Jack dragged his newest 'victim' across the floor, rising a whine from Carrie. "Come on! I need to check them!" Let's see.. A wolf, a tiger, a puppy, a panther, an evil bunny, a squeaky turtle, a panda, and a pig. That was eight, right? Wait, seven. Where'd the bunny go? With a dominant grunt, the boy continued to drag the blue thing across the carpet by an ear, gurgling something over the fabric as he went.

It hadn't been as hard of a task as she had thought, Jack could be picky sometimes. But apparently, all of these toys were... Tasty, when covered in BBQ sauce. That was his latest drug, kept him docile for oh.. Ten minutes. Even ten minutes was long enough with him though, shoot, ten seconds would be long enough. Any break was good. She sighed, all right, all eight were here, well, he had the last one, but he was close enough. But what could he possibly need eight animal toys for?

Jack: Toddler Quest!

It has been far too long for this vicious little baby. But he's finialy ready to grow! What does he need to aid him in this task? A stuffed pig, a red sweater, a knife or blade of some sort, a goldfish (preferrably in a bowl. ...and alive), and two magical items. These must be gathered together in one place.

Jack growled, trying to push his only piggie toy away from the garbage can where his mother had so rudely thrown it. Carrie let out a little whine, "Jackie, you can't keep that thing, who knows what's on it!" She pulled it away from the stubborn boy, earning herself a bite to the shin. It wasn't as bad as usual though, so she simply shook it off and tossed the disgusting toy into the can again and turned to face the "little mongrel" with a forced smile. "We've got some presents for you anyway baby." She cooed, lifting him into her arms despite the struggle he put up. "You're- Gonna like- Them." She managed between being kicked in the chest. Well, the reason there were presents was that the boy had been behaving, but perhaps it would be best to save them for another time. Another swift kick. No, maybe they would distract him.

A few rarely present family members sat in a wide circle around the child a few minutes, and bruises, later, each of the younger ones wrestling to give him their gifts first.

Using their speed and small size, the twins Ilori and Isaura managed to get to him first, holding out identical silver boxes.

The next few gifts were a lot more calmly delivered, after a session of joint scolding from Carrie and Ul.

And a boar knife from Dee, though Carrie tried to take it away from the boy, not a chance -

A time for revenge...

"The tables have turned Jackie," Cassidy cooed, propping her elbows up on the side of his playpen, The toddler started to growl, baring his teeth at the older girl, "I'm not scared of you." He could speak well for a toddler, perhaps that had some relation to his slow development. "I'm bigger than you now, even if you've grown, I'm still much bigger." She reminded him, showing her own, almost sharper, fangs. She was only older than him in a sense, and it was the fact that she was so much bigger that annoyed him more than anything else. To think that not that long ago he could pin her down when they fought, and now she could toss him around like a stuffed animal. As if trying to express that frustration, he stopped growling, gave her a blank stare, and said quietly, "So what?" Alright, so he wasn't the most agreeable child. "What should we do today Jackie? Should we go swimming? Oh no no, of course not, that would be out in the sun, we'd both get sunburns. You wouldn't like that, would you Jackie?" Her smile said it all, she knew he despised being called Jackie nearly as much as he despised her. This was revenge, it was war, and it would last a long, long while. Jack showed his own sharp teeth more, trying to best her. Even if he couldn't beat her in a fight, or get out of this stupid pen, he could still win in a tooth fight, "I hate you."

Momma's on vacation and she ain't coming back
Dictated to and translated to proper English by Duncan

Cassidy and Arroyo are staying at the house, but I have to live with Aunt Ul still, maybe for good. They told me Momma went on vacation, but I know they're lying. Momma's gone, and she's not coming back. She said she was tired of all of our fights, that she was going to go insane if she stayed one more minute. In the middle of the day a few weeks ago she packed up her stuff and left us here, and she hasn't called or come back. Aunt Ul keeps saying she'll be back in a few days, when her classes start back up, but Cassidy said she called the place and that Momma wasn't going back. She was weak. I don't feel sad. She was too weak, so now she's gone. It's a good thing. The people in Aunt Ul's house, I guess I should start calling them my brothers and sisters, are prey. Not a single one of them, with the exception of the two youngest girls, Tangia and Liang I think, deserve to live. And the girls only deserve it because they don't talk back and they show me the respect I deserve. I'm strong, I should be the leader, I should be the one people bow to. I WILL be the person they bow to, someday. Soon.

Lord of the Gophers - In dire need of professional help
Tangia and Jack

The days had been getting steadily harder and harder for the family, and they were spending less and less time together as a result. Teagan usually spent his time weight training in his room or in the basement, Liang was busy with her calligraphy, Tangia had been wandering the house in a sort of trance, the twins were trying to find their niche, and Jack had declared himself Lord of the Gophers. The boarish toddler had been getting worse instead of better. The jaded calm that had settled over him when he first became a toddler had all but vanished, leaving behind a startlingly violent soul that no one had tried save. He had the most malformed sense of right and wrong, and his lack of social interaction wasn't doing much to help the situation. There was a reason his mother had rarely let him play with other children, aside from the possibility of lawsuits. He thrived off of an audience. When it was just one person he knew and he wasn't really riled up, he was alright, but give him any sort of audience and he could be a sort of sadistic nightmare that no one liked to believe existed. His aunt however, was not aware of this, and readily let him off to entertain himself.

On this particular occasion, his audience was the dogs, loyal creatures he assumed would cheer him on no matter what he did. And his victims? The gophers that tunneled in and around the pastures. The dogs probably would have run had they not been penned up, and their fear of him was understandable. The toddler stood caked in mud and naked but for his knife's sheath strung up on a loincloth-like swatch of gopher skin. His hat had been left up on a fence post so he wouldn't get it dirty, and with good reason. Every so often the boy would scream, grab his knife with his left hand, and plunge his right arm shoulder deep into a gopher hole, pulling one of the creatures out by its head. Before the gopher could even try to wriggle and escape, he would swing his knife across the front and cut its throat. He held them for a while as they died, his enjoyment of the sight, feel, smell, and taste of its death obvious from the crooked smile on his face. When it was finally out of its misery, he would toss it into the pile he had made out of his previous victims and go after another.

About an hour into his "task", covered in the animals' blood from head to toe, Jack was still going strong. Without his knowledge though, another person had joined his audience. Tangia had followed him outside and for the past hour, she had been watching his grotesque actions through wistful pink eyes. Her frilly clothing was draped in careful layers around her, set perfectly without so much as a wrinkle. She seemed to emit a soothing aura, though she usually scared people with her almost ghostlike quality. "Jack," she whispered, drawing his attention away from the squirming critter he currently held. He let it drop to the ground and scamper away before turning to her with his teeth bared angrily. They were both well spoken for their age, having to do with the long times they each had been spent 'trapped' in their infancy, though Jack still had a tendency to slur words while Tangia pronounced them clearly and carefully. "Waddaya want?" he growled, trying to scare her off. Tangia, because of her traumatic past, was not easily phased. Instead of looking frightened, she squared her shoulders and locked her empty eyes with his own baby blues. "You shouldn't be doing that," she warned, gesturing to the pile of gopher corpses. He flashed a snide smile, "You gonna try an stop me?" She nodded, not looking away from him as she walked boldly closer and closer, "I am not going to try. I am going to stop you." He shook his head, waving his knife with the point toward her, "You're not gonna take another step."

Ignoring his brutish warning, she kept going, and found herself with her stomach pressed against the tip of the blade. His hand was shaking, though whether from fear or excitement he didn't know. It wasn't supposed to be like this. Girls were supposed to be afraid of boys, especially prissy girls like her. And more than that, everyone was supposed to be afraid of someone with a knife. He pressed it forward a bit, penetrating a layer of her dress, but Tangia didn't flinch. Her bloodstained ears fell onto his hands as she looked down, but left with the same tickling sensation as she looked back up. Her eyes remained blank as he pushed it through her slip, even as the blade brushed against her skin, leaving a patch of little cuts and scratches. With a steady voice, she placed her hands on top of his on the hilt and spoke, "Are you going to kill me?" He looked stunned by the question, but more so by the touch, "Why not?" She closed her eyes, letting one hand leave his to fiddle with the crucifix around her neck, "I have no reason you should spare me, even if I haven't done anything to harm you. I simple do not want you to spend eternity in Hell for ending a life like mine."

Like hers? What made her any different than him? He puffed out his chest, but hesitated at pushing the knife any further, "Hell ain't real." She sighed, opening her eyes again to look at him, "You don't really believe that. And even if you did, how could you be sure? You've never died." As she spoke she pushed the knife back, eventually taking it from his grasp. He was stunned into silence, both anger and a higher, stranger, almost eternal fear settling over his mind. Tossing the knife away she forced him into a hug, and told him that he still had a chance to redeem himself, to be forgiven. None of this would set though, it wasn't who he was. He was still shaking as she started to dig little graves for the gophers, and even still later on when Aunt Ul told him she had hired a therapist to talk to him about his impulses. The therapist would also be talking with Tangia about her depression, she had said. He didn't really believe that the bunny girl was depressed, just a much older, wiser person trapped in a toddler's body. But all of that was a story for another day. For now, he had just learned a very important lesson. He needed to find a way to avoid going to Hell.

Life Lessons (Jack and Kilah) - Main Thread

[X] Akilah
[X] Jack

Quote:
"The bear went over the mountain, the bear went over the mountain."

Crack. Crash. Thud.

"The bear went over the mountain, to see what he could see.."

Now, of all the Sin'aeis, Kilah was one of the last (if not the last) you'd think you'd ever hear singing at all, let alone a song like that. What could she say? Those damn little kid songs were catchy!

The other noises were also attributed to her doing.

It had just been so easy to rip the door off the garden shed and toss it behind her. Her song became a light humming noise as she carefully felt around the tools.

"Aha!" The Sin'aeis stepped back, the shovel held tightly in one hand. She ran her finger along it and seemed to approve. "This should work."

Quote:
Jack had been, essentially, dumped off on the street. It was his Aunt Naomi's decision, mainly because she hadn't wanted to deal with him for any longer than necessary. He had wandered around bored for a short while, then heard a somewhat familiar voice. Curious, it would be interesting if it was who he thought it was, he headed toward it, stopping a few yards behind her. "Wassat for?" he said loudly, not thinking that it might startle her. He was slumping, hands shoved casually in his pockets, and he didn't really seem that interested in an answer.

Quote:
For reasons beyond just being blind, Kilah's hearing was amazing. She'd heard the toddler coming. What she hadn't been able to deduct right away was which toddler it was. Oh, crap, what if they ratted on her?

She tensed until said toddler spoke. Just Jack. Jack wasn't the type to care. Even so, she wasn't about to tell him what she needed a shovel for.

It would've been obvious to someone older, anyway.

"Don't worry about it," the teenager said firmly, and the object fell to the ground with a clang. "What the ******** are you doing out here? Little kids aren't suppose to wander alone like that."

Nevermind she'd done it at his age.

Quote:
"I'm not little," Jack snapped, "Sides, 'Omi dudn't want me around." His hands had gone from his pockets to his sides, close enough to his knife to give him a bit of comfort. "I ain't leavin," he grunted quietly, more to himself than her. She wasn't going to scare him off. He might have been small, and he might have been what his therapist called, "overreactive", but he wasn't a damn chicken.

Quote:
"I don't give a ******** if you leave or not," Kilah told him honestly. "But if someone snatches you up and rapes you and kills you I don't want to be in trouble for it." God, she hated kids.

Not that anyone else was around, but you could never be too careful.

Lifting the shovel for the second time, she turned her head this way and that way, then headed off toward a thick group of trees.

Quote:
Following after her with a little bit of hesitation, he piped up, "Why tha ******** would they do that?" The toddler had pulled his knife now, for the feeling of power it gave him, and swung it loosely at his side with the assumption that Kilah wouldn't have heard it. Whatever she was doing had to be more interesting than watching the grass grow around here. Or at least he hoped so. Maybe she was just going to dig a hole?

Quote:
"Hell, I don't know. I'm not that kind of crazy, Shorty."

As far as Kilah was concerned, there were different kinds of what people considered crazy. She was definately one, but far from the kind who'd do that sort of s**t.

The group of trees led deeper into a forest, and Kilah narrowly managed to avoid bumping into a variety of trees and rocks. Eventually, the path became clear and they were in a small field.

"Don't you have something you should be doing now?" the teenager asked carelessly, planting the shovel into the ground and slinging some dirt up.

Quote:
Jack shook his head, crouching down to pick up a rock. "Like what?" he asked, sounding a bit sarcastic even though he wasn't really trying to. Standing back up, he started to toss the rock up and down, finding the motion even more calming because it was so steady and unchanging. "I don't got many friends," he admitted, cocking his head to try and get a better look at what she was doing.

Quote:
"I don't know. Get kidnapped or something?" That's about all Kilah could remember from her younger days. Though, as a toddler she'd snuck out of her house on her own multiple times.

More dirt flew into the air and landed behind her. Kilah dropped the shovel, bent down and reached her hand in. It seemed she was trying to caluculate how deep it was, but knowing her it could have easily been something else.

"That's not surprising," the girl said bluntly, getting back to her feet. "You just need to find some semi-crazy friends." Like Lyrus. "Or someone very tolerant of you." Like Mignon.

Quote:
He frowned, tossing the rock off somewhere in the field. After a moment of silence, he stood up, straightening out his sweater absently. "Ance's tolrent, and yer crazy," he said, sarcasm still evident in his voice though he was being a little bit more serious. The boy didn't really see the point in a lot of friends, mainly because it meant he'd have more people to 'behave' around.

Quote:
"Ancelin? If that's who you're talking about, no s**t. She's my cousin." Or something.

Setting the end of the shovel on the ground, she leaned against the handle and turned toward where the other voice came from. Gesturing with her free hand she said, "Look, Shorty, I know what's it like for you. We're not so different. It might not seem like it, but having people can be a damn important thing for you later on. Call them that, call them friends, s**t's the same no matter what title you slap on it."

"Anyway," she continued, starting her digging again. "Find people who don't give a flying ******** how you act. Those are the ones you want by you, because they won't rat on you if you happen to kill someone."

Quote:
"Like my sister Tangia?" he asked, a bit curious about what Kilah seemed so stuck on, "Well, she's not my sister, but she's cool." In truth the bland rabbit girl was his cousin, or his aunt's daughter. Something like that. But she stuck up for him, no matter what he did or didn't do. "And no one'll know if I kill someone," he added gruffly, seeming a bit proud of what he assumed to be a fact.

Quote:
"Sure, whatever," the Sin'aies agreed in a tone that suggested she'd barely caught what he said. Checking the dirt again, she seemed satisfied.

The last thing the toddler said made her laugh. "Not my problem if you don't wanna be a glory hound," she told him, so amused by what he said for some reason. "It's not a matter of people not knowing. It's a matter of them knowing, and not being able to prove anything."

Rising, she rested the shovel handle on her shoulder and headed back to where they'd come.

Quote:
Before following her again, Jack wandered over to investigate the hole. He didn't see anything strange, but then again it might have just been hidden beyond what he understood. The toddler had no misconceptions that he was a genius, but even if he wasn't that smart he understood that some things were better left unasked. "How can they prove somethin?" he asked, speeding up a bit to keep up with her. He didn't know much about the police, aside from what he had seen on TV, and he had a bit of a morbid curiousity about crimes, murder especially.

Quote:
"First of all, there's this thing I call 'benefit of the doubt'. You, me, kinds like us. We don't get s**t like that. Someone says we killed someone, stole something, did something they label as bad, they'll believe 'em over what we would have to say given what's already happened."

Kilah shrugged. "Aside from that, just... I dunno, that CSI sort of s**t. Blood, hair, whatever. This is Gaia, luckily, and people don't really care too much about stuff like that unless it involves them. --You're alright alone, right?"

Quote:
"Huh?" He blinked, "I ain't alone, I'm with you." Definately not the brightest bulb. The boy still didn't understand that whole DNA ramble, or any garbage like that, but he figured if the police were ever looking for him they'd have plenty of blood left behind to find him. "You leavin or somethin?" he asked, tucking his knife back into its sheath with a click.

Quote:
"Planned on it," Kilah informed him. She had to go dig the real hole. One where no one knew where it was. Yeah, he was just a toddler, but you couldn't be too careful. "If your guardian dumps you off they obviously think you can handle yourself."

Quote:
"Wadn't my gaurdian," he growled, frowing at the thought of the crude woman who had dropped him off here. Her name was Naomi, and she was a b***h, no matter what anyone else thought. Of course, a lot of people thought she was a b***h, including his Aunt Ul who did that whole "the world is good" thing. His bit of anger wasn't directed at Akilah, but he didn't really care if she took it that way. If she was just going to bugger off and leave him behind, screw her. "I'm gonna follow you, you know," he said nonchalantly, stuffing his hands back in his pockets, "I don't go away that easy."

Quote:
One of Kilah's eyebrows raised. Her expression could read out as a darkly amused: Whatever, Shorty.

She could swing this shovel at him one time and probably kill him. But that would be pointless, no fun, and she was almost mildly curious why he insisted on tagging behind her like some dog. "Why are you so interested in what I'm doing?"

Quote:
Jack shrugged, not remembering that she couldn't see him, "I unno, I don't got anything better to do." Normally he would have spent the day tormenting cousin Liang, or out killing the gophers in the yard, but since he'd been spending his days stuck with Naomi in the city he really didn't have much to stay his boredom. Naomi, Mari, and that crazy woman Cinnamon were good for laughs, but when it came to fun they were boring as s**t. Naomi would get drunk and throw things at him, Mari would get stoned and just fall asleep, and Cinnamon half the time didn't even know where she was. Kilah at least answered him when he talked to her.

Quote:
Again, the shovel dropped to the ground. Either she could do it later, or dig two holes, and she really wasn't in the mood for the second.

"I'm not good with entertaining kids," she told the toddler, brushing some hair from her face and then reaching behind her to tie the blindfold tighter. "I can't do s**t to amuse you."

Quote:
"Till I figger out what the ******** yer doin you 'muse me just fine," he said, idly popping his knife in and out of place in the sheath. Truthfully he'd be having much more fun if there was blood involved, but this was fine. Yeah, fine, that was the word. Scrunching up his nose when she fixed the blindfold, it looked way too much like a ribbon, he asked bluntly, "Why d'you wear that anyways?" He'd seen other blind people before, and none of them wore weird things over their eyes like she did. Except Ramiro, but that was just one eye, and that thing was cool.

Quote:
"Because an island Goddess b***h gauged by eyes out." It was an oddly casual voice to speak in concerning the matter, but Kilah had said it so many times before it just didn't bother her anymore. "Plus, I like," she added. Why? She wasn't sure. She just did. And ******** anyone who said otherwise.

Quote:
"Coooool," he said, staring a bit more intently at the blindfold. It was a bit hard for him to try not to sound interested, especially since he now wanted nothing more than to get a peek at the empty sockets. Ramiro's eye was like that. He'd showed it to him once, just the messed up empty space where it had been. It was awesome, but it had kind of healed over enough that it didn't really have anything neat to it. "How long ago?" he asked, prodding her for information so he could figure out whether it would be more healed than Ramiro's was.

Quote:
Kilah couldn't help but smirk. It was amusing to her she'd probably dissapoint him with her next words, "Chill out, Shorty. Some s**t happened and I got them back. Now they're just completely white." So she'd been told, and her sister had said it was creepy than them not being there at all.

'Some s**t' was also an understatement. A lot had happened. Kilah just didn't ever feel like telling a story that long. She settled with, "I stored some gems in there and they formed like that."

Nobody'd ever think to look for them there.

Quote:
"Oh," he sighed, dropping his shoulders a bit. That sucked. It would have been better if she'd just left them gone and empty. Wait. Gems could turn into eyes? That didn't make much sense, but then again he figured it never really would. Best just to move on. "Did you steal 'um?" he added, leaning in a bit closer though it wouldn't really affect how well he could hear her.

Quote:
"Yeah," the Sin'aeis answered. Since she wouldn't be doing any digging anytime soon, she plopped down at set to shining her sword with the thick cloth usually kept in her pocket. "From a bunch of assholes. Had to kill most of them."

Quote:
Jack frowned, dropping to the ground to sit in front of her. "You jokin?" He asked suspiciously, all too familiar with smart a** comments making him feel like an idiot. Teagan had told him there was a real tooth fairy, and he'd yanked out one of his own teeth to find out. But that whole thing had turned out to be bull. Of course, in retrospect it did seem stupid, and Kilah's story seemed a bit more plausible.

Quote:
"Why the ******** would I joke about it?" In fact, why would she joke at all? Akilah Ann Kther didn't joke.

...Alright, that was a lie. She did, but not with people like Jack. Maybe Lyrus, maybe Mignon, and definately Chaco. But 'jokes' with Chaco were mostly insults at his expense.

"No, I'm not," she offered. To be fair, it was hard to tell when she was and wasn't being sarcastic. Her tone rarely ever changed unless she started screaming.

Quote:
"I unno, cause people lie to me all the time," he admitted, pulling out his knife for a bit of amusement. Being a little bored, he carelessly gouged a bit of skin off his finger, setting the knife down on his leg before he started to squeeze the blood out of it. It entranced him for a few seconds, then he remembered he wasn't alone and looked up at Kilah, wagging the finger at her for no real reason, "And cause you don't got a reason to be any diff-ernt."

Quote:
"I'm a lot of things, Shorty," Kilah admitted. "But I'm not a liar. Epesically not to other Sin'aeis." She knew for a fact some things she had so bluntly said previously to Chaco in particular had made him cringe. "I've got not reason to lie to you. I don't give a ******** what your opinion of me is, and that's why people lie, usually. Make themselves look better."

Besides, she had grown up spending most of her time with Mignon. And that weird-o could tell when anyone lied, so she'd just never bothered even learning how to do it.

"But you're probably not so bad off not believing people. Most will stab you in the ******** back if you do."

Quote:
Now, Jack was not one to understand figurative language. Especially when it contained the word 'stab'. Picking up his knife, he pouded it into the ground down to the hilt for effect, "They stab me, I stab them." It was a bit pretentious of him, but he seemed to believe it. The boy didn't hesitate hurting people, and he loved killing stupid animals, so he assumed that it would be just as easy to take a human life.

Quote:
If she had functioning ones, Kilah would've rolled her eyes. She would give that he had potential. A lot of it. But he still had so much to learn. Sometimes, you need manipulation skills, not just a knife you knew how to use (or a sword, in her case).

"I'm going home," she announced. "And no, you're not following me." Once again on her feet, she offered the boy a careless gesture that barely passed as a wave, then sprinted down the road toward her house.

Amazingly enough, she went that fast and didn't run into anything.

Quote:
Jack frowned, turning his glance from the Kilah to his knife to his bleeding hand. "Uhn," he muttered, wiping the blood off on his pants. As she sped off, he seemed a bit confused, guess he wouldn't be following her. The boy wasn't very good at running, too much exercise. Grabbing his knife, he got to his feet and headed back to the sidewalk, intent on walking back to Cinnamon's shop since he was fairly certain Naomi wouldn't be coming to pick him up. That girl was just going to get weirder every time he met her, wasn't she?

[ORP] Distraction from All Sides (Jack and Mae)

After a scuffle at an underground club, Jack sounded a false fire alarm and got himself and Mae stuck surrounded by people. Since neither of them wanted to get in trouble, despite deserving it, they used a few minor fireworks as a distraction. Unfortunately, their distraction escalated into an actual fire, but only on a space blanket on the ground. At least it pulled the attention off of them. They escaped down the street, and hid in an abandoned subway tunnel. Jack has new respect for Mae, though the kid that was with him ranks as a wuss.
