A Tournament?

Incanthis sat in the courtyard, starring down at the pamphlet in his hand, looking it over, then gave a little sigh, "It seems as though there is going to be a tournament, Junior. A bunch of people from all over the world, battling it out for glory and prizes. I wonder who all is going to be entering the contest." He definitely wouldn't be, his powers were meant for healing, but he still wondered who else might end up going. What about the twins? Would Abie or Aqio go to the tournament? There was a part of him that wanted to go, because there was a chance although small that his brothers might be there to. He... wanted to see them, even if it was just from a distance or just to watch them from a distance while they fought in the tournament. It was tempting, but he was just too much of a coward for such things. What if he went out and got himself capture by Master Muata? He knew that he was still out there somewhere after all.

Giving a slight shift he turned to glance toward the little snaptrotter whelp who was chasing around around after some butterflies. It was something that had him smiling, "Are you trying to get me more butterfly wings, Junior? That is sweet of you." After the morning where Incanthis and Abie had hung out in the courtyard with the whelps, which was the first time Junior brought him a butterfly, he'd gotten quite a few of them as presents. It seemed that each day he was given at least one of the insects, something that he ended up sharing with Junior. He kept the pretty wings for himself, tucking them away safely into a book, while the main body of the bug was given over to Junior to eat.

Turning his attention back to the pamphlet he looked it over, giving a soft sigh as he ran a finger over it, "I can't go... I mean... I want to go, to see if my brothers are there but... I can't... I'm too scared." He hated that weak part of himself. He knew full well that his father would be disgusted with him if he saw him in this condition. He likely knock him senseless for being such a weakling or worse, disown him. He would deserve it as well. Unless he was able to shed the fear that clung to him like a cloak he wouldn't be able to help anyone in the manner that he wanted to. He had to try to be stronger, to hone his powers, if he ever wanted to be able to help his brothers or his friends. He just wanted to be... more. How to do that though? How could he rid himself of the fear when it was something that was so ingrained within him?

Drawing in a deep breath into his lungs Incanthis allowed his eyes to close for a moment, concentrating on the beating of his heart. He had to focus on the fear, to figure out its root, and to go from there. It didn't really take a genius though to figure it out, to know that the very root of his fear all came back to his lack of power and control. It was something that Incanthis felt that he'd never had. First his father, then his various masters, they had forced Incanthis into a position where he wasn't able to feel as though he had any control in his life. So maybe that was what he needed? He need to take control and move himself because he wanted to, not just because he was following someone else. Presently he was planning on doing that all over again, that he just meant to follow Abie.... but would he really be able to help Abie if all he did was follow him?

He needed to do more, to be more! Pushing himself up to his feet it seemed the sudden motion surprised Junior, drawing a questioning squeak from the whelp. He turned to look over at him, then gave him a smile, "Ah! Sorry, sorry... I didn't mean to startle you. I was just... determined! Come on, we are going to... to go for a walk!" Something that he hadn't done for some time, not since Junior had escaped so that he could chase after Oban rodents.

Incanthis went to his room, Junior shuffling along after him, before he set to searching through his things, finding a robe with a hood, "This is what I need." He said to Junior as he reached back, catching hold of his long braid, gathering it, around draped it loosely several times over his shoulders like one might do to a scarf, then put on the robe. With the robe on and the hood up he was able to hide himself decently enough. From there he got his pack which contained what coin that he had, before he headed for the door. He paused there, glancing toward Junior, and asked, "Are you wanting to come with me? I think while we are out we can see about getting some nice, brightly colored harnesses and leashes for you and your siblings."

The plan was to use the bright colors so that then whelps wouldn't risk getting lost when the day came that Abie brought Incanthis and the whelps to Jauhar. Junior chirped at him before shuffling along after him, coming to stand at his side, starring up at him. It was cute, the way that the little one wanted so badly to stick to him, likely wanting to protect him. Incanthis wrote out a note, hanging it on his door, before heading out. He didn't want to just vanish after all, instead wanting him to know where he was. Best to leave him a note instead of going straight to him, he wanted to try to do this walk himself after all.

Once he reached the door though he froze in place, starring out the door, his heart thudding hard in his chest, "Ahhh... alright... I can do this." He murmured to himself, his hands clutching tightly to the strap on the pack he wore over his shoulder. He stood there for a long while, gathering his courage, and once he felt that he was ready he headed outside. It was only one step out the door but it was a big one, an important one. He glanced down at Junior, giving the little whelp a smile, "Thank you for coming with me. I want to do this on my own but having you at my side bolsters my courage."

After taking another deep breath he pushed himself forward, heading for the marketplace, with Junior shuffling along at his side. If he was able to finish his errand, if he was able to get the harnesses and leashes on his own he'd feel accomplished. It would show him that he had a real chance at becoming more then just a weakling and a follower.

Growth Solo: Shedding Old Fear

(( Realizing that while he was freed from his Master that he hasn't exactly been acting as though he is really free Incanthis thinks about where is at the moment. Trapped by fear of many things he is unable to move forward or even leave the house that often but it's something that he wants to overcome. He just needs to figure out what the first step should be when it comes to doing so... and he feels that first step has to do greatly with Abie. ))

After his last time hanging out with Abie was something that sort of cemented in his mind that there were many aspects of his life that were entangled by fear. There were a lot of things that he was unable to do up too and including go outside on some days. It was strange too because he wasn't as bad as this when he was ensnared by Muata. It was after he'd gotten his freedom from the man that the fear had started to fill him, fear that he would be taken again, that he'd lose his freedom. It was a fear that filled him and kept him from even being able to leave the place he was staying in... and he had to ask himself as that even freedom? He was too scared to go outside, to scared to let others near him, and at times afraid to sleep because of his nightmares. When he did build up the courage to go outside he wore a cloak and a hood, he avoided those might have known him in the past, up to and including his brothers.

He thought that it would be alright, that he at least had Abie... but then there was the incident where Abie fell onto him, accidentally pinning him down on the ground, and fear kicked in. Being pinned down, even by someone that he cared about, had caused him a moment of panic and it wasn't something that he cared for. Abie was only ever kind to him ever since they had first met to now and yet he'd allowed his fear to overwhelm him even where he was concerned. It wasn't something that he wanted to happen again... if anything he wanted to be overcome the fear, to be able to do whatever he wanted, to enjoy himself to the fullest! He had to be brave for all of that, to shed his fears, all of them, including the one that stifled and entangled him the most... that being the fear of going home.

Incanthis had always been afraid of going home, that if he did that he wouldn't be welcomed back. It was something that he was willing to accept because he knew that he'd done wrong. He'd aided the Obans back in the war, had helped to heal them, which kept them alive... and those men that he saved could very well have harmed those in Jauhar. He aided the enemy, allowed them to do wrong, and that was on his head. It was something that he carried with him and always worried what his family would think of him. He knew full well that his father would have thought very ill of him, likely seeing him as a coward for giving himself up to the Obans and then an even bigger coward for serving them. It wasn't as though the man would have been wrong though because Incanthis was just that. It was hard to be brave though when one was taken hostage by such people at such a young age... and serving those that called themselves his Masters had been an easy roll to find himself falling into. Especially since on occasion he got praise from them, something he'd never gotten from his own father because he'd wanted to be a Healer, not a Warrior.

Giving a bit of a sighing sound Incanthis looked out the window whose sil he was sitting on, looking up at the bit of sky that he could see from the courtyard of where he was staying. He didn't want to look at his life and see only the terrifying things, but it seemed at times as though his thoughts were clouded only with those things. If he were able to shed the fear, if he was able to rise above it, then perhaps he would have a chance at being something more then he was now. More then just a homebody too afraid to leave for long periods of time, one who could chance making friends again, and maybe even one who could face his brothers without fear of what they would say to him. If they wanted to banish him upon their meeting again, so be it, but being able to see them alive and well, that was something he wanted more then anything.

There were many times that Abie spoke of going to Jauhar, a trip that he'd helped him to plan even though there was a part of him that wondered if he would ever really go along with him. There was that part of him that feared the idea of going to Jauhar, of going home, and he kind of felt bad that would always be tagging along with Abie. He didn't want to drag him down he knew in his heart that one day he was going to be an amazing Rider and trainer of beasts. His snaptrotters were all darlings, even if they got into arguments among themselves on occasions. Junior especially was an amazing little beast... though he supposed that he wasn't so little anymore, was he? He was to the point that he could squish both Abie and Incanthis himself at the same time... and he would only get bigger.

Junior was always there for him, just as Abie was, though maybe he should start to confide in Abie as much as he did the little reptile? Would it help to share his thoughts with him? If he got things off his chest instead of allowing them to stew would he start to feel better? Lighter? More free then he was now? Would he maybe he able to accept the feelings that Abie was constantly trying to share with him? The younger man seemed to want to be more then friends with him... and Incanthis always deflected his advances. He always tried to get him to look elsewhere, to get him to notice that someone else would be better for him. Something that Abie just wasn't having, seemingly determined when it came to winning him over. It would be nice to be able to accept such things with open arms and an open mind instead of fretting about it constantly.

"Where to begin..." He murmured to himself, lifting a hand to run it through his bangs, a thoughtful look on his face. As he spoke the words out loud Junior gave a chirping sound, as though understanding exactly what the answer was, before grabbing hold of the sash wrapped around Incanthis's waist. He found himself dragged up to feet, stumbling a couple steps, before he was lead onward. He wondered for a while where it was that they were going, thinking for a moment that maybe Junior just wanted him to sneak him some snacks. Incanthis knew where they were and at times, when Abie was out with the other whelps, he'd get extras for Junior.

Of course as they came to a halt he found himself outside the room where Abie and the other whelps were hanging out at the moment. He had no idea if the snaptrotter actually knew what he needed to do to start to shed the fear that enveloped Incanthis or if it was a coincidence, but it was something that caused him to smile none the less. He supposed that he was right, he did really need to start with him, didn't he? He had to talk to him about... well, a great number of things. To start with even just a greeting and a smile would be good, right? To approach him without fear or worry that he wasn't good enough or the right person that should be around Abie. It would be the first step and the next one would be to take seriously the fact that Abie wanted him to go to Jauhar with him. He could go home, meet with his family, visit his mother's grave, and various other things that he wanted to do but had been putting off... and this would be the first step!

Taking a deep breath Incanthis glanced a Junior, giving the whelp a smile, and then moved to step into the room where the others waited.

On His Own

Incanthis was moving along at a rapid pace, hands clutching at the handle on his pack, as he moved forward. He'd wanted to wait for Abie, to get him as back up, but he'd been taken away by business of his own it seemed. They were doing the last couple things that were needed before they left for Jauhar but Incanthis found himself a bit distracted. He'd only been in the market place because he wanted to pick up some food that would be easily digested for the babies... but he found himself distracted by the whispers of those around him. It seemed as though there were a lot of people that wanted to get their hands on something called 'the ghost'.

It was one of those things that instantly put him on edge since the idea of a ghost was something that was scary to him. What if ghosts were real? What if they attached themselves to the people that went chasing after them? And why would someone want to chase after ghosts?! That was what he'd been wondering at the time of hearing the rumors but it was as he was about to leave that he heard it, what it was that they really meant. It seemed that the 'ghost' that everyone was so up in arms about wasn't an actual spirit, it was instead a beast that had a condition called albinism. Such a beast was a rather rare one, one that likely everyone was going to want to get their hands on. He almost felt bad for the little thing.

Surely it wouldn't have a good time of things if a bunch of people went racing after it, trying to catch it, and then what? Wouldn't they just put it on display? In a manner similar to what the Obans had done with others in the past? People and beasts alike were kept as pets and just shown off... wouldn't it be better if it went to someone that would love it? Care for it? Take care of it as though it were just any other beast instead of treating it like a trophy?

His plan had been to go back to get Abie, to talk to him about it, and to see what he wanted to do... but he'd been away at the time. As such he'd decided that he'd try to do it on his own. It wasn't something that he liked the idea of, doing something so competitive, but it was important. He didn't want to see a tiny little beast getting tormented by a mass of various hunters going after him. Especially when he'd over heard someone talking about wanting to catch the whelp for his hide. Whoever caught the little beast was going to use it for one reason or another be it as a pet or just to make something out of it's precious, rare, white hide. Just thinking about it made Incanthis's shoulder burn where his brand lay... and he hand to lift a hand to clutch at his shoulder for a moment to get that sensation to die down.

There were many that wouldn't understand what he was thinking, nor would they really see the parallels between Incanthis and the 'ghost' that everyone was hunting. It was a little childish perhaps to see parts of himself in the little beast but he couldn't help it. He was worried. It was why he left a note for Abie, letting him know that he had something he needed to do and that he would catch up with him if he wanted to leave for Jauhar straight away. For the time being though Incanthis, along with Junior as back up, was on his way to where the 'ghost' was supposed to be. It was some distance from Sulburi, some distance from Abie, but this was something that he felt that he really needed to do. He struggled when it came to being strong for himself but being strong for someone else, that was a lot easier. It always had been. Ever since he was a prentice and had given himself to the Obans in exchange for those in his family.

It had always just been easier for Incanthis to care more for others then for himself, likely due to having a poor sense of self confidence given the way he was raised. How could Incanthis thing highly of himself when his father had been only too eager to tell Incanthis how much of a disappointment he was because he wasn't willing to take up a sword. He wanted to be a healer and that had made him into a person that Issao had only looked down on. It was something that made Incanthis's heart ache just thinking about it. A train of thought that he pushed aside to the best of his ability. He didn't want to think about that, didn't want to think about his father, especially given that there was no way to show the man he'd gotten as strong as he had. Issao was dead so there was no proving himself now.

Shaking his head again he looked over at Junior and said, "Let's try to go a bit quicker. We need to get to where the 'ghost' is before the rest of the crowd arrives." Here was to hoping they got there first... or at least that having Junior with him would help him to win over the highly sought after whelp before someone else caught it.
