Hero Work and Love
Lixes had been planning on replacing his weapon for some time, finding that the one that he had was no longer what he wanted and needed as a hero. It felt too light in his hands, too small, meaning that he to replace it with something that would be more useful to him. He'd been thinking on designs as well, the sort of design that would be able to take care of various problems in various ways. All he needed to do now was find a blacksmith that had the abilities to make the weapon that he wanted to wield going forward.
He'd needed special permission from his fathers but after explaining his reasoning he found himself able to travel to Neued where a lot of people from various tribes gathered, something that would allow him to find the best blacksmith possible to forge his new weapon. It would be a grand thing that would allow him to fight off more dangerous beasts, bug mages, and villains going forward which meant him being able to help more people. It was the most important thing in his mind because he wanted nothing more then to continue forward as a hero. The better the weapon he had the better the hero he could be or so he felt. He knew that the weapon wasn't what made him a hero it was just what would help him to be a better one, what would help him to serve people better. That was what was the most important to him. It seemed as though as far as hero work went everything but his need for a new weapon was going fairly well. In fact he only downside to his current lifestyle was the occasional touch of envy that he felt when he looked at Drexl and Jerami.
Those two had been together since they were younglings and that was one thing Lixes didn't have. At the same time he wasn't sure if a lover would be considered more helpful or harmful to a hero like himself. He knew that having a significant other meant that a hero had a very significant and glaring weakness, not something that he liked the thought of. He didn't want any villains using that loved one against him nor did he like the idea of someone that loved him suffering because of who and what he was. At the same time he still liked the idea of having someone there when he went home, someone that might even adventure with him from time to time, someone to love that was all his own. He hadn't met that person that was meant for him yet though so maybe he was getting ahead of himself as far as the worry went? What if the one he fell for was also hero material instead of a damsel type? Not something that one heard about often in the stories but still quite possible these days.
He'd seen the love between his fathers, the way that his big Alkidike father was able to give his love and affection to his Earthling father, and through it make the sometimes dangerous man like putty in his hands. He wanted someone that he loved that much, someone that he melted for or that melted for him in such a way. It was an embarrassing thought that had his cheeks burning a bit as he headed down the street. Lixes was well aware that people didn't have the ability to read minds but that didn't mean that he still didn't worry that they might be able to guess what he was thinking about. He shouldn't think about it now, he should focus on the task at hand! He could worry about all of that sweet, fluffy stuff at a later date. Heck, maybe he'd talk to Drexl about it since he was the master of such things somehow. Everyone had their own talents and that seemed to be one that his brother was good at. Kind of interesting since Drexl could be so awkward at times due to his size and personality not meshing completely.
For the time being though his thoughts on love and the the like only seemed to just be swinging back and forth without end which was only succeeding in distracting him from the task at hand. He was never going to get his weapon made if he found his mind running in circles like a radaku chasing its tail. Best that he just didn't fret over a subject that he didn't really get. He didn't know what attracted a person to another, why Jerami picked Drexl when he'd met three people that day between Drexl, Arron, and Lixes himself. Not that he wanted Jerami or anything, it was just one of those curious questions. He wondered if that was a Fated meeting, like Aisha had wanted them to meet even though they would never be able to go to her to plead for a child because they had both followed Earthling paths.
He was doing it again, thinking on things that weren't related to his weapon. Still he found himself really curious about... well, a lot of things at the moment. He wondered if it was because his brother and Jerami seemed to be getting closer by the day. Up to and including there being talks about the two moving in together. One day they likely would and Lixes would move into a place of his own and for the first time he'd find himself alone. He had friends he could invite over he supposed, but that was more of a temporary thing. There was also the option of doing an arrange marriage... but he knew that was for like, rich people or those that were in charge of a village or clan. Given how strange his own family was, how mixed Lixes' blood was... he doubted there was really someone out there that would marry him in that manner. He had a feeling it would have to be a love connection, not a marrying for status thing since 'hero' wasn't exactly the sort of status that had people flocking to it.
Maybe if he were able to help in a significant way with the bug mages then it would though? If he wanted to go about it that route though he was going to have to get strong and to get stronger he would need his weapon! Which meant focusing on that, not on his love life. Or lack there of. He'd worry about his hero status, how good he was at being a hero, and maybe someone would just... fall into his lap.
He was humming to himself as he turned his thoughts over the ideas about his weapon again for what felt like the hundredth time since he'd set out. Telling himself to focus on the one thing first, and that the rest would come with time and when it was time. No reason to rush anything, especially when he wasn't really looking for a lover at the moment. He was a career man so even if he found himself thinking on what it might be like to have his own Jerami, be they a man or a woman, he didn't think it was quite time for that. Besides, if he worried about it too much then he might miss out on something. Better that he just went about his life and let it happen instead.
As he got to the area where the blacksmith was located he was able to finally turn his thoughts off the idea of a lover and toward the hammer that he'd designed in his mind. He glanced around the area, taking it all in. The place was big, it was hot, there was a roaring fire and the banging of tools on metal done by a few different blacksmiths of different sizes, origins, and even genders, and he found himself trying to decide what he wanted to do. Which one of them would be the best at making the hammer he wanted? He had no real inclination one way or the other, he didn't automatically think that one of them would be better then the others. All he wanted was for the best of the best where the hammers were concerned to make his weapon for him.
Taking a breath he started forward, closing the distance between himself and the first of the blacksmiths, and started to chat with them about what he was looking for.

Growth Solo: A Heroes Weapon
(( Lixes heads on his way looking for a blacksmith to make him a new weapon so he can be prepared for the coming battle against the bug mages. He meets a man that is supposed to be the 'best of the best' among the blacksmiths of Neued only to find himself send on a wild goose chase trying to find an item that doesn't exist. After realizing the reason behind the man's actions he decides that instead of picking a fight with him that he'd instead find a different blacksmith. He'd rather have a weapon he can be proud of then wield a weapon made by someone that looks down on those with mixed blood. ))
Among the blacksmiths that were working in Neued there was one among them that was supposed to be the best of the best, a specialist in his field even, when it came to weaponry. Upon finding the right blacksmith he couldn't help but stare and give a bit of a whistle. Well now, this guy was rather impressive wasn't he? A head taller then Lixes was and twice as wide due to muscle. He couldn't help but to stare at him, impressed and maybe a little intimidated. Taking a couple steps in closer he found himself wondering about the man. Who he was, how long he'd been in Neued, how long he'd been a blacksmith, and why he was the one that everyone had pointed him him to when it came to the weapon that he wanted.
Walking over to where the man currently resided, pounding metal into the form that looked like a short sword or maybe a knife. He starred at it for a moment before he stepped a bit closer, "Excuse me! I was wondering if I could get a hammer made!" He said in a chirping voice, hoping to draw the attention of the hulking blacksmith.
The man didn't even pause in what he was doing, though he did turn, seemingly giving Lixes a once over before he turned his attention back to what he was doing. He continued on with his work on the knife, moving to fire the metal again, before finally turning to face Lixes as he waited for it to heat up once more. His green eyes seemed like hard chips of glass as he studied the boy in front of him, trying to figure out exactly who and what he was looking at. After a time he gave a sigh as it all finally registered.
"I'm quite busy, perhaps you can find another of the blacksmiths to help you with your... what did you say? Hammer?" A hammer, huh? He did like to make those but for someone like this? Someone with that dopey look on his face as he asked for such a thing from someone like him? Someone with his skill and years of experience as both a warrior and a smith? Kids these days.
Lixes blinked a couple times as the man turned away from him, head cocked to one side, "I was told to come to you, that you were the best that there was when it came to weapon crafting and I need to get the best weapon possible!" He said, hoping that if he explained the man before him what he wanted, no what he needed, then he would understand! Surely if the man knew that he was doing important hero work then he'd reconsider? Taking a couple steps closer he said, "I really could use a hammer from the best of the best to help with my coming work! I'm going to be teaming up with brother and a friend, as well as whoever else shows up, so we can help fight off the bug mages!"
"Brother?" So there was more then one of him? The man gave a sighing sound before he dug around for a moment, getting out a piece of paper, and set to writing a list for him, "Here. Supplies." Things that would be useful in making a hammer but weren't exactly easy to get a hold of, a good way to get the kid chasing his own tail until he got bored and so that he was out of his hair.
Lixes looked down at the list that he'd been handed, a list full of things he'd never heard of, before he nodded, "Alright! I will do my best to find this stuff for you as soon as I can!" He said, saluting the big blacksmith before he turned on his heel to hurry off. He had to hurry, to find the various things on the list, to make sure that he was able to get his new hammer made before everyone started to gather for the battle against the bug mages that were tormenting everyone... though he supposed it wasn't really everyone these days, huh? It was more the Alkidike and there were a lot of people that weren't on their side, many that would rather leave them to their fate. Lixes was not one of those people though, he wanted to see them taken care of for the good of the Alkidike and for the good of the other tribes. Even if he got no thanks he wanted to see to it.
The first place that he went was a place where he could get high quality wood that would make a strong, sturdy handle for the weapon. It was actually great that he could pick it out himself because that meant that he was able to decide exactly how long the haft of his new hammer would be.
That was easy enough to get, having had some coin on him as well as some stuff for trade that he'd collected in the forest on his way to Neued as well as during some trips outside back when he was in Andile. It shouldn't be too hard to get the things on the list. He turned his attention to the next item on the list and went to look for that, metal of a specific variety that he assumed was good for hammers? Why else would he send Lixes after it unless it was was necessary. It seemed to be a bit more difficult to find, with him having to go to a couple different people before he could find it, and that in turn ended up with him having to then do a bit of running around to find something that they would actually trade for the seemingly rare metal. To think that what was needed for a hammer was something so seemingly rare he thought to himself.
Alright, so what did he need next? Ah! One of the items that he didn't really know what it was. Something that had to be blacksmith related, right? After a bit of debate he went back to one of the people he'd chatted with earlier about the metal, getting them to look at the final item on his list... and the man could only shrug before sending him on his way. That had him going to one of the people he'd traded with to get something worthy of the metal, then another, and another. Several traders later and he was just as confused as when he started, what in the names of Aisha, Seren, and Chi was it that the blacksmith was asking him for? Should he just ask him?
Arms crossing over his chest, head cocked to one side, he found himself starring off into space as he tried to decide what to do. Should he go ask him? Or was this some sort of test? What should he do in this moment to make sure that he got the right things that would make the best hammer? He gave a humming sound to himself before he finally decided to head back, carrying the haft of wood in one hand, the metal in his pack over his shoulder. He'd take them back, to show the man that he was serious, and then he'd see about getting the last piece that the man wanted.
As he started back he found himself starring at the list and fretting, worried that he'd messed up in being unable to find the strange component. He'd just have to man up, face the guy, and explain that he hadn't been able to find it and the merchants didn't know anything about it either. That had to mean something right? That the man wanted to make him the best hammer and thus was making Lixes prove his ability to find the rare components, right? That had to be it! He had to...
"He's probably given up already, stupid kid. I really hate the wide eyed, head-in-the-clouds fools that come by from time to time asking after my weapons. As though it should be so easy for one like him to get whatever he wants. Back in my day it was difficult if not impossible to get what you needed let alone what you wanted." The white haired blacksmith complained to one of his compatriots that looked as though they weren't quite on board with what he was doing.
The man starred at his fellow for a moment before he said, "What? I could have been more harsh then I was, I could have just told him off. I didn't, I gave him a list of things to find and the rest is up to him. Not my fault that he'll never find one of those things."
Lixes found himself starring at the man as he spoke, as he mentioned that he'd never find one of the things that was on the list. He looked down at it, back to the man, and back and forth a couple more times before it clicked. Of course... he'd never find it because it wasn't real, was it? That was why the other merchants were just sort of starring at him, because he was asking them for something that wasn't real, something he wouldn't find, which had him sighing a bit.
So it had all been a ploy to get him to go away? He gritted his teeth for a moment, finding himself wondering what he should do. Should he yell at him? Should he complain? Should be demand that the guy not be such a jerk for whatever reason he was being one? What was it about him that he hated? The fact that he was young? The fact that he was acting the part of a hero? It could have been because he was a 'fool' as the man said... but he had a feeling that it wasn't that, it was the fact that he was what he was, a person of mixed blood. That was why he was referred to as 'one like him'. One like him, a mixed blood mutt. That had to be what the man didn't like about him.
Teeth gritted a bit he dragged in a deep breath, held it in, before letting it out slowly. Fine, if the man didn't want to help him then he didn't want his help. He didn't want a weapon made by a bigoted jerk, what he wanted was a weapon he could wield as a hero, a weapon made by a good person, by someone that was a hero themselves. Drawing in a breath he started forward, not to the one that he'd met up with but instead to the one that he'd been bragging to, a Shifter who appeared younger then the other man.
He didn't look all that impressed by what the bigger man was saying so surely it meant that he was the better person. Someone that was more worthy to be a blacksmith that made weapons for a hero. That was what he wanted to be, what he was meant to be, and that meant that he couldn't engage with the bigger man. He couldn't fight with him like a petulant child, he couldn't act like a brat, he had to fight in a different way, a smarter way, had to be more mature then he wanted to be.
He had to act more mature, in a way that would make his parents proud of him, would make his brother proud of him. As he came to stand before the Shifter blacksmith he didn't look at the other man, didn't acknowledge him, and instead said, "I got some really nice, dark wood for the haft of my hammer and I got some really nice metal as well. I know that you're not consider the 'top of the top' when it comes to weapon but still, I want it to be you that makes it for me." It took everything he had to remain calm, to hide the anger and shame he was feeling over being picked on for what he was, something that never really came up before.
He just couldn't take it to heart, he couldn't let the man make him feel like a lesser person, he had to be strong and show him that he was meant to be a hero no matter what. The man might think that he could beat him down because of who and what he was but he wouldn't let it happen. His parents were of mixed blood, as was Drexl and his princess, and they were all wonderful people. He wouldn't let a single person insult him or make him feel bad because of what he was because that meant that he thought himself a lesser person. Not only that but it would mean that he thought that those that he loved, his family and friends, that they were lesser people, and that was as far from the truth as one could get.
The Shifter smith looked back and forth between Lixes and his fellow smith before he gave a smile and said, "Sure! Come on, let's go sit down and discuss your ideas for the weapon that you're wanting. It will just be the two of us so you needn't worry about that." He said as he motioned to Lixes to follow after him, ignoring the glower that the two of them were getting from the bigger man. There was no time for all of that, it was time for them to get to work on a weapon!
Giving a smile Lixes followed along after the man, again not looking the way of the other man. He was doing the right thing, he wasn't going to get a weapon from the top smith but he didn't care, he would be able to get a weapon he was proud to wield, by a man that didn't try to insult Lixes and his fellows.
