Hanging with the gang
Mareike's eyes narrowed, hers fingers cleaned tight and she shuffled her feet just a few inches to the left. The maroon skinned girl gritted her teeth and swung her tennis racket hard at the incoming ball.
* Thwack* The connection was good and the force of it sent the little green ball hurling back to the other side of the court.
Tennis was something Mareike loved, it kept her mind and body active while being competitive. She loved her weekly lessons but it was good to get in extra practice at the children's center, plus it allowed her to spend more time with her new group of friends.
" Too much force Mareike" Carlos judged as he sent the ball back at her and mad her run to the far side of the court. " not enough direction. it doesn't matter how hard you hit the ball if it keeps coming back in a straight line the other person will be able to hit it." Carlos was a teenager older than Mareike, but human and not stronger. Still he usually won their matches becuase she simply couldn't compete with his level of skill. All of diligence speed and wrath's power were no good if she couldn't learn to see past them into the fine art of direction. As she forced the ball to careen back towards's Carlos, Mareike had to admit it didn't look like it was going to happen anytime soon.
Still, the young girl enjoyed bleeding off a bit of energy during the bouts. Mostly she just enjoyed spending time with children of like minds. Those who were active, slightly aggressive and focused on gaining more strength and power. They were the children's guard , the children of the members of the real children of gaia society. They played and fought and trained together, kept an eye out in their own neighbourhoods for trouble and for the older kids patrolled the streets for trouble that they could take care of on their own. By association with their parents they believed Gaia belong to them, they would inherit it one day and they wanted it to be a better place.
Which wasn't to say that they weren't thugs sometimes, that they didn't feel themselves above some of the societies other children or just other children in general. It was just that there were rules that most tried to follow and they tended to stick to themselves leaving others out of the way of their wrath unless provoked. They fought amongst themselves for hierarchy and friends and power but they were still a unit in a loose sense. One day they would simply be the guard, a similar unit comprised of adults, they could and did work alone at times but they needed to know they could count on each other if they had to.
Mareike struggled with rules at times, she was new and competitive and her mind was sometimes running on the anti-thesis to rational. Still, the group was excepting her slowly, helping guide her into the fold and showing her the ropes. It was strange for the young girl but she found she liked most of the group and prefeered to spend her free time with them.
When the match was over Mareike sat down a few feet away in a beanbag chair and wiped the sweat off herself with a towel she's brought for that purpose. Her body had heated up but not become anywhere near exhausted a great trait she'd inherited from Shar and diligence. All around her other children ran and played and wrestled. It was chaos and tense and all in all it felt like home
