Neptune

Eva had been at campus late tonight. With finals coming up in due time—and with several of the undergrads in her sections of the intro biology survey courses struggling mightily with some of the material—she’d taken the initiative to host some extracurricular study groups for the past couple weeks. She’d keep them going until every last student had finished their exams and final papers, if that’s what it took to help these kids.

(Most of her motivation in doing so was the selfless desire of a teacher to help her students learn, but not all of it. Plenty of the impetus here also came out of Eva knowing that students’ performance in her courses reflected on her as an instructor, which would definitely factor into future considerations for better positions, including those on the tenure track. Having a formal university affiliation would always be a boon to a researcher, which meant teaching, and the best way to stay employed in that regard was to earn tenure. There were several best ways to stay employed, but making sure you produced results, as measured in your students’ final grades in the class, was always a good one.)

Despite keeping herself busy on campus, Eva had tried lately to make more time for her Knightly duties lately. It had felt pretty safe recently, like the Negaverse probably wasn’t looking too hard for d’If anymore, and maybe she was rusty, but that was all the more reason to get out more often, wasn’t it? Patrolling, at least, usually proved pretty easy to do. Power up into Dunwich on the way out of campus for any given evening, stay powered up all the way home, maybe travel down a longer route than necessary just to cover more ground and try to avoid missing things (the extra exercise, Eva felt, couldn’t possibly hurt). Making time to travel to her Wonder often proved more difficult, but she’d been trying.

Until the past week or so. On top of the difficulty she’d found in both powering up and summoning her driftwood heart to hand, Dunwich hadn’t been able to visit her Wonder at all. She knew that it wasn’t too soon for a visit; the last time she’d made it up there had been back in February, so she ought to have been able to go.

About halfway home tonight, something adjacent to an answer appeared before her. She’d been on the roof of some gaming and comics shop when the sparkling scroll had manifested itself, calling for her presence on the moon. Dunwich had willed herself to go there without hesitation. Only when she found herself among so many other Knights did she pause to wonder if Jacob had powered up tonight (or attempted to anyway), if d’If would have seen the same scroll, or if she would need to explain herself when she got home to him. Steadying herself with a few deep, slow breaths, Dunwich looked around the assembled group in search of anybody she recognized—especially if the person in question stood six-foot-six and carried a cane with a carved design of tentacles.

[Sonora, Squire of Ida]

It had been a really, really weird week.

After her fight with Cryptomelane, where she got her fancy upgrade, Sonora had tried to go to her Wonder--hoping that maybe the problem had been her waiting powerup, or something, and that was why she'd felt so weird and everything had been so hard.

But it was still barred to her, somehow. It wasn't fair--she wanted to go back! Wanted to see it and explore! Wanted to bring up some implements and start gardening, so that she could really make it come to life.

But no, that was all being denied her. So when she powered up this time, throguh all the muggy haze, and there was a note about coming to the Moon to meet the Code and figure all this out? Yeah, she jumped on that.

When she arrived, there was a whole rainbow of people--so many Knights, all clearly having experienced the same strangeness. It was...really exciting, to see them all, and to know that they were all going to be working to solve this. At least she wasn't alone.

Niflhel, Knight of Saturn

Niflhel was something of a stranger to the powered side for months, nay years at this point. He had an itch for the past week as something seemed off and he was trying to figure it out. Tonight though something actually pulled him out of the house. After ditching the cat with a stout leave me alone. He found himself following the note the code had sent and he was currently standing the back of the room in the darkest corner he could find.

The scowl on his face was from irritation and the fact he hoped this wasn't some new crazy thing that could cause harm to someone. He'd been through a lot and he'd been trying to live the quite life and forget that things existed outside of his civilian life (not that a talking cat was a normal thing for civilians but it was for him). He had been really deep into the psyche and diving into just working his issues out to better himself as a person perhaps toying with going for a masters in psychology wasn't the best plan with the way this world worked.

[Anyone is free to interact with the grumpy Saturn knight]

Odainsaker, Squire of Cosmos

Had Odain been to the moon before? She'd found herself wondering when the code had summoned her. The past week had been taxing, things not working correctly when she tried to power up. It was just weird. Odainsaker sighed and stretched a bit looking at the groups around her milling and talking and then looking towards the code, who as more and more arrived seemed to get some life back to it. She was curious and interested in what was going on. It seemed important that they were all here though.

Odainsaker was looking around to see who all was present and if she recognized anyone. Though she didn't think she did.
