Homecoming TwingesWord Count: 871 Yvette's recovery had come along nicely, despite how slowly she had regained consciousness inititally. The day had come where she was to go home. Her father had nearly crushed her full upper body as he hugged onto her, his eyes still filled to the brim with tears. He was such a large man that it would have almost been hilarious to watch him in such an emotional state.
Almost.
Most people would have feared for their lives and kept any laughter to themselves. Mr. Weaver always had that sort of air to him that read "I will kill you if you look at me wrong!"
Mrs. Weaver had not been able to join her husband at the hospital due to work. Mr. Weaver had such a varying work schedule that he frequently was able to show up during the daytime to any sort of event. Growing up, Yvette frequently saw him practically popping out from the audience (due to his height) whenever there was some sort of play or awards assembly. He was such a caring Daddy. The girl knew this and accepted it as a fact of life. Everything he did, he did because he loved his baby girl.
Upon Mr. Weaver's insistence, the girl was loaded up onto a wheelchair so she could be brought out to the car. Yvette was much too weak to be walking out to the car, or at least that was what he argued to the front desk. Thanks to her father being such an intimidating hulk of a man, he got his way. He almost always got his way. The only two people he didn't get his way with usually were his wife and his daughter. Putting his large hands about the handles of the wheelchair, he began to push the precious cargo, Yvette, to the car. He loomed over the girl thanks to his height of 6'4." She glanced up so she could see the fuzzy brown hair about her daddy's chin as they exited the building. "Daddy, I almost forgot how tall you were!" she confessed in her tiny voice, not able to get over how short she was feeling.
The man stopped and looked both ways before crossing the parking lot. He was much too concerned over her healthy and safety to glance back down, but in his gruff voice, he reassured her "Mommy and Daddy are going to make sure you are safe!" He paused, then attempted to possibly lift her spirits. "You know, your mother and I have been talking, and we think it’s about time that you got a phone of your own."
Yvette smiled and giggled. She knew what this translated to. Translation: We got you your own phone so we can check up on you and make sure you are safe. Not wanting to let on that she knew all about his diabolical plan, she uttered "Thank you, Daddy!"
They rolled up to her dad's beat up truck, which had a few more dents in it than she remembered. Daddy had road rage, and his mood probably wasn't all that good over the past year thanks to a certain daughter having gone missing.
"Daddy... I-i'm sorry..." she whimpered out as her head sank down until she was looking at her toes. Somehow, the dark-haired girl knew that this was all her fault. She hadn't been careful enough. She had been foolish and fallen for a trick. Even though many other teenagers had fallen for the Barren Pines scam, Yvette knew that somehow this was all her fault. Rather suddenly, about where the girl's spine was, she felt a strange feeling. It was like that chill you got running down your spine when you felt like you were being watched. Yvette knew she was being watched, since her father was there and talking with her, but somehow the feeling wouldn’t go away.
Rather suddenly, the girl was lifted up out of her chair without any problem whatsoever. The girl let out a yelp (though it sounded much more like a squeak), but soon enough hushed herself as her father's voice pointed out "No, Pumpkin. You have nothing to be sorry about!" He kissed her cheek, which tickled the girl thanks to his beard, before he set her down on the front seat of his truck. Only Mr. Weaver could scoop his daughter up so effortlessly and cradle the small girl in his arms like she was a child's toy. Once the girl was settled in, he helped her with her seatbelt, leaning in and adding "None of this was your fault! We'll just have to be more careful from now on!" He gave her one of his rugged smiles, which she responded with a small kiss to his scratchy cheek.
"I'm still sorry for worrying you, Daddy."
That feeling in her spine was still harassing her, but she decided to ignore it to pay attention to something more important. The feeling only slipped away once they had driven away from the hospital, heading home. The newspaper for the next day reported that a monster of some sort had been sighted near the hospital. Good thing that Mr. Weaver and Yvette had left when they did.
Right?
