Class quest
Healer -> Monk
Summary: Requested to take care of some of his brothers animals, Chandra is forced to learn patience and well a new respect for the creatures he considers a nuisance. Why? Why was this happening to him?
It had only been a few days ago that Aysun had quite happily requested that he look after some of his animals. The request as soon as it had left his brothers lips was instantly refused. The healer didn't bother looking up from the book he was reading. One of the newer renditions that his brother had to replace upon ruining the original.
Yes, Chandra was still angry about the whole escapade his brother under went to replace the books that were wrecked. Although Aysun did proclaim in his defense that he replaced all the damaged ones going to great lengths to right the wrong, the twin only haughtily replied that Aysun shouldn't of had the books in the first place. It was his own fault he got himself into that predicament. So to say that he was carrying a grudge was a bit of an exageration, but he was still quite angry despite the countless apologies.
Besides Chandra had no interest in looking after any of the creatures that followed after his brother in loyal abandon. But it was the constant begging upon which Chandra grumpily agreed but only when Aysun broke out the puppy dog eyes. An expression his brother used against him more than once, and it was very hard to say no to that face unless you wanted to feel like you had kicked a baby.
To say it was a very reluctant yes was an understatement. It wasn't just that Chandra didn't hold any interest in the creatures, he had no idea how to deal with them. For a man who loved to learn he was severely lacking when it came to information on animals or real life experiences. It made him nervous and he had tried to pry all the information he could out of Aysun about each and every one of his animals. A slow and lengthy process upon which Chandra wondered if his brother had the shortest attention on the face of the planet.
Then Aysun was off. To whatever adventure was calling him and it had only been a few hours since Aysun had left that Chandra wished he had asked his brother where he had intended on going and...more importantly for how long....
Stuck with the animals now, they had become a very real responsibility for him and the information Aysun had given him suddenly felt...extremely spotty. Chandra was pretty sure right now that Aysun was actually quite tickled that Chandra had shown so much interest or rather demanded the information even going as far as wanting clarification on every little thing when it came to handling each one of the animals. But....Chandra felt that perhaps Aysun had deliberately left out some rather important details, and considering what was happening right now ....it was the only conclusion he could make.
To be honest, Chandra wasn't entirely sure what happened. Each creature had very specific eating needs and it that hadn't been troubling enough he had to feed the animals in some sense of an order. But Chandra had dimissed that as something rather trivial. Why would animals care who ate first? So he started with the impatiently waiting radaku pup first. Since he was jumping up and being a nuisance it made sense to distract the pup first, it was his first mistake.
Once the radaku pup dug in he felt some relief as he wouldn't have to worry about dropping things as he gathered the fruits and headed towarfs the giant bird whom he swore gave him the stink eye before she started into her own food. Chandra was a bit startled to feel irritation coming off in waves from the bird, he had never considered that they had very distinct personalities and that he had just offended a very spoiled kifna.
Moving on the young man didn't exactly care if the animals liked him or not, so he shook off the glare the bird gave him. The serpent however had clung to him as soon as it had been dislodged from Aysun. Chandra hated the feeling. It felt suffocating, and at least he had managed to persuade it off of his waist and onto his arm. Volos was getting heavy but at least he didn't feel like hyper ventilating anymore.
Gathering the next meal he was about to go feed the Janarim when there was a loud screech from behind him. It caused him to stiffen and upon looking over his shoulder in dread he discovered a flurry of feathers...there was a riot happening between Sunny and Sinnika as the radaku pup had thought it would be quite humorous to steal her treat and run off with it. Leaving a rather irritated adult kifna screeching profanities at the younger animal and was now in hot persuit of the agile smaller creature.
There was a flurry of claws, which Chandra narrowly dodged as she flew at the radaku trying to retrieve her stolen food as Sinnika darted past him. The pup obviously found this to be too much fun and was making it a game. Chandra felt his heart pound in his chest, this was too much. He was just..suppose to feed them, make sure they had water...nothing was mentioned about having to make sure they didn't maul each other.
Out of all the animals Chandra had expected something to come from Maw which was the janarim. He didn't trust the oban beast as far as he could throw him and that distrust was probably just as equal of the young healer to the beast. Chandra had managed to give Maw his food only to wince as Volos tightened its hold around his arm. The serpentine creature had literally attached itself to his arm, wrapping around tightening in fear as Sunny continued to make lots of noise pursuing Sinnika.
It was an alarming sight and he recalled wild kinfa's swooping down on anything that tried to get near their eggs during nesting time. They could do some serious damage with those talons...and beak...and Chandra knew that even if Aysun wrecked his books and replaced him...he couldn't just do the same with one of his animals. He would have to do something, but Volos was tightening too tightly it was starting to make his arm tingle from pins and needles.
"Oh for the love of.." The magic wielder hissed under his breath as he literally tried to force the serpent down and off of his arm. He had to deal with the others and if his arm was numb it would put him at a disadvantage. Dimly aware as Volos hit the ground with a bit of a thud he was quick to turn his attention to the ones who were causing the mischief. Moving forward, it wasn't that Chandra was afraid but any sane person wasn't going to just dive between the kifna and radaku.
The kifna was on the ground and cornered the radaku who was still playing around with the fruit in its mouth. Moving forward it took him a moment to realize that Sunny was only ...yelling at the radaku. But she wasn't actually making any move to hurt him. More like when their mother would lecture them about doing something stupid. Carefully he picked his way around the kifna who glared at him and gave him a warning squawk as well. Perhaps warning him about the trouble maker in front of her..or demanding he retrieve her food.. Chandra could only guess.
The pup though...went from one hundred percent focus on the fruit he was slowly destroying with its teeth to Chandra. The youth wasn't entirely sure if this was a good thing or not. The fruit was instantly discarded and the pup, although not full grown yet charged at him. The mage braced himself as he had experienced the radaku's exuberance when it was happy. Paws came up and even braced the young man found him toppling to the ground. It literally felt like he was being jumped upon in happiness.
A park of his cloak was then taken up with teeth as a tug of war became the new fun thing to do. Groaning Chandra found himself a tangle of his cloak, Sunny however had gone over to retrieve her fruit only to look at it in distaste and sulk off in anger. You could almost feel the irritation flowing off of her as she went to resume the rest of her meal. Chandra would of breathed a sight of relief except the cloak was being pulled over his head and Sinnika was attempting to remove him of it.
Tangled with his arms up above his head he struggled and managed to pop free where a new game of keep away began. His first instinct was to chase after the mischievous creature, it was HIS cloak after all, so he was up on his feet sounding as annoyed as Sunny had felt as he tried to grab the cloak away from the radaku. Some rather feeble attempts at grabbing at the cloth he managed to land a firm hold onto to resume the tug of war. The fabric began to rip and Chandra released it suddenly as he didn't want to wreck it.
Sighing as the radaku proclaimed this to be his victory prancing around with the now drooly and holy cloak he went back to his food and went back to eating his new prize dropped beside him. Chandra was tempted to go retrieve it, but he could sense going anywhere near the animal right now would only spur on the craziness. Okay so...Sunny was eating, Maw was eating..now to..Volos? Scratching his head he went to where the kaldari had last been seen only to have it missing.
Breaking into a cold sweat he knew he had been a bit rough with it upon trying to remove it from his arm, but...where did it go?? It was not anywhere in plain sight and it could of slithered off anywhere! Chandra had been riled up before, but panic was starting to set in. He wasn't good with animals, he would of thought good riddance if it wasn't for the fact his brother would be beyond heartbroken at the announcement of one of his newest animals missing. It was for his brother and not wanting to disappoint him that sent him hurtling around the immediate area to search for the creature.
Even braving past the janarim to looked and see if the serpent had decided to snuggle up with the creature or behind him. Over turning what felt like every stone, bush and creature. Even going as far as trying to bribe the creature out of hiding with its favorite treat..gems. It felt like he had spent hours looking for Volos. Sinnika 'helped' dragging his cloak around and poking his head into crooks that Chandra looked in. The help was really more of a nuisance but Chandra couldn't find it in him to get angry as he was too freaked out at the prospect that Volos was gone.
Staggering back into sight of the house he had searched quite a parameter around their home trying to locate the creature. Even Maw had come with them, a sense of unity among them as they searched for Volos. Chandra felt chocked as they came back empty handed. It felt like they had looked everywhere for Volos. Ragged and exhausted, he numbly gave the animals their water and another treat before he went and slumped against a tree trunk, slipping down to where his satchel lay. He had never felt so anxiety driven before. Worries flooded him, what would his brother say? Do? It was rare for Aysun to get angry but losing one his of pets was definitely going to get some sort of reaction and it wasn't going to be a good one.
It had been a really long time since Chandra felt so vulnerable and worried. He could care less if he was hated by everyone in the world, but not his brother. Crossing his arms over his knee's he rested his tired and hurting head against them. Now wanting to cry in his frustration of the situation but trying to keep himself together. Aysun could come back any minute, he had no idea how long he was to be away. What would he say to his brother? What would he do?
He felt the presence of feet pad towards him, something was being nudged in his direction and as he looked up he came face to face with Sinnika panting in a tired fashion before he went to grab the bottom his satchel and pick it up. Books tumbeled out as well a very confused and distraught Volos who had curled up in the dark comforting place. Chandra's eyes nearly bulged out of his head as he was quick to stop chastising Sinnika and go to praising him. One hand going out to pat the creature on the hand whilst the other went to scoop up Volos. He didn't care if the creature squeezed the life out of his arm..he wasn't putting him back down until Aysun came back.
Now with Volos back with the pack everyone seemed to allow themselves to relax. All in the party were tired from their trek and searching. Chandra was now slowing feeding Volos a task he had once considered annoying he found rather peaceful now as the little serpent happily ate gem after gem. Chandra had learned a lot today, he felt ..more of a connection to the animals his brother loved. More of an understanding why Aysun liked to collect them. It was sort of like an extended family.
But he would make sure to NEVER agree to look after them again alone.
