Mount Pick: Camping With Savage

Ceylinae was doing something that she didn't often do, which was relaxing a bit. It was something that she'd chosen for herself so much as something that was rather necessary. She'd gone through so much to capture herself a baby limbara but it turned out to be more of a curse then a blessing at the moment. Who knew that babies were so much work? One had to take care of them, feed them, comfort them, and otherwise tend to various needs that they had... and Savage was just a baby beast! Imagine all of the extra work that would go along with if it was a baby Elaria that she was raising instead. It was enough to make Ceylinae swear off children in the future.

She'd leave that to her other sisters while she kept to protecting the village as that was what she was best at. Training for herself, training for Savage, and then the two of them would become the strongest of all the Guardians of her sisters and cousins. There was no reason for her to have a child of her own, she felt no draw to do so, and felt no reason to do so. Elzira would bloom many lotuses in the future that would be there to fill in their village and allow their people to prosper. There was no reason for Ceylinae to take on such a responsibility when she knew she wasn't ready for such a thing. Nor did she ever think she would find herself with the desire either. Best that she learned now though, while the choice was still in her hands, as opposed to the future when she'd already asked for a lotus or something.

Not that she would ever allow any of her sisters or cousins know that she thought in that way. It might make her appear weaker then she wanted to be seen as if others knew of this decision. Best that she kept it close to her chest and focused on her training and that of her future mount. If she did that then nobody would really even have reason to think about what it was that was going on inside of Ceylinae's head and heart. Those sorts of overly soft thoughts weren't what would make her excel or make her more worthy of being one of the 'First Three' after all. She needed to focus on what was currently the most important thing, which was making sure that Savage lived up to the potential of his species. It was a bit of a shame that he turned out to be male of all things but if nothing else at least it seemed as though the male limbara were a lot bigger then the females. That would at least give him something to help make up for his gender.

Turning to look over at the little limbara whelp she realized that the beast wasn't where he'd been sleeping up a moment ago. Lunging to her feet, all of her antennae giving a violent spasm she set to looking around for the little beast. As she did so she grumbled to herself, "I really need to get him a bell." At least then she would know when he was moving around... though maybe a harness and leash would be good while he was smaller too. She didn't want him getting eaten by something after all... that would just be a giant waste of a good beast. Not to mention that she'd then have to go out and catch a new one to make up for the one that she'd lost which was not an easy task in the least.

"Hey! Savage! Get back here!" She called out before hurrying forward, searching the area. As she searched about Ceylinae found herself worrying a bit. What if she'd made a mistake in getting a limbara that was so little? It seemed like the best idea because a young limbara would be easier to train but... but they were also the worst when it came to them running off like Savage had. Again.

It took her a bit of time but soon enough she found Savage chasing after some small insects, eating those that he was able to snap his jaws closed around. Giving a bit of a sigh Ceylinae muttered, "You know that's not the most healthy food source, Savage." Though she supposed that it wasn't as though bugs weren't a food source, they just weren't the best one if you asked her.

Savage turned to look over at Ceylinae while crunching down on some random bug, his eyes on her as he chewed. It seemed that he wasn't about to give up what he'd caught even if it wasn't the best for him. It seemed to be mostly crunchy shell from the sounds of it. Giving a little sigh Ceylinae knelt down and scooped him up, "Come on, Savage. Let's go back to our camp." They had been staying together outside of town for a while now. She was determined to get his training well underway before she brought him back with her. She didn't want him to appear as a wild beast that refused to listen to him... that would just make both of them look bad. No, the two of them had to get their training well underway so that they would be sure to look good!

After returning to camp Ceylinae sat down and placed Savage back on his feet, "Here, how about I get you something good to eat." She said before getting out some dried meat from her pack. The moment she produced it his eyes were completely on her, something that made her chuckle a bit, "That's better. You know if you behave and just stick close to me then I will feed you good food as opposed to just bugs." As she spoke she held the piece of food out, allowing him to take it from her. As he chewed she patted him on the back. It was going to take him some time before he became a worthy mount but at least he was cute... not that she'd say as much out loud. If she praised him too much he'd end up weak. That or she would look weak. Either way they had to train, not fool around, so that together they could become a grand Guardian team.

She offered the little beast another piece of meat and said, "I think we should see about getting you a harness and a bell, Savage. After that you're training will continue. Sound good?" A tiny jaunt into town to do a bit of training should be alright, right? They just had to be careful that was all. She didn't want to run into Naqenni, not yet at least. Not when Savage was just an unimpressive little baby. Once he was a bit bigger and more intimidating then she'd be only too happy to show him off. Soon... but not yet.

After a few more pieces of meat were consumed by the rather voracious little Savage she was pushing to her feet. Leaning over she scooped him up, holding him in one arm, put her bow over the other, and headed for town to run their errand.

Quiet Contemplation

Ceylinae was sitting in the top of a tree that was within the village, her aqua eyes scanning over everything that was within her sight. It was a place that felt painfully small these days because of the Dretch that forced her to stick close but despite that it was still a place that she wanted to protect with everything that she had. She loved the village, loved those within, and wanted to keep them all safe from any threat that might come there way. There were the various Earthling tribes, their traitorous cousins from across the sea, there were the various dangerous beasts that lived on Yael, and of last but not least there were the Dretch themselves.

The question always came down to exactly how she was going to go about protecting everyone from the dangers that the world had laid out before them. It felt as though they were out numbered and out gunned, meaning that they had to be able fight harder and longer then anyone else out there. There were only so many of the Elaria after all. They were a young tribe, not all of their number even had weapons to defend themselves with, meaning they had to be careful and use strategy when it came to their future battles. At least until their numbers became more then what they were. As it stood they wouldn't be able to rely on back up, something that any other tribe could since they were more well established.

She didn't think poorly of her people or anything but she knew that she had to consider everything that there was to think about. It was why she worried about those among her sisters and cousins that wanted to pick fights with the other tribes. She had no interest in being allied with them but she felt that they should do something other then start fights, at least for now. They should focus on Yael, on making their village bigger, more well defended, and take more land for themselves, then she felt that they would be able to really decide what they wanted to do where the Earthlings were involved. If you asked Ceylinae she felt that they should focus on Yael first and taking it for themselves. From all she'd gathered the glowy eyed weirdos that lived here were cowardly as a whole, so it wouldn't take much to toss them out.

It wasn't killing either that she desired. If anything she felt that they should take a page out of their old cousins' book and banish them. If they attacked, if they killed, then there was a chance other Earthlings would feel the need to retaliate and attack back. They had to be cautious, take each step forward with care, and make sure that they didn't bring the wrath of the entirety of the outside down on their heads. Ceylinae would fight to death to protect her people but she could also hope that it didn't come down to that.

Sighing a bit she allowed herself to start down the tree that she was perching in, heading toward the ground where Savage was staked out so he wouldn't wander off. Before the Elaria and their cousins could decide what they wanted to do going out they had to deal with the Dretch, huh? If those family stealing monsters weren't taken care of then there would be no moving forward she thought to herself, her antennae twitching in distaste. The very thought of those... things, it made her skin crawl. Their one attack made it feel as though everyone in the village were being held hostage by the mere threat of another attack. It was something that made her nose wrinkle before she lifted a hand, watching it, trying to clear her thoughts.

For now she couldn't allow herself to think about the things beyond her control. Surely the Mystic and the Elders would figure out a way to deal with the Dretch. As a warrior it was up to her to wait for that time and then she'd be ready. Until that time she just had to train herself, train Savage, and be ready for whatever the future might hold. She just had to continue on the path that she'd laid out for herself, consider new and interesting ways to train, things that could be done within the confines of the village. The best things she'd found was climbing trees but she felt that there was other things she could do as well. Maybe she should start lifting bigger things, it would help her build muscles, which in turn would allow her to better and more smoothly draw back the string of her bow. More running around the village, more sit ups, push ups, pull ups, and that was just the training that she would do for herself.

Her aqua eyes went to where Savage was, presently chewing on a stick that he'd found, and she squatted down in front of him, "I think we need to start thinking harder on what we should do when it comes to your training too, Savage. I'm not going to let you get dragged down by your gender. Just because you're a boy I feel that there is more that you can do then growl, hiss, and throw your weight around... though that might be useful when confronting some threats." It might help to chase off weaker Earthling so she shouldn't write it off completely, but there had to be more that he could do as well. It would take a bit of thought on her part but soon enough she felt that she'd have the both of them working out and getting stronger!

A Very Short Walk

Ceylinae gave a bit of a sighing sound as she held on to the end of the leash that she had attached to Savage. She'd decided that the best way to start out his training each day would be to take him along on her usual walks that took her around the village. Well, to be fair she much preferred to run the entire way but Savage was still little so she was ready to compromise and just do a walk instead. It would help to build up his stamina and make it so that when he was a mount that he could run for long periods of time without rest. That was the plan at least but that wasn't really what she'd got, was it? Instead the two of them had made it about a quarter of the way around the village before Savage just seemed to give up the fight.

"Really, Savage? You can't just lay there and be lazy. You need to train." She told the little limbara whelp though the most she got as a reply was him glancing at her where he was laying in what she'd assume was his attempt to be cute. It caused her to give a bit of a sigh, "No. That isn't going to win me over, Savage." Alright, maybe it did just a little bit. He was kind of cute, wasn't he? Likely the cutest thing in her opinion. Hers was the cutest of all limbara because he was hers after all. Not that cute would make him more powerful or able to take on more enemies at once or anything. She should be encouraging him to be intimidating or fierce, not cute, but at the moment she couldn't help but to give the slightest of smiles as she starred down at him.

She then gave a shake of her head, "You're not allowed to try to mesmerize me, Savage. We need to continue our walk. We haven't even made it around the village once even at the slowest pace possible in the history of my running around the village. I was faster then this as a youngling." Complaints that fell on deaf ears as he gave a great yawn and turned his head to one side so he could bite at some waving blades of grass that caught his attention.

Ceylinae took a deep breath, held it, and then let it out slowly as she watched him continue his assault against the grass. At least from the display she was able to confirm that he was in fact a fierce little thing... though at his present size he didn't exactly look as much. He was just plucking grass after all, grass that he subsequently ended up spitting out since it wasn't as though he wanted to actually eat the stuff. As from as she'd seen he was a meat eater through and through, he surely had no interest in eating something as simple as grass. Now biting on it and pulling it out of the ground, that at least seemed to be something that interested him. Enough so that he wasn't paying attention to much more.

Giving a little tug on his leash she said, "Come on, Savage. You've had enough rest." A comment that got only a little hiss from the beast that didn't want to get up. After a moment she found herself just standing there, head cocked to one side, just... starring. It wasn't often that she got completely ignored like this. She was one of the 'First Three' after all so she was used to some amount of respect being given to her. Something that was completely unimportant to a little beast like Savage that didn't understand such things. After a long, drawn out moment Ceylinae squatted down and scooped up the little beast in one arm, "I guess I will carry you back then."

The look on the beast's face seemed to be one of supreme satisfaction, something that had her sighing, "You really are a spoiled little thing, aren't you? You know that isn't going to make a warrior out of you, Savage. You need to be strong, need to fight, you can't just have someone carry you the entire way through life." As though the beast actually understood her words she thought to herself, knowing that she liked looked like a crazy person talking to him in such a way. Maybe she should stop and just concentrate on getting back home? She could put Savage in his pen and return to training on her own... though what if that was his plan all along?

No matter, she would just have to continue trying to take him out each day in hopes that he would finally make some head way when it came to him actually making it around the village all in one go. The walk back to where she lived was a tad bit embarrassing if you asked her, certain that people were starring at her as she walked along with Savage tucked under her arm. It didn't help that he was hissing and kicking his feet all the while, proving that he had plenty of energy remaining that he just didn't want to use on walking around the village. Instead he just wanted to be carried and wanted to be allowed to do... well, whatever he wanted to do.

"We are going to be trying again tomorrow so don't think that you're going to get out of your training so easily, Savage." She muttered to him, her antennae twitching. Ceylinae felt nothing but relief when she saw her place come into view, hurrying forward toward the small building, and set Savage down in the pen she'd built out front, "Here you go, little brat."

The moment she removed the harness and leash from him he went racing along, chasing after the various bugs in his pen, eating a couple of them, proving the was fine energy wise. She just had to think of a way to encourage him to train. Maybe something that involved treats? He was a what would be considered a child after all so maybe it had to be done? She'd think about it, ask a few others that had mounts, and go from there starting tomorrow. For now she'd let him do his own thing and see to her own training. Just because Savage was slacking off didn't mean that she could afford to do such a thing.

Growth Solo: An Unexpected Task

(( Ceylinae is called out to a job and she goes fully armed, expecting to find herself hunting or fighting. Instead she found herself dealing with something far outside of her comfort zone. It causes her a bit of a panic but she does her best to get through the experience and finds herself (possibly) reconsidering her (distant) future. She's not fully convinced but her heart was swayed. ))

Ceylinae found herself called in by one of those in charge, with a note that said they had a mission for her. It was something that was for her and her alone then surely it must be important, right? Maybe they'd found a lead on the Dretch and needed warriors? Maybe they had found a way to deal with some threat that was being leveled against the village? There were so many things that she could be doing and the idea that she was being called in special really was exciting. She wanted to get to work, wanted to help out, and wanted to prove herself to the Matron and the other elders, and most importantly she wanted to show the Mystic that the trust placed with her was something she was worthy of.

Before leaving home she'd made sure that Savage was fed and securely in his pen, unable to escape, and then from there was running full out, bow and quiver on hand. No matter what it was that they needed her for she was ready for it. She'd fight and defend her tribe! She was ready for anything!

A thought that was almost instantly quashed as she stepped inside the hut she'd been called to and found a couple of her cousins waiting there, weapons in their backs, with one of the higher ups. Was she to go with them? Were they going out hunting? Were they going to take on some dangerous beasts or maybe a Dretch? As she stepped inside all eyes turned to her and the three of the seemed to brighten, with one of the Alkidike clapping her hands together, looking quite relieved, "Oh, wonderful! You've come. I was worried that you might not." A comment that surprised Ceylinae a little bit.

"Of course, I was called and I answered. There is no reason for me to refuse." She said, giving a nod, her many antennae giving a little twitch.

"I knew you would." The other woman said, someone that Ceylinae knew well, she was the woman that helped her to make her second bow, though the first one that actually worked, some time ago. The woman motioned for her to step closer before leading her across the room by the hand, motioning to a basket that contained... a sleeping infant. The woman turned back to her and said, "I am quite relieved knowing that someone I trust will be watching over our daughter. Her name is Nennia."

Ceylinae leaned over, starring at the little baby, before she felt a shiver go through her entire person. She was... she was supposed to be watching a baby? What was going on? She wasn't going out hunting? Wasn't going out fighting? She was watching a baby? On the outside she didn't show any change in expression but on the inside she was panicking from head to toe, her inner monologue screaming about how she was as far from prepared for this sort of thing as possible. How was she was supposed to take care of a baby? The only thing that she'd ever dealt with that was young was Savage... and he was a limbara whelp. They were nothing like a baby Elaria.

Lifting her aqua gaze she looked at the trio of women that stood before her and she gave a slow nod of her head, "I... yeah, alright. I thought that I was being called for something different but if this is what you need." She couldn't refuse. She was called here for a job and she had to do it, even if she was definitely in over her head.

A moment later the trio of woman headed out of the hut, offering up many things as they went. She watched them go before turning slowly, giving the baby another glance... then plopped down next to her. She'd never really thought about dealing with children before, having written off having one of her own in loo of her training. She'd wanted to become a warrior that defended the village, not a mother, so she found herself instantly worrying that such skills weren't within her grasp. What if she wasn't able to do this? She felt a moment of instant panic but she forced it down, reminding herself that she wasn't alone. She was in the middle of a village after all. She didn't have to do this alone if she found herself confused or uncertain of what she should do next.

Taking in another breath she held it, counted backwards from ten, and let it out slowly, "Alright, I can do this." She murmured to herself, leaning over slightly to peek at the one named Nennia. It seemed the moment she leaned over her the baby's eyes opened, something that caused Ceylinae's body to go stock still, as though the baby's eyesight was based on movement. She starred a moment, the two of them seeming to lock gazes, before he baby set to wiggling her her basket, hands reaching out for Ceylinae, making grasping motions.

"Ahh... do you want to get picked up?" She hadn't even been properly instructed how someone was supposed to pick up a baby. Did they assume that she already knew? Was it because she was so well trained in other areas? Was it because she tended to gather all possible information for the various subjects that she was interested in? They must not know that none of her knowledge applied here. After taking in a breath she reached out slowly, carefully, and picked the baby up, holding Nennia to her chest. After a moment of interest struggle she relaxed, realizing that she must have done it right because the baby seemed happy enough... but for how long?

Didn't they want things like food? Toys? Getting cleaned up after? Somewhat similar to Savage and at the same time vastly different. She couldn't really apply any of that training to a baby, just the very basic theories like what young things needed. Should she find help? She could go to someone she knew who'd had kids themselves, right? She could also go to someone that she trusted like Naqenni, or just to another elder. She could, but at present she didn't. She wanted to help, had taken on the job, and she felt that she should do this on her own.

"Alright, so what should we do first?" She asked as she got up to her feet in a slow, careful movement, not wanting to mess this up. As she walked along, baby in her arms, she said, "If I knew what I was doing on this job I might have asked for a bit of training before hand." That would have meant knowing ahead of time though and it wasn't that long ago that she was called for. She doubted that there was any way to really gather all the information that she needed on watching a child in the walk over.

Ceylinae found herself pacing around the front room of the house she was in, eyes on the baby, "I wonder where your mothers are going. Did they head out to do some hunting? Are they battling something? Are they just going on a walk?" It was hard to say. Since they were parents they might just be getting some alone time since a baby was quite a responsibility from what she gathered. Getting a tiny break might be something they would want. What about the weapons though? A question easily answered since Ceylinae didn't go anywhere without her bow ever since she got it so maybe it was just that?

Ceylinae was jolted out of her thoughts as the baby caught hold of one of her lower antennae and gave it a tug, "Ah! Ow... ow... hey now. That hurts a bit, Nennia." She said, wanting to stop the little one from yanking on the delicate tendril but couldn't do so with her arms full. As such after a moment she gave up, allowing Nennia to have her way. As she did so she found herself wondering if maybe she was too much of a push over. She'd let Savage have his way the other day as well. It might just be normal, to find it impossible to say no to small beings. They were too cute and little, it made them quite powerful.

After a bit of pacing around, something that seemed to keep Nennia in a good mood, she found a piece of paper on the counter with her name on it. Picking it up she read it over, then sighed as relief filled her. This was... wonderful! Notes on taking care of Nennia. It wasn't anything in detail but it was helpful. It told her what she needed to do, what Nennia ate, her favorite toys and where to find them, as well as where extra clothing was located in case she made a mess. This would help immensely, allowing her to better take care of the little one. Given it was sitting out in the open she was likely meant to find it earlier, but they couldn't have predicted that Nennia would wake up not long after they left the house.

Just as she finished reading the note Nennia set to squirm a bit, making a bit of a whimpering sound, and she found herself thinking that Elzira had blessed her with luck this day. It seemed that Nennia wanted something, food perhaps, and now she knew where to find it.

The rest of Ceylinae's afternoon was filled with her taking care for Nennia. She'd had to only feed her twice, but she had to change her several times which was an adventure in and of itself. The baby had a favored toy, a stuffed one that looked like a keldari that she enjoyed swinging around, and one that Ceylinae got hit with a number of times during the girl's flailing. At least once the snake plushie had been handed over she no longer had to worry about her antennae being tugged on. That had been a bonus.

The girl was awake most of the time, sometimes kicking and flailing, as though struggling to keep herself awake. Nennia didn't seem to want to sleep through anything that was happening around her, something that Ceylinae could respect.

It was getting to be late afternoon when the girl's parents returned, stocked up on meat from what their hunt, and Ceylinae found herself paid for her work. She got some of the meat that the women had retrieved, as well as some of the bones to give to Savage. The meat itself was a wonderful form of payment as it gave herself something to cook up or turn into jerky or smoke it. There were a lot of things she could do with the meat and it was welcome, if surprising. She hadn't really been expecting anything after all, having just seen the work as her duty.

After leaving the house she felt a tad bit sad about leaving but it was a thought that she shook off. No, no! She wasn't going to let one little run in with a baby change her mind... even if said baby had been cute. Shaking her head again she headed for home, knowing that Savage was waiting for her. He was baby enough for her right now and that was that. Maybe someday in the far, far future she might reconsider... once many other things had been taken care of, up to and including the Dretch. Only then might she reconsider her plans. For now she was fine as she was.
