Even though he wasn't still having to stay with Aunt Naomi, Jack was in a foul mood. He'd been swearing and fighting with his brothers all morning, and so, to give the house a bit of piece, Ul had dropped him off at a nearby park, hoping he would distract himself with the firemen's annual cookout for a while. Well, he was distracted all right. The boy had already won two eating contests against grown men, impressive for a toddler his size, and had earned himself a bit of respect and half a roasted pig. The latter was more self proclaimed, having cut it himself while it was still on the grill. He had dragged his prize away from the group, settling behind a big oak tree to chew through it.
At present, he was chewing on a long strip of burned skin that had easily torn off, mmring over it quietly. Today had been an okay day, but it didn't really make him feel any better. He still felt angry, still felt like he wanted to hurt something. His therapist had told him that he would feel like that sometimes, that it was unavoidable, but it didn't make him feel any better to know that. Swallowing the piece he was chewing, he suddenly flared up, punching his fist through the hunk of meat. This sucked. Downright sucked.

Aurelia, in contrast to the gloomy mood of another toddler nearby, was in a wonderful mood. It was lovely weather, there were bugs everywhere, and her bird was actually following her. She hadn't been sure whether it would fly away or not, but after the initial capture, it seemed to grow to like her.
Though she still hadn't named it.
With her guardian sitting on a bench and reading (or hiding behind her book as she oogled at the firemen), Lia was free to roam the park at will. And she was - though her current movements would most likely be described as 'stalking'.
A cricket, that is.
With one happy 'pounce' that brought her around a tree, she caught it~
And lost it, as she blinked in surprise at a very large piece of meat. Then she noticed the person, and her friendly nature won out over her sadness at losing the cricket.
"Hihi!"
She seemed completely oblivious to however disreputable the other toddler looked - or grumpy.

Yanking his arm out of the hunk of pork, Jack cracked his fingers absently. "Whachoo want?" He growled, not really caring that it might seem rude. People usually didn't talk to him with those happy voices unless they wanted something from him. Well, most people just didn't talk to him. He wiped his sleeve across his face, hoping to get some of the grease off. Remembering what his therapist had said about making friends to make chances, he sighed and held out his hand for a shake, "Hi."
Now, for most people a handshake was a nice friendly gesture, but at the moment Jack's hands held a mess of grease, spit, and dirt that would have made Ancelin sob. He'd gotten along fine with the clean girl, but she was a bit obsessed. There wasn't really any point to staying clean, you needed to get down into the dirt to really experience life. And come to think of it, getting down in the dirt was just what this girl had been doing.

While most people would have been horrified at the idea of shaking a hand that diry, Aurelia had no such cares. After all, as Jack had noticed, she had no qualms about getting dirty; why should she care if someone else was dirty too?
Though her mother would probably have a different view of that.
Then she thought on the first question - what did she want? Hm...
"Wanta catch bugs wi' me? M Aure-lee-ya!"
It was now that her bird caught up with her, landing neatly on her head and using the leaves to hold himself there. For a moment, she attempted to peer up at him - in the process, appearing rather cross eyed - but finally decided that she wouldn't be able to see him like that, and turned her attention back to Jack.

Bugs? Bugs were ok. Jack nodded, "Yeah, bugs. I'm Jack." He paused, remembering that he couldn't just leave his food all alone and expect it to not getting eaten by ants, "First, meat." Hesitating, he gestured to the hunk of pork, "Want some?" It would be quicker if she ate some too, he was starting to feel full as he rarely did, but he was still fairly protective of his food.
This girl wasn't that bad. She was a girl right? Yeah, Aureleeya was way too girly of a name for a boy. And if she was a boy, that would make her a he wouldn't it, then she would be a real pansy. Pansies were fun to mess around with, they cried and crap like that. This would be fun, yeah. He needed to be positive, that's what his therapist said. Positive.

For a moment, Lia merely eyed the food. It wasn't what she normally ate, but...well, you never grew if you didn't take new chances. So, dismissing her uncertainty about the meat, she chirped out a "Sure!" -
And attempted to rip out a chunk. She was unsuccessful for a few moments, before finally yanking some out. Then, eating it - well. It wasn't that bad, though she didn't think it was her favorite sort of food. Not too great, but not too bad either.
She supposed she could eat more, but it wasn't so good that she wanted to eat much of it. A little was alright, though.
"S'okay."
A shrug accompanied her opinion.

Yanking off another piece for himself, Jack nodded thoughtfully, "Iss' better with sauce or somethin." Anyone who would eat pork couldn't be that bad. A lot of the people he'd met were like, vegetarians or vegans or all that crud. Even his brother Teagan, the supposed hot shot. How could he be a good athlete if he didn't eat meat? Meat made you big and tough and strong. Jack wanted to be big, he didn't want to be some little shrimp his whole life. He wouldn't be a shrimp.
"What kinda bugs you wanna catch?" He asked between bites, cracking his neck absently. Cracking his joints was comfortable, even though it kind of hurt, and it couldn't be as bad for him as some people said. "Like wasps and stuff?" He prodded further, hoping it'd be something mean so he'd have a reason to kill it without getting a lecture.

((One little post before I leave heart ))
"Hoppies!"
Wasps? Well, they were interesting, but Aurelia's fascination lay the strongest with the bugs that hopped. Crickets, grasshoppers, or anything else that happened to jump; who knew why? She just liked them. And besides...wasps were too mean to catch without adults helping.
Though really, why did her guardian have to freak out that one time she asked her to help her, when they actually got to the wasp? Didn't she realized the 'grumpy' bug was the wasp?

Now Sjajan was definately no shrimp, although she was indeed a vegetarian, and the girl had shown up at the cookout not with the intention of partaking in the feast, but rather to help cook. Jan loved cooking, and it was one of the most feminine things she did, if you could call grilling feminine, that is.
Still, as usual now that she was her older, stranger self, she was absently looking into the trees and grass and saw... What was that? ... Jack? Oh, yes. The rough little boy. She'd thought she'd heard him earlier, but hadn't gone to investigate. Now, however...
Who was that with him?
Still silent, she untied her apron, and tossed it on a picnic table, leaving the grill to someone else as she approached, also leaving her guitar behind, as she wasn't about to take it near him.
"... Lia?"
She'd grown! But would she remember Sjajan? They'd been SO close as babies, but... Things changed. And she was so pretty! Dropping down to her knees to be at the toddlers' height, she smiled slightly.
"Jack. Nice pig."
She didn't feel dislike nor like for the boy. More an absence of emotion.

Nice pig. That was nice, real nice. Like saying nice chicken wing. "Should be, you prolly cooked it," he retorted, setting his hands on his knees. Turning his attention back to the other, he actually showed a bit of a sincere smile, if only for a second. "Hoppies? They sound fun." If the thing was hopping instead of flying it'd be easier to catch. But maybe he'd let her keep one alive, to be nice. She seemed to like them. But maybe he'd just squish them like he wanted to.

Blinking for a moment, Aurelia only peered at Sjajan. Then the realization dawned. "...Jani? You grew!"
Then with a happy grin, she gave a little twirl - nearly dislodging the four-winged bird that was resting on her head, "I grew too! But not as big as you."
The way she was beaming at the older girl, she definintly remembered her; it was just the change of appearance that confused her at first. So, after Jack agreed to help her, she grinned widely at him. Then she turned her gaze to Sjajan, and spoke eagerly,
"Wanta help us catch hoppies?"

"... Ya... O' course, Lia."
The 'yes' was probably toward both toddlers, but otherwise she didn't really respond to Jack, and reached out a hand to gently touch Aurelia's hair, surprisingly not unsettling the bird. Most animals, and plants if they had emotion, seemed to like her.
The extremely tall girl straightened, and looked down, dark brown eyes cutting over to Jack, a strange look appearing in her gaze before quickly disappearing. Mental shots of him cutting her cheek, leaving the scar that she'd wanted to keep...
Slim fingers rose to her face, tracing the mark as she watched him a moment longer, before she smiled at Aurelia.
"I missed ya."

Hoppies, grasshopers and crickets and stuff like that. He liked those, they were fun to chase. Almost like gophers, except maybe smarter. Gophers and rabbits were fun to catch. Maybe she'd like it if he caught a rabbit? A big hoppie. There had to be one around her somewhere. With that thought in mind, he got to his feet, leaving the remains of the pig on the ground, and started to dart his eyes around at all of the trees and bushes. Any one of them could hide a rabbit, but if he wasn't careful he could scare one off, or find something a little less friendly.
