A Notice

LaVey Sammael and Lamiah Black were once upon a time grand mages, like everyone they made mistakes ones that landed them in a bit of a bind with a lot of people who ended up rather unhappy with them. Push came to shove, the shoving got rather painful for both sides but it was the pair that finally gave. Two couldn't forever stand against many so that left them with a hard choice between two things that felt as if they would feel the same either way. Death or the Sealing of their magical gifts, LaVey was all for giving up his life. Without magic there was nothing, as for his partner it was the exact opposite. Lamiah was a gentle woman, it was her heart that was weak though enough so that she did things she believed were wrong so that she could follow after the one that she loved. In the end it was her gentle eyes, her soft voice, and her pleading that had LaVey change his decision, it was only her that could get through to someone as hardheaded as the grouchy mage.

"It was our fault, we reached far to high and didn't keep an eye on our footing LaVey." She murmured, reaching a hand up to run a finger along the headband that she was currently wearing, it hid what LaVey had no fear in displaying. It was a black marking that looked like a tattoo in the shape of an upside down pentagram. It was a black mark among the community of magic, a symbol of crimes committed.

The man in front of her gave a growl, "It was nothing of the sort. It was jealousy pure and simple, we started to get better then the elders themselves were and they didn't like that." He was convinced that was what it was and it worried her, his thirst for magic that he could only feel but not longer touch was dangerous. She didn't want for him to end up destroying himself over it. It was selfish of her, she knew this but... she just wanted to stay at his side. No matter what.

"We will regain all that we had, these disgusting symbols were put in place by weak people, we need only to find greater power to overcome and destroy them." He murmured, it was hard to tell if he were talking to her or talking to himself. There were times he would go off onto tangents and then realize that he was talking outloud. She reached her hands up to take hold of his cheeks and turned his down so she could look up at him, "Lamiah... We weren't born to be normal people, we are more then that."

"Shhh... at the moment that is what we are." Normal people with black marks on their records... and foreheads, "We have to forge ahead from here and not just to regain what we lost. There is life outside of magic and its something that we have to learn about before we are to even think about trying what you speak of. LaVey please..." It was those eyes, while they were the same color as his that was where similarities ended... her were brimming with emotion which at this moment was pleading with him. She just wanted a moment to rest, to feel safe after all they had gone through. How could he say no to her? She followed him from when they were apprentice nobodies to being the most powerful of their age group to challenging the laws of their sect and to their fall. There was no where she wouldn't go with him so why couldn't he do the same for her?

"Fine, fine. We will take a break, we will rest and recover before we..." He turned to look at the door of the small apartment that they were staying in, giving it a glare. There was someone outside... he gave Lamiah a push to get her moving quickly into the bedroom to hide. While they were marked and thrown out of their sect it didn't mean that everyone wanted to let them off so easily, some thought the punishment that they received was to light and wanted to get rid of them. For this reason was why he was so convinced it was jealousy more then anything that got them in trouble.

He jerked the door opened, ready for a fight... and instead found an envelope stuck to the door. Odd... he plucked it from the door before it was closed and locked once more. He ripped it open and read it over, having to go over it a couple of times before he crummpled it up and threw it... into the waiting hands of Lamiah, "Ah! No! Don't read that..." he hurried forward, trying to get it out of her hands even as she uncrummpled it, turning so that her back was to him and he was trying to reach around her to snag it.

"Ahh! What? A child?" She breathed, yes the letter read of blackmail, hints that whoever wrote it knew their secrets and would tell if they didn't heed what the letter asked for. That Lamiah was blinded to by that one word, 'child'.

"Lamiah..." He murmured, finally getting hold of the letter, "No, no we have stuff to do we can't take on some child..."

"But... a sweet little baby can you imagine LaVey?" She murmured, her eyes seeming to glitter brightly at the thought. Oh but to have a child! It would be so wonderful, she wouldn't even care about loss of her magic if she were able to be a Mommy! LaVey watched her as she seemed to be have a daydream, he waved a hand in front of her face before giving a groan. Oh... come on...

"Lamiah... Lamiah... Gaia is calling for your return... Lamiah!" His voice finally cut through her day dreams and he crossed his arms, "Fine, fine. You get off my back about my smoking and we will agree to what the letter says. Deal?"

She gave him a look, "That isn't very fair, smoking is bad for you..." She said, pouting. So the only way she got a baby was to let him smoke himself into an early grave? Wait... she knew what this was. He didn't think that she would agree so that was why he proposed it, he didn't want the child so he tried to think of a henious deal so that she wouldn't want it either to save him from lung cancer, "Alright, deal."

LaVey gave a choked sound, damn it! It hadn't worked...

"Come on then, lets go and meet our baby!" She said, hurrying off to their room so that she could pack up their meger belongings so that they could be off to D-Corp.

Meeting Valens

Cute! There was no other way in the world and in all the languages that Lamiah knew to describe the little boy that was standing there in front of her but that. He was the CUTEST thing that she had ever seen in all her life! She knelt down in front of the little horse child and held her arms out and open to him, "Hello little one, my name is Lamiah but you can call me Mommy if you like." She said, there was a little crack in her voice, tears in her eyes. LaVey's eyes went wide and he knelt down next to her, wrapping an arm around her soothingly, unsure about why she had gotten so worked up and not sure at all what to say to make it better. His closeness though, something that wasn't normal for him seemed to help to steel her nerves. It were as if she were afraid that the little one would reject her.

It was quite the opposite in fact as the boy rushed forward away from the Labtech that he was with to all but tackle her in his excitement, he had a mother! This was... this was just... a mother! He snuggled against her his long, beautiful tail swishing behind him. When he was closer LaVey was able to get a better look at him, what exactly was he? Kinda like a centaur but not, a horse that was for sure and in a humanoid form, rather like a horse version of a Satyr. Odd looking but the little one smelled faintly of magic, maybe a mage in the making? Or a mage had made him? He looked over to the Labtech, "What... is it?"

"A Clydesdale." He was inform as the guy in the coat lifted up a clipboard to read that off of.

LaVey gave him a look as if to say the man were an idiot, "I can tell that its..."

"He." Lamiah corrected him, standing up with the child in her arms, he was quite tall for his age wasn't he? Must be the sort of blood that he had in him, Clydesdale the man had said. A draft horse breed so it made sense that he was big, meant that he would only get bigger to didn't it?

"Fine, fine. He, what is HE?" LaVey demanded again using the word 'he' so as not to offend either Lamiah or the little child that she was snuggling on, already she had claimed it as her own. Women... their maternal instincts were almost frightening in the fact that they could be dangerous. Cross any mother animal and you could end up paying for it dearly.

"A Clydesdale." The man repeated, hadn't the information been in the note that had been sent to these people when they got summoned here? He gave a sigh as if this were a waste of time that could be better spent doing the job assigned to him, he would explain though as the golden haired guy in front of him didn't look nearly as friendly as his woman did, "A genetically engineered child who has DNA that is both human and horse. Hes one of many, children who are to be paired with dragons since normal humans aren't capable of doing so, then they are trained together."

LaVey lifted an eyebrow, this place had dragons? Many of them? Wait... he looked over to the little horse child. That kid was supposed to get a dragon to train with? He gave a whistle, as a mage he himself was quite interested in such legendary beasts. To think that he was going to be able to see one, maybe more then one? This place might be worth hanging around after all, "I see." Instead of thank you as he wouldn't bother to be so curteous to someone that wasn't Lamiah.

The woman was cooing over her now son and hadn't seem to hear what the Labtech had said about the boy, oh well. He could fill her in later, "Come on Lamiah. We should go and settle into our new place." He told her.

She nodded, "Ahh! We will need to find a name for the little one you know."

"Fine, fine. You pick out the first name of the little horse and he can have my last name." He said, attempting to cheat his way out of helping out with naming the boy. He had no idea what he one was supposed to name a kid, let alone a dragon riding horse child...

"Hmph. If I find him a first name then I will also give him my last name." She told him, walking away from the Labtech and LaVey and returned to loving on her boy.

LaVey rolled his eyes, "Women..." He muttered before following after her.

Finding a Perfect Name

Lamiah was curled up on the couch with a book of baby names with her little horse son laying down with his head on her lap. One had held the book in it while the other moved through his long, dark hair. He was the most adorable thing ever, though oddly enough she was starting to wonder if LaVey were getting jealous of him or something. The dark skinned mage had left several times to take smoke breaks, more so then was normal for him even. She shook her head, he was such an odd man when she offered him all of her attention he ignored her, when she turned her attention to something else he got upset. Men, they were so hard to understand, "I have been through almost this whole book and I have yet to find a name that suits you." She murmured, looking down at her boy.

The little horse rolled onto his belly and then pushed up onto his knees, he leaned over and seemed to be looking the book over though she was sure that at his age he couldn't read yet... could he? LaVey had been rather quick witted when he was younger. Hard to tell though, she watched his eyes closely but it was hard to tell if he were just starring at the words or if he were comprehending them, "Will find." He murmured after a moment then scooted his way into her lap, laying his head on her chest. Dark eyes fluttered closed and Lamiah had to keep herself for hugging him tightly for being so adorable.

"Feh, are you ever going to let him?" LaVey asked as he stepped inside. She glanced over at him then down at the boy, had he crawled into her lap just to try to make LaVey jealous? No... no he was to young to even think of such a thing. Though it would have been funny if he had, mostly cause the look on LaVey was so rare and worth seeing over and over.

"Maybe when I am sure that he was disapear like some sort of dream." She murmured, turning the page in the book, careful not to bother the sleeping horse child.

LaVey walked over and plopped down on the couch next to her, he smelled of smoke and his colonge. Not a bad scent but smoke she didn't think would be the best thing to have when around a child. He really shouldn't do that but as he had been taking his smoke breaks outside she couldn't complain that his habit was going to influence their son, "Found the brat a name yet? Or is that job going to fall to me?" He reached over to snag the book out of her hands and turned to a random page, "Lets see here... how about... Epona?"

Lamiah gave him a look and took the book back, "That means horse, can't you be any more creative? Besides, its a girls name anyway." She said turning back to the page that she had been on when he took the book from her.

"More creative huh? There was Horsa."

"That also means horse only in German instead of Celtic." She said, smacking LaVey in the arm with the book, "a**."

LaVey gave a whistle and a pleased smile, it wasn't often that one could get a curse out of Lamiah, so he was at the moment quite proud of himself. He leaned back against the back of the couch, "Now you can't say though that I didn't help so he can have my last name." He said, grinning brightly.

"He's going to have my last name, I am the Mommy so what I say goes."

"Feh, as if mothers have any say in the least. Its the father that has all the power in a family so if I say that he should have my last name then he should!" LaVey told her matter-of-factly. Then he gave a livid curse as he realized what he had just said...

"Awww! So you have finally decided to take the Daddy role without me forcing you to did you? That so sweet of you LaVey." She said, giving him a soft smile. The looked in her eyes and the upturn of her lips had him melting and he grummbled.

"Fine, fine. I will be the Daddy. Whatever." He muttered, not wanting to argue about that of all things. Especially in front of the kid, to tell a kid straight to his face that he didn't want to be a father wouldn't be very nice. Besides... maybe it wouldn't be so bad? There was a long while of comfortable silence as he thought over all that his new role was going to entail and while Lamiah read over her book murmuring to herself about each of the names that she ran across and how they would or would not suit the child.

"How about Hippos?" LaVey asked, looking over at her straight faced.

She lifted an eyebrow, "That also means horse, now your just doing it on purpose."

"Each? Hros? Alcippe?"

He was hit with the baby name book for each of those names, "Those mean horse, horse, and might mare! Hes NOT a mare!" She said, hitting him again with the book just for good measure, "Brat..."

"Fine, fine. Valens then." LaVey said.

She looked over at him, "Hrm...? Valens?" She closed her eyes a moment, "Valens... strong, vigourous, healthy... I like that." She murmured looking down at the boy in her arms and gave him a snuggle, "My little Valens."

"So that of course means that he gets my last name." LaVey said, smirking.

"No, he gets both. Your name can be first since you picked out his name but mine will be there since your an a**." She said, closing the book and set it aside.

"Deal." LaVey said, he knew when to cut his losses and when to celebrate victory.

Journal
This parenting is a lot different then I had expected, I love it so much! I love being a mother and I love having Valens around. He is such a sweet little boy and so eager in all that he does. He rather reminds me of LaVey in some ways though I would never tell him that. LaVey would no doubt get all grouchy about the idea of having his son following in his footsteps. So far Valens has gotten to meet two others his age, a girl named Zyanya and a boy named Taren. Valens had done well with both of them, playing games with them. I only got to meet one of them, Zyanya and her mother Jayoku. We were talking about taking the two little ones out to get their pictures done which sounds like its going to be far to much fun. The other one Taren and his mother LaVey met while he was out and about with Valens. Yes! Can you believe it? He took him out to play. Its a good sign it means that he wants to be Valens' father! I am so excited. While yes I had a little hand in LaVey taking him out I can't say that I did anymore after that. It was all him.

Journal
Oh dear Gods! What have we gotten into?I lost the kid! I mean the first time that we are left alone together and I lost him! If Lamiah knew she would have skinned me alive... thank the Gods that Silen was around. She distracted the boy with apples so that I was able to catch up with him. It seems that while Valens is around I can't blink. Blinking is bad! Eesh... And then there is that pictures thing that Lamiah was talking about. She wants me to go along to meet Jayoku, another of the D-Corp parents. I suppose that I can go along with them though... eh... is there a reason that I need to be there? Shouldn't Lamiah do it? She would be better off she knows how to do all this parent stuff. I think I am getting... maybe a C- at this. I lost points for losing him, more for smoking in front of him which I got yelled at for later. So... passing though not with flying colors. Should try a little harder at this...

"You know how to spell your name right?" Lamiah asked, holding out a dark pencil to the horse child that sat in front of her.

Valens nodded as he took it and looked down at the paper in front of him, "Name here?" He asked, tapping the first line.

"Yes. Good boy, just write it out and then we will move onto the next line." She told him.

He lowered the pencil to the paper, "Ahh... lets see." He murmured, chewing on his lip, he knew this and had to get it right since his father was sitting nearby and would know if he didn't the note that came with the worksheet had said these things had to be known if a kid wanted to get their dragon egg. His father would let them know if he weren't ready for that he was sure. He knew that he had to get it right the first time around, "V-A-L-E-N-S." He said allowed as he wrote down each word.

"Very good. Next is your age. Do you know how old you are Valens?"

He gave another nod writing down the number, "I'm four." He said, then gave a smile his tail flicking back and forth.

"Good job!" Lamiah praised him, playing with his hair before she looked at the next question, "A little harder this time. What is your favorite color?"

"Ummm... Umm..." He chewed on his lip again as he thought on that, his favorite color... "Ah! R-E-D... well... and... G-O-L-D." He said, looking it over before nodding. That looked write to him.

"Red and gold? Those are very nice colors." Lamiah said.

"What do you like Mommy?" Valens asked, curiously.

"Mmm. I think Green would be my favorite though I do like blue and purple as well."

"What about Daddy?" Valens turned to look over at him.

LaVey looked up at the boy from what he was doing, "Huh? Oh. Black." He said, shrugged then went back to his book.

Valens seemed almost disapointed, black was a borning color it was so dark and... bleh. He liked the black that he had on his face and hooves but that was about it. He looked back to his paper, "Whats next?"

"Ahh, your best friend?"

"Zyanya and Taren!" He said excitedly, then again as they were the only two he had met so far and he had no desire to name which he liked best since that wasn't nice... so he would put down both, "Umm..."

"I will spell them for you first: Z-Y-A-N-Y-A and then T-A-R-E-N." She told him, ruffling his hair.

Valens quickly wrote down the names before he blinked and giggled, "Taren has lots of the same letters as me." He observed looking between the new names. He then got up to his feet, "All done!"

Lamiah clapped for him while he trotted over to hold up the sheet to his father, "See?" He asked.

LaVey looked up and read it over before looking to the boy, "Your 'e's are backwards." He told him then went back to his book.

Valens looked down at them then gave a laugh, "Are they?" Seeming unfazed by the fact that his father had only pointed out what was wrong with the the work instead of encouraging him like his mother had. Lamiah noticed though and threw LaVey a look that had the male squirming a little in his seat.

"Come on Valens we will send this back to D-Corp's head office." She said, going to get an envelope and a stamp to put the sheet back into.
