Maya's choice on using a bow

Maya slowly blinked her bug like eyes scanning the ground below her. Bare feet dangled over the edge of a strangely large tree branch as the young woman took a mid sized bite out of the rather pinkish yellow fruit she held carefully in her hand. Her tongue darted out to lick the sweet juice that ran down her wrist, chewing slowly as she watched a few of the critters below her dart back and forth. It was always such a pleasure to be out and away from the main tree sector where the majority of her sisters were currently enthralled in various tales from the elders. Once in a while an earthling would wander through her vision, her eye twitching to the strange beings.

Placing the fruit in her mouth and biting down making sure to hold it in place, Maya sucked on the juice until she was sure no more would come out. Once she was sure, the young Alkidike scampered down the trunk of the tree to land softly on the rich ground below. Pulling the fruit away from her with a large sucking sound and chewing on the fresh yet partially dry piece she had just removed. Nothing yet seemed to be of interest to the girl as she carefully walked one foot in front of the other, her free hand brushing delicately along the trunks and friendly fungi. The world down here was luminescent and had a vastly different lighting, though at times she much preferred the canopy of the forest to the floor.

Taking the last bite of the fruit that she could, Maya's dark eyes settled on a shimmering gleam not far off. Raising her eye brows curiously the Alkidike pressed through the dense forest floor towards the Menzuri web. The moist air had caused a small amount of condensation to settle on the web causing the slight glimmer making an extremely hard substance a little easier to find. Swallowing her food as she looked around preparing to see the creature, though it didn't seem to have appeared anywhere that she could see. However upon closer inspection she could see it had been abandoned long ago. Perhaps the creature had only needed this for a single meal, or had been killed by something else. As was the typical way of life in the forest. Placing the inedible part of the eaten fruit on the ground, Maya started sifting through a small satchel on her hip. Pulling out a vial looking around the ground for a stick she could use to gather up the web. There was always the possibility that it could contain some mixture left from its maker and as such was sought after by a friend of her's.

Smiling brightly when her eyes located the firm form of her desire she quickly plucked it from the ground. She was right it was full of the poison lingering after a hefty meal had been devoured by the Menzuri. Her smile brightened as she continued to coil the web around the thick stick trying to gather as much of the web as she could without loosing the contents it contained. Trying to hold her nose away from the substance as best she could. She personally didn't like much of the effects this strange substance caused, unless it was during rituals she was expected to attend. One of her older sisters however, enjoyed it quite a bit. Holding the vial up to the now well cocooned stick Maya's lips twisted into a light pout. There was a lot more here than she had expected.

Shifting to place the vial back in her satchel, the young Alkidike bit her lower lip as she struggled to find a piece of cloth to wrap around her discovery. Pleased when her fingers fastened around the leathery material she quickly wrapped it around her cocoon before fishing out a bit of rope from her bag. Those may have been all the materials she had left with but they were certainly everything she would have needed today. Tying the stick to her hips, dark eyes scanned quickly behind her, she could hear footsteps approaching. Not wanting to be caught in any trouble Maya's eyes darted along the trunks of the nearest tree's searching for a route up them. It was easier for her to climb the tree's than it was for her to run along the forest floor.

Having successfully located one no more than a couple strides away Maya darted up the thin trunk settling among the large leaves as she peered down towards the floor. A shifter boy had been walking along the path, her eyes narrowed into daggers before she lept over to another branch. A few leaves scattering down from the branch towards the forest floor alerting the strange earthling. Not waiting to see if he was looking up towards the spot she had once been the wild Alkidike continued her way through the canopy of the trees towards the large emergent tree's in the center of the forest. The center of her world.

After some time had passed and the sun had grown hotter as she peaked out through the top of the treeline, Maya's eyes widened as she quickly remembered the task given to her by one of her older sisters. She was supposed to be gathering fruit for the day instead of daydreaming, her typical past time. Huffing silently as she slipped back into the cover of the leaves Maya darted back the way she had come. There were a fair number of the ripe fruit she had eaten earlier and returning today with not only her given task but with the webbing would help her case with her older sisters.

The fruit locations were easy for her to remember and with arms full of fruit now and a delicate morsel positioned tightly in her teeth Maya only had a chance to glance down before her eyes fell upon the earthling she had seen earlier that day. Was she being followed? It wasn't like this was her first time seeing the strange Earthling creatures but still. Thought's flowed in her head as the frustrated Maya bit harder into the fruit causing it to tumble down. Her attempt to catch the fruit was an even worse choice as even more fruit spilled out from her arms. Silently cursing to herself, Maya took was was left of her spoils for the day and headed home.

It hadn't taken her long to get home, dropping softly onto the ground beside her large home like tree. Her dark eyes glancing nervously behind her as she turned her back to the tree, taking a couple steps back before dispersing out of sight and through a large intricate tunnel below the tree's thick roots. Even here the florescent light from the fungi and crystals shone as she followed the weaving into a large section of the tree were many of her sisters had been sitting there waiting.

"I came back with a little extra." Her soft voice rang out as a couple of her sisters jumped down from their perch to look at the fruit.

"Not much but it will do." The first had said as she came closer. "At least it's better than what you have done in the past." Reaching out she patted Maya carefully on her shoulder sending feelings of warmth through her body. Splitting the fruit between her and the other Alkidike that had lept down with her motioning for Maya and a third girl to follow her.

Exited at having finally pleased one of her older sisters Maya raced along eager to follow, her mind swimming through her days adventures remembering the web she had come across earlier. "Wait, sister!" Tugging the strings around her hips loose Maya's pace quickened as she moved to place herself in stride beside the oldest of the three. "I also found this while I was out." Pulling the cloth off the cocoon like webbing with a bit of difficulty due to its sticky nature Maya quickly produced the Menzuri web. Much to her sisters pleasure and offering it for her to take.

"Menzuri webbing? How did you manage to come across such a rare sight." Sniffing the web her smile brightened. "You have done a marvelous job today Maya, a rare thing for you. The Elders will be happy to see this."

Maya's smile continued as she followed her sister's towards the uppermost area of the tree. A door clouded by strings of beads blocked her pathway further, the older of the sisters was first to speak up as she carefully parted a few strings of beads letting the strange glow cast through the gap. "Elder Kishku, Maya has brought back wrappings of Menzuri web. Its filled with-"

She wasn't able to finish her sentence before the older Alkidike was already at the door way her hands scooping up the bundle into her hands sniffing the object her dark eyes snapping back towards Maya as she did so. Stepping forward in another fluid motion the Elder reached out to take hold of Maya's wrist to which the Alkidike could only think of how to resist before she was roughly pulled into the room.

Maya glanced around in awe as she was led around the room and into a corner and pushed down into a soft thick cushion of pelts. Her eyes followed as the wordless Elder meandered through the room, picking up strange object here and there. Dropping them unceremoniously before Maya as she left to gather more. Twitching her antenna's nervously Maya sifted slowly through the items, or rather, materials. These were all materials for building weapons!

"Elder K-"

Maya was instantly cut off as a finger was placed on her lips signaling for silence. Confused and a little perturbed, the young Alkidike pouted her back slumping for only a moment before Kishku had poked her back into sitting strait. This lasted no longer than a few more moments before the elder had propped herself up on another pile of pelts and fur's across from Maya. The object the energetic woman had gathered lay in a pile between them.

"Now, young prentice. Have you to pick your path of learning yet? Aisha will be proud of her young daughter if you have. If not, let us spend some time together and pick a path for you to travel."

Pride coursed through the young woman, it was a great accomplishment to finally be given the chance to find her path. After this it wouldn't be long until she would be allowed to face the trials in becoming a warrior. Her dark bug like eyes scanned over the object's before her. There was no way she would be balanced enough to run with a sword, not to mention one of her slightly older sister's might take that as a challenge and a deep war could set out between them. She didn't want to go there.

The next few objects were vials filled with unknown substances bowls and various grinding tools. Maya had known from birth she was not gifted in any spiritual sense so those were also out of the question. Pushing the objects she already knew were not going to fit with her skills she continued on. While Kishku raised a curious eyebrow her eyes still watching Maya's hands sift through the items.

Some of these items looked like toys so they too were quickly cast aside. Musical instruments, decorative items of all sorts, a spear, even more knives of various shapes and sizes. Then, there it was a quiver of arrows! Maya's eyes searched through the pile as she pulled out the arrows for the bow that would match. "Elder?" Maya held up the items looking up at the woman's frowning face.

"Your sister broke it when she picked her sword before she was to travel back to Aisha. Are you sure you want to learn the art of the bow?"

Maya nodded much to the change of Kishku's emotions. "Well then" The old Alkidike seemed to vibrate with excitement as she retrieved the spindle of webbing and several long nimble sticks. "Lets make one!" From there she proceeded to wrap an protective object around the spindle of Menzuri webbing and squeeze the venom into a bowl. Once she was sure all the venom had been cleaned out she removed the object from the slightly less sticky webbing and sniffed. Nodding she passed it to Maya.

"Smell this, you will need to learn what a clean web smells like before we get to work."

Doing as she was told Maya inhailed the smell for as long as she could before Kishku pulled it back and started sorting through the long staff like rods of wood. Bending and twisting each one until she had found one she was satisfied with. From there she began her work on building the bow, much to Maya's continued fascination.

Holding the bow in her hands after several long lengths where she was sure she would fall asleep Maya twirled it around, tested the strength of the bow. Pulling it as anyone would pull on a bow for the first time, with not enough strength.

"Go now child. You have your choice. Your test will come soon enough and from there you will learn your art." At that Maya was instantaneously shooed from the room.

If Maya were truthful, though this was not the time to be with her sisters so uneasy in her connections with the shifters. She would have admitted that being asked to explore the waters shore, to gain an understanding for the water and its destiny. was an excitement she didn't with sot miss. One she would have preferred to share with no qualifications. She could understand and appreciate her elder sisters fear of the great flowing water. The young woman was adventurous enough and sufficiently self-confident, perhaps enough to undertake more than she was truly able to. Maya had planned to tell Elder all that she had observed on her last journey through the forest. How she had met a strange and timid Shifter, how she had seen his skin change from light to dark. Though she had not seen him since that morning even though she had gone back to check every morning and evening to be sure. She had even discovered strange Fungi she hadn't seen before and how they were distinguishable from the others by their vines or ripples under neath or the strange color on the tips yet solid color at their core.

Maya was also highly delighted that she had finally chosen a course of battle and learning that seemed to differ highly from her sisters. At least for the current time being. She would probably never be given the chance to change her mind and for now was supposed to carry a prototype with her when she left the tree. Though in her opinion it looked well suited for her. A quiver of arrows was strapped to her hip along with a large satchel containing her book and a few medical ingredients. Four Vials attacked to the outer end of her belt on the opposite side than her quiver. The string of her bow lay across her chest. How well her sister had assessed her circumstances, had seen her chafing from the quiver on her back and adjusted her outfit to match perfectly. Even though Maya had repeatedly told her the way wasn't proper for a beginner to start out wearing their weapons in such a strange fashion.

Maya had often come to the river long before she was told by Elder to make notes of it, despite the other explorations going on around Jauhar. One of her sisters had found the Shifter's tribe and made note of how far away it was from their own tree. Feeling safe it was in the opposite direction Maya had come here almost every morning after checking her spot for the shifter to come for a brief swim to keep her wits sharp.

Dropping out of the tree she had just leapt into on her way to the river, Maya's feet hit the ground in carefully planned places. Crystals of all colors lined the forest floor here and one wrong step and she would pierce her feet. Smiling playfully as she dashed down the large rocks to the water, at the same time she quickly pulled at her belt carefully placing her quiver and items on a higher rock then where she had placed her bow. Tying her dread locks back on her head Maya dove into the water with a rather loud splash. She loved the water, loved swimming, loved the cool freshness as it washed over her skin. Nothing felt sweeter than that very moment every day. Save for the fruit she would eat up in the trees.

Letting the air escape her lungs as she kicked her feet, moving her arms to pull herself through the water. Her bright bug like eyes scanned the bottom before she had to emerge for some air after having emptied her reserve. Breaking the surface was a sweet release, gasping in feeling the cold moist air fill her. Maya's mind floated down momentarily towards the strange wound on her leg. It had healed quite well considering Alkidikes weren't gifted with healing skills, though thanks to the fungi some had worked wonders. Others on the offhand had made her rather sick.

Yawning and stretching Maya could feel the muscled on her shoulders pull, rolling them slightly to alleviate the tension. Pausing half way into bringing her arms back down towards the waters surface. The forest was unusually quiet for this time of day. Not that it wasn't quiet when there were shifters nearby but this was a different kind of silence. The kind where either two things were happening, birth or death. Maya hopped to the great Aisha tree it was birth, what kind of birth however she wanted to know. There were so many creatures out there Maya had no idea what they were yet.

A loud piercing, hissing, scream reached out darkly over the forest sending the young Alkidikes head down towards the water up to her chin. Kipepwa seemed to flutter in flocks away from the tree's to her direct left. Flipped her head up she watched as the miasma of colors above her shifted and turned just before melding into the colorful leaves above them. Something was happening and Maya's curiosity wouldn't let her stand still in the water for long. Swimming to the edge of the water and climbing slowly up onto the rocks the screaming returned, this time shifting into something like a dazed howl.

Trying to keep her breathing even and lower her heart racing as it threatened to pound through her chest, the feeling of adrenalin coursed through Maya giving her a new found sense of the forest. Closing her eyes she focused on feeling ever vibration of the forest around her. However through her panic she seemed unable to clearly focus on the life and vibrations around her. Taking a deep breath, Maya dove back under the water swimming with as much of her strength as she could to reach the shore where your equipment was currently being stored. Hoping that it had not yet been taken by either a stranger or by a beast.

Upon reaching the shore Maya mentally cheer in relief, her items had remained strait where she had left them. Gracefully pulling herself out of the deep rivers water, and onto the stones lining the shore. Maya worked to wring out the heavy water still held fast into her locks, and her clothing before tying her belt of quivers onto her hip. Grabbing up her bow before taking off into the forest towards the strange scream. Her feet swiftly moving over the dark colored dirt below her feet up into the nearest tree before she started leaping through the branches and leaves as quickly as she could.

Pausing her movements when the scream seemed to fade away, her long ears twitched momentarily as she struggled to find the source. Her head shifting from side to side, slipping her bow over her shoulders straining to hear something, anything in the silence.

There it was, a small cry much softer and yet much more fervent than the one that had been there before. It was also only a few paces ahead of her. Jumping forward a few more tree's Maya dropped down a few branches her eyes scanned about tentatively. There wasn't anything she could see in her immediate vision until she dropped down one more branch. There she could see the start of a menzuri web yet it had movement and very weak calls stretched out from it, curious to what had been caught in it Maya froze.

There trapped within the sticky and toxin filled web of the insect struggled a rather large reptilian beast. It's tail had been tangled in the webs proof that it had struggled hard using her tail, though her muzzle seemed to be just as trapped. Its two front paws were stuck up against its muzzle but that wasn't the Menzuri that had caused the Alkidike to quickly turn her gaze from the struggling creature. It was a pool of liquid that seemed to lead to a trail, though it was thicker much further away leading off to what Maya heard were two more small cries. With her curiosity taking the better of her judgment, Maya did her best to slink away from the branch without upsetting its balance and ultimately calling forth the Menzuri. She would have to remember the web for a later time. Now was not that time.

Once free of the natural course of life between a Radaku and the Menzuri, Maya slipped from the branch hanging on with just her hands before dropping down to the ground with a crouch. She had heard strange rumors about the rare creatures from her Elder but she had never expected to come across the sight that now flooded through her bug like eyes. A small litter of three babies lay crying weakly around the roots of a young tree. Maya had never come across the rare sight before and they didn't look to be all that old either. They had to have been newborn from what she could tell.

Looking around, her eyes suddenly snapped back towards the Menzuri web. That Radaku back there must have been the babies mother. It was a crashing feeling of pain that coursed through the young warrior woman as she crouched low to the ground her eyes shifting about as they fell on a dead baby not far off. There was no way these rare creatures would be able to survive without help of some sort. That and because they were so rare she couldn't help but wonder if they would make a good meal if they were fattened up and older.

Shifting her body to sit down and pulling her knees to the ground on either side of her body Maya leaned forward her fingers carefully gliding over the small beasts hides. "There, there." She crooned lifting the first and weakest one up into her hands. "I wont -" She stopped when the small creature bit into her finger, she could feel the blood drip from the small cut and was curious when the creature licked it before settling back down. A strange rush of protective emotions seemed to send a shiver down the Alkidikes spine as she placed the creature between her legs. Reaching out for another one to pull close, this one didn't bit her though seemed to almost give a soft Mewl. Placing that one down beside its sibling Maya reached out pulling up the other two with her.

They felt colder than the first two had though one was obviously dead and the second seemed to beam with life. Shaking her head she nestled them all together near her body swinging her right leg around to create a protective nest for the babies to rest in. Hopefully to help them gather some heat as she started searching through her satchel for her cloth and rope. Picking up the one that had bit her first Maya promptly placed that one in the bag as it seemed to be the weakest and less likely to make it. Picking up the other two live Radaku Maya rose to her feet with one in each arm.

Huffing as she glanced up at the trees then back down to the small bundles in her arms. "Now how am I going to get you three back to the tree? Back home?" Smiling when the liveliest one pipped up with a soft growl.

Shifting through her head as she started walking back home Maya paused, shifting the quieter one to her other arm before placing them both on the ground and fetching the rope she held in her satchel. tying loops around the two babies necks and then under their legs around their chest and once more under their tails Maya had made a harness for the two not in her bag. Once that was done she quickly placed the rope over her shoulder opposite the bow before checking the one in her bag. At least now it seemed to be warming up slightly and that seemed to give Maya some hope. The two hanging by the rope seemed to be less happy with the way they were being transported by soon calmed down when Maya began walking again.

"Don't worry, I'll get you three home and everything will be ok." Reaching up the young woman pulled herself up into the tree, shifting the way she moved as to take special care of the bundles she was carrying before taking the leaps through the trees. Her balance wasn't as perfect as she would have liked and there were times when she was sure she would loose it and fall to the ground. Surprisingly though the need to protect and keep the one in her bag alive seemed to be more pressing matter, and she had reached her home tree before she had realized it.

Pausing once again she called out to her sisters as they lay up in the branches. Though only Elder Kishku responded when she emerged from the roots of the trees.

"Elder, I found something strange in the forest today. They look like Radaku pup's. Is that what these are?"

Kishku pulled the rope from the Prentice Alkidikes shoulders a hand rubbing her chin as she laid the two on the ground. "You can't very well have killed these yourself. If you had the mother would have killed you. If the mother would have attacked you would have brought her instead of these meager things."

The words stung as they etched into Maya, what did she mean by dead. No, when she had first got them they were still very much alive! "Elder." Maya pleaded softly immediately going to her bag in hopes the final of the three where still alive though Kishku grabbed her bitten hand before she could check the last pup.

"You were bitten by one!" Her eyes reaching up as she searched the wound then Maya's eyes. "You silly girl! where is the one that did this to you. I can't believe its one of these two. You would have taken better care of your bonded one."

Maya scrunched both her eyebrows and her eyes as she tried to understand what her Elder was saying before producing the third for Elder Kishku to see. "How did you know Elder, that I would have a third."

"Because." The old Alkidike started, "Because once I had met an Alkidike who had found one of these loyal beasts, it had bitten her as well and bonded to her. Such strange sights these." Grabbing up the two dead Radaku and dropping into the roots of the tree's beckoning for Maya to follow she lead the girl up into their sanctuary. Where they kept most of their fruit nuts and meat.

"Thankfully these ones eat a strict diet of fungi and meat." Picking through the storage, Kishku produced a dull colored fungus holding it out for the strange baby creature. Before stuffing it into Maya's hands and motioning for her to offer it to her. "Name her too, helps you feel closer."

It seemed odd to Maya that Elder Kishku was supporting her having a small charge to care for. Something about how it would help her growth in the future though at the time Maya had no clue what she meant. Offering the morsel of food to the Radaku Maya blinked. "Pacju." She muttered when the baby seemed to scarf down the food offered. Looking up to see Kishku's back as she headed up the stairs towards her room.

The strange horns on the beasts head seemed to pick up a strange glow after the creature had found its fill of food. Awestruck and yet not wanting to share her new companion with her sisters, Maya seemed to fly up the stairs towards her room. Opening the door quickly stepping inside and closing it once again behind her. Placing her small bundle on the ground and opening the cloth to allow the small creature room to move Maya was ecstatic when Pacju came to nuzzle up against her leg lovingly. It would end up being a new charge and a new responsibility but Maya was sure she would be able to handle it well.

Maya laughed again as she slipped between a pair of trees growing close together, dove below a few mushrooms, and even raced by a rather bright pink flower fast enough to leave the petals shaking and a few parted to follow her. Part of the race, one that they never actually mention and yet always include regardless, was also to be more impressive with the racing path. The closer to obstacles they came or the more they weaved in and out of tight spaces, the better. She was getting mildly out of breath by this point due to the distance covered and the weaving, but she wasn't quite ready to give up and let her sister win.

Since becoming a blade, Maya was constantly being pushed by the eldest of the four girls that lived with their current Elder in their home tree. Pushed to become faster, pushed to hit harder. It had once been Dyakida who pressed against Maya's abilities to their limits in hoping to expand them. Now it was impossible for Dya to leave the vicinity of home tree. At least, that was what the other two sisters thought. Maya had picked up on some of her younger sisters tricky thinking and when she was goaded into a race. Her favorite game. She reacted by racing around home tree in a circular motion, expanding the circumference the longer the race wore on. This way if Dyakida left the tree for any reason Maya would be certain the area was clear.

"Wait." The clear sound of her sister stopped Maya, tripping her as she was about to leap to the next branch. Instead she fell down two before regaining her posture.

"What?" Maya snapped ready to join her sister who had fallen behind and see what the disturbance to their race had been. The young Alkidike wanted to get this over with so she and Pacju could end up back at the river as she did every morning. She hated having her morning routine uprooted like this.

Once she had managed to join her sister a few paces back, Maya silently dropped down onto the same branch. Niebet pressed a finger to her lips and pointed silently down to the forest floor. Maya followed with her dark bug like eyes, her antenna's twitching nervously as she pulled her bow from her shoulder and began reaching for her weapon.

The figure on the ground was short and slim, yet shrouded in a dark almost black cloak.

"Do you think its an earthling?" Maya breathed to her sister glancing over to find her gripping her sword tightly in her hand.

Niebet nodded her eyes narrowed as she started down at the earthling below them. "To close to home tree." She wordlessly mouthed. Maya crunched her nose as she fit the arrow into her bow. Slowly drawing the string back so she wouldn't make a sound.

Normally Maya would let the earthlings on their way, even speak with them from time to time. Neibet on the other hand would kill them in an instant. She was a merciless warrior. The only thing the earthling had done wrong was venture to close to their hidden home. Scanning the cloaked figure Maya determined he wasn't from Sauti as there were no sharp bumps on the shoulders. Gripping the weapon tighter, Maya watched carefully.

Below the figure seemed to continue on a strait path, like a determined course. Towards home tree. Loosing the arrow is soared towards the unknown earthling, wizzing past his ear and landing in the earth in front of it. Neibet scoffed turning to Maya and smacking her from the back of her head. "What did you do that for, now he knows were are here!"

"No he knows in here and he shouldn't travel any further on the path." Maya corrected vigorously dropping down a branch or two. "I want to find out why he's here before shooting him." The growling sound of her agitated sister followed her as she approached the earthling from behind a tree. Her bow still held tightly in her hands for easy access.

Walking out from behind a tree into the open, Maya wasn't surprised to see the earthling pause in his tracks and stare her down. "Show your face" Maya demanded her eyes blazing. She had not encountered a leaf before exept on the strange adventure to discover both Sauti and Zena. Even then, she had very little contact. She knew her tribe, the shifters, she had even met a dashing wind tribesman so there was no way he was someone she would know.

A deep laugh boomed about as the pale skin of earthling hands reached out to remove his hood. Maya could feel an almost sudden distaste as is slowly crept into her mouth. The way he carried himself, the way he watched her, it was wrong. All wrong! "So you're one of those Alkidike women." His tone was almost mocking. The sound of Niebet in the tree above alerted Maya of the Alkidikes presence though her eyes were still focused on the earthling as he spoke.

Blinking Maya didn't say anything as she continued to stare down the earthling. Did he have some sudden death wish? Why was he not taking the hint and leaving? The smile that played across his face was still unnerving to Maya her hand clearly poised over her quiver ready to draw an arrow at the first possible opportunity.

That seemed to be a trigger the stranger had been waiting for, laughing as he drew his cloak back to reveal a thick well crafted blade. Pulling it from its sheath as if here were drawing a twig from the water he lunged forward towards Maya.

Taking the opportunity for action Maya's hand raced instantly towards her arrows the tallest one filling her hand as the twang of her string answered the call and the arrow pushed forward cutting through the air. The arrow struck the string holding the cloak to the earthling and letting it fall unhampered to the forest floor. From under the cloak several bags here held on his back and hips. He swung again at Maya who bent back nearly dodging the blade as she shifted, her feet connecting with the spot just below his knee crippling his movements before leaping back twice to make sure she was out of range.

Neibet who had been resting in the tree above sheathed her own weapon staring down at the fighting pair below. If Maya managed to kill this earthling she would end up having to rethink her weakness towards the ungrateful creatures. Maybe there was something more buried deep within the Alkidike than she wanted to admit.

Another well aimed strike ripped through the cloth about Maya's waist and hissing as she landed a foot back from her leap, the young Alkidike reached for another arrow watching as it struck the earthling piercing his neck. Watching as he crumpled to the ground. Her breathing was coming in fast and shallow as she stared at the man. She wasn't going to approach him but she was sure she could hear hissing words of 'so they are strong' leave him. Followed by the a thudding sound as Neibet dropped to the ground on the other side of the earthling.

"Good mine as well claim his items and leave him, Pacju would love food right."

Maya's eyes glinted as she wordlessly shot her sister a warning. "Pacju will never touch human flesh. It's the saddest thing I killed him. He didn't have to die." Though she was saddened by the death somewhere inside Maya felt pride at her accomplishment. She had taken on a fight without the help of an ally, her Radaku, or her sister and she had won.

"Yes yes." Neibet muttered as she reached down plucking the cloak from the ground and tossing it at Maya. "But it would be a waist if we didn't use his item. Who knows there could be some amazing things in there."

Maya pursed her lips before joining her sister at the earthlings corpse, watching as she sifted through various pockets. Food, medicine jewelry, weapons, all spilled out from bag after bag as they were emptied. Reaching forward Maya plucked out a few things before her eyes settled on a well padded bag. Opening it the young Alkidike let out a soft gasp. "I'm keeping this one."

"What is it." Neibet insisted as she shoved a piece of cooked meat into her mouth.

"Just an egg." She watched as her sister shrugged off and started repacking all the items again save the ones Maya had picked out.

"Fine, I'll take the rest of this back to home tree." Watching as her sister left Maya followed behind at a slower pace. She could hear movement from within the shell she was cradling like an infant in her arms.

Maya's head throbbed when she woke to the faint sound of noise traveling up the trunk from below her. She knew time was drawing near to make the annual return to their mother, their deity, their everything. She had felt the time drawing closer not by the change of the seasons or by the number of times the fungus around the forest grew brighter signalling the pass of the sun and the birth of the moon. It was more instinctual and primitive that seemed to drive her at least, raising her hand to her head and licking her dry lips Maya grunted as she pulled herself out of the bed.

Pacju who had been soundlessly watching Maya with curiosity mixed with concern whined but didn't rise. She knew how independent Maya was, and supporting her in the tree was seen as a weakness so she had learned to patiently wait for the right moment. To wait until Maya would give the command to follow. Which never took her to long to do and the Radaku always rose with quickened speed after her companion.

Stumbling towards the door with a quick glance towards the carefully nested egg Maya gathered up her satchel before making her way down the inside of the trunk she and her family called home. Licking her dry lips again as she emerged into what had commonly become the meeting place, she was more surprised to find Elder Kishku standing among her three sisters with instructions.

Maya wasn't surprised to find the eldest paid her little attention but smiled at the others, at least everyone seemed to be themselves. Perhaps she was the only one feeling the urge. This had been their first full year away from home, and Maya had never experienced the great calling before since she had always rested safely in her mothers boughs. Clearing her throat to gain attention Kishku turned abruptly to Maya a large grin on her elderly face.

"There you are! We were starting to worry if you would wake." Pressing a sack into Dyakida's hands the Elder Alkidike blinked quickly, eager to be heading outside the tree.

"Speak for yourself, we would have just left you behind anyway."

Maya placed on a stoic face as she brushed off Niebet's words. Her headache was painful enough not to respond to her sometimes caustic sister. If the other sisters had spoken up then Maya didn't seem to pay much attention shuffling over to a barrel to pick out a ripe fruit and promptly devoured before searching out a skin of water. Once that had been recovered and downed Maya seemed to brighten almost instantly.

"Are we heading home?"

"Depends on you're term home. You are standing in your home." The snark comment was once again received with stoic emotion from Maya. This just wasn't the morning for it!

Thankfully before Maya was able to grit her teeth Kishku replied with even more energy than the aged woman produced on a regular basis. She was more exited to return home than any of them. After a few moments of checking Dyakida Maya beamed outwardly. Feeling guilty for her sister's blind condition caused by Maya's determination their previous home between now and Aisha had cost her so much. She hoped whatever lay ahead that she at least was strong enough to face the rest of her sisters.

Maya wasn't the first out of the tree, with Kishku's seemingly frail body darting about as if she were no more than a child emerging from the lotus for the first time. The strong blade couldn't resist catching onto the strong energy the elder produced, Maya joined in the fast climb up into the tree's. The group seemed to travel faster in the tree's than they did on the ground, it wouldn't be hard for them to find food on their journey towards Aisha and Maya felt confident good things would come about.

Several days seemed to pass within moments in Maya's eyes, despite strange events and the passing of other slightly more hostile Alkidikes. Who Maya had deemed where only in such a mood because they too felt the pull from Aisha too and weren't as happy to return. Though Maya herself couldn't understand why. Chibar Island was in view and so were the spacious and glimmering leaves that would soon be filled with lotus flowers. Most of the flowers were the same color, the very same she had emerged from herself. Once in a while, there was an odd colored lotus that would emerge and the rest of the tribe would shun it.

Maya felt pity for those flowers, born into a world shunned. She had shunned as an early child herself, imitating the actions of the older Alkidikes. She was starting to regret her early childhood actions, especially considering the recent tribes she had met and friends she had made within those tribes. She was grateful for having met them. Smaller than she was yes but she was grateful, they proved excellent healers, trackers, fighters. Obviously not as powerful in physical strength than Alkidikes but that didn't mean they couldn't measure up. She had even saved an earthling baby for the tree's sake.

Had the same thing happened here, Maya was sure she would fall under the pressure from her sisters and allow the pure earthling child to fall to whatever fate the creature's had intended for it. Feeling guilty for not doing anything the rest of her turns breathing. Maya shook her head absently, feeling her dark dreads and the tips of her antenna tap the sides of her face. She had to stop thinking about the earthling child.

The arrival to Chibar had somehow separated her from her sisters and Maya could feel the hour drawing closer. The ritual would begin soon, all she could do now was hope Kishku and or Briella were watching over Dyakida. She knew without a doubt Niebet would have turned on her the moment they returned and were within range of the Island itself.

Taking quick almost leaping strides towards Aisha's great trunk Maya placed her hand on her trunk. Closing her eyes as she felt the welcome form in her mind. Maya was tearful, not because she was in pain or saddened by past events. It was because she was pleased beyond measure to be home again, she wanted so much to tell Aisha everything that had happened. To confide in her all the secrets she held close as she had done so much when she was a child.

As the ritualistic ceremony came and went Maya felt as if her energy had not yet been completely drained by the time the sun had fallen. She had a driving need to make sure her close sisters were ok. A strange instinct that would quickly be frowned upon by her other sisters, but they were also her best friends. She couldn't leave them to fend for herself.

Wandering around Aisha endlessly in search of something, anything that would lead her back to Dyakida and Briella Maya sighed helplessly. No one seemed to remember seeing them. perhaps it was because Maya had not been specific enough about them? A soft calling voice seemed to reach out to the Alkidike Blade as she passed near the trunk for the umpteenth time that night. The voice was impossible to forget and even harder to ignore, placing her hand lovingly on Aisha to signal she was listening she could not have been prepared for what followed.

The lotus flowers had begun to bloom in the great tree's branches and among the leaves. Following the instructions Maya found herself standing in front of a very unique lotus. It didn't contain the usual soft pink hue the rest of them did. It was so different, so vastly different, as if, it were the flower of a half breed. Maya turned immediately back to her mother, confusion, and desperation filled her heart. She had not approached her for the lotus, she had not brought a mate to plead with her, Aisha must have been confused.

The gentle guidance was meant to reassure the flighty Alkidike as Maya tried to explain over and over that a mistake had been made. She wasn't the lotus' mother. She could feel the mirthful laughter from Aisha fill her, as if telling her the exact actions she were taking were that of pleading. When those emotions filled her Maya found her pleading futile. Turning towards the flower she carefully stroked the delicate surface.

This was now her lotus, and as such her child. She wanted to ask more of Aisha, to know why she had been chosen to care for the lotus when there had to be mother's here on Chibal island waiting for it to bloom. All she felt inside was a pressure not to ask any more questions, that information was no longer relevant the lotus was her's to take care of.

Maya's head sagged against Aisha, her dark bug-like eyes staring up at the leaves and branches. She had returned to Aisha after spending some time back at home. Closing her eyes, Maya's mind wandered back to the strange events that had occurred back at home. She couldn't believe the events that had occurred, but she really should have seen it coming. Sighing, Maya rolled her eyes in exasperation. The large lotus blossom of Aisha sat on the branch in front of her. Rubbing circles on the petals with her toe, Maya drifted off into memories.

The journey home had been surprisingly easy. Her Radaku greeted her warmly. Pressing her muzzle into Maya's shoulder, she had let out a soft whine. Sniffing her for signs on where she had been. Maya pulled her hand up to rub Pacju's fur behind her horn. Smiling when the creature's muscled relaxed. Her rump dropping to the ground. "I missed you too, Pacju." Maya mused, staring up at the great tree. Her tree, her home, her escape. Home tree. "Has Neibet been O.K. here, she hasn't picked on Dyakida or Briella to much as she?" Raising her other hand to stroke her Radaku's muzzle. Pacju whimpered in response. So that had been a no, as Maya understood her companion. Maya had almost expected as much,. Tugging on one of her long dreads, Maya headed for the entrance to the great home she shared with her sisters. Ducking down below the roots and twisting her body until she was safely inside. Pacju followed close behind her. She had smiled upon discovering no one would notice her arrival until much later in the day. Rushing up the tree Maya felt relief flood through her, NO one had tackled her yet. Pushing past the hides covering the entrance to her room. The light cast by her fungus filled the room. A special calmness settled around her. Dropping her quiver and bow to the floor, Maya covered the distance around the room. Falling into her hammock with a content sigh escaping her lips. Thoughts drifted towards her Mother Aisha. Of the strange experience and the small blossom waiting for her there. What was she going to do now? She couldn't leave home tree, her heart would break leaving her Elder and Sisters behind. Maya also wanted to raise her youngling around her sisters. Maybe not quite Neibet, but the others she cared for and as such wanted her child around them.

Rolling over she patted her companion Radaku's head, as she came to settle by Maya. Her mind still wandering. If she brought the youngling home to Home Tree, she would need to build a new room for it. Sitting bold up , her hair beads clacked. Where was she going to built it? It wasn't like the large tree was filled, quite the opposite. There were plenty of space for her to build what ever she may have wanted, whenever she wanted. They way everything was located, Neibet and Kishku were located at the top of the hallowed part of the tree. Which only seemed to reach up half way through the tree's trunk. Dyakida and Briella occupied the middle, while Maya herself occupied the bottom. Below was their storage and entrance. Maya loved her room where it was. She had always found it easier to sneak in and out without being noticed. She had dodged her elder sister several times this way. Once Maya's thoughts and settled on Neibet, she found herself flaring up towards the location of her room. Maya felt a maternal need to protect her youngling. Swinging her legs to plant her feet on the cool wood below her hammock.

She would need to keep her child's room close to her. Just in case anything happened. Turning towards the opening to her room Maya froze. Something inside her warned against leaving the opening her new younglings room unguarded. Maya found herself suddenly frantic over the blossoms well being. She searched her room until an idea had formed. Staring down at the blank piece of wood, Maya sighed. Her youngling would be able to fend for herself or himself once it had grown old enough. However for now she needed to protect it while the child was still young. The best way to guard the new member, Maya thought, would be to do so herself. Narrowing her eyes on the wall Maya smiled. She could link the small ones room to her own. With an opening only Maya would be able to reach for the time being. That way while she was deep asleep, Pacju would always be alert enough to protect her. Maya was sure no silly Alkidikes would be able to sneak by her. No one could cause her child harm this way.

The idea was brilliant! She could always make and opening to the rest of Home Tree, after the youngling was older. At least old enough to fend for itself. Excitement flooded her system. Trying to keep herself centered Maya gathered up an arrow from her quiver. Moving quickly towards the spot on the wall she had originally spotted. Stabbing her arrow into the wall Maya began carving out the outline of the opening. Standing up once she had reached the end at the floor. Reaching up she touched the end of one of her antennae. Now all she had to do was find her materials again in order to build on the room.

Dashing out past her room's opening and back to the area below her room. Maya started rummaging through the barrels and boxes in search of materials to build the new room with. Secretly hoping her sisters weren't home in order to listen to the scratching noises. Three barrels later she had located the items she set out to find.

Spinning Maya's heart plummeted. Neibet was standing inside the entrance to Home Tree.

"Back already?" Neibet's tone was sharp and accusatory.

Maya smiled briefly. "Yes sister I'm home."

"For how long." Folding her arms across her chest, sticking her right leg out Neibet was determined to glare Maya down.

"For a little while." Maya shrugged bending down to collect a few remaining items. "Then I'll be heading back to Aisha."

"The Ritual isn't for a while. I can't see you, just taking off again and again for no reason. I understand it being a call of our Elders but why return when the Ritual isn't even near?"

"It's near enough some have started to gather, besides, I have someone waiting for me there." Maya swallowed a growing lump in her throat. Was now going to be the time she would break the news to Neibet?

"A lover?" Hurt seemed to creep into Neibets voice as she spoke.

Maya blinked twice, as she stared at Neibet. Trying to figure out what was going on in her older sisters head. Neibet seemed upset Maya left at long periods of time without here and now. Was upset at the very thought of her having a lover? Was it possible Neibet was in love with her? No! Neibet wanted to be the leader, she wanted Kishku's status and Maya's relations with her sisters. That was it wasn't it? "Not a lover Neibet. Whatever it is, I'll love it."

Silence held between the two like a thick hide. Impenetrable. Shifting Maya made a move towards the door. "It?" Neibets voice softened. "Have you pleaded to great Aisha for a youngling?"

Pausing Maya turned her head back towards her sister. "In a way, yes, I pleaded with Aisha." Hurt seemed to flash all over Neibets face. Maya couldn't help but feel sorry for her sister. If she loved her in that way, Maya was unable to return the affections. Unlike the majority of her sister's, the blade preferred the male earthlings above all else. Feeling uncomfortable with the exchange Maya turned to look back towards her room. "I'm building it a room now. I don't know when Aisha's lotus will bloom and I want to be there when it does."

Turning Maya dashed back up to her room. Her heart racing she had to be reading the signals all wrong. She had to be! Gripping the materials closer to her chest Maya set to work on accomplishing her goal.

Carving out a room for her new Youngling.

Sounds of laughter broke through Maya's memories. Blinking twice to focus on whatever she had been staring at Maya smiled. Above her another a few lotus' were starting to bloom. Some had been children belonging to mother's, while others seemed to belong to Aisha herself. Smiling she stretched her legs out farther, her eyes floating down to where her own lotus lay. Folding her arms behind her head, silently thanking her great mother for having the knowledge to grant her a child. She would have to trust in Aisha that she was going to be the right match for it. Male or Female this child was going to depend on her once the flower opened. She would have to defend it tooth and nail, especially with the powerful and deadly looks she was getting from some of her older sisters came her way.

Closing her eyes and taking in a deep breath Maya's shoulders squared. She had a plan in action. If the child born wasn't a pure Alkidike she would immediately whisk it away back home. Protect it from the scorn before the fragile youngling's mind could be hurt.

Maya's Antennea twitched, her body jerking with the resonating movement within the lotus. It had been happening frequently over the course of the last day. Maya knew it was a signal announcing the lotus blossom was almost ready to case aside it's petals. To reveal the youngling inside. She listened carefully. Her attention was riveted on the fragile youngling to be. Her head snapped around protective. SHe wanted to know if any of her sisters were around. If there was anything around that could hurt her little one. The silence was welcomeing. Without another stir of life, Maya let her mind return to wandering. It had been doing that alot lately. Closing her eyes her mind returned to the brief events back home.

After having successfully escaped her awkward moment with Neibet, Maya had returned promptly to her room. Her heart racing with what felt like a million jumps a minut. Sucking in a deep breath through her nose. Holding her breath for a count of three. Everything held in her arms, crumbled to the floor with her emotions rising. Slowly letting out the air in her lungs, letting it fly past her lips. Walking over to Pacju, Maya wrapped her hands around the Radaku's neck. Falling to her knees she pressed her face into Pacju's neck. "What have i gotten myself into?" She asked tyring to stuff back tears that threatened to spill out. Her companion remained still. After some time had passed maya was finally able to pull herself back together. Returning the materials to her arms Maya started working on the carving into the wood. All her fusterations spilled into her work.

A soft noise, followed by Pacju's growl alerted Maya to someone's pressence in her room. Startled Maya emerged from the small hole she had carved so far. Squaring her shoulders Maya found herself looking at Neibet. "What is it now Neibet?" Maya questioned, rubbing her hands together. Hoping to dislodge the buildup of saw dust, her black bug like eyes flashed dangerously. A warning for Neibet not to press her luck.

Neibet grimmanced. "I wanted to know what you were up to? You're making so much noise and Kishku doesn't want you signalling the Shifter's to our home." Neibet bent to the side attempting to peer past Maya into the small hole she had carved out so far. "Are you trying to make a large place for your beast?"

"That's for me to know, and you to..." Maya shrugged. There really was no need to explain herself. She had already told Neibet about the lotsu. Neibet had started acting strange then and she wasn't about to let it start up again. Turning back to her work Maya was stopped by Neibets hand on her shoulder. Her muscled tensed in responce. Spinning around as Pacju's growl intensified. "Let go of me before you get hurt."

Neibet froze her eyes on the radaku. Removing her hand slowly, careful not to antagonize Maya's Radaku companion further. "I have a gift for you." Maya softened but remained defensive.

"Did you bring the antidote that goes with it?" Silence once again held in the air. It was starting to become a frequent havit for their exchanges. A hurt look flashed across her face.

"Fine! You don't want it I don't care." With that, Maya's strange Alkidike sister stormed out of the room. Pacju's growl stopped. Thankful her hides had remained in tact over the door after Neibet's departure. Maya crawled back to work. Time passed. the young Alkidiek paused. The calm energy back in her room seemed to change. Kishku now stood there. She was carefully examining the Kinfa egg. Maya had carefully rested on the shelf. A few barretts lay next to the small nest. A cloak hung on a peg beside the door. Maya's hammock located beside the opening she had been working on. In the center of the room a woven nest of leaves, Tigs, and roots. A few bones from fish and other strange critters were on the edge closest to the door. That was hwere Pacju slept every night. Fungus filled shelves that had been carved into the wood. Other more mysterious plants hung drying from the smooth roof overhead. In Kishkus hand was one of her arrows.

Something winced inside Maya. She loved the strange Elder, she did. Sometimes he could be just a bit on the irritating side. "Maya, Love isn't given only when someone is lovable. It should always be give, Have you forgotten such importance core values!? Aisha taut us these things many times before we left. Neibet loves you, far more than as just a friend, she loves you with her whole being. Her entire self. No Greater thing could she give you, all of you. Yet you all respond negatively, very negatively towards her." Pausing and turning to look at Maya, Elder Kishku continued to spin the arrow around between her fingers. Pausing to look strait at Maya before continuing on. "I want to speak to you first, because you are the second oldest Alkidike here aside from Neibet and myself. Though I don't count, as I'm far to old. You need to be a better role modle for your two sisters. They follow you lovingly, Do they not?" Kishku's eyes bore into Maya, her dark eyes full of questions.

Maya shook her head, "I'm not sure Elder Kishku. They act like they know what others are thinking, feeling, or buried deep inside. But they are almost always wrong! I've learned not to guess or perceive them."

She watched as her Elder lapsed into thought, the arrow still spinning in between her worn fingers. Stepping from foot to food eager to return to work Maya paused. Kishku had made a move to speak gain her voice trembled with confusion. "Neibet tells me, you have a lotus waiting for you back within Aisha's bows?" Maya nodded her face flushed. "You are a very lucky Alkidike Maya." There are many Alkidiek sisters who would plead with our great Mother to grand them such a gift. I even tried once to ask Aisha for a daughter. I was declined. Did you know Neibet tried the same thing? She too was denied. As happy as Neibet is... She hurts at the reminder of not having been successful in proving to Aisha she could raise a child. Something so precious. It makes her angry."

Maya continued to shift uneasily from one foot to the next. "Elder Kishku, the lotus wasn't my choice. Aisha told me that I need to protect it. So I will go and do what she asked. Once the room is done I will leave right away. Head back to Aisha. I wont be coming back until after the youngling is given to me."

"I bet she will be as beautiful as you are, right now." Maya paused at Elder Kishku's words. Nodding to hank her and watched as the Elder Alkidike replaced the arrow into it's intended quiver. She hadn't thought about it before but she had no idea if the unborn youngling was even a full Alkidike. and if not. Was the small one even a girl? Was it possible the youngling was a boy? With a strange physic like some of the half breeds around Aisha? She would need to thin of a name for the child soon. Watching Elder Kishky, Maya returned to a nearly complete room. She only knew female Alkidike names. Desperatly hoping the youngling to be would turn out female. Looking aorund the room with awe. Her work looked splendid! All she had to do now was find ohides to build the bed and door coverings. Turning to Pacju who had settled in her nest during the Alkidikes interaction. Maya beamed, it was time to go out hunting. With her needs she could also cut down her sister's work load, and save them the hunting trip into the forest. If she wasn't to so pressed for time, there was every possibility, that she would even smoke and salt the meat for them too.

Gathering up her materials Maya shot out of her room as quickly as she could. Pacju bolted after her sticking close to the Alkidikes heals. Both Alkidike and Radaku felt most alive when they were able to hunt. Once outside in the forest air Maya pulled herself up onto the large beasts back. Pulling out her weapons, and sucking in a deep breath. Maya leaned forward patting Pacju's soft neck to signal she was ready. The pair took off, lunging through the forest with incredible speed.

The lotus was twitching, no longer only moving from within. Maya watched intently, Her mind racing as she placed a piece of salted meat into her mouth. Savoring the flavor. She had been successful in her run and after skinning her kills and leaving enough meat behind to feed Pacju until the large Radaku's stomach came close to bursting. It had been grumbling extensively over the past day, so Pacju had eaten the offered meal viciously. Afterwards she had left some for Dyakida, but as always lately, the blink Alkidike and the youngest sister were no where to be found. Maya had felt relief. Like a burden had been lifted from her tired shoulder's upon the events. She had once wondered why she had felt that way, But it had later become clear to Maya that Dyakida and Briella spent more time together than Maya had with Dya. She didn't blame them. Maya was really gone more often than she was home these days. Running to tale, Sauti, discovering Zena. Fighting monsters meeting new friends, and becoming a blade where only the small things on the surface that Maya had been out and about doing. They were the most momentous moments to her in her life. She had tried to talk to her sisters about it. Though even when she tried she had felt like they were acting like they were interested in a way that made them seem fake. At least, that's how Maya had perceived them to be. They seemed fake when it came to her, she doubted she was right about their thoughts, she wasn't in their heads, she wasn't them. Making assumptions as she was only made her into a fool. A fool she was to prideful to admit she could ever be, such a fool.

The shuddering on the lotus drew Maya's attention back from her thoughts. The petals were slowly opening with the sunrise, and Maya was finding it hard to remain patient. Slowly the first glimpse of her youngling appeared. Two healthy quivering antennas appeared. Maya could feel herself inching closer. Her body taking on a posture that dared anyone to approach her or the small child. Her child didn't hold the Alkidike colorings in her Antenna skin. And she feared for the child's life if any of the more prideful and deadly sisters had stumbled upon them.

Eager to see more of the child within Maya struggled to hold herself together. She wanted to tear away at the petals, to pull the little one out and hug it. The suspense on gender, on the child's features, was to much for Maya to bare. Soon enough the rest of the head appeared. Sandy blond hair with streaks of blue and white. Bright green eyes blinked open, focusing on Maya with a smile. The rest of the lotus seemed to fall away as Mother and Daughter smiled at each other. Maya couldn't stand it anymore. Laughing and whooping her hands flew out, her fingers wrapping around the younglings arms. Pulling her close Maya wrapped her arms around her and pulled her into a tight hug. Her legs balancing them both on Aisha's powerful limbs. "My little Teiluj. Look how beautiful you turned out to be." Shivering when Teiluj's response was followed. Her tiny arms wrapping around Maya, pulling herself closer to her mother.

"Mommy..." Maya continued to Hug the youngling. Cheering Mentally the youngling she had now named Teiluj was a girl. Perhaps being a girl would give Teiluj a better advantage to having her aunts accept her. Love overflowing within the blade, Maya didn't want to leave. She wanted to stay as they were, frozen forever. An impossible dream and Maya knew it. Eventually others would find them. Alkidikes who shunned and hurt the half breed younglings. Dark eyes flashed in the direction of home. She needed to get Teiluj there, and quickly. Before the other sisters found her. Moving the small youngling back to get another look at her Maya's grin grew wider. She could hardly comprehend how beautiful Teiluj was to her. Or how the younglings name had poped out and stuck to the child. Shifter stones mixed with Alkidike tribal markings littered the small body. Turning around Maya pulled a hide out of her small bag. Wrapping it tightly around the small younglings frame. Then pulling everything onto her own body Maya pulled her daughter up into her arms, holding her tightly to her own body. Raising quickly to her feet Maya glanced about. No one had seen Teiluj's birth. It was likely she would be able to escape what she felt as danger, unnoticed. Teiluj instinctively wrapped her arms around Maya's neck. Burring her head into her mothers shoulders. Her ears listening to as many strange, new, wonderful, and compelling sounds around them. Everything felt wonderful in the new world, even the wind as her mother jumped to a branch below them, felt wonderful on her skin.

Maya was finding it more and more difficult to navigate the branches on her way down. She didn't have use of her hand's while they carried her bundled daughter protectively. Her shoulder's full of items to survive only seemed to held cause more distractions to her balance. The only things available to her, were her legs and feet. Grateful for her balance as it was Maya found herself struggling with the new path, she wasn't even able to complete a full route down before having to back track several times to find a better way.

Finding the ground felt like a blessing to Maya. Placing Teiluj on the ground Maya whistled into the forest. Turning to tighten the protective cloth other Teiluj, Pacju emerged silently. Her paws barely touching the ground as she moved. The youngling jumped as she caught sight of the beast behind her mother. Squeaking in surprise, her bright green eyes were alight with both fear and curiosity. Maya giggled turning to find Pacju, moving towards the Radaku Maya found herself suddenly being clung to by her small daughter holding fast to her legs. "Come Pacju. Be nice this is my pup, Teiluj"

The Radaku moved forward carefully she remembered the young earthling when Maya had fallen ill. Pausing before Maya the Radaku sniffed as if making sure it was her and she wasn't hurt. Once certain she was ok, the welcome petting's quickly followed suit from Maya. Rubbing and scratching behind the horns. Purring as her eyes rolled shut. Giggling excitedly Teiluj moved forward, bouncing towards Pacju. Wary of the younglings sudden movements, watching her as she came near her. Dark eyes snapping back to Maya for reassurance. Twitching nervously as tiny hands placed on the beasts leg. Teiluj had Maya's soft gentle touch, even if she was moving quickly with excitement. Maya watched as the female Radaku's eyes melted closed again with the attention offered her.

Shifting the gear from her shoulders the Alkidike blade started packing stuff on her Radaku. Teiluj giggled again as Pacju's head moved around to sniff her. The beasts breath was warm on her skin and she liked it. Maya drew both of their attention as she came around to their side. Tightening the straps holding their gear in place. "OK up you go now little one." Maya cooed dipping her hand sunder Teiluj's arms and lifting her up on Pacju's back. The radaku shifted with a growl. Her back twitching from head to tail in protest. Maya patted her companion's side reassuringly. Climbing on she swrapped one of her arms around her daughter and the other hand into Pacju's fur. "Come friend we should be getting home now. I wonder if the others even missed us old friend." Pacju lept into a run sending Teiluj's heart racing into her throat. "I doubt it though." Maya mused pulling Teiluj closer.

The world seemed to go on for what felt like and eternity to Teiluj. So many colors. Bugs that past in and out of sight, animals that skittered away as they flew past. Every now and then Maya would allow the Radaku time to rest, which gave Teiluj time to learn her surroundings. The youngling enjoyed it best when Maya would point out diffrent things. Then teach her cool things about them. Getting back up on Pacju's back was less exiting each time. Even if the Radaku seemed less worried each time. Even stopping to rest at night. Bringing on the change in Teiluj's eyes from green to gold. Had been stressful for Maya. She feared her youngling would wander off into the forest and become lost. That she wouldn't be able to track such a small child and she would loose her forever. The opposite seemed to happen much to Maya's abundant relief. Through the excitement Teiluj had fallen asleep quickly on their final rest stop for the day. Her head resting in her mothers lap, hair splayed across her face. Maya smiled, running her hands through her daughters hair. It was soft, fine, and silken to the touch. A complete opposite of what her own hair felt like. Falling asleep with Pacju keeping watch over them.

It had taken another several days before Maya, Pacju, and Teiluj made it home. Once at the entrance Maya pulled Teiluj to the ground, followed by what little remained of the supplies Maya had first taken with her. "Thank you dear friend." Maya said patting her Radaku affectionately. "You carried us a long way, and kept us safe. You deserve a well earned rest and plenty of food."

Lifting the supplies back onto her shoulders. Snorting Pacju dropped to her haunches, a long yawn from her brought out yet another giggle from the small youngling. Maya smiled, now came the task of sneaking into Home Tree undetected. She was starting to get progressively worse at sneaking over the months. Even worse now that she wasn't able to keep up with her sisters ever changing life schedules. Taking Teiluj by the hand Maya led her into home tree. Cautioning her on how to be very quiet.
