The first day back to school after a break was always something close to torture for Grayson. After a break that had included suicide, youma, and the headrush of retaining memories lost after his first death, it was something closer to a death sentence than anything. He didn't want to be there, and he certainly didn't want to deal with being one of the new students and eighteen years old on top of it.

Plus, that ridiculous story about the organ ring was going around. He just didn't want to deal with any of it.

Of course, he didn't have much choice. His parents had made it pretty clear he was getting a high school diploma and he was getting a job or he was finding a new residence. He wasn't too keen on living under a bridge, so he'd suffer through the rest of the school year. He'd somehow manage to scrape together the grades needed for passing, though the effort required in that when he'd missed half the year seemed daunting at best. He could only hope the school would make some allowances considering he had been (apparently) kidnapped for an organ trafficking ring for a year.

Barren Pines. There was only one thing - one thing he really missed about the school, aside from the people in it.

Pants.

A frown crossing his face, he paused for about the thousandth time since donning his uniform to tug the hem of his shorts down. He was really just attempting to comfort himself; the shorts remained as they ever were, which was too short for his liking, and his legs were bare to blind anyone who walked by. Honestly, Grayson had never been tan, and never would be. The Meadowview outfit made him feel like he was a traffic hazard as he walked to school, though.

He'd never gotten complaints about his legs before, but they were not showcased to their best advantage in the shorts. Not that he was trying to impress anyone, but still.

Pausing at his locker, he messed with the combination a few times, finally managing to get it on his third try. He shoved his uniform in it, already depressed by the fact that he'd have to leave school and go immediately to work. He was never going to get time to spin fire again.

He closed his locker, sighed, and leaned his forehead against it.

It was only the first day back, and already he just wanted to find a desk and go to sleep on it.

not working on all of the bullshit they were going to assign him in these meaningless a** classes...

...If they were a** classes, actually, that wouldn't be as bad. At least they're be something to admire.

That thought comforted him for a moment before he huffed and hawled his backpack on. It felt way too heavy, but that was because he'd have no time to stop at his locker in-between classes. What did he do to deserve this bullshit?! Could it get any worse? Ignacio would have to talk to guidance about changing his damn schedule; he was graduating anyway, why did he have to take all of this bullshit? Who needed to take both British Literature and Wold Literature anyway? And who cared about Earth Science?! It was a planet with rocks on it, woohoo!

If he wasn't so bitter he probably would have gotten excited about something on his schedule randomly. As it was, he was wishing he was back in Barren Pines. At least that had some mystery to it, and they let him be lazy, too! He liked being lazy! It let him do whatever the hell he really wanted; why didn't they have classes like--

Wait a minute.

Was that Grayson?

Suddenly, Ignacio forgot whatever he was mentally ranting about in favor of looking at those pasty legs. They were really pasty. They didn't do nearly any justice to that nice dancer's a** he had. Yes, they did need an a** class. Ignacio was an a** man at heart, and he probably could describe plenty of different a** types in detail if people asked enough (which really, wouldn't take much). Needless to say, though, he was earning a couple of confused stares with the way he was studying the annoyed student's lower half.

And he just glared again, making them shut up.

Ignacio turned his attention back to Grayson and then decided he needed to make his presense known. With a wide grin, he set his backpact calmly near the edge of the row of lockers before suddenly bursting into a run, not stopping even when he got to Grayson.

And then Grayson would find that two freckled arms were wrapped around him tightly, something had nearly bowled him over, and there was an exclamation of, "GRAY!!!"

Overexcited much?

Of all the things that could have happened before he even got to his first class, being the victim of a running tackle was not one of them. He didn't even get the benefit of any kind of warning; before he was even aware there was a healthy teenage boy hurtling at him he was already absorbing the impact as best he could, arms coming up to circle around whatever else was trying to -- attack him? hug him? knock him over?

Thankfully, he had plenty of practice staying on his feet after such surprise attacks, considering Elke was his little sister and she delighted in flinging herself on him when he was least expecting it. So, he swayed a bit, but ultimately managed to stay on his feet, looking more than a little baffled as he rested his palms against the shoulder blades of, apparently, a fellow student.

He blinked, gaze falling on a familiar person, and a smile like sunshine broke over his face. "Ignacio! Hello."

If he thought it was awkward to suddenly have his arms full of Ignacio, he didn't say. He simply shifted his grip so that it was actually a hug, ignoring the snickers and awkward muttering that started up.

It was a new school, but he figured he'd have to put up with all the same things he had at any other school. He wasn't going to not be affectionate with his friends, after all. And it wasn't any big secret that he was from a somewhat unconventional household, even by the present day's standards.

It would also not be a huge secret that he preferred men to women. Grayson wasn't about to lie about it, so the first person who got up the gumption to ask in between giggles would be able to spread the word, he was sure.

But that wasn't the concern at the moment. Drawing back, still looking pleased, Grayson said, "I didn't know you were going to Meadowview too."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 12:24 am

Some of them were chortling even harder when they realized that one of the people in the strange tackle-turned-hug was the one who was a fire-breathing dragon. Ignacio ignored them for the moment, more concerned with his Grayson-filled tunnel vision.

"I didn't know you were going to Meadowview either! Good to have some people I know here. Mellie's heading back to Crystal and my other friends are," he cut off, deciding that this wasn't the time to bring that up. "Well. It's good to have you here, anyway." That was all that needed to be said about it. He was pretty sure that the fact that he wasn't quite letting go of Grayson yet said all of the things he wanted to say.

As well as somethings he probably didn't want to say, with the way a few of the students around them were giggling with new gossip already to speak about. And Ignacio was busy not caring. No, he was busy actually trying to enjoy the little slice of happiness that this ******** day had offered him, and he was going to take advantage of it as much as possible.

The boy was still holding his schedule, and he eventually removed himself from Grayson to look at it more closely. "I have the shittest schedule on the planet," this was not an Ignacio in a typical happy mood. No, this Ignacio was only smiling for one reason, and everything else could go screw itself. "Papa insists I overload, which is bullshit, because now I don't have a proper damn lunch. I'm going to talk to the guidance counselor today. I'm supposed to talk about college, but meh, that can wait until I can live through this last semester. A study break would be nice so I don't have to spend all night working especially since second semester senior year is for lazyasses but getting a lunch would be better than having to eat at class. I hate school and everything it stands for, okay well not everything, but certainly most things, like..."

This was called Ignacio ranting. He rambled, but this was the first time he had really ranted at Grayson. There was fury in his eyes for the school, for his schedule, for his dear Papa for insisting he take this schedule, and slowly more and more curse words were leaking into his voice before he just muttered, "********," and the rant was over and done with. Without giving Grayson much time to absorb that Ignacio had probably just talked his ear off in the process of less than a minute, though, he moved on to say, "You in anything interesting this semester?"

Maybe they were in some of the same classes. That would make this hellhole a little more tolerable.

It was a peculiar feeling to be held for any great length of time by anyone who wasn't, well, Elke, and Grayson found himself a little embarrassed as the embrace went on. Not because he didn't like Ignacio, but rather because he did like him, and the close proximity was in danger of making Grayson like him a little too much. Especially considering their misadventures the night Ignacio had wanted to go clubbing, Grayson thought with a slightly perturbed look.

That didn't matter, though. Ignacio had been drunk, and regardless anyhow, Grayson was in no position to be pining after anyone. He'd barely come to terms with Benny's death, hadn't he? And he wasn't even sure he was prepared to accept that. Going to his grave had taken a lot out of Grayson, and there was a part of him that was still recovering. That probably would be recovering for a long time.

It was worse because his parents didn't understand, hadn't met Benny, and never would. He knew they assumed he was visiting the grave of someone who hadn't lived through the organ trafficking ring, and though that wasn't exactly true, it was close enough. It would only hurt them to know what had actually happened at Barren Pines, as well as the fact that he and Benny had been closer than friends. Maybe not much, because they hadn't been given the chance, but...

And there he was, drifting into melancholy thoughts while Ignacio was talking to him. He shook his head slightly in an effort to clear it, saw that Ignacio was looking at his schedule. Helpfully, he pulled out his own, offering the crumpled, abused piece of paper to the other boy.

"I don't remember what my classes are. You can compare if you want, though." He smiled slightly, adding, "It'd be nice to have some classes together."

Ignacio seemed to have forgotten that he went from worried over Grayson to wanting to strip in front of him the other night, in a strange turn of his own distracted events. It was something he wouldn't admit for a long time, if ever, that something in his brain somewhere actually wanted too; Ignacio would total it up to ego (which he did acknowledge he had, and no, it wasn't a bad thing) and keep moving on.

Moving on in this case meant that he was busy comparing schedules. He mentally noted when Grayson's lunch was--maybe he could bargain with the guidance counselor to get that lunch on his schedule--and ran over the schedules again and again to make sure that he caught all the match-ups. They were both seniors, after all, right? They had to be taking a lot of the same classes at this point. There wasn't much left besides satisfying the big wigs who thought they were so bloody special in their administrative offices.

"Looks like we're both taking World Literature," offered Ignacio, lamely. Apparently he did have to stay in that class. "And whatever this science bullshit is; honestly, I don't give a flying ********, I just want to graduate already." Okay, he was pretty bitter.

But Ignacio liked Grayson. He liked Grayson a lot. At least he was here. Seeing him a couple times a day would make life better. "Anyone else you know going here?" This was an odd question. He should have asked if it was anyone he knew.

...but in the process of Organ Pines, he lost every friend he had except Melody and Grayson. And for a social extrovert like he was, it was a pathetic state of affairs.

Because they still had a little bit of time before class started, and it didn't seem like they were going anywhere, Grayson crossed his arms and leaned against his locker. He watched Ignacio compare their schedules, having honestly forgotten the majority of what he'd signed up for - really, he'd let the guidance counselor arrange the necessary classes for him to graduate, and had been content with it. Maybe he wasn't happy about it, but Grayson could rarely inspire himself to be happy about school.

As soon as he graduated, he was going to have to find a better job, and fast. He really didn't want to go to college. He had the feeling his parents were going to force him, though, by threatening to kick him out again. There was a lot of love in his family, but he knew that his parents wouldn't let him waste away his life under their roof, so he fully believed they'd boot him out and let him see firsthand what life without a college education was like.

He didn't look forward to the idea. So, he had about six months to come up with a game plan. Maybe he'd ask Jude for suggestions? Jude wasn't going to school, but then again, he was pretty sure Jude was living in a truck at the moment.

Maybe asking Jude wouldn't be the best idea.

Violet eyes flicking back to Ignacio's face, he offered his hand for his schedule once more, tucking it away in his pocket when the other was finished with it. His tone was easy and relaxed, indicating none of his more troubled thoughts. "Graduating is my main goal. I don't have to pass really well, I just have to pass."

It wasn't a go-getter's attitude, but no one would ever convince Grayson of even wanting to be a straight A student. School bored him, school irritated him, and school was not something he wanted to waste effort on, period. There were so many better things to do.

He blinked at Ignacio's next question, pursed his lips. He actually didn't know many people who were going to Meadowview. He hadn't asked many of the Zodiacs, and until just now, he hadn't even known Ignacio was attending. Oh, but!

"Sue is," he said suddenly, smiling. "Sue Gottschalk. Other than him, I'm not sure... I've kind of kept to myself since getting back."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 1:03 pm

"Graduating's my main goal too," griped Ignacio, with a groan and a huff. "The sooner I get out of here the sooner I can move out into a dorm or something." Considering Grayson's love of family, this might seem to be a weird goal for Ignacio, especially since he just moved back in with his family. But he didn't seem inclined to elaborate on exactly why he wanted to get out, because he kept moving on like nothing had been said.

...Just like always with Ignacio whenever he revealed anything.

"Oh, you mean Catboy?" Okay, he had nothing against Sue Gottschalk. The guy was terribly aggressive and was destined to grow up old and full of cats, but Ignacio had nothing against him. Other than the cat smell he usually carried. Still, at this point, Ignacio didn't care if the man smelled of cats, at least he would be someone familiar. With Melody at Crystal, again, Grayson was the only friend he had there and it would be nice to have a bit of a wider circle of familiarity.

He was familiar with Calintha too, but he didn't know she went to this school yet in any case. And as soon as he did, there were no doubts he'd be attempting to hang around her too, or anyone who caught his attention as being familiar.

With a chuckle, he added, "Not that I have anything against Sue. That's just how I always knew him." 'At Barren Pines' was decidedly left out of that. "Maybe we'll run into him. It'd be nice, seeing people I know. This entire place is completely foreign to me now," because it obviously hadn't been at some point, since he was only gone for a year and his parents did live in the area.

And then, he sighed. "I'm sorry. It must be foreign to you too."

Grayson frowned a bit when Ignacio referred to Sue as catboy -- if only he knew, he thought -- but his expression cleared up easily enough. He liked Ignacio, which meant he trusted him, so when he said he had nothing against Sue, Gray believed him. It was nice to know more than one person in the school, though he doubted either of them would have many classes with Sue, considering he was a grade below them.

After a moment, he said, "Oh, and Yvette. Yvette Weaver, I think? She's a senior, too." Another person Grayson didn't know particularly well, but she seemed nice enough, and he hoped to get to know her better. Everyone could use more friends, right?

When Ignacio apologized, Grayson's eyes softened, and he reached over, touching his wrist lightly. "It's okay. Don't worry about it, okay?"

A girl passing by stumbled, clearly having seen the delicate touch and the tender look that passed between them, no doubt misinterpreting it entirely. Grayson ignored her, his main concern reassuring Ignacio, not caring how awkward it probably looked.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 8:21 pm

Yvette... where did he know that name from, and why did he feel like he should know it better than he did? Oh, she went to Barren Pines! ...That wasn't it. Ignacio scrunched his nose, but soon enough he moved on, more distracted by the delicate touch on the wrist. That gentle smile he offered in turn definitely sent off messages that neither of the teenagers were intending to send off...

...But off they were being sent, anyway. "Thanks, Gray." The tender moment lasted long enough to leave incorrect impressions on stumbling girls and giggling onlookers but short enough to not make the false situation absolutely obvious. And for school gossipers, well, that was the perfect type of situation to whisper about.

For now, though, Ignacio hadn't a care in the world about that. "Maybe Yvette will be in some of our classes too? Maybe there will be a group of us in these classes, all working on getting out of here as soon as possible." Now he was laughing, more cheerful than before. Seeing Grayson had brightened him up a little bit, but there was something about him that never failed to bring a smile to his face.

Ignacio wasn't sure what it was. He would have to make a mystery out of this and solve it like Sherlock Holmes. It would give him sonething to do in class. "I hope we don't have to catch up on too much in class. I never actually talked to the guidance counselor; did she tell you there was anything to worry about?" And back it was to small talk, go figure.

Almost as soon as the moment began it had passed, but it left a funny feeling in the pit of Grayson's stomach. He knew what it was, had felt it before, but just as in the other times, he buried it. Attraction was something that he flirted with from time to time, but he was the sort of person who didn't act on his feelings, and rather waited for others to take the first step. It wasn't exactly conducive to having long, healthy relationships, but he wasn't about to change his ways. It was much easier to avoid being hurt, really hurt, if you didn't put yourself out there, after all.

He dealt with being attracted to someone the same way he dealt with everything else. He ignored it.

He was glad for the subject change, and he rolled his shoulders, back at ease once more. "Mostly, I was told that I had to keep on top of the classes she gave me, which are mostly core ones needed to graduate. If I toe the line, I should be good."

It was the toeing the line bit he was going to have to work on. Sigh.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 9:32 pm

Toeing the line... maybe he could get away with that too. He was going to graduate at the end of the semester, after all, just like Grayson; there was really no point in holding him there if all of his standardized exams had already been finished, right? Just some core requirements were left, which were piled on in his schedule along with various unnecessary electives because his Papa thought they were a good idea. Pssh. Good idea his a**.

No, no, no, this wasn't time to be bitter again. He had found a friend. "Maybe she'll tell me the same thing, which would be good, because then maybe I can drop a class and get a lunch in turn. That'll be good. I'll try and get the same lunch as you." There was something to look forward to.

He didn't know why he looked so forward to being around Grayson, but on this second time Ignacio would chalk it up to the fact that he was the only real friend he had left around, besides for Melody, but Melody didn't go to Meadowview. At least he had the cell phone, though. He could text her about these horrible classes with these horrible teachers and this horrible thing called graded work.

"What homeroom are you in?"

"You should get an appointment with her," Grayson opined, sliding his hands into the pockets of his shorts again. Augh, shorts. He frowned briefly, one hand curling around his henshin pen, the other crumpling his schedule some more. He couldn't believe he was going to have to wear this uniform for half a year.

Eyes flicking back to Ignacio's face, he waited a beat before removing his schedule once again. He unfolded the paper, pursed his lips at it, and held it up once more for him to read. He hadn't actually looked at Ignacio's schedule, so he had no idea if they had homeroom together or not, but he was pleased by the idea that he might try to get lunch with him. He liked Sue and Yvette, but he wasn't sure if they would have lunch together or not, and it would be nice to have at least one person. He wasn't against eating alone, but he'd rather not if he didn't have to.

"It'd be nice if we had lunch together. Otherwise, I'll probably eat and then sleep through the period."

He said it so casually that it didn't seem like a big deal, but the truth was, if Grayson didn't have someone to talk to, he probably would fall asleep. He was fairly certain he'd be dozing off in class that day, just because it was school and he wasn't all that thrilled to be there. It was only actually dangerous for him to fall asleep on a free period like lunch, because he couldn't count on anyone to wake him up and make sure he moved on to his next class.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:03 pm

Dammit! Why did they have to be in different homerooms? They were both seniors, right? Why couldn't all the seniors be the the same homeroom? That would, of course, be impossible considering the senior class was actually rather large, but it didn't stop Ignacio from pouting as he handed the sheet back. "Looks like we don't have the same homeroom... but I'll try to get the same lunch," and he offered a grin.

Teasingly, he slightly prodded Grayson in the side. "Ya know, to make sure you don't sleep through the entire day." One of the things that Ignacio had realized quickly was that Grayson was the night to Ignacio's day when it came to energy. Ignacio was nearly always going, going, going, going. Grayson would only go, go, go if someone else encouraged him to or if he found a reason.

That didn't seem to turn Ignacio away from Grayson at all. If anything, it made him more inclined to encourage him. Still, as he was about to offer some encouraging words, that damned bell rang, and Ignacio muttered, "********' bells and their ********' forcing us to ********' follow their every ********' demand," okay, so Ignacio really, really hated the greater majority of things related to school.

"I'll see you in World Lit, okay?" Ignacio offered a typical grin and a brief armhug before glancing back behind him for his giant backpack. It better have still been there. If any dumbass kicked it aside he would turn into a fire-breathing dragon. That sounded like fun.

The bell had Grayson frowning again, though his reasons weren't as intense as Ignacio's. He reached down to where his backpack was propped between his feet, lifted it with a small sigh. So it was time to really head back to school. He was so over this school business.

Dad was in for a nasty surprise if he was seriously still thinking that Grayson wanted to go to college. He couldn't think of anything he was less suited for, except possibly prostitution.

The thought made his lips twitch a little, though.

"See you around, then." Grayson smiled and brushed past him, glancing down at his schedule one more time. Apparently, he and Ignacio had to go in opposite directions for homeroom. He'd see him in two classes, though, and maybe lunch.

That had to be good enough, right?
