New Music, meet Ignacio Araya. Ignacio Araya, meet new music. Love new music. Embarrassingly dance to Britney Spears' new music in the store and ram into... GRAYSON GRAVES?!
Ignacio was more excited to see him than anything, having recognized him at the hospital but not actually getting to see him in person until that moment. They share an emotional hug, and then Ignacio laments about how much they lost and how good it is to see him. It leads to Grayson inviting Ignacio over to dinner, which he eagerly accepts so he could find out more about him and get away from yet another dinner lecture. They depart and agree to meet later that night...o2

Dinner With The Folks

After meeting up with Grayson at the store much to Ignacio and Grayson's happiness, he goes home and explains to his mother that he's going to his friend's for dinner that night. He arrives at Grayson's house dancing but quickly determines that he must look formal and sharp to make a good impression for reasons he doesn't quite process.
...Nevertheless, he does. Ignacio acts formal and polite, keeping his incessant fidgetting to underneath the table. He makes a very good impression on Arthur and Van, who throw him off by saying he can call him Arthur and Van, and then Grayson proceeds to invite Ignacio to stay the night.
With an insistance that he'll manage, Ignacio says he's not going home thast night and appreciates the offer but he'll be fine. And so, after dinner and thanking Van, he leaves.o3

Why Worry?

Ignacio does indeed successfully sneak out and successfully get his party on. He just didn't count on one element in the equation: Grayson Graves. Grayson ends up getting himself up out of bed out of worry to find Ignacio and make sure he's alright. Ignacio is a little tipsy and spinning, but it turns out that he's mostly alright--or so he says--and is more concerned about Grayson in all of this.
Ignacio gets Grayson's shoe, gives him his coat, almost gives him his own shoe, and argues that he's fine and Grayson needs help until Grayson gives in and lets himself be dragged home. Mid-drag, he tries to convince Ignacio that he can take it from here which leads to more disagreements and hypocrisy...
...until Ignacio is distracted by cheers to strip. Whoops. He ends up dragged home half-naked, half-tipsy, and half-delirious while flirting with Grayson and attempting to get him to join him in bed. Exasperation and even some sense of fondness ensues...o4

New Years, New Arguments

January First, Two Thousand and Ten.
In the last year, he had lost almost everything. He hadn't lost Melody, and he had gained Grayson, but everyone else was dead. Lucas Hendricks was dead. Most people from Barren Pines were dead without burial. Were dead and zombies still, for all he knew.
When he sat down and let his mind wander to it, he could feel his eyes burn. He was trying to prevent it, but he was alone...
But he wasn't going to cry anymore. Babies cried. He wasn't a baby.
Ignacio glanced over to the champagne bottle left on the end table and sighed. He took a small plastic cup and poured the alcohol in, taking a small sip. It burned. It was comforting, in a way.
"Mijo, you're going in as a senior."
And then he was not alone. Ignacio gulped the rest down, ignoring the horrid sensation it left behind.
"PAPA."
Really? He had went missing as a junior.
"Mijo, I don't want to hear it. You're going to graduate like everyone else. I already worked it out with the Meadowview administration."
That just meant Baldomero Ignacio Araya had just yelled their ears off until they had buckled and said, "Okay, fine!" Ignacio had already finished all of his standardized testing anyway. His father had insisted he study extra over the sophomore summer and take them during the junior year winter.
Just before he disappeared, actually.
"Here's your schedule, Mijo."
Blink. Blink.
"...This is an overload. There's no study periods."
And where the hell was his lunch period? No, no, no, he was not taking his lunch to class again. Hell no.
"That's why it's called homework, Mijo. Why do you argue! You're going to get a diploma with all the other Meadowview kids and attend a good college."
Ignacio glanced longingly over at the alcohol bottle. Perhaps with another drink, he could reason this out... Of course, his father wouldn't let him have that. He swiped up the champagne and glanced at him with a scolding expression. "Who let you have this, anyway?"
He couldn't win.
"Mama, Papa. Mama said that it was alright for me to have a little drink on New Years'. I'm seventeen, it's 2010, and I just escaped from a year of being dead. Give me a break." Ignacio was glancing ahead at the television now, not even looking at his father. The television was off.
This was the ultimate show of disrespect to Baldomero. "That's the type of attitude will leave you a bum at age thirty! No Araya shall be a bum, Ignacio Cesar Araya! No Araya that lives under my roof!"
Dammit, he was in trouble. "Yes, Papa. I know, Papa. I won't be a bum, Papa. I'll get a job as a CEO, Papa. I'll make you proud, Papa." Couldn't he be left in peace?
Papa Araya glared with a glare that could kill kittens, but it was also clear he wasn't in the mood for this. It was January First, 2010. "Ignacio, we'll talk more about this later. When you're not so heady." With that, he stormed out.
Leaving Ignacio alone again, sitting on a loveseat facing a television.
And he buried his head in his knees and cried.
For Lucas. For Barren Pines.

Ignacio hates school.
HATES school.
Fortunately for him, there's a surprise there to make it better: Grayson Graves, a second semester senior like him, happens to also be attending Meadowview High for his last semester. After a running jump-tackle, Ignacio and Grayson spend a little too long embracing and a little too long exchanging touching looks and tender wrist-strokes...
...Okay, so they really didn't intend to look like a couple. They aren't a couple. It failed badly, but all Ignacio cares about is the fact that he's at least found a friend who goes to this miserable school.o8

Sometimes, things could only get worse before they'd get better.
Screw this homework. Screw it. Ignacio didn't give a s**t if he failed the assignment. All he needed to do was pass the class, and a D was still passing. It wasn't stellar, and there was no way he was going anywhere but the local state college, but he honestly didn't care. The last set of grades on his record were his standardized tests, and those were good. Stupid admissions office could forgive a typically bad final semester.
So Ignacio was more inclined to lay the backpack at the edge of the couch, while he laid down and played ping-pong with the ceiling. Could he make an honest dent in the ceiling? It was a more interesting theory to test than the theories his math class threw at him, and so, he started hitting the ball when he came back down to his paddle harder and harder and harder and harder--
--until it lodged itself in the ceiling. Whoops. Ignacio grinned at the ceiling and grinned at the paddle, before dropping it next to his still unopened backpack.
Now what?
Maybe he could watch the television. Ignacio reached for the remote to find it wasn't there. Confused, he moved his hand around the end table to make sure he hadn't moved it, before he heard an, "Ehem." Oh crap.
"Hi Papa." Ignacio chuckled nervously, moving his hand back to his side to glance up at the figure which seemed intimidating from his position down on the couch.
"Ignacio. Cesar. Araya."
...Middle name?
"Have you finished your work?"
The assumption was no. When Ignacio opened his mouth to make excuses, Baldomero glared down at him and continued talking anyway. "No? You should do it. You should do it right. now."
And Ignacio didn't want to. So, instead, he shrugged. "No." First mistake. And then he reached for the television remote Mr. Baldomero Ignacio Araya was holding tightly in his hand. He pulled it away from Ignacio, and glared harder. Second mistake.
"Ignacio, I don't think you understand what I said. You should do your work. Right. NOW."
"I did understand what you said," snarked Ignacio, with a smirk of disobedience shining on his face. "And I'm not doing it."
Third mistake. Final mistake.
"IGNACIO CESAR ARAYA." Baldomero kicked the couch, making Ignacio jump and whirl around to look at him. There was tangible fear in his eyes; why was Papa looking at him like that? Ignacio had snorted fire out of his nose; Baldomero's very eyes were made of fire. He fiddled nervously and glanced towards the wall, but Baldomero turned his head so it was facing back to him. "Listen to me.
"Despite what I tell you, despite what I've always told you, despite what you've gone through, you still do nothing productive. You lodged a ball in the ceiling!" Looked like Papa noticed. Whoops. "You haven't started on your college applications. You won't do any of your assignments and you've already come back with multiple Fs."
"On Pop Quizz--"
"THAT'S NO EXCUSE." And Ignacio shushed himself again, though this time, instead of fear, equal anger burned in his eyes at being interrupted. "There is no excuse for your inability to do anything. If you keep at this same pattern, you'll end up worse off than those other sufferers in that organ trafficking ring of yours! Nothing's worse than someone who was given a second chance who throws it to the wind!"
Ignacio was furious. Boiling. "DON'T YOU DARE SAY ANYTHING LIKE THAT AGAIN."
And then, "You, Ignacio Cesar, never tell me what to say. You're going to become a bum if you talk like your superiors like that. Unemployed forever. And then you'll have no money. No friends. No love. No shelter."
Baldomero thought he was fixing things with these statements?! He was ruining things. Bringing up bad situations and bad grades and continuously nagging and insisting that he would waste his chances and become nothing but a lowlife... He was done. "FINE." And Ignacio scooped up his backpack, shoving by Baldomero. "Have it your way."
And Baldomero thought this was good. Finally, the boy was listening. It was only when the boy returned back to him twenty minutes later with a loaded backpack, a fanny pack, a coat and a sleeping bag attached to his backpack that Baldomero said, "Ignacio Cesar Araya, what the hell do you think you're doing?"
"If you think I'll be a bum if I keep living like this, might-as-well get a headstart."
He turned around and smirked. And that was the last his family saw of his face before the front door shut.
Slam.
Sometimes, things could only hit rock bottom before they got any better.1o

Ignacio catches the eye of a woman in the hallway and decides that she is worth flirting with. Unfortunately, Ignacio is wrong in his interpretation and she was actually just looking at him, gosh. In any case, Dani eventually recognizes Ignacio as the "guy with more freckles than face" that was totally a couple with the "dark-haired cutie," and so decides to eat lunch with him and Grayson.
Incidentally, Grayson and Dani already knew each other.
Incidentally, she asks a question that leads to disaster, with Ignacio invoking the word 'Never' which he hastily takes back when Dani repeats the idea, making him realize he was completely wrong. Is there any way to make up for this catastrophe?11

Freezing After School

After school on Friday, Ignacio runs into a man who looks oddly familiar for unknown reasons--Organ Pines doesn't seem to explain everything--and stops to talk to him. They talk about school and horrid books, but eventually the topic wanders to Melody, whom Azzo seems to like. Azzo seems like a nice guy, though he says some odd things about sensing monsters that Ignacio needs to look further into. After all, he's been getting those weird feelings too.
Before much more can be said, though, Ignacio grins in that ever-so-familiar way and Azzo freaks out and runs, leaving Ignacio completely baffled as to what exactly is going on.12

Melody comes to give Ignacio his Christmas present--and is confused by the fact that he is lurking around Meadowview! Ignacio makes some excuses, of course, mostly claiming that he is dressed up for the play (he isn't) and that he is dirty because his role required him to be so (it wouldn't've). They have a fairly easy conversation despite Ignacio's lying before he decides to turn tail and head back inside... so he could find a warm place to sleep before they locked down the school for the night.
Melody, of course, shall never know what Ignacio's true reasons for leaving and acting so oddly though... or will she?13

After a Friday, a weekend, and a Monday of Grayson being utterly missing, Ignacio makes himself look like he's fine so he can go visit the Graves' house to see what is up. Much to his deep concern, Grayson had been attacked by people with unusual weapons and Ignacio hadn't been there to do anything about it.
He first finds out about this mysterious Jude character, who Ignacio will have to look more into. What is he up to and what is he like that he's leaving Grayson broken like this?
And Grayson will have to wonder why Ignacio looks too concerned to be just a friend.14

Second Chances

So it turns out that maybe Ignacio wasn't meant for the bum-life after all as Grayson discovers him in class looking like an absolute sleep deprived wreck. While Ignacio tries to excuse it at first, Ignacio eventually offers sleep deprived and worrying ramblings that first lead Grayson to believe Ignacio is sick and then that something is going on in his home life. He eventually resolves to take Ignacio home with him, and while he protests a little, it's gone too easily when Ignacio remarks he is glad they can hug again.
Soon enough they are at the Graves' home, and sleepy, dirty Ignacio is dropped into Grayson's bed. Ignacio attempts to get Grayson to stay with him, but it fails (for a second time), though Grayson did consider the offer this time.
Eventually, Ignacio, at the least, gets some sleep.15
