Shylock's Journal

Called Euri today. She grew too, that's pretty cool – I grew in Jan. I got to go to a comic con with Taylor the other day. It was kinda cool but I wasn't used to that kind of costume. They were all dressed like superheroes and stuff – I'm used to more body paint and such. The guys we met were pretty nice though, talked about super powers and stuff. They gave me a few comic suggestions for what I'd liked and one guy even gave us a discount on his wares since I was a “new convert”.

My birthday's next week. Gonna head to Taylor's house and chill with him and maybe go see a movie with Euri on another day. She's gonna see a Godzilla movie with me – I watched one with Nero the other day, he liked it. Met a bunch of littler kids this week – they were kinda cool. One was about Nero's age and kinda dorky – Pippin? Nice boy, he's a humility kid. I think Euri knows him.

Met a few other little ones too – Jeff, he was okay, played frisbee with me. Bleez was all right, a bit energetic though. Lilewam (ram? I couldn't tell) was kind of a headache to deal with though. I wouldn't mind as much but my folks were gone and we had to stay with Grandpa and Kyin and merrrrrrrrrrg too many kids in one house. There was Des, Nero, Orin, Leo, Mai, Oliver (who was sooooo ticked that I was there. Somethin about me hornin in on his territory) and a couple of kids called Rori and Ryker that kept popping in and out.

Anyway, I only just got this journal so I figured I'd write in it. Seeya.

Zane Reflects

Zane stretched as he lay on the couch, watching his kids play nearby. Shylock, the eldest, had grown a lot in the year he'd been with them. The boy was already on the verge of the dreaded teenaged years and behaved more mature than most his age were expected to. He was a dedicated big brother, had a few good friends his age, and a rather responsible kid. It was rather surprising sometimes to think he was a pride spawn at all.

His son was by no means perfect, though. Even for a preteen, Shy had his own issues with authority – mostly government – and had an already strong dislike of stupid people. He could get easily annoyed and even mean if someone bothered him enough, and he tended to get annoyed with too many people in too small a space – particularly if they were people who insisted on touching him.

The boy was full of strange contrasts at times. He'd seen evidence to show that Shy knew quite a bit about what clothes and patterns went together – the spawn had a pretty good eye for that – but he was an almost total nudist. He also knew a good bit about interior design, but preferred to stay in a very simple room and have very few possessions. It was weird at times but the boy was good and that's about all Zane could ask for. And yet, he worried what would happen when the hormonal teen years really hit.

Shylock's...plan

Shy was a very strange creature, in some ways. Unlike his siblings or friends, he'd known rather simply what he wanted to do with his life. It hadn't been a sudden stroke of inspiration or a long drawn out procedure of thinking. He'd just slowly been gaining bits of the puzzle without even looking for them, till one day he had noticed it was complete.

When he'd been little, Shy had learned to help out with his little siblings. He had been too quick to make decisions about what was right or wrong with other people, but his family helped him grow into knowing how to be kind and take care of others. As he grew, he learned how to be patient with friends, through having to wait through Taylor's silliness and making sense of it. Helping at Cirque he'd learned a love of truly giving of himself and helping others. Now, as he stood, a young adult, he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

It'd taken a bit of research into finding out just what sorts of tests and qualifications were necessary to become a therapist. He'd studied books and courses and taken a few online ones over the summer to get a feel for things. He grew too much and too fast to spend years in college to get a degree, but with so many fast growing young people about, Gaia was starting to deal with special schooling situations for them, and figuring out what tricks and tools could get him the right certification fast enough was easy, especially in Cirque.

Having that certification was one thing, but Shylock had decided at some point that it wasn't enough. He wanted to be the best he could be and for the people he wanted to help – how many times had he heard stories about other kids from the Seven of Seven laboratories going through issues because of how their dna mixed, or just general problems in life. They came from a place that was cold and remote, with families that couldn't completely understand or handle their problems, and then they were faced with a real world that wasn't meant for them. It would be a trouble on everyone's mind.

When he'd heard about his best friend, Taylor's big sister getting injections of more wrath DNA into her, he knew what would be needed. While Shylock didn't completely like the idea of such a change, particularly to himself, he knew what would be necessary to deal with the other spawn in the necessary way – he was going to have to go to the labs and ask for their help.

It was his decision to ask for injections of Patience DNA so as to better handle his patience with care, and be signed up as councilor so the spawn could have someone they were sent to in times of trouble. Heaven and Hell knew, he'd be better at it than the techs were – the techs didn't even care about the spawn, and he had a feeling that he could talk Vampy to his side. He was a pride spawn, after all, and they were good at talking. Now he just had to make the appointment and hope they agreed.

Meeting of the Opposites
Blind Date - Shylock and Damien
PostPosted: Wed Mar 16, 2011 10:39 pm

To Be or Not To Be

At this moment and time Mr. Vampy was tired, stressed and downright in a foul mood. Then again when wasn't the silver haired man in a bad mood? It seemed like it followed everywhere he went.

His chair creaked as he shifted in the seat, he was suppose to be meeting with Shylock about now. He wondered why he had so many of the spawn recently clamoring for his attention. But this one had made an appointment and he couldn't just ignore the request so he waited looking at his watch every so often with impatience.

Shylock arrived at the designated time looking - wait, was he actually overdressed? Okay for SHYLOCK this was overdressed anyway, the jeans, t-shirt and sports jacket actually made the mint haired youth look almost dashing. He wore light shoes and still had that strange air of complete comfort with himself - maybe even too much comfort - that followed him everywhere and radiated off the spawn, figuratively anyway. He smiled politely, knocking on the demon's doorway as he let himself in. It wasn't as if he wasn't expected and really, if what he was told was true, Vampy was usually in a foul mood anyway so coming in rather than knocking and waiting was probably not going to do him any severe disservice. It's not like he was likely to interrupt anything he couldn't have heard from outside the door. At least as far as he knew anyway>

"Good afternoon, Mister Vampy, you're looking well." he complimented, tone easy and actually quite genuine for someone telling an irritable demon that they looked good, despite being angry, overstressed and severely over busy. "Lots to do lately, I hear."

The man sitting in his rather comfy looking chair gave the young man a sharp look his golden eyes glinting before he swiveled to face him. He gestured for the man to sit down before a hand went to brush his hair out of his face. Looking well? These pleasantries seemed to fall on deaf ears, though he gave a bit of a tensed shoulder at the last comment.

"Hmmm...lots to do." He trailed off not looking at Shylock in particular but the wall behind him. His hand on the desk fidgeted with a frame on his desk before he refocused on the man in front of him.

"Yes I am a busy man Shylock...so if you'd please get on with explaining the point of this meeting?"

"Certainly." the sharpness seemed to not strike him very hard and the youth sat coolly in the chair, his hands clasped neatly over his knees. "I understand that presently the facility lacks anyone particularly qualified and available to do therapy, particularly from the standpoint of a spawn. I wished to apply for that position with a special stipulation, if you'd be willing to hear me out." he explained, getting to the point at a reasonably quick pace so as not to leave the older male too much material to be pissed over.

Vampy's eyes narrowed to mere slits, he looked the spawn over before they flickered over to where the boy's file was sitting on his desk. Oh yes he had read up on the boy he liked having the upper hand after all.

"Is that so?" He started off slowly, considering he wanted this meeting over and down with the man before Shylock seemed to relax a bit and even leaned back in his chair his fingers lightly touching each other. "What's make you think you are qualified to handle this sort of position?" He inquired sounding a bit curious although more like he didn't believe Shy had the skills required to be a therapist. Though as he thought on things it made sense to have a spawn be a therapist...after all he knew how much the spawn liked the technicians. A spawn...would probably prove to get more responses out of those who looked for help.

"Well, for one thing, I am a spawn, so I have a background that they're more likely to relate to." Shylock put out before pulling a paper out of an envelope he'd been carying with his tail. It was a degree from a university recently set up and accredited by Gaia for those who needed to be in the working world fast, particularly those who grew quickly, such as children like Shylock himself or even Gino Gambino, who grew years in a spawn of a few months. "I took classes to gain certification. It's amazing what sort of classes are available these days."

The man made a gesture for the boy to hand the certificate over, after all he had to make sure that it was a legitimate thing.

"There have been many instances were children from this facility reject coming back to this place. Though I do not blame them, my staff are not best suited for raising children." He acknowledged this and this was why he got outsiders to raise the kids, after all this was an experiment and it would no doubt fail if his staff were to be raising the kids instead.

Shylock handed the paper over, as well as the rest of the file containing his other paperwork, in case Vampy needed to see it. "Understandable - you hired them for scientific business, I assume, not socialization." he agreed, "That's why I thought it might be prudent to offer my services here first."

Vampy looked over the certificate and it seemed to be real, so he handed it back before rolling his neck and allowing the bones to fall and crack back into place. "What you say is true, we do need more help within the facility, but I am yet convinced you can do this job well." He looked Shylock over and to be honest was surprised at the amount of clothing he was wearing (given the records showed him with much much less). "I would suggest a trial period...though I am wondering if you expect any perks for working here?"

Shylock nodded, fidgeting with the sleeve of the blazer a little - at least it was warm, albeit not something he at all wanted on his person. "Perks, not necessarily. I would hope for a paycheck of sorts as it is a job, but due to what I intend to ask for next, I assume it would be greatly reduced. My best friend's sister, Mareike, recently came here and requested injections from the current wrath demon for her own reasons. I wish to improve my ability with this profession by getting patience DNA injected." he explained, "Though, of course, I understand you aren't likely to want to do that for free as well as hiring me."

So the truth came out, he knew it wouldn't be so easy as simply hiring the boy to give therapy to the spawn who need it the most here. Of course not.
"You understand that in Mareike's case she was already a wrath spawn, it didn't really conflict with her genetics if only enhance it. Now I know you are a pride spawn, so giving you patience's DNA wouldn't conflict either...but it would be adding a third blend your body may reject it." He stated leaning forward to look the boy over once more. "And you are accurate in your assumption I would not do it for free."

"I'm willing to take that chance if it would improve my ability to help other spawn. If it doesn't work, I will continue to work as therapist if I am fully hired, and if it does, then I will most likely be able to do better. Given my combination versus that of some others I have met, I'm more likely to be able to handle the transfusion without too many ill effects - patience isn't as volitile as wrath for injections, and both as a person and dna-wise, I am on the more mellow side of things." Shy pointed out, not really weaseling but being honest. He had nothing to lie about and his motives were purely for his work, rather than for personal gain. There was nothing he as a regular guy needed that his own combination didn't provide. "And I should hope so - I'd worry if you gave something like that to any spawn who asked free of some sort of charge."

Leaning back the man eye'd Shylock over before nodding his head, "A trial period, first to see if the blood transfer works," He started slowly, "If the blood is accepted then you can start taking in patients. Is this acceptable?" Vampy seemed relunctant but he had no real choice, the boy was correct and even if he had supplied a therapist from his own staff the spawn would not longer seek their help. "We can discuss your payment once we see if the transfusion is a success."

Shylock smiled, "Certainly. Shall we arrange for that today, then, or do I need to make another appointment for the transfer?" he asked, hands still folded neatly in his lap. "I know you're quite busy so if it needs to wait for another day, it can."

Vampy shook his head giving a dismissive wave of his hand, "Today is fine. I'll have one of the doctors meet you at the hospital ward. We may as well get this started, we could use a therapist sooner rather than later. Don't you agree?" He was smirking it was hard to say whether or not he found this whole ordeal ironic or not.

Shylock chuckled, "Yes, most likely." he agreed, standing up smoothly and waiting for Vampy to follow, if he indeed planned to. Might as well get this over with, or at least started now.
